Another great restaurant find in the Coachella Valley, this time in Palm Desert. We discovered Oceana Restaurant on the Greater Palm Springs Restaurant Week website -- the Pulpo Chicharrones caught our eye -- so we decided to check it out. Thank goodness we did. Our group started out with the above mentioned Pulpo Chicharrones. Crispy Octopus bites served with fresh pico de gallo, guacamole, and flour tortilla chips. The octopus had a charred crispy exterior that gave way to a buttery-tender interior. None of the rubbery texture that so often turns people off. For entrees, we selected the Whole Fried Huachinango (Red Snapper), 7 Oceanas (think "Spanish Chioppino"), and Pan Seared Halibut which was the special of the day. The halibut special featured a very generous pan seared filet on a bed of white wine risotto with a sesame seed veloute and asparagus. The 7 Oceanas consisted of perfectly cooked octopus, white fish, clams, mussels, shrimp, salmon, and scallop in a rich broth with tomato, onion, garlic, smoked paprika, oregano, and guajillo peppers. Served with housemade telera bread sticks to sop up the amazing broth. The snapper was deep fried to perfection leaving the skin super crispy and fleah moist and flaky. Drizzled with an adobo sauce and served with grilled sliced lemons, chayote squash and baby potatoes. Our only complaint was the snapper was not true red snapper as advertised, but rather porgy (we think). Red snapper is one of the most substituted fish and very few people in the world could tell them apart. My partner Ernie is a connoisseur, and he can. The dish was still excellent, we just wish it wasn't advertised as Huachinango. This hidden gem delivered fresh seafood, tasty cocktails with a nod to tequila and mezcal drinks crafted by owner Marco Castellanos, and friendly attentive service from Gina.

Simply didn't meet expectations. Great reviews and online photos proved a bit deceptive as the place just doesn't deliver in vibe. Tried to seat us at a tiny table, but we were able to snag a larger table, so that was good. Drinks were just okay. They have some fun combinations and offered standards, but nothing was special. We ordered a couple of apps and decided to order entrées later - that was a great call! Apps were huge, but both were ridiculously salty. I'm guessing it was the ponzu?? Super disappointing, and we lost our appetites after that. Service was effective, but not overly welcoming or engaging. I certainly understand why some people like this place, but it was a complete miss for us.

We ordered only two mains--Red snapper and half octopus Octopus is so flavourful, tender and moist. Even better than the ones we had in Mexico. Highly recommend. Red snapper is somewhat dry due to over frying, skin is kinda hard and crunchy not crispy light! Meat is still ok--I've had much better ones in Mexico. Relaxing ambience, good service, full bottle of tap water placed on each table :-)

Lovely family dinner. Great dinner- fresh seafood. We tried Sea bass and risotto, red snapper (huachinango), filet mignon. Everything was perfectly cooked. Our appetizers were fresh oysters and a chefs special seafood spinach dip.

Great experience. Tonight was our first visit to Oceana. It was a Thursday night and we had a reservation for 2 people at 7 pm. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to open up. Not bad at all as they were busy. Water with lemon was brought to the table right away, along with a large bottle of cold water to refill our glasses as needed. Tomas, our server arrived and took our drink order. We ordered a bottle of Riesling. Later, after we'd studied the menu, Tomas returned and took our order. We shared the following: - Complimentary cold vegetable dish - Garlic Bread - Surf and Turf special The complimentary vegetable dish is a nice touch. Especially if you like their choices, which I did. My wife wasn't a fan though. Tonight, ours had the following: - Jicama sticks - Radish - Cucumber They had a bit of seasoning sprinkled on them. I like it! Dinner was served shortly thereafter, split as we requested. The Surf was Scallop and the Turf was a Beef Filet. Both were very good and the steak was done medium-rare as requested. A pan sauce wa served under the steak and around the plate. It was tasty. Mashed potato was served. It was fine - nothing special. Several Asparagus spears were served and they were perfectly cooked. Sousvide or steamed perhaps. Some Cherry Tomato halves were served next to the Asparagus. We both loved it all. The Garlic bread was quite different and very good. It was sort of an oval shaped flat bread that had been slit in halve and covered in oil, garlic and spices, than put back together, then sliced into 1" wide slices and served warm. Very good. Tomas and the kitchen all did great. We'd go back to Oceana and can recommend it to others.

It's a great restaurant to have date night! We celebrated a birthday here and the dishes were so delicious. We tried: - Roasted Beet Salad - Calamari Milanese - Chipotle Shrimp - Salmon Bruschetta - Tequila Shrimp - Banana Foster Cheesecake - Coconut Flan

Day two of my wife's birthday celebration, the group had an hankering for some seafood and decided to check a spot we never heard of, but the reviews spoke highly of. Nestle in an outdoor shopping complex, Oceana is a hidden gem and I'm glad we discovered it. Once we walked in it was if we were transported to a high-end restaurant where the staff was attentive, everyone is dressed to impress and we are all enjoying some of the best seafood we've had. Everything was fresh, hot and oh so delicious. The drinks packed a punch and pared wonderfully with the food. The staff even made the experience extra special singing happy birthday to my wife and provided a delectable dessert to be enjoyed. Definitely my go to spot in Palms Spring for seafood. Not sure another spot could dethrone this local establishment.

