I have been to two other PT offices for pelvic floor issues. I figured they were okay, but Lissa was the only one who even did an initial evaluation of me! Duh! How else to know if I've improved? You can tell Lissa cares and that's half the battle for us patients. I know it's crazy for healthcare professionals with so many patients, but Lissa takes the time and listens. She has also come up with some out-of-the-box suggestions that are helping. Since I have several doctors trying to help me with the same issue, Lissa makes a point to read their reports. I also like their exercise app for two reasons: it provides reminders to do my exercises, and it has videos to remind you how to do the exercises. A patient in pain should never be treated the way I was treated at Ocean physical therapy. Evelyn and the front desk personnel provided clear examples of how NOT to treat patients. EVER. They don't appear to understand that the physical therapy profession has a fiduciary duty and ethical responsibility towards patients to always put the patient's welfare above theirs. In looking at other reviews in Yelp, it appears I had the same experience at Ocean as Stella L., another patient. I was told by Tracy at the front desk to call Evelyn and discuss my situation (a small misunderstanding with the insurance regarding coverage). To be very clear, I told Tracy at least ten times that if the insurance didn't cover for a specific evaluation I would gladly pay out of pocket, WHICH I DID, however, since the insurance assured me that the service was covered, I called Evelyn to give her the reference number from the insurance, as advised by Tracy. However although I DID EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TOLD by Tracy at Ocean front desk to do, ie call Evelyn, --- Evelyn started screaming at me when I called her, telling me that she didn't need anything from me (no forms, no reference number, no medical code). She also told me in a raised voice that "Tracy was wrong to tell" me this and that "what Tracy told" me "was incorrect". She basically told me several times in a very disrespectful manner to stop talking because she was "not interested" to hear anything I had to say. My husband was there with me overhearing the conversation, and he was looking at me in disbelief since he could hear Evelyn scream at me for no reason. Evelyn not only refused for 5 times in a row to listen to anything I had to say, and to get any information that Tracy told me to give her, but was also disrespectful and curt. Extremely unprofessional. It is extremely unfair to set a patient up like this, and to get them caught in the middle of a disagreement between two Ocean staff members. These guys really need to get their act together because this lack of communication between their staff members could be very damaging and upsetting to a patient in pain who goes to their facility hoping to get treatment and compassion, and instead gets unjustified scolding and screaming. And to add insult to injury, when I tried to share what happened with the business owner, she took me to a dark room in the back where she scolded me for 10 minutes and although she was completely misinformed about my situation, stated that I was the one speaking badly to their administration staff, and when I requested proof, none was offered. When the business owner took me to the room in the back first she scolded me for having called Evelyn, although it was Tracy on her staff who told me to call Evelyn and gave me her phone number (!!!!) Extremely unfair and unjustified treatment, especially since I was in excruciating pain due to my rotator cuff injury, and I had just completed a visit with my orthopedic surgeon who confirmed I had a tear. The personnel in PT offices should be people who chose to work in physical therapy for the noble goal to help patients in pain and try to stop pain and suffering, and not just for making a good profit - which seems to be the case here. Playing these kind of power games on patients in pain is certainly not a display of compassion. I am a medical professional myself and have not seen these behaviors before. I am so sorry I picked this place, although they have good physical therapists who try to do good work for patients, dealing with the administrative staff and business owner can be extremely challenging, especially for a patient who is crying in pain and gets ZERO compassion when needing it most. Think twice before selecting this place for your physical therapy. read more

My brother, who has a dementia with Parkinson's symptoms, has been treating with Austin (DPT) and Renee (trainer) for approximately 9 months: initially for strengthening and balance after recovering from a fall. Subsequently he has been doing personal training twice a week with Renee (she consults with Austin to ensure the best fit of exercise for him). We have been so pleased by the treatment and his progress. At his visit with his neurologist last week, she noted improvement in his stride and step length. She was so impressed with the strengthening protocol that she gave me her card and asked to have them call her. She told Michael that in order to maintain his functionality he needs to continue this exercise, otherwise he'll begin to decline. We are so grateful and appreciative for the extended independence he experiences because of their thoughtful care! read more

