First and last time here . Barely any staff when staff was found , they were smoking in a corner inside the hotel not only that our room smelled like puke . Both couches provided still smelled like throw up and was still stained . The bathroom also stunk especially when shower was being used . The only good thing about the hotel is the fact that I could walk to the beach . Please don't listen to the other reviews this has been THE worst hotel I've ever been at . The water here is like bleach water leaves a weird feel on your skin I left here feeling dirtier than ever. If you're contemplating between here and an Airbnb I suggest you get the Airbnb .... Can't beat the location and the staff were friendly, but those are my only positives. Room was HALF the size of what the website shows. Apparently we were given a "renovated room." Half of the light switches lead to nowhere, phone didn't work, shower dripped all night. The breakfast was the worst I have ever seen. The same food was out Monday at 4 when we arrived. Okay so we really want to give 3.5 stars but it doesn't seem to allow that. Now... here are our observations: The hotel is adorable. A little "Game of Thrones-ey" with a modern twist which is super cute. The staff is very nice. I appreciate that luggage dolleys are available right in the garage. The rooftop lounge is very nice, however - not much more than bar food on the menu so we opted to go into town for seafood at The Half Shell (fantastic!) which I will review separately. I did notice on the rooftop receipt that we were charged for the wrong wine. I had a $10 glass of wine but was charged for a $15 glass of wine. But my husband had a glass of Glen Levit which they only charged $10 for (which is a great price) so I let it slide. Our only other complaints are that the pillows on the bed are so poofy that my neck was uncomfortable all night. Next time I will bring our own pillows. And the wine glasses brought to the room with the bottle we ordered should have been polished up. There is nothing appealing about water spotted wine glasses. Otherwise the room was very clean and very nice. I did notice the complimentary mini body wash in the shower was incredibly watery which means they're just refilling them which is kinda gross. Despite our chief complaints, we will probably come here again. My husband wants me to add that the rooftop furniture is a bit dilapidated. Ansley, Emily and Terrance were great. Made us feel VIP and went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing stay. The rooftop restaurant was superior, food was phenomenal! We had mahi mahi for dinner and the fried okra and starter bread to start. ALL great food. For breakfast we had the shrimp and grits and it was also delicious. The resort is very old. The door wouldn't lock when we first got here. They fixed it. The towels are few and very small and hard. I had to order more. There is no daily made service. I was hoping for someone to clean. There was no remote for the one usable tv. I made requests for room service and the remote, no response. It says resort, but it doesn't feel like one. The restaurant on the roof top was ok. The water outside was served without ice on a 99 degree day. I felt I was starting to be annoying. I asked for ice twice. My wine was warm. I ordered cauliflower steak , but wasn't cooked through. I feel so sad and disappointed. I expected so much better. They have a number you call for any help you need, but like I said, not today. Arrival at Ocean Lodge Resort was easy and appealing. It's one block back from the Oceanside but still a very short walk to the beach . Rooms are spacious with ornate vintage decor . Everything is very clean and love the look. But, the air conditioner doesn't work, the ceiling fan has no power. They tried to double bill us for the room even when showing them our credit card where it had been paid ... This started as a 5 star review , but it dropped . For Ladonna she needs to find another job because management didn't help and was to busy talking on her cell phone to help solve a problem which could have been handled by checking the deposits and reconciling... resorts should be handled better read more

I had a really nice time here. The room is huge, has a kitchen, and also a jacuzzi bathtub. Room was clean, the decor was great, and the breakfast was pretty healthy. They don't do cooked foods but cereal, bagels, fruit, and waffles are normally an option. Honestly was a lot healthier than eggs everyday. Despite the complaints about cleaning in other comments, I didn't have any issues with our room or the level of cleaning. There isn't many rooms here and means you'll have a very quiet stay which is also a plus! The biggest downsides are there isn't a pool here anymore. The staff said they filled it in, they also don't have a gym. But the beach is right across the street, so no problems. read more

