This was our first time back to GG in a couple of years - yikes! And not gonna lie, it was disappointing. We had takeout, which was packed carefully and packaged as neatly as ever - the hot items in one bag, the cold items in another bag -to make it home in a reasonable time. Where things went wrong: Chicken Teriyaki skewers had zero teriyaki glaze and instead were coated - WELL COATED - in a non-removeable green curry covering. There was absolutely no connection between these skewers and teriyaki. None of us cares for curry, so that was trashed since the cat sat back and said "absolutely not!" Pad Thai with the Chicken and Shrimp option had two (2) medium shrimp, so I guess that counts as multiple shrimp . . . the chicken was dry but at least it was plain, no curry. However, unlike the well coated curried skewers, there was virtually no Pad Thai sauce. The sauce that makes the bland rice noodles come to life was MIA. After much discussion and pulling the stuck together noodles apart, we did think that a very scant spoonful of sauce had been added to the very center of the container, making it a bit more Pad Thai-ish than the bare noodles in the other 2/3 of the takeout container. Pulled out the chicken bits and those two shrimp and trashed the rice noodles because I didn't even have a store-bought packet of Pad Thai sauce on hand to zhush it up! On the cold side, the go-to order of sushi Chirashi was good, fortunately because we were down two dishes out of three! Note to self: live and learn, keep to the Japanese side of the menu, and stop expecting a restaurant to do more than one style of cooking well, it never happens the way you hope it will! read more

I went to Gourmet Garden last night. And let me tell you the food was fantastic. Whoever is in the kitchen creating their Chinese food has really put their heart and soul into it. It was really great. I am a white woman raised by white parents. In the 80s my dad went rogue into taekwondo for a black belt and immersed himself fully in the culture. He began making Szechuan food. I've eaten a lot of Chinese and Asian food and i don't usually go for it because there's so much bad and greasy. I prefer Japanese, usually, but when my dad started cooking Szechuan, we tried a wide variety of very authentic restaurants in Boston Chinatown, I know what I'm eating. This one hits the mark. We tried three things for range and shared. A beautiful rare black pepper and sesame seared tuna over salad, with super fresh fish, the level of pepper was on point. It was great. We had the pu pu platter for one which was a ton of food and delicious. The spare ribs were tender, the marinade on the chicken wings was so nice and the crab Rangoon were little fatties and fully stuffed with the perfect blend of crab and cream. We had the crazy chow fun (foon) with beef but without the spiciness so it was regular beef chow fun. Again the meat was tender and the wide noodles had the right amount of sauce. I had a scorpion bowl, it hit. I've seen some ugly reviews on here and honestly think two of the people whose last names start with S worked together on bashing this place, not cool Brian and Jen. Take out food will always be compromised by packing it, steam and travel. Don't judge food like that. This is the place for a fun first date, get a scorpion bowl for two. Get lit and share the Pu Pu platter to start. Check your compatibility on the old school Chinese zodiac placemat, love this. The ambiance is sultry red and dimly lit. People were definitely enjoying themselves. Gave me all the feels and memories of dark lounges, dens of iniquity, red lamps of my twenties. Ahhh...miss that time. I'm a hard sell. Gourmet garden is really good, and you should go. This is something I have should have enjoyed many times over by now. read more

Tried this place for the first time on NYE. There were about 50 people in line waiting for their pick up orders at 5pm. The line did go rather quickly i will say. The scallion pancakes from here are very flavorful and light. The sushi is very good and what has got us coming back 3 more times since NYE. I took my Dad here for lunch - we had a choice btwn the All You Can Eat Buffet or the menu. The buffet didn't look spectacular so we opted for the menu. He ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and I ordered the Imperial Couple (Shrimp and scallops sauteed with ginger and scallion garnished with pea pods) because I had never had it before, it's a Friday in Lent and hey - I had a Groupon so why not roll the dice? My Dad's Pad Thai was remarkably one color - beige. It really could have used carrots, pea pods, parsley, *something* other than tan noodles and chicken. That said, he cleaned his plate. Mine was better than I had anticipated - it looked great and tasted really good. They asked me if I wanted to order a side of rice and I declined. No need for it. I should mention that my dish had many Thai Chili Peppers in it. I knew they were there to add heat/spice/flavor, but I couldn't resist taking a TINY bite out of one of them. After I did, approximately half of my face melted off. And this was a really tiny nibble from the pepper. So be forewarned. I paid $15 for the Groupon which gave me $30 to spend at GG. My wife and I stopped in on a recent Saturday night and were very pleasantly surprised. It was our first visit and it was very quiet in the restaurant area (to the left) and, so, we chose to sit in the bar area (to the right.) We were immediately greeted by Sing, our bartender who took care of us all night. He was high energy, enthusiastic, and very pleasant. We learned that they have karaoke in the bar area on Saturday night. Although we are not big karaoke fans, we stayed and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of those who participated. In addition to several drinks, the food that we ordered was very tasty and fresh including: Pan Fried Ravioli, Ginger Shrimp, and Chicken Fried Rice. Everything was really very good. We totally enjoyed our experience at Gourmet Garden and found a new local spot for solid food, good drinks, and a little "entertainment." We definitely will be back! read more

