Best Chinese restaurant on the South Shore. Family friendly. Plenty of parking. Clean, well lit, quaint and nicely decorated. Friendly, polite, courteous, professional and attentive staff. Disappointed today. The food fasted like leftovers. Egg foo yon was too crunchy on the outside and mushy inside like reheated food. Maybe they made too much for New Years and were trying to get rid of it. The rice was hard. The buffet they theoretically have only Friday at lunch was not available. Beijing House used to be one of the best Asian restaurants on the South Shore but I hate to say it has gone downhill big time! I know the price of food/ takeout has gone up significantly but $80+ for soup, 3 apps, rice and a main dish is out of control! The dumplings were like rubber and the ribs under cooked. The wonton soup had no veggies in it except for a sprinkle of scallions. The rice was good but looked like it had been sitting since yesterday. Our main dish of beef chow foon and the small order of chicken wings were good but not up to Beijing House standards in my opinion. But when I picked up my food and charged me $10 extra, they told me there are actually 2 prices for each item,and they put the order through automatically with the more expensive price. Today was the first and last time I order from this restaurant. I ordered online and my order was wrong. The food itself was of poor quality. The chicken fingers were extremely greasy and were a reminiscent of an olean potato chip. My general Tso's chicken was simultaneously dried out and over cooked and raw. I've been here many times over the years and I used to rave about the service and food but the last few visits have been very disappointing. Came here on Christmas Eve afternoon when it was not busy. Service was just ok. Once we got our food quickly realizing we were missing some things and half of the food was cold. I am not one to complain about food to people that handle my food because of fear of what they might do to it if I return it. That's just me. So i didn't eat much and left there hungry after paying a $70 bill. Last couple of times before that the food was very bland. This used to be good American Chinese. Then it used to be decent American Chinese, especially for the South Shore. Now it's inedible. It's so disgusting that it'll take amnesia for me to return. Carry out order on a Monday night. A working dinner, all the boxes on the table. Everyone is hungry, gonna dig in. I go for the pan fried noodles, which I've eaten before at Beijing House and elsewhere, including Chinatown. My first warning is that these noodles aren't the usual. Instead of a thin noodle, almost like vermicelli, these are thick, like udon. Uh, okay. I take a bite. STALE. The topping is grey, with a flavorless mixture of unevenly sized meats and shrimp. The shrimp are the size of a nickel. Never seen that before, either. I can't eat it even though I'm very hungry. I open the boneless spare ribs. They are visibly burnt. Not charmingly charred, the way they do at that place in Dorchester where the chef sears them under a fire right in front of you, but burned so badly that they are inedible. And very tough, as though -- it scares me to think of it -- they've been sitting there for weeks. I go for the hot and sour soup, always a comfort food. The first spoonful is off. It's almost sweet. Maybe it's that green herb they've included. What is it? Cilantro? I take a second bite and get mystery meat. Is it possible that they've added turkey neck to the soup? It looks odd, too, as though they've swirled the egg drop soup into it. The taste, look, and texture are so off that I can't eat it, either. There is other stuff in the order but three strikes and I'm done. Everyone is polite. But pretty soon someone else says, "These noodles are stale...." There's a lot of food left on the table. And then someone says, "Beijing House used to be good." This wasn't a mistake in an order. This wasn't an off note in a flavor profile. This is wholesale fraud. This is betting that you're not gonna ask for a refund because you're already at home toasting a bagel because you just spent $60 on a bag of inedible "Chinese" food. read more

Beijing House certainly doesn't look like a Chinese restaurant from the outside, it looks like a nice yellow house or office building. Once you step inside, it still doesn't look like a typical Chinese restaurant. The decor is more modern-Asian. This place is really popular on the South Shore so expect a wait if you are going to dine there on the weekend. Perhaps while you are waiting you can look at their autographed photos of various Aerosmith members. The menu at Beijing House has a much wider selection than your typical suburban Chinese-American restaurant. While this isn't the most authentic Chinese food it is still tasty. I've been to this restaurant many times. The food is average but consistent. I was there last night and it was very busy. We sat for probably 20 to 25 minutes before any one approached us to take our drink order. Then maybe 15 minutes later someone came to take our order. Our waiter was covering approximately 90% of the room. People came in after us and received heir food before us. When our food came it was one thing at a time. One appetizer then 5 minutes later another one and again another 5 minutes for the third. The entree was the same. It came and the rice another 5 minutes later. Staff was extremely friendly and nice, and whenever we asked for anything, it came out within a couple of minutes. Beijing House used to be my go to Chinese food restaurant. We ordered $60 worth of food tonight. Almost inedible. The boneless spare ribs were dry and overcooked. I threw out the pork chow mein. It was tasteless and almost tasted bad. I didn't need them but the noodles for the chow mein were stale. We also ordered pork fried rice and lobster sauce. Not bad but again tasteless and a bit watery. Quans down the street is so much better. I'm done with The Beijing House and for their prices, try another place. read more

