Located in the Wollaston neighborhood of Quincy in the same strip mall as Marshalls, this Ocean State Job Lot is a fun store to browse. It can seem a little disorganized in the aisles at times but if you're willing to spend just a few minutes in each aisle looking around you can get some good merchandise at very reasonable prices. I saw a worker fixing shelves and moving products to their proper places so I can definitely see that when the aisles need attention the workers are right on it. They have a good gardening section for those who like to grow their own indoor and outdoor plants. There is also a nice food department stocked with pastas, sauces, candies and snacks. I do enjoy browsing through their beauty aisle where you can find some good discounted cosmetics. Definitely not top shelf brands but it's always great to try something new and get a break on prices at the same time. Last time I was there I found some good cleaning supplies and trash bags for the house since I was running low on those types of items. My purchases on this visit to the store were the cleaning supplies that I needed plus I treated myself to a bag of cookies. There was a bit of a line at the front registers but it moved quickly. I always thought you can get great value on items here and they have shelves full of items you can use! I found recently that I bought a grill cover for my grill to replace one I had for years from a different company and thought that this one for the price would work nicely! You get what you paid for and found out that this item was a very thin plastic cover with elastic on the bottom and fused pieces . It fit nicely but it split at the seam as you can visually see on the photo where I had to repair it with duck tape . I should return it and shop elsewhere. But for now I need to cover my grill! Besides I threw away the packaging once I used it!******** If the manager sees this and says I can return it without the original packaging and my receipt THEN I WILL! read more

This Ocean State Job Lot on Newport Avenue feels smaller and tighter than the one out in Dedham, MA. I did however find a sparkling peach beverage for $3 that I'm interested in sampling, and their customer service was pleasant. read more

Plenty of items at great, fantastic value. I went there just to buy a gaiter mask, and they had plenty, all for less than $5. Worst customer service.. (7/25/2021) Sunday night came in to browse around with my gf and her mom. Picked up few items and wait on the line. Cashier was talking to some customer. (The cashier literally talking with her for 2-3mins) it was fine. Then when it was my gf's turn.. the cashier need to take a break to change some one, five and tens dollar bills. Seriously we are paying with credit credit and almost time for them to close. She can wait to do it after finish with us first. And my gf keep waiting. ( i should make a scene but due to respect of the cashier (old lady) i don't want to make disrespect or ruin anyone's day moment. The management really need to get FIRE.. read more

This store is OK, the food aisles are beautifully stocked with a hi-quality array for foodies. Some of the H&B aisles need better product ( when looking for OGX Shampoo, Conditioner not really wanting to by the BubbleGum Shampoo that has been sitting there unmoved for a better part of 1/2 a year). Now Check-Out: This is usually a roulette wheel of what register you pick. Last purchase there was this rather socially inept guy that took too much time at the register inquiring about my chosen items, what I was going to with them. There's good news and bad news with this place. The good----- First you can find all kinds of stuff hear that you might not easily find at other places. Second the discounts are often great! Third it's a small store so you don't have to wonder around for long distances. The not so good. It is not well not very organized and often hard to find things that you are searching for. There often is not much help with finding things but if you find someone they will try to help. Lastly, it can take a long time to get thru the cashier line- but this varies and sometime it can be OK- kind of pot luck Overall, I recommend it. Rich read more

I've always come here when I need something useful like masking tape and cleaning supplies. I used to live in North Quincy, so this place was pretty useful for knick knack-y things like shower liners, curtain hooks, etc. It is cheaper than Wal-Mart and Home Depot. Lots of stuff that you can find here for better prices - and with more of a variety too. The food. I wouldn't buy the food items at job lot because it's stale. I once bought crackers, and it was pretty stale tasting - I think it's because areas of the store aren't dusted well or just that the products aren't that great. read more

This is a smaller OSJL in the area. It is close to my house and I like to go there during off hours because the aisles get crampy. They do sell discounted brand name makeup which is always fun. Located besides Marshalls, it's a great spot. Tip: sign up for Internet coupons. read more

I have NEVER left Ocean State Job Lot empty handed. I think this store is amazing and I have found some really nice quality items here. It is a bit hit-or-miss, in that the inventory varied from week to week. I firmly believe that if you see something there you should get it, as it is not a guarantee that you will see it there again. I get a lot of my gardening supplies, art/craft supplies, and beauty products from Ocean Sate Job Lot at VERY discounted prices. I have also bought some of their food products here as well (mustard, salad dressings, spices, pasta). Decentish OSJL but kind of small. The aisles can get cramped if there's a lot of people in the store. There is a lot of parking and it is conveniently located right next to a Marshall's. The selection of socks was particularly awesome the last time I visited. I've also had success buying leggings and capris here. They have a great assortment of items for insulating your home like weather stripping and such in the fall and winter. Sales clerks could use some training in professionalism, however. read more