Raised pork over mashed potatoes. Chilean Seabass over risotto and asparagus.

All I can say is "wow"! This place is amazing. My husband ordered the pork braised over mashed potatoes . It looked amazing. I got the Chilean Seabass served over risotto. I had a couple of espresso martinis. Everything was really really good and I can't wait to go back here. The service was excellent, and the ambience was very nice.

The food here is no joke! Every dish is amazing! Their cocktails are awesome too! They have shrimp many different ways, but the chipotle was my favorite! The sauce, the rice and especially the grilled Mexican squash "chayote" was eye opening! The rib eye tacos were . Our waitress Melisa was awesome too and the manager was cool! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Stood here for dinner during a visit to Palm Desert. I ordered the Lobster Nachos, Drunken Shrimp, and Red Snapper. All were delicious! The lobster nachos were flavorful and they gave more chips when we ran out but still had guac. The red snapper is huge and the fish is very fresh. The drunken shrimp was the most unique in my opinion are the flavors were sweet and salty. Everything was packed with flavor and I would definitely stop by again.

We got seated easily at this small local seafood restaurant near Palm Desert. Jamie was our waiter and greeted us warmly and showed us to our table. I ordered the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc because I like the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and we munched on the jicama and cucumber appetizer while we read the menu . The ambience is that of a small local restaurant and the menu is a tropical take on mostly Mexican food with an emphasis on seafood. I ordered the drunken shrimp which came with rice and vegetables, and my husband ordered the salmon bruschetta which was grilled salmon on rice covered with chopped tomatoes. I slipped my Sauvignon Blanc and the food orders came out quickly. The drunken shrimp was very tropical in flavor with grilled pineapple and coconut dominating the sweet sauce. My husband salmon was plain, but the bruschetta gave it a little bit of herbal flavor. The highlight of the meal was the garlic bread, which was a real ode to garlic. The bread has like a pita bread that have been stuffed with garlic and then grilled and sliced so you got a full on garlic experience. This is a great restaurant for a casual meal. It is very crowded on weekend so I would call ahead for a reservation.

    Chilean sea bass

Visited with the fam on Valentine's Day. Octopus chicharrones for an appetizer is a must have! Guacamole was fantastic!!! Had the special which was Chilean sea bass its was great except for the champagne sauce, would have been so much better without that. My dad has the red snapper which was fried whole. He loved it. We also had the ribeye which for a seafood restaurant, the ribeye was great and came topped with chimichurri. I must rave about the Paloma negra such a tasty drink. Lots of parking because it's located in a shopping center. They had good business, would recommend a reservation for the weekend.

This location is part of a strip mall with plenty of parking out in the lot. There's a pretty massive patio and outside bar area with seating which wasn't utilize as it was majorly hot outside. They did have mister to believe. We of course sat inside. When we walked in, there was no one dining as the only other patron had just finished and walked out. That in-between lunch time. It was one of those things, do we stay or do we leave.... The waitress that was working that afternoon, Michelle was the sweetest. So welcoming and friendly which is alway a good sign. As it was our first time here, she gave us a thoughtful breakdown of everything. Good customer service if I do say so. Menu, if you want seafood, this is your place. They had specials that go on all day with a good list of about 8 or so items to choose from. Lunch specials were also offered and then you have the main menu. Alcohol was also on the list. There's also a big menu along the board if you were waiting in line to order. Everything is done at the counter and food will be brought out to you when ready. They also have a soda station for your helping and the condiments are set aside there too. Menu did have a good selections of items. But limited on their pastas, which probably a given as it's a seafood place. They only had linguine and clams. We went with an order of the 3 fish and chips from the all day menu. That came with thick cut seasoned fries which were delicious and Cole slaws. The all day specials come with two sides I believe. Also an order of the ceviche which was from the starter menu. Fish was quite tasty and lightly battered which was great. Tasty and flakey which the battered was great. Not overly covered where it basically defeated the purpose but this place was nice. Also tater sauce was also accompanied. The ceviche was decent and came with tortilla chips. Nice decent size cup with avocado chunks on top but it wasn't that juicy. Wasn't that much juice, maybe it was just scooped and drained when served. It was decent. Also an extra side of the fries which were great. Thick cut and seasoned. The service was great and our waitress Michelle working that afternoon was a major doll. The sweetest and friendliest and so welcoming. The restaurant is full service minus the ordering. You order at the counter but your food will be brought to your table. It did pick up during our meal but we also noticed that it was a major go to for takeout. Everything was fresh and didn't take long to come out. There's also the downtown location that we need to try out next.
