I've visited this store a handful of times for random needs, and usually walk out with a whole lot more than I walked in looking for. The prices are cheap and they carry a wide variety of randomness. Need a new Kayak? Check. Need some facial cream, and new bathroom rugs or decor? Check. Need some groceries and pet food? They've got that too. I don't really understand the method to their madness of retailing, and frankly it's sloppy. It's kind of a treasure hunt at the same time. I have noticed that there aren't many associates on the sales floor, so there's little to no help if you need it. I've not had any rude cashiers, or poor interactions, but nothing about any employee stands out here either.

Besides being a great visual improvement to the corner, this store, which opened about a month ago, provides a convenient option for basic groceries; health and beauty aids; and common household items, for people who don't wish to fight crowds at Walmart, or traffic on the busy Tiogue Avenue commercial strip. The parking lot can be accessed from either Nooseneck Hill Road, or Harkney Hill Road. While this store is smaller than most Dollar General Stores, it features two bathrooms, and a more attractive facade than its urban counterparts. For a chain store, it blends in fairly well with its rustic surroundings (although the bright yellow DG sign looks odd, being on such a low signpost). I found the store to have a few gaps in stock, and it was apparent that whoever was doing restocking got distracted from that task. A cart full of empty boxes completely blocked an aisle, and a ladder stood in another aisle, with no employee nearby. Perhaps the distracted one was the male employee who was so busy scanning something near the beverage coolers that he nearly bumped into me; he did apologize, though. His coworker at the register, a young man, was so thorough that he asked me for ID when I asked for cigarettes (for my wife - I don't smoke), even though I am past 50 and am getting a white beard. He was friendly, though, when I asked how long the store had been open.

It has a huge parking lot, with an entrance at a traffic light, so access is primo. The employees who work there are above-average in friendliness ... I am always greeted when I walk in the store, which is a rarity these days. Mainly, I use Family Dollar for things like laundry detergent, cleaning products, paper goods and personal care items. Their regular prices are low, and they do have advertised sales. They also have a basic selection of household goods, food items and clothing, so it's possible to do one-stop shopping, without fighting the crowds of a Wal-Mart. My only complaint is that the store is sometimes a little messy, with merchandise or trash on the floor, which in turn is probably a result of the store seeming understaffed at times, as another reviewer noted.

My husband told the cashier Corey that it is used as a purse and I would not leave it with strangers. He again said it needs to be left at the counter. So, my husband informed him we will be shopping elsewhere. I have never had this problem before and there is no sign stating this is a policy. It is incredibly rude to assume that I would steal and then expect me to trust him with my personal belongings. I will no longer be shopping here and will be contacting corporate as well.

I'm disappointed to report that this Stop and Shop location has seen better days…read more I usually only stop in if I'm in the area and in need of a few staple items for an upcoming recipe or impromptu gathering. The produce is hit or miss... they're either fully stocked or just crumbles left on the shelves. I usually scurry by the seafood counter because more often than not, it is malodorous. The rest of the place seems clean, there's just always that smell I don't perceive at other grocery store seafood departments. The rest of the store is fairly well stocked of late but the prices are out of this world. Pricing is up everywhere, don't get me wrong. I'm talking items that are significantly more than what I pay at my usual place each week. For example, lobster pricing at my go-to (non-sale price) was $9.99/lb while Stop and Shop was $15.99/lb same week! This is an extreme example but I always pay more for the same or seemingly lower quality. Parking lot is large, store is easy to get around. It's been fairly quiet my last couple visits, making for a quick in and out. Not a lot of people about. The staff are nice and attentive though. All in all, I prefer to take my business elsewhere.
