they need to do better upon walking in. I noticed the musty moldy smell when I walked in then I saw the rug was stained, and when I went to get some food. Noticed mold in the tomatoes. The store needs to do better. This is disgusting and they should not be allowed to be open until they replace the mildew stained rug upon entry and make sure the food is fresh every day. The best of my shops at a Stop & Shop, this store is clean and large. The shelves are well stocked. The produce section is in great condition, the butcher bunkers were looking good and the gent who helped me in the deli was good. I'm not looking for a ton of stuff today as I'm touristing. Deli, drinks and good to go. Carts in the parking lot needed attention - there were several places that they were bunched up. Self-checkout worked fine and I was on my way. I believe that this is the "flagship" Stop & Shop as the corporate headquarters isn't far away. So i would expect it to be nicer than others and it is. When inquiring to the pharmacist about the security of my private information, he became extremely rude and stated they needed to verify who customers are. I then tried to articulate in another way about securing my personal information and asked if they had features like CVS has. He then stated I should go back to CVS and he doesn't need my business. So I am back at CVS, do yourself a favor and give your business to someone who appreciates you as a customer and who will keep your private information safe. Stop and shop has always provided a consistent product and overall cleanliness of their stores. However, this location fell short on all counts. The ladies bathroom was in disarray-- the covers for the toilet paper rolls were all ripped off and on the floor. I got the tomato mozzarella and kale salad. First of all, there was literally a piece of ice in it. Half of the tomatoes were partially frozen and it was so salty, after two bites it tasted as though I had just eaten a jar of pickles. I don't know why the employee did what she did to us but the fact that she did not even say sorry made this the worst experience I have had in stop&shop. My friend and I decided to stop by this stop&shop to get some food for his cat and some fruits as we were in Quincy for dinner. Since there was a lot of people, we decided to use the self checkout machine to save some time. We had only 5 products to check out, a small can of wet cat food, small pack of wet cat food, a nail trimmer, a bag of mandarin with the barcode and a bag of oranges without the barcode. We had everything scanned already, except for the two bags of fruits. We did not know how to scan the bag of oranges due to the fact that there was no barcode. We tried but it did not work, therefore we waited for the employee to come help. She quickly solved the problem and scanned the oranges. We thought the problem was solved because she left already, so we scanned the last item, the bag of mandarins with the barcode, and was ready to pay. But then this is the time when she came to us with the can of wet cat food and checked if we actually scanned it! We felt kinda offended already because she did not do this to other customers but we still let her check and told her we had scanned everything. She checked and scanned the can cat food AGAIN because she thought we didn't scan it but then we pointed out the cat foods in the system and told her they were listed as scanned already, so she removed what she scanned and went to grab the other cat food. After she realized the cat foods were both scanned, she checked the nail trimmer. Obviously the nail cutter was also scanned, so she left WITHOUT saying sorry. I'm not sure why she suspected that we did not scan everything. Is it because we were the only Asians using the self scanning machine? We dressed normally, not looking like homeless people or whatsoever. We even said "thank you" to her after she scanned the oranges for us. It would be more understandable if she checked only one thing, but checking everything we bought by bringing them to try scan them once more? Suspecting us that we were trying to steal 5 items? Why would we still stand there and try to pay if we were about to steal all of them? It would also be more understandable if she does so to other customers but she didn't. She could have said sorry for doing so but there was no apology or explanation. We are very disappointed! read more

While this location has pretty much anything and everything you could need from a grocery store, the quality of fresh produce is awful. Nothing like having to open 17 containers of strawberries before you find one without moldy or brown berries, having a rotten, limp bunch of scallions to select from or bags of rotting spinach to weed through. Most interesting is that the corporate office is less than a mile from this location. I live within walking distance to this S&S, and it suits my cooking and household needs. Oh and it has cat litter too. Very important. If I'm in the area or on the way home I'll come here and grab what I need. It's your standard S&S and I've never had a problem, so to speak, with this location. It seems to be crowded whenever I come to shop, but I'm okay with that. This location always has great sales on nearly everything. I always love perusing the savings aisle for stuff. The only thing that's sometimes a buzzkill is that this Quincy S&S doesn't have a beer and wine section (the one in NQ does). I mean there's the Old Colony liquor store further up the street so that could suffice I suppose. read more