Amazing! This boutique hotel is full of culture and charm. I feel like I'm in Italy! Each room is uniquely decorated in vintage Italian décor. Rooms are spacious and are equipped with a full size bedroom, living area with pull out sofa, a full kitchen with range, refrigerator, and microwave; they also provide dishes, cooking utensils and flatware. Each room also has two full size bathrooms! Yes! TWO of them! A full size shower, and a separate bathroom equipped with a jacuzzi style tub with jets. But the best part is waking up and sitting outside on my private veranda each morning. Easy access to the beach and other island attractions. DO NOT STAY HERE!! Overall, a very underwhelming experience. While the location was top-notch, and the view quite underrated, that's about all this place has going for it. The first room we were given at check-in had a broken air conditioner. After we reported the issue to the front desk, the restaurant chef and another employee came to take a look at the unit. At this point we were informed that the A/C in that room never works!!! They then moved us to a room on a higher floor. The room that we moved to had a clogged kitchen sink due to a broken garbage disposal. The dishwasher in this room was also not in working order. When we reported this, they did send someone to repair the disposal, but the dishwasher remained broken for the rest of our stay. In addition to all the broken appliances, several light bulbs in both rooms were either missing or burned out. Neither of the rooms were clean!! In the second room, we found an open bar of soap and used towels in the bathroom, as well as dirty dishes in the kitchen (probably due to the broken dishwasher). This definitely begs the question, was this room even cleaned between the previous guest checking out and us checking in!?! The elevator was taken out of order after day one, and remained inoperable for the final three days of our trip. In someone's infinite wisdom, they decided that it would be a great idea to start working on the elevator and sanding the elevator doors at 11:30 PM at night. Note, there are rooms directly below and adjacent to the elevator and the 5th floor restaurant. When we complained about the banging and noise from the belt sander they were using, we were told by the workers that this was the time that they were hired to do the job, and they would not discontinue the noise. The front-desk staff and other employees were very nice and friendly, and they did try to fix some of our problems, however this place is very poorly run, in need of repairs, and just plain filthy! We had a disgustingly dirty room when we arrived. It's unacceptable normally but even worse during a pandemic. There was throw up, food, a binky, a bowl of cereal spilt down the side of the couch, a used paper towel and food under the cushions, smeared food on the couch, floor and tables, someone else's open bags of food over the microwave and an air filter so old and grey that the air conditioner had a warning to change the filter. Plus on top of everything there was a funky smell and a poor working air conditioner. My husband and I went out and bought cleaning supplies, wipes, mop etc. because there were no more rooms, it was our 30th anniversary and the cleaning crew had gone home already. We couldn't wait for the morning. The next morning a sweet cleaning lady, Gloria, who was not there the day before gave it another cleaning, discovered more disgusting things and found it appalling herself. Management on property were slow to respond and 48 hours later when we were checking out, nothing acceptable had been done. We contacted Kees directly on AirBnB and they have promised a refund. This place is disgusting! When we went to check in there was a bunch of people hanging out in the lobby and the whole place smelled like weed. The room was filthy, there was mold and scum in both bathrooms. The floor was so dirty throughout I wouldn't walk around the room without my shoes on otherwise the bottoms of my feet were black. We went to check out at 9:45 am and even though the office is supposed to open at 7 there was nobody there. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy, horrible experience. read more

As much as I expected to love this hotel, the level of filth was just too much to pardon. These are by far the dirtiest floors I've seen in all my travels. With a fresh pair of white socks, my feet were jet black after walking to the room and back out to the kitchen. We had to have our children keep their shoes on to avoid direct contact with the floors. And that's a shame, because I generally find that hotels with beautiful hard floors are the cleanest. The decor and finishes are lovely, but poorly highlighted by walls covered in dust bunnies, counter tops with visible film and grease, fingerprinted windows, and unsanitary bath fixtures. And while advertised as having a pool, it does not. The pool is boarded up with plywood. You now have to access a "sister property" if you want to use a pool. I'd not ever return or recommend this hotel. My toddlers could keep better accommodations. read more

