Nice selections for both "named" sushirritos as well for DIY. Liked that you can pick 2 proteins and 6 "add-one". My daughter did a DIY 2xsalmon w/ oshinko pickles, avocado. My son picked the Super Dragon, and my wife got the Veggie Dragon. I opted for a DIY with salmon, shrimp tempura, egg, tobiko, seaweed salad, crab, avocado, and oshinko with spicy mayo sauce. I have only ordered sushi for delivery from here so I can't really comment too much other than the platters I have ordered so far. I have ordered at least five sushi platters from Ocean Sushi for several birthday and party gathering. All of my guests commented how they love how fresh the sushi is. The only complaint I have had were from people who wanted more cooked sushi which made my eyes roll back a bit, or those that wished the cut of sashimi wasn't so thick. Again, can you picture my eyes rolling? I have ordered the 4 person platter and the 6 person platters. You get eights sides with your 4 person platter, 12 if you order the 6 person platter. The best part is you can pick your sides. This was a new feature which they did not have before. I recommend if you order for the first time, to use the 20% off first time order coupon. You save $20 or more on your platter which you can use to order more food or just save off the total price. After you use that one time promotion, there are others still great freebies. For your platter price, you can get one free specialty roll. I recommend the double spicy tuna. Definitely look at their other specials, rolls for $3.99 that changes weekly, free food for orders over certain amount, or just 5% off. The restaurant is located in Melrose but deliver as far as Revere but with a delivery charge. If you live within their delivery range, delivery is free. You just have to pay tip. You can tip on your card or with cash. I usually tip cash, $5-9 dollars depending on my order and the weather. I tip more for bad weather such as snow storm since the driver would have to travel a bit to get to my house, up a hill, semi wooded neighborhood with deers running about. same guy each time. I have had the same delivery person all five times I have ordered. Funny part is he would see me at three different houses so far and I am sure he's recognize me and furrier his eyebrows each time. Guess he will never know which is my primary residence. You can order online and pay with your credit card unlike some cash only establishments (yes there are still some businesses that does this) or you can call to place your order. My phone number came up one time when I ordered over the phone and the person answering already had my name, address and card information. A tad bit scary but really convenient. Overall, quality is always consistent. Sushi is fresh and rolls delicious. Only complaint is there is very limited parking therefore I have never ventured out to the restaurant itself. My sister in law had to double park once and run in to pick up the order. They were kind enough to help her bring the food out to her car. Great people and customer service over all. Good food, great service! I came here on a Sunday evening. Ordered the spicy double tuna roll, the donburi which we were able to get with half salmon and half eel, and beef yaki udon. The sushi was delicious, minimal use of rice and stuffed with tuna, definitely recommend. The salmon with the doburi were cut a little too thick for my liking but you get plenty of salmon. I wouldn't recommend the beef yaki udon. The noodles were flavorful but I can't get over how chewy the beef was. They have a maki special of the day for only 3.99. This place is seriously such a hidden gem. It was recommended by a friend for their lunch specials and what a great recommendation it was! It's a troop for me but it was so worthy. I don't know how much normal prices are but lunch is such a steal. $13 will get you 3 maki rolls (sweet yam tempura, Philadelphia, and spicy salmon) and two sides (miso soup and crab rangoon) - what! At first I thought the sides only came with the entrees specials but I was pleasantly surprised. Food came out decently quick, waiter was nice, and, most importantly, the fish was fresh and plenty. When they decided to change from full service to self service, I praise the change because it would allow the menu prices to stay the same. Unfortunately this wasn't the case because they have slowly increased the prices of their lunches without informing the customers. *Changing menu prices is not the same as informing your customers of the changes before they order and no restaurant serves lunch if they don't make money. Also, an item isn't free if you have to purchase something* Before April 2019 Sashimi lunch with sides 12 3 Maki lunch with sides 15 April 2019 Sashimi lunch with sides 13 3 Maki lunch with sides 16 October 2019 Sashimi lunch 13 (no sides), with the original sides 14 3 Maki lunch 16 (no sides), with the original sides 17 The leverage the restaurant have was its cost and quality but that can be hindered by their location. I drive 36 miles round trip to grab lunch but if the menu items increase $1 every 6 months it is open, I will start to look at places closer to where I work and live. Instead of raising the prices, they should have a loyalty program. Their free zone is not useful for any customer who spends less than $30 a visit. Start implementing a loyalty program where you provide $10 off a visit after they spend a total of $100 through multiple visits. read more