I have no idea how there are any less-than 5 star reviews for this place. I've been coming to Beijing House for over 10 years and have never had a bad experience. My favorites include crab rangoon, scallion pizza/pancakes, veggie lo mein, and boneless spare ribs. Everything is always tasty and fresh. When dining in, I love their scorpion bowls (for 1 person or 2). The staff is friendly and the bartenders are awesome, especially Jay, Megan, and Chris! The atmosphere is welcoming and the restaurant is clean. I live in Tampa now, but when I return to Mass to visit family, I stop in at Beijing at least a handful of times during my visit. I even joke that I'd move back to MA for Beijing House alone. This place is phenomenal! read more

My wife and I made a huge mistake ordering a take-our order from Beijing Restaurant. The chicken with pineapple was so over cooked that it wasn't edible. I have to say - normally I love this place and agree BEST Sesame Chicken around! I go about every 2 months to get my Chinese food fix. I agree with other posts, it is Americanized, but good (not like Chinatown), but for the South Shore my "go to" place. That said, last night was different. It was so below standard. The boneless spareribs were overcooked and dry, the sesame chicken was dry, the beef with broccoli was chewy, the crab rangoons were greasy - nothing was up to their usual standards. The vegetable delight, fried rice and white rice were fine, but can you really mess that up? We all agreed it was not their best and was actually bad, but we were celebrating a birthday (ate the take out within 30 minutes of picking it up) and since that was what we had we ate it. After thinking about and sleeping on it we decided the restaurant should know, so I went in today to speak with them. I believed I was polite, complimented the previous times I was there, explained how much we love the place, but that last night it was just not good. The manager Ching Ching, said "we served 200 orders last night and no one complained." She looked at the list of what we ordered and her only comment was "what was wrong with the rice?" I told her even the cookie was stale. She got up, opened a cookie and broke it, then said see, fresh. At that point, I realized I was getting nowhere and asked for a refund. Ching Ching asked where the food was, I said at the House or Dump (my father was going that morning). She then was a little rude and said "On Sunday?" As if I was lying...Yes the Hingham Dump is open on Sundays! Ching Ching offered me a gift card as compensation, for the orders I did not think were cooked up to the usual standards and I said fine. Like I said I like the restaurant and this seemed like a fluke. Then she added up the items and said, only for half. At that point, this place was no longer for me. I then asked for the refund, because I will not be back. It was apparent, my honestly did not matter, Ching Ching was unwilling to correct the situation. She gave me a portion of the bill back, but unfortunately lost a customer, who knows maybe others. It is a shame too. I wait tables and I guess the restaurant I work for is a little better at customer service. I see them make things right when they have to, Bejing I feel did not. Like I said, the food is normally good Americanized-Chinese (last night excluded). I cannot say the same for the manager. read more

I came here with my fiance trying to find a new chinese food restaurant for a change. We were seated right away. They gave complementary hot tea, which i've never gotten at a japanese or Chinese restaurant. It was delicious! I ended up just getting rice and egg drop soup because i wasn't very hungry. The soup was really good though! My fiance got pork fried rice and chicken tenders. He said it was best fried rice hes had in a while. Ginger chicken with string beans. Sesame chicken. Crab rangoons (not as "crabby" as I usually like, but lightly fried, with a scallion-y essence, stuffed w/ cream cheese. So good.) Lo Mein. (Theirs just rocks.) I've been coming here for years, and receive consistently good service, and totally amazing food. The food is still great and the wait staff but the cleanliness is really appalling. I have not dined in person at any restaurant since covid and since I got my 1st vaccine and am due for my 2nd this week and because it was so empty here, I thought it was low risk to eat here. The tiny older woman who is always at the take out counter told me I could sit in one of two booths that they reserved for in person diners. The booth they sat me at was disgusting.. the floor was covered with dirt and debris and it was clear someone had spilled a pink drink on the floor. There was one other family in the restaurant that had been seated at another table and as a loyal, long term customer, I had never had this issue and wanted to be discreet. When the petite manager walked past me, I told her in a hushed voice that the floors were filthy under the table as was the paper chinese zodiace plate setting. She shrugged her shoulders and asked what did I expect her to do about it?! I was shocked...! A little while later, I had my phone out to take pictures and she saw me and told me she would move me. I said I was fine at that point. The food is great and the wait staff are lovely but it does make you wonder if it is this dirty in the area that patrons see, what does the kitchen look like?!?! read more