This place is absolutely beautiful. A couple of years ago (though it's still fresh in my mind), I came here for a Valentine's weekend....wait for it....by myself. Before you start feeling all sorry for me, it ended up being a good time. Coming here alone was not the original plan however my room was already booked and I couldn't get a refund since I was using a voucher I bought from one of the travel discount websites. So I made the most out of it and took some me time. The hotel itself and the rooms look exactly like the photos. Exactly. Now this isn't necessarily my style but I still loved it. The rooms are very heavily decorated in an European style and quite luxurious. I felt like a queen, as cheesy as that sounds. The suites are huge with a large kitchen, living room, balcony and attached bedroom that has one of the biggest and most comfy beds I've ever slept in. Oh, and their jacuzzi tub was ah-mazing! I can't remember if it was just part of my deal but my made-to-order breakfast was included and it was awesome. I loved having my breakfast in their cozy dining room each morning. The service was always top notch and friendly. The hotel itself isn't right on the water but it's only a short walk. And if you get up to the top of the hotel, it has some amazing views. Unfortunately I didn't end up having dinner up top so I can't comment on the food (though the menu looked amazing). Unfortunately, St. Simon's was dead this time of the year (at least I hope it's not like that year-round). It was a ghost town so during the day, I'd do a lot of shopping (I'd venture out into the nearby towns) and would jog on the beach. At night, I tried a dive bar but it was a disappointment and though I tried, I couldn't find anything better. So nightlife was a complete bust. I'm not sure I'll ever return seeing as I live in Charleston and sorry, but there's nothing St. Simon's can offer me that Charleston doesn't have. Plus, the regular rates for this hotel are a bit pricey so I'd definitely recommend looking online for a discount. But if you're wanting to visit a coastal city or you're looking for a romantic getaway, I'd most certainly recommend this hotel. read more

This had to be the worst experience I have had on vacation in a long time. This review is strictly about the dinner service, as I did not stay at the hotel; the hotel itself appears to be beautiful maintained. My wife and I spent the July 4th weekend in SSI, staying at the King and Prince. We heard in advance that the Ocean Lodge was having a special "cookout" event on the rooftop lounge for the eveining of the 4th, and that it was a great place to watch the fireworks. We made a reservation well in advance to make sure we had a good spot. The event was supposed to include a "chef" grilling rib-eye's under the stars, with a potato bar, salad bar, and ice cream sunday bar. Sounds like a perfect summer evening, right? When we arrived, we were seated promplty enough, and greeted by an exhausted server who provided too much detail on how lttle sleep she had the night before. We proceeded to the rib-eye station, to have what appeared to be a 1/8" thick steak-type material presented to me as a Rib-eye. When I inadvertantl scoffed at the size, the chef was quick to indicate "one-per-customer only". We ambled our way over to the potato bar, to find it completely empty, with several guests milling around looking for someone to refill the station. This never happened the entire time we were there. Finally, with nothing but a steak-shaving on our plates, we figured, hey, lets go try the ice cream bar. NOT. It was also completely bare, save for an empty ice cream container and toppings. Mind you, this all took place at during our 7pm reservation. After waiting an hour for the stations to be refilled - which never happened - we decided to bag the whole night and try to catch the fireworks from the beach, while we still had time left. I singled to my server for the check, and I was then presented with a $90 bill. I was so stunned, I couldnt not even speak. Rather than complaining to an uncaring and unconcerned server, or the onwer of the facility, i decided to get an account on Yelp and recap my expereince for those that care. Look - every resteraunt had a bad night, and Im sure the hotel itself is very nice. But when you present a $90 bill for that experience, without even the hint of an apology, you get this review. read more