I saw all of the five star reviews for this restaurant and was excited to give this place a try. However, when my husband, toddler and I walked into the restaurant, out came someone who looked unwashed and smelled of weed. Eks, I thought to myself. The service is also REALLY slow, as in we had to wait about 30 minutes to get our food. Our server did warn us in advance so it's not like we didn't know what we were walking into. What was weird is that this restaurant was only packed with four tables. This is definitely a community restaurant, since it is linked to a day care, spa and apartments. Although slow, the servers are still nice - constantly re-filling out water, checking up on us, and they even gave us their wifi password. The food is fresh, which is key for a sushi restaurant. They also have a large selection of cooked and uncooked makis and organize their menu by these filters. This is really helpful for someone who is not familiar with what makes a maki cooked/uncooked. We got: - Avocado Salad: they give plenty of avocado, which I appreciate - Three Makis: Salmon Maki (large salmon chunks!), Melrose Maki (cooked, love the inclusion of mango), and Dragon Maki (comparable to other eel/avocado combos I've had before). Next time, I'll order from this restaurant versus dine-in. It also looks like they offer a lot more online versus in restaurant. I had no idea they had a corn dog style, sushirrito, etc until I took a peek at their online menu. Also, and this is a bit random, I am not a fan of the bathrooms. I wasn't going to review this place. I moved to this area while they were closed for renovation (or whatever it was...) and had heard rave reviews. Upon the reopening a friend that had recommended them warned me not to go there for dine in because the new concept was super wasteful with all the throw away dishes and it wasn't worth it to dine in if you had to do it all yourself just to get plasticware. I decided to order take out one night when my husband was out. I was really excited and stuck to easy classic rolls- nothing crazy. The spicy salmon roll was the only one that was good. The eel avocado roll tasted really off and the eel was barely present (but what was tasted fishy and slimy) the Phoenix roll was ok but the crab in it wasn't very good and the pieces were SO big (not in a good way) they were hard to eat. Based on this experience and the dining room changes I probably won't get sushi here again unfortunately. The responses from the owner on other reviews seem to speak volumes that he isn't really admitting the changes may not have been for the better. read more

We came here after a disaster at another North Shore sushi restaurant. Restaurant came up on yelp with 4.5 stars - so we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant is off Main Street tucked inside an community complex. It looks fairly new (found out latter on they opened 4 months ago). It was a one server show and the place was somewhat busy. It took a little while for her to get to our table. Once we placed our order - everything was pretty smooth sailing. Food came out quickly. We ordered the following - ala carte sashimi (uni, salmon and tobiko), chirashi set (sashimi served with rice) and million dollar maki. All were nicely presented and tasted pretty decent. The million dollar maki was definitely an item we didn't try anywhere else and was one of our fave. It's made with spicy three fish combo (yellowtail, salmon and tuna) in the inside topped with yellowtail, salmon, tuna and tobiko on the outside. One area of improvement is not to serve the tobiko and uni on top of a lemon. It totally offsets the palette. Definitely will stop back by when we're around the North Shore. read more

Finally a great local asian restaurant in Melrose! This place has shocked me with their quality of food and freshness since day 1 that I have been coming here. I am pleased with the vast majority of the sushi and appetizers I have ordered. My only disappointment was the chicken tempura maki. It was very distasteful and there was nothing "tempura" about it. I love tempura so I ordered the chicken and the mushroom tempura maki however the chicken in the sushi tasted dry on the inside, soggy on the outside - it was not what I had expected. Overall I rate this restaurant a 5/5 stars. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The food is a bit pricey but well worth the money for the quality of the food you receive! I never had to wait longer than 5 minutes for my food to arrive so the service is quick as well! I'm very excited that this restaurant opened in this neighborhood. read more