Recommend here because my son came here. It was great, until you have a complaint. One young tech doesn't know how to speak and encourage people. I don't like that at all. Got up and went to speak to the owner. She understood but also explained because it was 2018 yr end they were swamped. The physical therapist then told me, I should have spoken to him first because it's his responsibility. Well, I speak to who the ultimate decision maker is. They can sort out how the chain of command works. To be told in so much I went above him, well it's my health. I stopped going in Dec because they were so swamped. And after my complaint I didn't feel so welcomed Did they help me? Yes. Have I ever heard back from them because I just stopped going? No. No patient follow up. They say they're the best. Maybe they are but, now I have another shoulder issue and will go to another place recommended by my San Clemente podiatrist. Heck, I'll even drive farther for a better facility. I really hate when that happens and fortunately I didn't feel that way at all here. The staff is not only very knowledgeable but exceedingly personable. I am currently receiving treatment for an injury that caused compartment syndrome. I am very nervous and anxious about my injury and their staff has been so helpful and understanding. So informative! - DC (Dwip Chokshi) has been my therapist during every appointment and he is amazing. DC is an incredible and patient with me which I greatly appreciate. therapist He has gone out of his way to help me with pain and anxiety associate with my injury. He talks me through every exercise and relaxes during my sessions. He challenges me when I need to be challenged and pushes me each session to do more. DC even helps me prepare for my appointments with my doctor so I feel confident and informed. This is a fantastic physical therapy facility very clean organized and thorough with their own internal gym and when I went there a doctor and physical therapy evaluated me very thorough and came up with a fantastic plan as she handed me off to a trainer who worked with me on the various plans recommended. I've only been coming to Ocean Physical Therapy for a short time but I've already made leaps and bounds with my recovery. This place is so much better than the other physical therapy places I've gone to! There's no assembly line type of treatment, like you will experience elsewhere. If you're looking for individualized care from people who care that you actually get better, as well as extremely effective treatment, look no further. Their gym is spotless and the equipment is all state of the art. I had surgery on both of my feet. The last PT place I went to would have left me in irreversible shape, had I continued. There's a small window of opportunity you have when it comes to regaining your toe flexibility and it's not something to take lightly. When time is running out, you better hope your physical therapy place is good, unless you want to suffer from permanent effects after an injury or surgery. I consider myself to be fortunate that I found Ocean Physical Therapy. Had I not come here, I would have definitely had scar adhesion and I certainly wouldn't have healed as well. I was not getting better at my last place and they weren't doing all that needed to be done, which was frustrating. At Ocean PT, I feel like I'm finally making progress with people who know what they are doing. I highly recommend Ben. I walked in one day with a limp and left without one. It's insane how quickly his magic hands were able to help me. Lissa is amazing and quite frankly, the entire staff has been great. Also worth noting, I see a lot of kids doing physical therapy here. Toward the end of my recovery after having two cervical vertebrae removed and replaced, my surgeon prescribed physical therapy. Fortunately for me, Ocean PT is just blocks from my house. And they are the finest PT service I've yet to encounter over the past few decades. Jess is an absolute professional. She attends to each client with attentiveness that addresses individual needs. Aside from a great sense of humor and personality, she has her doctorate and thoroughly understands her patients' unique needs and designs an individualized PT program. And after dealing with pain from a nerve running from my neck down my right shoulder and into my arm with meds that not only didn't produce relief but depressed the hell out of me, I now feel virtually pain-free after just a couple of weeks working with Jess and the Ocean PT team. I can't recall who referred me Ocean PT but I'm extremely pleased I "stumbled" into their office!! As ex college basketball player in the early 80's and relatively tall (6'9") my body's been through several surgeries from 4 knee scopes, neck, toe and my most recent, full knee replacement in December. Having that history, I've seen my share of physical therapists with the same feeling each time I went, "can't wait for my session to be over with"....not with Ocean PT's team!! For me, part of the healing is getting your mind right so it helps tremendously when you walk into their office; the mood is already up....way yupp!! Their entire staff is pleasant, upbeat and they really take a genuine interest in wanting you to progress. On a couple occasions, I've walked in there not the right mindset to start therapy only to be lifted up the moment I hit the reception desk...the rest is downhill and I walk out in a hell of a lot better frame of mind. I'd like to thank my therapists, Lissa, Char, Erica, Clara, Mike and their rest of their team for their continued support in getting me better. Facility is nice and clean with an airy feel due to the full line of floor to ceiling windoes. Equipment is well kept but ultimately the five star rating has nothing to do with the facility.... It's the people. I have worked with at least four different therapists there (Erica and Marriane are my main ones now) over the course of dealing with two different cases (broken ankle and hip issues). They all share the same trait... They care. This goes for the PT assistants as well (Monica, Clara, Mike, Holly, Melissa have all worked with me). There is a general feeling from the entire staff that they want you to succeed in your goals of getting better . They share information back and forth between therapists to get the best collective knowledge available and are constantly monitoring when you do your exercises and stretches. They genuinely listen to your feedback and make suggestions based on the info they get from you . I've been other places where they just print off a six week program that is a standard template and you are told to come in and do the exercises on your own . This is the complete opposite. Be prepared to spend some time. Do your exercises at home as well and they will get you better. Highly recommend . read more

Owner of Ocean Physical Therapy not interested in helping atheletes. Upon my son who is a San Clemente wrestler received therapy for a shoulder injury at OP Therapy, we paid for a personnel therapist to work with him (we paid cash not reduced insurance rates). We were told before the first appointment he could come outside of his scheduled appointments to workout and work on his shoulder exercises. During his appointment they instructed him on use of the gym equipment, he was excited. Then when he tried to come work-out the owner change the story and wanted to charge us an hourly rate for use of the gym. The staff was surprised at the owners change in policy. Business is slowing, some staff are leaving so the owner needs to make up the money's some way. She should have told us before we paid for the instruction on the equipment that she was changing her policy. It is unfortunate as the instructors were nice and professional but the owner (who would never come to meet us, always busy with paperwork), would not return our phone calls or emails and is not interested in helping athletes. read more