We were late. We had called a couple of times to let the hotel staff know we were running behind. We were checking in for two nights and we had dinner reservations on the Rooftop Grill. We arrive to check in about 5 minutes before we were supposed to be at the restaurant. No problem! Go ahead to the restaurant and we'll put your luggage in your room and handle he paperwork later. What? You could have knocked me over with a feather. Since we were tired and hungry, we went straight up to the Rooftop Grill and were seated outside with a lovely warm breeze. Our server was Pam and she was fun, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and all pro. We are normally the ones who order everything with special requirements. Everything was no problem, no worries, we got it. The dinner was fantastic. Everyone ate more than we wanted and after dinner we returned to the lobby to complete the check in process. William, who I had called repeatedly throughout the day with updates on our eta, was all ready to walk us to our suite. He was completely charming. Making us feel more than welcomed, actually excited we had chosen the hotel for our trip. Once we arrived at our room, we were delightfully surprised. It's a complete suite with two bathrooms, full kitchen, living area and a lovely separate bedroom with a lovely king bed. The furnishings are over the top luxurious. Big fluffy pillows, soft sheets, and a pillow top bed. Plenty of space, a gorgeous veranda with chairs, multiple LED TV's, free Wifi, free parking, free full breakfast!!! Also, free bikes, free beach chairs, and free umbrellas - doesn't this sound amazing? It is. It's as if someone really thought of every possible comfort and included it in the nightly rate. We are completely ecstatic and looking forward to an outstanding visit. read more

The rooms are huge, beautiful and a lot of thought was put into designing them. The room I stayed in was rather dark and heavily decorated in modern decor intended to represent old Italy. It was so nice to have two bathrooms, a separate bedroom, a full kitchen and a balcony with a partial ocean view. The whirlpool bath was very relaxing in a candlelit bathroom. Our room was on the fourth floor. The window in the bedroom had a very thin shade, which made the room hard to sleep in after about 7:00 a.m.. As large and expensive as our room was, it wasn't really suitable for more than one couple. However, it is a luxurious way to spend a romantic holiday. read more

Me and three of my friends booked to stay in a four person hotel. We are students at University of Georgia and were staying here because of the GA/FL game. If you are a student DO NOT STAY HERE. they are so rude, when we checked in they threatened us about having extra people in a room, and did not make us feel welcome. I don't know if it was because we were young or what but they were not accommodating at all. We put glitter on outside on the balcony and they charged us a 200 dollar fine for the "extra cleaning" though the inside of the room was left almost spotless. read more

Just returned from a stay at Ocean Lodge. The weather ended up shortening our visit, but we were pleased with our stay. The room was very clean (this is saying a lot as I am a clean freak) and larger than anticipated. Even the balcony was spacious! David at the front desk, was extremely helpful and patient with all our questions. We loved our stay at Ocean Lodge! The room we originally booked (penthouse) needed repairs when we visited, so we had to stay in another room, but the Ocean Lodge staff went above and beyond to make up for that. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a bottle of champagne, as well as rose petals leading to the bedroom. They also treated us to a dinner at the Rooftop, which was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the calamari. The drinks and service were great as well. The staff at the front desk checked in on us, and quickly brought us anything we needed. It was a quick, easy walk to the beach and a short bike/walk to many restaurants and shops. We can't wait to come back! read more

