Custom service at at Ocean State Job Lot needs to be retrained. I bought a collapsible awning there last week, June 21 and returned it today for a refund, June 26th. The employee working at the costumer service register was very rude to me. I told the CS person that I was returning it because the awning was defective and had broken while I attempted to assemble it. The customer service person said it looked used? I told her it came that way. She argued with me and wasted my time arguing for 10 min while continuing to tell me that the awning looked used. I had the receipt and she resisted giving me my refund. Finally the manager of the store came over and suggested I get another awning. I said no, I would prefer a refund. The manager finally gave me my refund. Like the other Yelp reviewer said of Ocean State "Don't recommend giving money to this company. This place sucks. Management sucks. Employees suck. And the cheap damn products suck?" Ever since they reorganised the store several months ago and had a 40% off sale on everything $10 or less, I've been frequenting the store about every two weeks. Huge supply of Bobs Red Mill products, a whole wall of it, organised by number. Best deal on the parchment I use for baking - in rolls and precut sheets large enough for a cookie sheet. Household cleaning items - always a great selection, even some throwback stuff like Babbo! During spring, amazing deals on gardening supplies, hoses, coolers, beach stuff. I love this place and trust the quality of just about everything I've purchased there. Friendly help, too. They've definitely made a smart investment in kicking this place up a notch on organisation and customer service. Just got a $10 coupon for answering a brief email survey about their new website. I'm trying really hard not to start every Yelp review I write with "I'm from California." But, I'm from California, and we don't have Ocean State Job Lot. We have weird places that are vaguely like Ocean State Job Lot, like Big Lots, but I could never go there because Big Lots locations in the city of Los Angeles are kind of uniformly gross. And I don't mean in a snobby way, I mean it in a homeless guy sleeping next to the front door kind of way. So I went to Ocean State Job Lot for the first time, and I kinda flipped out. I feel like I could spend three hours in OSJL and walk out less than a bill lighter. And that's a seriously good thing, especially after you move from Los Angeles to Massachusetts with 40 boxes and basically no furniture. OSJL is amazing. Did you need some real maple syrup? They have that. It's only $14 for the big bottle. Slipcover for your giant sofa from Target? $29, instead of the $60 that Target would charge. Awesome dog bed? They have that. $15. Bag full of assorted non-stick spatulas, spoons and stirring things? $5. I know I'm a newb, but my advice for OSJL shopping is, go in with a vague idea of things you need. For example, rugs. I need rugs. I go in, I find sixty thousand different rugs, all of which were pretty inexpensive. Success! I also needed some large, cobalt blue salad bowls. So those weren't there. Too specific! This is the type of place you go to shop for bargains, in a general sense, not for a specific bargain. Got it? Good. read more

I love Ocean State Job Lot. If you've never been here, check it out. It's like some other big-box stores, but you never know just what you'll find. First off, they have a TON of great food. Surprisingly, a lot of it is premium, organic or natural. I'd rather buy my olive oil and natural peanut butter here than Whole Paycheck or Trader Joes (though I love the latter.) Check out their $1 spice area near the food. Also, they have inexpensive housewares (I wouldn't put them in the dishwasher, but I've bought some for my college apartment and they've worked great.) Need some disposable aluminum foil pans? They have them...for under a dollar. Compared to $3 at Wal-Mart. One gripe I do have is the wait time at the check out. On a busy Saturday afternoon, you're lucky if they have two registers open. And the store is always PACKED then. I avoid going during busy hours because I'll get stuck behind 7 or 8 people. However, they always have PLENTY of people working out on the floor. And unfortunately, the store does look pretty disorganized at times. Still, 3 stars for being the most fun store in Rockland...I never know what I'll find there. read more

You really have to come in here with an open mind and not necessarily searching for anything in particular. The store is frequently a mess as there is random shit all over the place. The staff isn't always so friendly , but if you mind your own business and search for deals, you wil be fine. Like other Yelpers have said, they have a ton of awesome food at a fraction of what you would pay in the general grocery stores. Also, if you are looking for kitchen staples such as foil, plastic wrap, aluminum trays, they have awesome deals!! Definitely worth a stop in! read more

I like Job lot. They always have good stuff and we usually leave with something we didn't think we would get but this not having changing rooms to try on clothes has to be dealt with. I bought a pair of shorts in my size that turned out to be at least 4 sizes too small. I couldn't find the receipt so I got the lowest sale price in the last 90 days which is french for I lost 3 bucks on the item that said it was the right size but didn't come close to fitting. So no more buying clothes from Job Lot until they address this issue. Instead of our usual 4 or 5 star rating we are dropping all our ratings for Job Lot to two stars until they address this problem. read more

I received your sales flyer email this morning and drove to your store in Randolph for on of the products listed. There were none in the sale aisle or canopy department so I went to customer service and was told "they are probably still on the truck, try back tomorrow". Why would you advertise something and you can't even supply if on the first day of the sale? The store is a mess, you can hardly get around. I am tempted to call the fire department, it seems like a safety issue to me. read more

We just came here to find some toys for our cats. We found cat toys much cheaper than any other nearby or online store. Like any other ocean lot things are not 100% organized and some of the items missing tags but they are so cheap. My wife liked one scurf which didn't have a price tag, so we asked at the counter and as the lady also didn't find the price she gave us the scurf for $1.99. I have seen similar scurf at Walmart for $8. Similarly the prices for other items are almost 30% to 40% cheaper than our nearby stores. I may come again and will suggest others others to come, maybe you will find a good deal. read more

Good selection of the most random thing's. Really nice staff on duth each time I go in. Found what I needed without an issue.

The Rockland location is always busy. Management is always visible making sure people get rung up quickly. The store has way too much merchandise for the size. They even carry potting soil in January. Birdseed is a fraction of what you'd pay at Walmart. Clothing is a fourth of what you would pay at kohls. The copper pans are half of what you pay at other stores. This location is always in stock on internet specials. Just a well run store compared to other ocean states. read more

Love this store. First off, the hours of operation are great...it opens as early as 8:00. Anytime I have called ahead to make sure they still have what I want in stock or to check on whether or not they carry an item I need, the staff are great and go off to look for it without complaint -really helpful as it saves me a 30 minute drive in case they don't have what I need. They have good seasonal items all the time and are kind to teachers in giving us an additional discount in August every year. I buy most of my teacher supplies here. Only complaint is the checkout, like another reviewer stated. Avoid weekends if you can to avoid long lines. And forget it if you write a check over $100, they have an unbelievable antiquated method of checking for bounced checks and you feel like a jerk holding up the long line as it is. They really need to improve their check acceptance method to something like Stop & Shop uses. read more
