I've been to Ocean Sushi a few times for mainly take out and dine-in once before. They are only currently take out. I recently got take-out and ordered the Kamikaze, Double Spicy Tuna and top 3 rolls (shrimp tempura maki, spicy tuna maki, salmon avocado maki). "So many rolls, so little time". We ordered these three items for takeout since we wanted to do a chill takeout night. Honestly, this was a little bit on the pricey end but it had great reviews so we wanted to give it a try. My fiancè really liked both sushi items, I loved the sushi burrito more. At a whopping $24, I was initially disappointed with the size but when I bit into it OMG it was sooo fresh and tasty. It had the thinnest layer of rice but a huge load of different fish, salmon, tuna, whitefish, yellowtail. $24 soo well spent! Since the pandemic, the restaurant has been to-go only, so it's best to call and place your order before you arrive so that it's ready for you. We love the lunch specials, which you can get most days of the week, and come with a good amount of food at a reasonable price (ex. maki and sides like miso soup, salad, egg roll, sweet potato tempura). The poke bowls are pricier, but great quality with a good amount and mix of fresh fish and ingredients. I really enjoy the poke sunset with salmon, tuna, mango, and avocado over rice with spicy mayo mmmm. Pine Banks Park is just across the street from the complex that Ocean Sushi is in, so on a nice day you can take your meal over there and enjoy it by the pond. I was nearby and got some carryout. The restaurant is still carryout only as of August 2021. Our order included a sashimi combo platter with tempura yams and miso soup and a spicy tuna roll. Some of the sashimi pieces should never have made it out the door. The texture, odor, and color indicated some of the sashimi was not fresh... not only was it not fresh, we questioned the safety of the sashimi and opt to not eat certain pieces. It's been a really long time since I've seen sashimi at this low of a quality anywhere.... to the point where safety becomes a topic instead of flavors and ambience of the restaurant. It comes with your choice of 3 makis, along with two appetizers (choice of miso soup, salad, vegetable tempura, or spring roll, and other options for a surcharge). The miso soup was quite bland. The salad, was also mediocre. I felt like the dressing was under seasoned and watery, unlike your usually gingery thicker dressing. The spring roll was a fried vegetable roll essentially. Between both of us we got the spicy tuna, unagi/avo, spicy salmon, yellowtail, shrimp tempura which was decent but not the freshest I've had. We also got the hot summer roll which we were both not fans of. It tasted like fishy salmon from a can wrapped in a maki roll. I would definitely not recommend it. It's official - I have found my new go-to for sushi in the area. We came upon Ocean Sushi on Yelp (thanks, guys!), and were not disappointed. They have a HUGE menu with more sushi options than I have seen in a long time (and some other options as well if you aren't into sushi). There is even an entire section of the menu dedicated to vegetable sushi. We ordered way more food than two people should consume in one sitting (judge me.), and every bit of it was awesome. Cute little self serve sushi restaurant! Upon entering we were instructed by signs to grab a menu, seat yourself and order at the register whenever ready. All the utensils and drinks are self serve. The host (who I'm assuming is the owner) was very nice as he would offer his assistance whenever we had a question. The layout of the restaurant is simple with 5-6 booths lining the walls. A quiet and mellow atmosphere with a lot of customers in and out (a lot of take out orders). Once ordered the food came in less than 10 minutes. Rolls ordered: - 3 maki lunch combo (tuna/mango+Salmon/avo+ red snapper/avo)+ Crab ragoon - Double spicy tuna maki - Scorpion Maki Pros: - Very hefty pieces of maki (they stuff a lot of fish in the rolls) - The salmon and tuna were very fresh - The mango was very fresh - Crab ragoon was crispy and creamy - Special rolls come with 10 pieces and regular rolls come in 8 pieces. Cons: - Not a fan of the red snapper (was on they chewier and fishier side) - The double spicy tuna maki was a bit too much spicy tuna (expected as it IS double) but when eaten the flavors did not mix well together. The sushi here is simply the best I've had in Boston. The quality of the fish is amazing. I've been eating the bowl (million dollar poke ) that consists of several types of sushi grade fish over rice with sauce and seasonings. It is easily one of the best goodies I've had here. Just tried Ocean Sushi for the first time and was very pleased. They have an awesome, huge menu to choose from. The sushi was delicious and fresh. I also got a miso soup which was great, and the crab rangoons and scallion pancakes were really delicious as well. Our waitress and everyone else working were fantastic. My one qualm is that they had a lot more on their online menu than they had in the restaurant. I was especially looking forward to trying a sushirito. I guess it's only a take out option. The fish is always fresh and the salmon practically melts in your mouth. I love their lunch specials. I religiously get 3 maki with 2 sides combo. It's to die for! For dinner I usually get the spicy maki combo and the Phoenix maki. Their monster makis are giant (10 pc) and SO GOOD. Chicken, mango, eel, baked salmon, boiled shrimp. My head is spinning from all the possibilities. My recommendation? Start with the spring rolls (perfectly crispy yet light), then try the volcano Maki(just trust me). The best part? It's in my backyard! (Or a 5 minute walk from oak grove station). I ordered for takeout via phone and my order was ready when I went to pick it up. I highly recommend taking advantage of their lunch specials (from 11-3) if you are able to. You get a lot of food for your money that way. The staff who handed me my order was friendly and I was in and out of the restaurant in less than 5 minutes. They have a table set up in the entrance to keep distancing since they are not doing dine in; a staff member will ask for your name and number to confirm your order. The facility is clean and employees are masked up. My order: Lunch special (3 maki rolls of choice and 2 sides): I got shrimp tempura maki, CA maki, and eel avocado maki. Each roll is 8 pieces. Lunch special sushi sashimi combo (2 pc chef choice sushi, 3 pc chef choice sashimi, 8 pc spicy tuna maki, and 2 sides)- $17; the sashimi pieces were thick and tasted fresh. Miso soup (side) Yam tempura (side) Wonton strip chips (side) Super Dragon Roll Spider Roll For under $70 I was able to get a lot of food (they also have a hot food menu and offer sushi burritos and poke bowls)! The quality here is really good for the price and everything tasted really fresh. The lunch specials are definitely the way to go to get the most bang for your buck.