Best night's sleep I've ever had in a hotel anywhere on Earth. Not that I've stayed on any other planets... Exceptionally well appointed room. I stayed Thursday through Tuesday night, caught the moon rise party at the roof top deck and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Wine and beer selection were outstanding, as were the hors d'oveures. Class act. I was actually supposed to check-out on Monday morning but had my dates wrong when I made the reservation. When I came back after working all day Monday, the owner, Joe, smiled and let me know of my mistake in a most charming manner. I was totally caught by surprise which he found a little amusing. Luckily, Joe let me stay at my same rate for the additional night and I had a nice glass of cabernet on the deck to salute his southern hospitality. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Do NOT stay here, they will rip you off. The website is misleading when you make a reservation. Other hotels give you a total when you stay for several days, this one does not! They make it seem like you are making the reservation for the entire time. I thought I was staying for a $300 special and it ended up being $1,100. I don't care how nice it is or isn't. Then when you call try to talk to them, they offer to change your reservation, but want $500 a night! Absolutely absurd!!! Stayed for two nights. Very unpleasant experience. Came in a little after 1 pm. The girl at the desk didn't even bother to greet us, just said that they don't have clean rooms because check out is at 11 am. That came as a surprise since the place is small- only 15 rooms. So for over two hours housekeeping didn't manage to clean one room? I asked her to give us a call when one becomes available, she said sure. That call never came. We went back at 4 pm. There was different person at the desk and this is how she greeted me- I have been told you have two kids and one is a teenager. Excuse me?!? First, how about hello and welcome, second, no, we do not have a teenager, but even if we did, so what? You will charge me for a child? In a room with sofa bed? Next thing, she hands me a real, metal key and says here is your key (ONE KEY, so since the door automatically locks when closed nobody can nap inside, since you have to get up and open the door if your party splits), the key pad on the door is not working. Hmm, ok. Get to the room. As said before by others, the rooms are filthy. Your feet are black if you walk barefoot. Shower door in one bathroom hardly closes, dust everywhere, dirty silverware, only two washcloths and no soap at one of the sinks. No detergent in the kitchen, no tabs for dishwasher. Trash on the balcony and hair in the bed, stains on sofa mattress. No linen for the pullout couch. When brought, the blanket had holes. Torn window curtains. The place was one of the dirtiest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in my life. Pool was closed, boarded to be exact. We founded that out on our own, since at check in after handing us the key, she didn't say anything. No info on breakfast, parking, wi-fi, restaurants, beach, nothing at all. We had to ask where the elevator is because the woman just went totally mute. So, the one star is for location- very close to the beach. That is about the only positive. If you like cheap baroque, you would like the interiors of the rooms too. To me they just masked the dirtiness and I would rather have a simpler room, but clean and tidy. So bottom line, for that kind of money you can stay in a nicer, cleaner place. Very disappointed. read more

My dinner at the Ocean Lodge rooftop restaurant was wonderful! The filet was so tender that I could almost cut it with my fork. We sampled the fried green tomatoes, fried okra, and crab cakes as well. Everything was delicious! This place is terrific. We booked a 6 night stay for our honeymoon because we love Saint Simons so much. We have stayed in several condos on the beach, The King and Prince, and all the village hotels. This is now our favorite, hands down. It's intimate like a B&B but private like a hotel. The staff is fantastic. They are friendly and helpful from the time you make the reservation until the end of your stay. True Southern hospitality, they run this place perfectly. For slightly more than a regular hotel, you get a kitchen, living area and gorgeous bedroom with a jacuzzi tub/shower. There's a separate FULL bath with a gorgeous shower. If you were to have someone stay on the sofa bed, you can close the doors to the bedroom for privacy and the 2 bathrooms gives the extra person a bathroom if their own. The balcony is huge. 2 lounge chairs and a table with 2 chairs. We ordered take out so we could enjoy the balcony! It's across the street from the beach so the views vary by room. The 4th floor and penthouse have the best views. We stayed in room 301. Nice, corner room. Small ocean view. The sound of the waves and ocean breeze made us spend a lot of our time on the balcony. Free continental breakfast was great for us. We grabbed a small bite or yogurt and fruit and were not too full to go eat a nice lunch. There is a small exercise sized pool on the 4th floor, and a fitness center. Huge deck for catching some sun. The 5th floor Rooftop Bar is great to grab a bite and some drinks. Great place if you don't want to leave the hotel. Eat, drink and go back to your room! The beach access is right across the street and down about 2 houses. I have limited walking ability and it's easy for me. The village is walking distance as well. Maybe 1/2 mile. There's a place for rental bikes to be stored in the garage. The best way to get around! The hotel is pet friendly for a nominal fee. There is a great big courtyard and grassy area for your dog to take care of business. There are adjoining rooms if you want/need. I saw a small crib being taken to one of the rooms, however, Sea Gate seems to have more families while this tends to be more adults. Can't wait to comeback! read more