Holy crap i used to go to the job lot like at least once a week. Never really had something in mind when Iwent, but i used to come out with bags of crap, and i loved every minute of it. The food section was my fav because they always had hrd to find international foods, and no they were never rotten or out of date. It was just friggin awesome. Then my next stop was to the cookware/housewares which was awesome. I mean this location is small so the relaly jam pack it full with crap so its hard to walk through, but its awesome. We also used to get out pool chemicals from here as a bag of shock was only $1.99 as opposed tot he regular $4.99. Man, I really miss this place and wish there was one on the north shore. read more

I'm a big fan of the OSJL. Why pay over inflated prices for brand names at department stores when you can pay a fraction for practically the same thing here. Yeah, there is a lot of crappola here, and I certainly have walked out empty handed a number of times, but for the times I've been there and have discovered a diamond in the rough, it's been completely worth it. I like to pick up a lot of useful stuff here like tarps, bungie cords, painting/cleaning supplies, spices, cooking utensils, and disposable aluminum pans. One of my favorite recent purchases is a photography light tent, it should retail elsewhere for about $60, and I bought it here for $20! My biggest complaint is that this place is dirty/grimy. I realize this isn't Neiman Marcus, it's a discount retailer and thus your standards need to be a little bit lower, but they really need to work a bit more on keeping it up. Also, the store is very unorganized, the aisles are congested, whether it be from other shoppers or just having so much stuff there, the entrance is ridiculous because they have a ton clothing racks right up front that creates a bottle neck, and people stop to look at what they've got it creates a jam. Second is that there always seems to be l4-5 people waiting in line at all times. Typically when I go I'm on my lunch break and I have a limited amount of time to work with. I appreciate that they do a heavy volume of business, and yes, sometimes you have to wait in line, and I could always come back after work when I'm not racing against the clock, but still, I think I should be able to get in, grab a few things I need, and out within ten or fifteen minutes. As I said at the beginning, I'm a big fan of OSJL, and getting the biggest bang for my buck, so I won't stop going any time soon! read more

Standing a few customer behind an average looking lady who was having some difficulty checking out due to some questions about item she had bought/ returned at a different location. Then I saw an employee came out of his way from the other side of the store to the register next to ours. Thought he was being helpful by jumping into the next register because the lines were getting Iong. I asked if he was opened. He replied no. And then he just loitered inside the cash register area. Finally it hits me that he came to the cash register to give him a better look of the customer's butts. read more

My friends talk smack about Ocean State Job Lot, joking about the type of things you can catch from using the restrooms at this tore. This location is not as large/ clean as my favorite store in CT and actually I'm pretty sure they don't even have a bathroom, so I'm taking off one star. I think bargain stores should not have to be in perfect order. The chaos and random stuff everywhere is part of the fun/ excitement. Ocean state job lot as a chain in general has awesome stuff for cheap. I particularly love their kitchen section... yesterday I got a one dollar serrated bread knife, and shampoo and conditioner for a dollar each! They often have gourmet chocolate like Lindts and Giardelli for half the price. You can find some really good steals here. read more

I tell everyone that Ocean State Job Lot is one of my favorite things about New England that I discovered (after moving here several years ago). Each of the three towns in MA I've lived in has had one, so that's been great. You never know what you're going to find - that's probably why they go by "home of adventure shopping". It's a quirky, low-budget, bargain-hunting kind of place. I once took a picture of some makeshift price signs that an employee had made out of paper plates and placed on the clothing racks. (Did they run out of sign holders?) Hilarious! I buy anything and everything from light bulbs, writing supplies, and greeting cards to olive oil, spices, canned goods, and even occasionally, clothing. The interior is nothing amazing, and the aisles are a bit narrow....sometimes you do have to wait a bit for an open register. Oy. Beware of expiration dates as some of the product shipments are old. For example, the makeup products vary in quality and condition. You never know what you're going to find. But then....that's why it's the home of adventure shopping! This is not the nicest OSJL that I've been too (the one in Dedham is much larger and cleaner), but it's not that bad. I like to take my son here on rainy days when we have nothing to do and just spend a little time looking around. I usually let him pick out some cheap-o toy to get, which makes him happy. My favorite "departments" (if you can call them that) are the hardware section, which has very cheap lightbulbs and other household odds and ends, and the food section. Gotta make sure to check the expiration dates, but other than that, the food here is usually great, and a good bargain. read more

If I could give no stars I would, I walked in at 7:20 the store closes at 8pm, the front end woman was already harassing people over the intercom to check out, a customer walks in and she chirps out "cash only no cards" , and the store didn't close for 15 minutes. Who doesn't like cheap stuff? This place is totally overwhelming if it's busy, but they key is to make a trip there when you can invest some time and really explore what they have. It's not that big, but I guarantee you'll find something if you're patient enough to deal with it being a mini Building 19. Tips? Always always check the expiration date on the food. Then check it again. Don't be afraid to dig around and toss stuff around to find the perfect bath mat (I got mine for $1.50, and it's washable and has lasted almost 2 years). Great for athletic socks; you can get those one-size-fits-all packages for a couple of bucks, and you get like 10 pairs of socks. Stay away from the kitchen utensils - every single one has rusted within months. read more

