This was our first time back to GG in a couple of years - yikes! And not gonna lie, it was…read moredisappointing. We had takeout, which was packed carefully and packaged as neatly as ever - the hot items in one bag, the cold items in another bag -to make it home in a reasonable time. Where things went wrong: Chicken Teriyaki skewers had zero teriyaki glaze and instead were coated - WELL COATED - in a non-removeable green curry covering. There was absolutely no connection between these skewers and teriyaki. None of us cares for curry, so that was trashed since the cat sat back and said "absolutely not!" Pad Thai with the Chicken and Shrimp option had two (2) medium shrimp, so I guess that counts as multiple shrimp . . . the chicken was dry but at least it was plain, no curry. However, unlike the well coated curried skewers, there was virtually no Pad Thai sauce. The sauce that makes the bland rice noodles come to life was MIA. After much discussion and pulling the stuck together noodles apart, we did think that a very scant spoonful of sauce had been added to the very center of the container, making it a bit more Pad Thai-ish than the bare noodles in the other 2/3 of the takeout container. Pulled out the chicken bits and those two shrimp and trashed the rice noodles because I didn't even have a store-bought packet of Pad Thai sauce on hand to zhush it up! On the cold side, the go-to order of sushi Chirashi was good, fortunately because we were down two dishes out of three! Note to self: live and learn, keep to the Japanese side of the menu, and stop expecting a restaurant to do more than one style of cooking well, it never happens the way you hope it will!

It was really great. I am a white woman raised by white parents. In the 80s my dad went rogue into taekwondo for a black belt and immersed himself fully in the culture. He began making Szechuan food. I've eaten a lot of Chinese and Asian food and i don't usually go for it because there's so much bad and greasy. I prefer Japanese, usually, but when my dad started cooking Szechuan, we tried a wide variety of very authentic restaurants in Boston Chinatown, I know what I'm eating. This one hits the mark. We tried three things for range and shared. A beautiful rare black pepper and sesame seared tuna over salad, with super fresh fish, the level of pepper was on point. It was great. We had the pu pu platter for one which was a ton of food and delicious. The spare ribs were tender, the marinade on the chicken wings was so nice and the crab Rangoon were little fatties and fully stuffed with the perfect blend of crab and cream. We had the crazy chow fun (foon) with beef but without the spiciness so it was regular beef chow fun. Again the meat was tender and the wide noodles had the right amount of sauce. I had a scorpion bowl, it hit. I've seen some ugly reviews on here and honestly think two of the people whose last names start with S worked together on bashing this place, not cool Brian and Jen. Take out food will always be compromised by packing it, steam and travel. Don't judge food like that. This is the place for a fun first date, get a scorpion bowl for two. Get lit and share the Pu Pu platter to start. Check your compatibility on the old school Chinese zodiac placemat, love this. The ambiance is sultry red and dimly lit. People were definitely enjoying themselves. Gave me all the feels and memories of dark lounges, dens of iniquity, red lamps of my twenties. Ahhh...miss that time. I'm a hard sell. Gourmet garden is really good, and you should go. This is something I have should have enjoyed many times over by now.

Growing up in Boston, I have my favorite spots to go to. However, one of my favorite spots closed down recently which led my Bestfriend to find us a new option for Chinese. In walks Chinatown Restaurant in Weymouth. Doing a search in the area, we discovered Chinatown Restaurant in Weymouth. The reviews were raving about how good the food was, so I had to go. Driving up, it's your typical carry-out. Nothing special, but it's easy to find and there is ample parking. After taking a look at the menu, I decided on the Pu Pu Platter for 1 with a Sm Lobster Sauce. I placed my preset at the window, paid, and took a seat. The location was very clean. The ambiance is very take-out suggestive and the lighting is slightly dim, but not in a romantic way... After a few minutes, my food was ready and my order was called. From the moment I took ownership of the bag I was excited. The smells that were coming out of the bag were amazing. I could literally smell my entire order and it had my mouth watering. As the Pu Pu Platter provides a variety, I will admit that EVERYTHING that comes in the platter was AMAZING (I don't eat shrimp so I can't speak on the shrimp). Beef Teriyaki - Meaty. Moist. Well flavored. Perfectly done. Perfect size. Chicken Wings - Flavorful and Perfectly Done. Nice size. Boneless Ribs - These steal the show as they are beyond amazing. Sweet and Salty, meaty with not a lot of fat. Perfect amount of sauce. These were the highlight of my plate. Chicken Fingers - Thick. Battered well. Great with the Sweet & Sour Sauce. Not hard. Egg Roll - HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE. Fresh. Flavorful and Crispy. The Lobster Sauce was good as well. It was standard for a carry out but the flavor profile was that of a quality restaurant. It was as meaty as it was saucy. All I know is that I am sold on Chinatown Restaurant in Weymouth and will be returning every time I come back home. LoL.

I think when you start a review with "the person who took my order was very, very nice". You know…read moreit's not going to be a really positive review. So we ordered food from Chinatown Restaurant and like I said the person who took our order was very, very nice. We got General Gau's "chicken" with an Egg Roll and Chicken Fingers. I'll start with the Chicken Fingers which were as good as I have ever had. They were awesome. That's the good now for not so good part of the review.... The egg roll had this sugary taste to it. I've eaten hundreds if not thousands of egg rolls in my lifetime and never before have I tasted an egg roll that had this sugary taste to it. Not sweet but like someone doused it with sugar before cooking it. Not a good taste sensation either. The General Gau's Chicken had dark meat which I am not a fan of. It also looked and tasted more like pork than chicken and had this funky taste to it that did not enhance it good. Thankfully it was not very spicy. The pork fried rice had lots of pork but the rice tasted very bland. It only had one slice of Mushroom and one slice of onion. No egg bits. No bean sprouts no anything that usually makes the rice taste better. It looked like it was the bottom of the barrel; which considering it was an hour before they closed it probably was. I struggled to eat about 1/8 of my meal then threw it away. We also got Lo Mein and that was also bland as heck. I gave them three stars based on how good the Chicken Fingers were and how nice the people who work there are. Summary: I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was an hour before they closed and try them again. I struggled to give them three stars because like I said earlier the chicken fingers were good and the people who work there were very, very nice. I would say avoid them an hour or two before closing.

Totally incongruous with the surrounding environment. Walked in... nothing fancy. Maybe 5 tables. The food was just not good. I had the big wonton soup ( the one with all the extras ). The broth was very bland. The wontons were the nice thin wrappers, but the filling tasted "off". And there was enough noodles in the bowl to make it difficult to eat. I ate a few bites and left the rest. I also ordered the boneless spare ribs. They had a nice cook to them. Nice color. Nice charing. But... just not flavorful, and dry. Very dry. I ate a few pieces, and left the rest. Over all, I would not recommend nor return.
