We've had a great stay here. It's like being In a condo. Beach is right across the way. Can walk to the pier and the pier village. Kitchen is fully loaded. Nice large bathroom room area. It was nice to have a washer/dryer. The management here is wonderful and so accommodating. Having the pool has just been wondering. We've used it every day. read more

This was my servin stay here and it was just as great a stay as the first. Located at Ocean Blvd and Second Ave, Sea Gate Inn is definitely the place to stay in SSI. It's a great value and the property is beautiful and not to mention right across from the beach. There's plenty of parking in the front and back and there's also parking underneath the building and there's a space to lock up your bikes too. The rooms have high ceilings which just make them feel super big. The bedroom is spacious with a sitting area and a really comfy bed. The bathroom has an enclosed toilet, a separate shower (a biggggggff one) and jacuzzi style tub and there's even a washer and dryer. The kitchen area is pretty tiny but hey, we didn't use it that much but it was fully stocked with dinnerware, glasses, and utensils. So you can definitely bring groceries here and cook alllll you want. The cleaning staff comes daily to tidy up your space too. There's also a pool on the property but what I love most are the views of the beach. It's not too far from Mallory St and you can bike just about anywhere from here and not be run over by a car. Just a beautiful place to enjoy a vacay in SSI. read more

Trying to travel with a family of five is not as easy as it seems. It's nice for the three kids to have their own space and for the parents to have their own space as well, right? The Sea Gate Inn located on Ocean Boulevard and Second Avenue was the perfect spot for us on our two day beach vacation in St. Simons Island, Ga. I wasn't sure what I was booking and the $202 per night cost (midweek) seemed a little too good to be true. But, the photos seemed accurate and the reviews were pretty good, so I went on with the booking. The five of us arrived a little early for checkin (around 1pm) and Joseph who was working the arrivals let me know it might be a while until we could get into our room. No problem, IMO. We were prepared to wait it out on the beach, which by the way is on the other side of the road - about 200 yards away. I had been on the beach for about 45 minutes when Joseph called me to let me know our room was ready. Met up with him, got the keys, got the baggage cart and unloaded. This is not a hotel room, it's a very nice condo unit with full kitchen, washer and dryer, which is key at the beach, and a lovely bedroom and bath. I could go on, but trust me when I say that the Sea Gate Inn will definitely impress you with it's easy to navigate location to the beach and dining. The centrally located pool is a nice plus as well. Can't wait to go back. read more

OMG. We had not been to the Golden Isles in a while. Searched for hotels that were all expensive and lucked up on this place. It is across the street from the ocean and we could see it from our balcony. When we walked in we could not believe the size, quality and furnishings. It is far enough from the village to be away from traffic and congestion, but close enough to the ocean, restaurants, sight seeing, and parks. Everyone has been so nice. A little of southern charm that I miss living in a large city. read more

What I expected was a nice hotel room. What I got was a well-appointed apartment near the ocean! There was a blank lot and street that buffer the building from the water. Though not right on the oceanfront, the sound of the waves could be heard when the windows and/or balcony door are open. If you've brought a car, parking was available in the lots or covered parking on the bottom floor. Bike parking was also available in the covered parking lot. The insides: The apartment had high ceilings and solid walls which mitigate most neighboring noise. The living room was lovely, nicely furnished with comfortable chairs and a sofa. A full kitchenette and dining area share the same, large space. The kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, cups, plates, utensils, etc. No need to haul everything from home. I enjoyed having a cup of tea in the morning on the balcony overlooking the pool, listening to the sound of the ocean. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable. In case you're staying for a while, there was a dresser, desk, and a cozy chair for reading. If a shower wasn't enough, there was a jacuzzi tub for a relaxing bath. Multiple sinks minimize the bathroom-hogging. In-unit washer & dryer were very convenient for doing a load of laundry after we had played outside all day. The caveat: There seemed to be very little staffing around the premises. Check-in involved going up to a phone and getting a code to get your key out of a lock box. I saw one housekeeping staff during the mornings. Guests are on their own at night. During our stay, there were guests that seemed to be involved in some sort of domestic violence and police appeared several nights in a row at really late/early hours (e.g., 2:30am). The noise from the fighting was pretty loud in this otherwise quiet place. There was no security service or staff, which was unsettling especially when incidents like these occur. My travel companion contacted Sea Gate about these events but they didn't seem to know anything happened on their property and seemed apathetic to it. Overall, the Sea Gate Inn seems like it could be a nice place to stay but be aware of surroundings and safety. While the amenities are nice, I don't know if I'd book here again. read more

The place is more like a condo or luxury apt. building than a hotel. It's a solid building with three floors and an elevator and is right across the street/ grassy lot from the ocean which you can see from some (all?) of the rooms. Our room had a nice balcony with small table and two chairs that overlooked the pool and you could see the ocean. The furnishings are tasteful and luxurious. The small kitchen has fridge, double burner stove (but no oven), microwave and dishwasher, basic pots, pans, dishes, small coffee maker, etc. There is a table for four, a fold out couch, two flat screen tvs, and a really big bathroom with bathtub with Jacuzzi jets and separate really nice shower. Oh yes - washer/dryer. Everything worked and was clean and beautiful. The only problem was the lack of a person to check you in (or out) - you have to call and get the code for the key box - plus we got there too late (5:01pm) to get pool towels - luckily we had our own. There are NO restaurants or shops on property. There is a small pool with lots of chaise lounges and tables with umbrellas. The underground parking garage is great because in the summer your car isn't burning up. It's really close to the main area / lighthouse / pier, and some good seafood restaurants the other way, all of which you can walk to or ride bikes. I saw bikes for rent but we didn't do that. One great thing is that you get to use the sister property's HUGE pool and nice fitness center, which is a 10 minute drive through a lovely area. Looking over this, I think the only reason I didn't give it five stars is the check-in mix-up; they need to make the instructions very clear and give guests warning that not one staff member will not be on property during check-in time. Better yet, if they would have someone there from 9am - 9pm, I would give it five stars for sure. read more

I'm in a beautiful suite, on my birthday listening to EAR-SPLITTING. Construction right outside my balcony. Yelling, hammering, saws, heavy metal music blasting. They arrive before 7 and start unloading. I want to hear the beach, but forget that. There's earth moving equipment out there. I called the property manager who said of course "nothing we can do" and reported that there WAS no construction that morning when she was in leasing office. Yet A worker here said nobody was even in the office that day. I came from Atlanta to get away from noise and construction and got more of it! Do something. read more

There are few places that feel like home when on the road. We just spent a weekend at Sea Gate Inn. It was comfortable and welcoming from check-in at the office to the first look at the ocean view. Furnished in higher-end, designer style, plenty of towels, a usable kitchen. Coulda stayed for good. But it was the little touches - turndown service, notes about the next day's weather, under-building parking. They just made it easy. Location is ideal. Neighborhood is quiet. This should be your go-to place on St. Simon's Island. And it's only a block away from the Ocean View Rooftop Bar. A magic combination read more

Unfortunately this was not a great experience. We were locked out of our room 3 different times. The keyless entry system obviously has issues or the staff doesn't know how to operate the system! The pool was not open on time...the signs indicated it opened at 9 am but at 10 am it was still locked and the front desk staff had great difficulty opening it up!! The pool area was completely filthy...trash and dirty towels were scattered around! We will not be back and encourage others to stay away!! read more