I came across this place after I saw my friend's snapchat and asked her where the place was, haha. I decided to give this place a try yesterday and I have to say, it's a hidden gem. Its located in a super small plaza off of Main Street. It was kind of hard to find parking at first because most of them are permit parking only, 15 min parking, and/or pick-up only, but we were able to find a small lot in the back of the restaurant that is available for retail parking. Just a note: you can enter the restaurant from the back door. My boyfriend and I thought it was an employee entrance so we walked around the block. We decided to order the hamachi kama, the sushi and sashimi combo, and the mango boston maki. The kamachi kama was really crispy and super juicy, but kind of lacking in flavor. The ponzu sauce wasnt the best. But as a whole, it was pretty good and would order it again. The sushi and sashimi combo came with 22 pieces - 9 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of a seafood maki, and 5 pieces of sushi. It was pretty filling for me, but not for my bf so thats why we ordered the mango boston maki. I was too full to eat it, but it looks pretty good. The highlights of this meal was definitely the sashimi. I am a huge fan of sashimi and was so happy when I saw how big each piece was! They are cut thicker than most sushi restaurants, but thin enough so that it melts in your mouth. It tasted so fresh and I couldnt get enough of it. I was so sad when I ate my last piece. The sushi was amazing as well. The piece of sashimi on top of the rice is again bigger than most sushi restaurants. The sashimi to rice ratio was perfect and enjoyed every bite. I really enjoyed the sushi rice as well, which is so important for really good sushi. In general, I am super happy and pleased with the place. Staff is super friendly and patient. The restaurant is quiet and has a good atmosphere. This is the closest sushi restaurant from my bfs house (super close to Oak Grove T station), so I will definitely frequent this restaurant a lot! Let's face it--Malden is a wasteland as far as sushi goes. Pickings are slim, and I can't wait for the day when a really good sushi place opens up. In the meantime, Ocean Sushi makes pretty decent serviceable sushi that hits the spot when you get that sushi itch. My husband and I have tried a bunch of maki rolls over the past year, and for the most part, we've been pretty happy with what we've received (minus the one time where he felt his salmon sushi wasn't the freshest). They also do a pretty good job of packing it up for takeout, and they singlehandedly got me through the worst parts of COVID quarantining at home. My biggest complaint about this place are the prices. Everything feels like it's $2-3 more than it should be. Two simple maki rolls shouldn't come out to $16, and yet they do here. Special rolls start at $15-16 which is a little ridiculous. The maki combos are probably the best deals here, but you're a lot more limited in the rolls you get to choose. Given the location though, this place gets the job done, and we have come back many times. Be forewarned, if you go on a Friday night, be prepared to wait outside amongst many other hungry sushi lovers for your order, as they get swamped. read more

Ahhhhhh sooooo good! Found this quaint sushi restaurant after viewing the holiday lights at the Stoneham Zoo. Since I'm adventurous and always like to try something new I selected the Volcanic Maki. Omg sheer delight. Shrimp tempura covered in a crab meat in a divine sauce highlighted with tempura flakes. Worth coming back for sure. You now have to order at a counter and they bring your food to the table. The second big change is they no longer serve alcohol. My wife and I used to enjoy some sake when we dined here. Another is that they no longer have any type of plates or silverware. Everything is served in plastic! Miso soup is served in a plastic container. Sushi rolls are served in plastic cartons. They even give everyone single-use plastic utensils. It truly feels like you're eating at a mall food court. And then the absolute worst, is now that you bus your own table, they force you to throw all of this plastic out as they do not offer recycle bins or reuse any of it. Incredibly wasteful and irresponsible as a local business. This place was our go to sushi restaurant north of Boston. Now, it is nothing other than a take-out joint, and unless something changes, we won't be going back. read more

This place is the best. It's not just because I live next door. They truly have fantastic service, extremely clean environment and great food. They make an extra effort to make sure you're a happy customer and seem proud of their restaurant and motivated to keep it a great place to eat. The soup and salad are a great example of their food quality. The soup is perfectly balanced, not too salty, and has great enoki mushrooms. The salad is always crisp with a mix of cherry tomatoes and carrots with really good dressing. I've had a large variety of their entrees, including the tempura dish, salmon/beef teriyaki, the chef's daily special sashimi platter, etc. I've always been very pleased with the meal and love to visit knowing that whatever I order will be very good. I think what really makes this a five-star place is also the value for the lunch specials. The best sushi in Melrose, Malden, Wakefield and Saugus! Having been in NYC and Japan and tried Michelin Caliber Japanese restaurants, Ocean Sushi, for the local area, does the job. Obviously, I don't expect the same caliber and it's unfair to expect the same as Michelin level but for your sushi cravings, I think Ocean Sushi is great. My go to are the salmon and tuna sashimi, million dollar roll and rainbow roll. Great service - we always get take out and never had any issues. read more

Felt that the nigiri was a good value (decent size and quality) while the maki price was normal or high (vegetarian options should have been less money). Scallion pancakes were good. All in all we enjoyed our food. We didn't try any special rice options since we prefer traditional sushi. This wasn't my favorite sushi restaurant ever (reviews had me hoping for that), that still goes to Junji in Marblehead without question, but given that the other local sushi restaurants are not very good, this place was definitely worth coming back to.