I had lunch there on a Saturday afternoon with four friends. The place was clean and we were seated right away. The server showed up promptly. We opted for their luncheon specials @$8.95. Ross and I had Sweet 'n Sour Chicken with Egg Drop Soup which was very tasty. The Spring Roll was average. There is a small charge to substitute the appetizer. The main course came about fifteen minutes later piping hot. The chicken was very lightly breaded white meat chunks, not thick breading with a pea size piece of meat which seems to be the norm at many of these places. I enjoyed my lunch. The serving was a generous portion with fried rice on the side. The bill for five of us was $60.00 including a gratuity. I will definitely return again next time I am in the area. read more

Excellent American Chinese food. I read some reviews saying that this place has "gone downhill" in recent years, but this was my first time dining there so I had nothing to compare it to. If it was better in previous years, I wish I'd been. The crab rangoon were some of the best I've had, lots of filling with big chunks of krab (yes, krab with a "k," but that's standard). The orange beef was crispy, but tender, and the sauce was intensely orange-flavored. The dumplings -- oh, excuse me, the "beijing ravioli" -- were juicy and fresh and the ginger sauce was delicious. Everything came out quickly, our server was polite, and it was a great meal. Only minor complaint, if you would even call it that, was that the "suffering bastard" drink I ordered tasted like a frat party . . . I think it was supposed to be lemon, grapefruit, and rum, but mostly just tasted like fruit and liquor. I actually imagine that all of their tiki drinks are poured from the same jug of 80 proof juice mix. But that's fine, I wasn't expecting a divine experience, and it was strong for the price. Sometimes good things come in small packages, or in this case unassuming buffets. If you are close around lunch time, go. There are several good buffets on the South Shore. But this one, and this is what this review is on, distinguishes itself. Visually, it looks just like any other Chinese lunch buffet, maybe smaller. Yet, each dish is a main, a real dish, meaning it tastes of the real menu. I'm not going to list, dish to dish, with the other area lunch buffets, i.e., Feng Shui, Asian C, (both very, very worthy of a visit) but Beijing House transcends in its main dishes. At Beijing House "real" dishes separate this buffet. The flavors are strong, distinct, but visually unassuming. You look and see merely a Chicken then Pork then Beef, stir fry, but they are more. Each dish stands on its own. The chicken "Beijing Sauce" had hints of kung pao without peanuts but less celery and a subtle pleasing heat. The beef employed a gentle five spice, and the tasty shrimp with green beans was a vehicle for the vegetable as much as the seafood which is in the end was very good. A stand out is the pork fried rice. So many places get this dish wrong. This the REAL brown fried rice. The flavor is real. There are no leftover boneless ribs. The chef has tasty strips of roast pork. It's what fried rice is supposed to taste like, with bean sprouts, and dare I say it, the proper umami the Americanized dish has. In the end, it is the small things that make this very small buffet. The chicken wings taste "right." So many places make them, but the taste at Beijing is richer, more satisfying. Real egg rolls, crispy crab rangoon, noodles with chicken and egg, and an offering of soup of which the hot and sour is great; all subtly distinguish this lunch. Service is prompt. Each time I went back to the buffet, my old plate was gone when I returned. Waitstaff is officious but efficient. Tea, water and sauces came out quickly. Sometimes it's nice to be around professionals who know their craft. There are only two knocks. One was an unnecessary attempt at sushi. Interesting but not great, and could be said to detract from the Chinese offerings. Understandingly, Beijing House's competitors, who are significantly far away, have maki offerings, but they offer an actual Japanese menu, and their dishes are not as strong. The second is personal. No dumplings. No shumai. No Peking raviolis. (Feng Shui has these shrimp topped pork dumplings... wonderful! ). I'm not calling for full dim sum, but some offering to this wonderful type of dish would be better than watered down sushi. A final observation pointed to other reviewers, this is not ASIAN cuisine. Don't be afraid. It's CHINESE. "Chinese" is not a bad word. The Chinese have a cuisine, albeit not translated exactly in this country, and a culture that spans millennia. It's okay. Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indonesian (Lord, can we get a good Malaysian restaurant in the region!); they with Indian are all wonderfully distinct cultures and cuisines. Diatribe over...