I think this is the first time I have ever written a reastaurant review and i am doing so because this was so awful. I had to throw everything away. Spring roll was wrapped mush, General Tso chicken had such a horrible taste, I question if something contanimated it. I am not a picky eater I love all flavors spices etc., this was not that. The lo mein tasted like shrimp although it was supposed to be vegetable but there were no vegetables just plain noodles. Only good thing I would say is they almost got the scallion pancakes right. They were thin, so many place make them too thick, but they were under cooked so not crispy as they should be. I won't go back. read more

Quick service, large portions, and easy to get a table. I ordered the Scallion Pancakes as an appetizer and the Spicy Tofu Pad Thai for my entree. I was blown away by the scallion pancakes, as they were genuinely the best ones I have ever had. The pad Thai was flavorful and did not skimp on the tofu. It was a perfect level of spicy as well. Purchased a LivingSocial voucher months ago and, because I'm not sure where my next assignment will take me, I figured I'd better get myself over there. Post workout (because when am I not post workout anymore) I rolled up with my phone in hand ready for my sushi. It's noon on a Wednesday and this place is pretty empty. No big deal because... it's noon on a Wednesday. The waitress was nice enough, but in a "the faster you eat, the quicker you leave kinda way". Ordered a spider maki which was pretty good. Having recently had not so good sushi, I tried to go a little safer and was pleased with my roll overall. It wasn't the most amazing thing I'd ever had, but it tasted delicious and hit my sushi spot (located in the lower left quadrant of my abdomen, in case you were wondering). I also tried the grilled chicken teriyaki with veggies and white rice. What I thought I was getting and what I actually got weren't the same. Out came two fillets with a side of teriyaki glaze. I was definitely expecting what I get from the mall Japanese places (any restaurant that I've order chicken teriyaki from really) which is strips of chicken, grilled, with teriyaki already on it. Not bad, just different. Not super spectacular, but what I got was good. I'd go back for more sushi for sure. read more

My family and I have been going here for years, staff is so friendly, customer service is great and they have so many different sushi rolls to choose from. I definitely recommend Phil's Amazing Special, Steamed shumai, and New Wave Maki. Owner is very kind, she gives us a couple Mai tais for free every time we come by. The staff always recognizes us which is very nice. It's usually pretty quiet except for karaoke night but that's really fun. read more

Gong Bao Chicken is a plentiful serving of white meat, chiles, garlic, peanuts and assorted stir fry veggies in a piquant brown sauce. I requested Very Spicy, and as with most places, they didn't up the ante. But the dish is hearty without being heavy, and has a balanced flavor. Don't let the small Pu Pu Platter fool you - there's much to be enjoyed in what amounts to a meal for two, comically stuffed in to a single carry-out box. Order this mambajamba if you like your dinner to double as a clown car. Finally, sending love for substitutions on combination meals. Never once caught grief for requesting additional rangoon in place of beef teriyaki on the Kid Happy Combo. Kid happy, indeed. Living in Hull, this is my go to place here in the local area. The menu is comprehensive and you'll have many great choices, from Thai, Chinese, Sushi, you can't go wrong. I've been to the GC at least 10 times over the last 6 months. I've had the Buffet during the week days, Luncheon Specials, and numerous plates from each cuisine! All came with exceptional quality and freshness. The poultry is organic, and you can't beat the Long Island Ducks!!! I would give a rating of 5 Stars, however when asked for Thai Hot #7 on the spice scale, it sadly is about a 5 on the American Scale. Still, great local place! read more

We have gone into the restaurant twice over the last few weeks. Each time there has been only one server on the entire floor and dinner has taken over two hours. We recently tried this place out after purchasing a Groupon. The food was pretty good but the sushi is what made us wanting to go back. We got a caterpillar roll, hot and sour soup, a combination plate, and a spicy chicken dish. Everything was good but the spicy chicken dish wasn't as flavorful as it looked. No complaints though as we happily ate our meal. The sushi tasted very fresh, and in the end we wished we ordered another sushi plate over the chicken dish. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was clean. Other friends have raved about their cocktails too even though we didn't order any ourselves. We wanted to go back again today (Sunday) at 11:45am, but I was disappointed because the restaurant was still closed even though it was supposed to open at 11:30. If you say it'll open at 11:30 then everything should be ready to go at 11:30. Can't say I was totally surprised since I've read other reviews stating the same problem.