95% of the time they do not have an express lane open for small orders, which defies common sense. I have a few items and have to wait in a line with people with full carts. I won't use self checkout. While inflation has been coming down they continue to raise prices, so it's corporate greed. They raised their price on packaged garden salad 110% in one day. Customer Service at this location is always bad but getting worse. At self checkout this afternoon, an employee pulled on my cart while my purse was in the cart and I asked him not too. He acted like my concern about my cart being pulled away was not and should not be a problem. My purse being rolled away from me wthout my permission WAS a problem. i have gone to Stop & Shop for over 25 years and recently have NEVER been treated like I have been lately. I use the self scan because for me it is Quicker and easier. the downfall is after I shop they audit my shopping cart, after making me wait while I do that they electronically jam the cart wheels so I cannot exit. This experience makes me feel like common criminal, and the explanation I get first was that "your card is not authorized to do self scan", and now it was " your order was too small ($70),"What the fu-k. glad I am moving away from here. read more

THE largest Stop&Shop in my history of shopping at so many of these stores. This Stop&Shop sits on Route 3A in Quincy, and while it may not be nearly as busy as the Newport Avenue location, it's larger in square feet, has some of the best management, and has a huge variety of everything. The store is absolutely huge, with 26 aisles to accompany and a large deli, Nature's Promise section, and the largest variety of international foods ever (four aisles of international is unheard of at any Stop&Shop.... too bad I don't shop in those aisles.....). Point is that instead of going to the gross looking Star Market on Granite Street, or any other supermarket, this place will have everything and more. Huge section of seasonal, home decor items, and holiday candy, and other gift items. They have 22 registers (also unheard of at other Stop&Shop locations), with 10 self checkouts in all, and SCAN-IT guns at both entrances to accompany. Prices are decent, and seem to be on the lower end in the area. The manager, Pat, is so friendly, kind, helpful, and does a wonderful job keeping the store clean, organized and well stocked, while it is one of the busiest Stop&Shop locations. They seemed a little short handed on the night I came, but if you don't do self checkout, it should only be about ten minutes to checkout.... at most. Monday nights are a specifically busy time, supposedly (according to the manager). Only downfall of this location is the customers. Make sure to watch out. When I was leaving the store, the police raided in because supposedly there were multiple drunk people in the store. Walking out, there were four police cars racing around the lot (SERIOUSLY!!!!) and it was just sort of annoying. From employees, this isn't something rare. Yikes. 4 stars for the Quincy 3A Stop&Shop. Better than Newport, but never will beat my local Stop&Shop. My suggestion is to shop here in the daytime, and not deal with the "interesting" folks who decide to come in here at 11pm on Monday nights. read more

I am writing this review based on the customer service at this S&S. I did a grocery shop here last night and was checked out by Li Li who happened to be the rudest check out cashier I've ever encountered. Li Li did not greet me nor said hello nor gave me a total amount after all my items were scanned, Just stood there expecting me to be able to look behind him and see what my total was. Very rude and unprofessional. If customer service isn't your thing Li Li then I suggest you learn to stack shelves after hours instead. read more