The short-handle Princeton paint brushes are decent so long as you take good care of them. My favorite items in this store are the green tarps and other hardware items like metal clamps, bungie cords, painting tape, etc. I found a large mirror with a wooden frame here for $12 that cost $150+ at Home Depot or Lowes. The support beams started cracking due to over-tightening the screws, but I'm very happy with the mirror itself, which is crystal-clear and doesn't distort. The Cote d'Or dark chocolate bars with cacao nibs were great! Don't know if they are still selling them. read more

The store is much to small and cramped. It either needs to be remodeled or cleaned up much better. Prefer the Norwood or Dedham store .

Store is good, employees are pleasant. And prices are certainly amazing i understand its a small space. I guess you just have to be patient. So if you are pressed for time dont even try it. In the long run im just not sure its worth navigating through the aisles of crowded boxes and just overall clutter. I hope that all Ocean States arent like this one. read more

A fun place to browse and buy. A varied selection of clothing, food, hardware, housewares, pet supplies, sunglasses and reading glasses, office supplies, toiletries, gardening supplies, etc. etc. You get the drift. Not a department store, more of a hit and miss place. Prices are excellent. They buy overstocks and closeouts and remainders. Yeah, the aisles are narrow as other folks have mentioned. You may have to wait in line but the savings are worth it IMO. Plenty of parking in a big lot on busy Newport Avenue. They take credit cards. I just discovered this place on Sunday. Back at home, we have Big lots. Here we have the Ocean State Job Lot. I will never go to CVS again. Well, maybe only for womanly products. This place got everything, it will be under $20 and its a bargain. I get really excited about a good bargain. -really cool lunch containers $1.75 -spatula $1.25 -50 tea candles -$ 2.49 -pistasio nuts -$3.49 -two plastic cutting boards -1.25 -sunblock -$4. (same sold at CVS for $10.99) I was happy and satisfied. Yes, the place is a mess, but totally worth it. The aisles are crowded and you got to jump around. BUT they've got it all. And staff is really nice. Friendly and helpful. Yay! read more

If you're a bargain hunter like me, you'll love OSJL. There are bigger and nicer ones (hello, Dedham!), but the cramped, congested Quincy location suits me just fine. This is the place where I not only stock up on health and beauty aides, but also household supplies -- cleaners, mops, sponges, laundry detergent, etc. Nice little hardware and greeting card/gift wrap sections. I've bought yard tools here too as well as sheets/comforters. The latter are seconds from known manufacturers -- how could you NOT at least look at them, especially for the price point? Now for the food. This is place to get your Bob's Red Mill items as well as spices and the occasional gourmet item like dried mushrooms and those fancy kind of jams/jellies/preserves that cost an arm and a leg elsewhere. However, some of their prices are deceptive in that you may think you're getting a bargain because its OSJL, but if you compare OSJL's price to another store, the latter is actually cheaper in some instances (hey, the same thing can be said for Walmart!) Keep this in mind and you'll be fine. All in all, I love OSJL. I only wish the Quincy store was bigger. read more

I see this store as a competitor to "National Wholesale Liquidators". However, this store is much smaller and the aisles are narrow and cramped with merchandise. The stores does offer some good deals. I also like these kinds of store because they have things (like international foods) that you can't find in mainstream stores. The cashiers need to improve their customer service. The store also needs to do a better job keeping the outside area of the store clean. (It was full of debris when I visited.) read more

Really cheap stuff. Wouldn't trust their food products though. Once bought something, the item was completely shattered and broken. The place isn't very clean, but the items there are a bargain compared to WalMart or Target. Only thing I would not recommend to purchase are the food as some of them were tampered with. read more

It's almost impossible to not find something you need here at a ridiculously amazing price. My roommate and I went to buy some pots and seeds and they were crazy cheap. Also, they had tons of spices for 88 cents, bottles of pellegrino for $1.60 and 6 packs of polar ice for $1.50. We also got sunscreen for $4, which is a steal! We came for one thing, left with a ton, all for under $20 each. I can go nuts while still being thrifty, a hard balance to maintain, but easy here! read more

I went to job lot today looking for an aerobed , I was interested in a specific model, when I asked Jen, who seemed to be in charge , for help she was extremely rude abrasive. She took it off the shelf (over my head) put it on the floor, looked at me and walked away. It would have been easier to either hand it to me or put it in my carriage. I shop in Job Lot often and I am usually quite happy with the product and employees. However Jen was disrespectful and discriminating to a woman over 60. I spent $150.00 today and probably do that monthly, I am unhappy with my treatment today. Thank you read more