Fortunately for me, where I live, i have quite a few options to buy things I need for my culinary cravings, or for day to day cooking etc. This Stop and Shop is good enough for me when I want things that are staple which I don't get in other specialty grocery stores. Here are some of the things I like about this store and some tips for anyone who will be trying it for the first time: - The store is like a zoo over the weekends. So expect that and go knowing that would be the case. That is the case in every grocery store every where. So I cannot blame S&S for it. Let's get over it. - Other than that, this store is never over crowded on weekdays or later in the nights on weekends. Parking is very easy and ample (during the non zoo hours) - Staff: I have never had a problem with anyone. The check outs are always manned. The staff is always helping customers at self checkouts. In the aisles, I am almost always able to get hold of an employee without running around with my cart to find where I would find Rice Cups which my sick neighbor asked to get (Rice aisle - DUH me!). - Deli: Very helpful. The staff there has so got used to offering every Quinzeeite a slice of cheese / ham / turkey whatever they slice because everyone has got so used to munching on a slice to make sure everytime they get a slice of Deli, they have to test it before they buy it and make sure it is safe to buy the other 3 slices? Beats me - thanks but I will take that chance on the 4 slices I get for my sick neighbor because I don't eat low sodium Boarhead's Turkey - no, no, no - I don't. Thank you very much! - Meat / Poultry: Never got it from here so never had a problem. There is Roxie's right across the street. 78.49% cheaper meat - I like seeing my credit card bills smaller - as much as I can try at least! - Asian Staples: Never get anything from here. I have Kam Man market for everything Asian not too far away. - Seafood: Never got anything from here. Live Lobsters off the boat from Hough's Neck / Quincy Yatch Club every Friday/Saturday/Sunday during the season. Other sea food from Kam Man - Latino food: I am yet to find a good Latin grocery store in the area. So the International Aisle here in S&S is where you might find me if there is an emergency - if not the Ice Cream section. - Oh, I cannot forget the baking section. I have never had a problem finding all the baking ingredients I need here at S&S either. Sorry, I have never tried Kam Man or Roxie's for that (I am not unintelligent) In a nutshell, I don't have time to cut coupons that I detest to see in my mailbox. But the deals I see on things I need, I am quite at peace with them and get those things without rambling in my head about how much more I can save despite all the options I have listed above (somewhere human beings need to stop over analyzing every aspect of everything that they come across - am I telling me?). Let me share a little something with you Yelp readers, I am from California. Now in addition to having excellent produce, our grocery store chains are all unionized. When I worked at a grocery store as a teen I was payed VERY well to bag groceries, and Checkers made SERIOUS $$. The end result is superb customer service, smiles, and leaving with your groceries with a feeling like you were supporting a great community store. Now that you know where I come from you can understand why I MUST write this review. Stop and Shop on southern artery is a dump, if you are able to find a parking spot without 3 or 4 carts in it you are lucky, their produce is barely edible and the staff is as another review mentioned teenagers or 'weird adults'. I have often wondered what the management and corporate executives are thinking buy running a store that literally offers nothing but sub quality goods and often dirty and eccentric staff. The answer is easy, why make it better when the people of Quincy will shop there in the state its in?! If it aint broke don't fix it right? I have NEVER hated a grocery store more than this place, they literally make it difficult for me to spend money there because I hate them so much. Want some late night snacks? Opps sorry even tho they say they close at 12 they really lock it down at 11:30. Want some cheese sliced in the Deli? Opps they don't do that. Want a particular cut of meat?! Opps sorry out of luck there too. In all honesty these are just a few of the MANY things that have happened to me at Stop and Shop. All in all spending money at Stop and Shop is like paying to be treated like shit, and then when you get home getting the surprise that every perishable you bought is shit as well. Its all shit. In an economy like this with people DYING for good jobs Stop and Shop is full of douche-bags. Fire the whole store tear it down and rebuild it from scratch. I think I can sum this place up in one sentence. The produce section sucks. It's really that simple. I have had numerous occasions where I went in for some vegetables or herbs for a recipe and left with no idea what I was going to make for dinner because a piece of the puzzle was missing. It's the most basic produce section. I'm not asking for some obscure fruit that is only found in one region of the world...I'm asking for more than one choice of kale, more than 2 kinds of peppers...maybe even a slightly bigger herb section. It's really a shame that customer service is not a priority for this market. Time and time again I've shopped here over 5 years because of the proximity. Deli department is awful. Loud inappropriate non child friendly lyric music played as deli worker cleaned up and shut down deli. Worker dropped f bombs while chatting with another worker. Heavy set, bearded male worker behind courtesy desk is unprofessional and not friendly. The courtesy desk is supposed to be the area where MORE pleasant service is deemed necessary. There seems to be a push for customers to bag their own groceries and bring their own bags, as there is hardly ever a bagger and the plastic bags have gotten so thin, they break easily. Only one check out lane with a cashier is open and all self checkouts are available so you're almost forced to self check out. This is NOT good customer service. This is what happens when unioned employees work in the customer service industry. Managers need to write-up and fire employees, and / or re train them. Cashiers need to smile and thank the customers. YOU are not doing me a favor.....I and other customers are allowing you to have a job. Understand the concept. Customers will get tired of the bad service and not shop there, then your hours will diminish. Understand? Starts at the top.....get you act together upper management. Watch how the employees are interacting with customers, you will see what I am talking about. Roche Brothers and Market Basket will now get my business. Shame on you all. read more

It's not good, but it's not bad. Working during the day, the only times I really shop are at night and on the weekends, which basically means I shop at the same time as everybody else in the working world. I am probably a bit jaded by almost getting run over by a shopping cart or taken out by a stray child every time I shop here. Prices are middle of the road, selection is decent, store is huge which mitigates the crowds a bit. Produce section leaves A LOT to be desired. It seems like they stock it first thing in the morning, and just leave supply to dwindle throughout the day. Also Greek yogurt selection is always picked over and empty by the time I get there (random, but important to me). Additionally, no booze, and deli line can take forever. Overall a pretty average experience. Honestly, I've resorted to using Peapod over half the time to avoid the crowds and constantly picked over selection to be found at this location. read more

Stopped going to S&S because I don't support Companies that don't listen to their customers. Apparently S&S has forgotten that shoppers have "other options" to purchase groceries. At a gathering with friends and neighbors we were discussing the fact that it seems like 90% of the music that S&S plays in their stores is bad and seems to be done by the SAME group of people. Bad, same voices, same style, repetitious and no variety making for a poor "atmosphere" while shopping in their stores. We all decided to send our feedback to them. Instead of adding more variety to what they play in their stores they seem to have INCREASED the amount of songs from this one group. They are most likely trying to save on royalties by contracting with one group but they are now losing at least me as a customer and who knows how many others. read more

This store was my first job in high school. This store is always busy. I prefer to go there at 6 am in the morning before work. I don't think it is as hectic as the one on Newport Ave, but it's still bonkers. My bank is there, however they need more than one ATM there are yesterday I waited a good five minutes to use the machine. They also need more people at the customer service desk as it seems there is always an old lady fighting with an associates about how her 50 cans of cat food didn't ring up for the sale price, or a guy taking his sweet old time picking out which scratch tickets he's going to buy. My tip: Go there on off hours to be in and out. read more

Four Stars is for responding to my complaint. The experience is mostly 3 star most of the time. After a particular 1 star experience while I waited in line for over an hour (seriously, not even exaggerating) I wrote an email to the store manager complaining about the lack of cashiers at that particular time. They responded by sending me a $25 dollar gift card and their assurance that they would work on their staffing. Low and behold the next few times I went there were way more cashiers. So Kudos. I shop here consistently and while the meat and produce can be on the expensive sides I make sure to go to Roxie's across the street and buy what I can there and do the rest of my shopping at S & S. I'm sure there is nothing they can do about it but trying to take a left hand turn out of this parking lot is pretty much the same as having a death wish. There needs to be stop lights. read more

I agree with everything Greg O. said. A big reason why we shop here is the self-scanner system. You get a little hand-held scanner to carry around with you to scan your food as you go. This is really useful for keeping track of how much you've spent, which is important to us! You can also order your deli items via a kiosk and then go back to pick them up, which beats waiting on line. Usually I can find what i need unless it's something fairly uncommon. Sometimes the meat section is a bit thin in terms of actually having the cut I'm looking for. The produce section is usually pretty good, but I've found the hot pepper selection in particular to be fairly hit or miss. (The super stop and shop on Newport Ave has a better produce selection.) I definitely prefer this store over the Shaws on Granite Ave. read more

This is SO CONVENIENT! It's 24 x7. WOW! It's great for one stop shopping as they have most of everything I'm looking for. The food is decently priced and don't forget to use your stop and shop card. I like the self service when it's busy, and at night, I'll use the cashier. Large easy to get to parking lot. No mass craziness like Marketbasket in Somerville, but they don't have as good deals. However, I'll pay for that convenience. It's far less expensive than Hannaford and carries more items than Roche Brothers. read more

But, oh, they have six self-checkout lanes that are in a constant state of malfunction. And, good luck if you get behind the lady trying to put 57 coupons through the self-checkout kiosk. Supermarket reviews don't generally catch my attention but I was curious if others would respond to the new self checkout area. Read Bob B, completely on the money. Every thing you ring in gets rejected. I had someone come over about 15 times ringing in 20 items. Hard to bag in that area. if you have something like a case of water you're not going to put it in the bagging area after ringing. I've been there twice since they did it, figured the first time was just due to being new but they'd fix it. In the regular check out area there's not enough cashiers. Need to staff the front end better and fix that self checkout. Things are going downhill at Stop and Shop in general. Bring back Roy Smith!!!!! read more

The side that abuts Quirk Mazda, there is a broken down car that is parked on that side with a flat tire, tons of garbage and peoples clothing it looks terrible and I can't understand why no one goes out to pick it up hire a landscape company or another company to fix it to make it look better plus it is terrible for the environment shame on you Stop & Shop you would think you would want your stores appearance to look nice. read more

I was at this location not too long ago when a young female employee was sexually harassed by a male customer, and understandably upset. The officer stations at the store came over to check on her, and then the manager came over and lead her away from the register to check in and take a break. I was highly impressed with the handling of this situation. It's absolutely terrible that young women are regularly harassed while simply trying to work, and it's fantastic that Stop and Shop is taking steps to ensure safety by stationing an officer at the store and supporting workers when it unfortunately does happen. read more

Most people in the area shop here, and odds are you know someone who works here. I think in terms of selection, they have a very wide selection, and will have what you want and need. They can also special order items. The florist can be hit or miss depending on who is working at the time (they send over cashiers if no one is on) and overall, the store has a lot of features that are convenient. I give them four stars because I've always had good service. The employees are very hit or miss. Most are students or weird adults, and a lot of them are content to stare off into space. But there are some really dedicated employees who I appreciate. read more
