I don't know why this campground has such negative reviews. This is such a great little campground that is walking distance to the ocean and the dunes where you can have bonfires, go ATVing, or just go walk on the beach to catch the sunset. We enjoyed an evening here, playing games having a bonfire and then walking to the beach to watch the sunset. They have a good amount of RV spots, and can fit 40ft rigs. They also have ample bathrooms and showers available! Great campground! read more

This was my first time camping, and we chose to book a county-ran campground at Oceano. I wish I had done my research a bit more and booked a larger site, but I didn't realize that our site was the smallest. The campground comes with a picnic table, fire pit, water hook up, and electricity outlets. There's also a restroom that's somewhat maintained, for showers and toilet use. Showers are $1 for 3 minutes, but there are no coin exchange machines, so be sure to bring your own quarters. Also note, that showers are only operating from 10am-6pm. It gets pretty loud at night, with tons of frogs and birds calling, but hey, that's nature! If you're looking to do tent camping, this probably isn't the best spot. Most people around us were all RV camping, and we definitely felt very out of place. Probably wouldn't do this spot again, but it's close enough to a lot of shops in case you forget something and need to go out. If we had more time, we'd probably explore the area a little more, but the campsite itself was okay. read more

This place is definitely not what we are looking for in an rv spot, but it might be your thing. Somebody is leaving the positive reviews, but you need to be in to this kinda thing or you will hate it. Mostly all travel trailers with bubbling heaters all night. Dogs everywhere barking all the time, ATVs at every campsite, power tools running all day, trash cans over flowing, pay showers with tokens only, pay dump, loud and noisy neighbors. Yuck. read more

This was a great choice for my family. Well prized we were able to find availability, we booked about a month ahead of time in mid September. Facilities were cleaned every day. The campground itself was very clean. We really enjoyed the walkway path along the riverbank as well as, the path over the sand dooms to the beach. A lot of area to explore if you have a little one like myself. I would definitely recommend this camping spot if you are OK with no electricity. read more

I love the location of this campground. Just less than 5 minute drive to the beach. However, it's so small that my daughter and her cousin cannot ride around. Also, the camp is just across from a park but there were suspicious people there. I didn't trust our kids to ride around by themselves without a problem, so they did not get to ride their bikes as they wanted to. This campground is by the Airport so you'll hear lots of airplane noises. The airplanes take-off at low altitude directly over the campground. I'm not sure if I can see myself coming back here, but never say never. Let's wait and see. read more

We normally camp at Northbeach campground down the street. We camped here as it was open for the days we wanted. First of all, beach access is very far to walk but did make it through one area where it said no vehicles beyond this road.. the other beach access was up and down steep sand hills. Crazy to expect people to walk that route. The rangers are up and down the campground this past weekend driving over 25mph with the posted 10mph signs. I heard another camper stop and yell at the rangers because his grandkids were riding their bikes and he didn't want them to get ran over. On top of that, they are up early at 7a with street sweepers, large commercial tractors going in and out of the camping area. We had no time to sleep in and relax. read more

The camp host is anything but helpful very rude and disrespectful the camp ground and Park rangers are nice

This is a party campground and not safe. Motorcycles rode through, cars came through and homeless live in the park and on the streets just outside the campground. The police were called several times while we camped there for incidents in the bathroom from homeless people showing up and roaming the camp. While the girls in the site across from us were gone a man drove up and checked out their things. We let him know we were watching him so he left. It is a 50 amp site park and yet they allow tents and big parties of people. We were asked to move from our reserved site because the lady made a mistake at the county office. I wanted to help her out and she assured me it was the same type site, but we were given a site in full sun in the middle of the park and by the playground, rather than the site against the fence we reserved. The site we originally reserved sat empty after the first night. They should have asked us to sit in a site for one night for their mistake and then given me the site I reserved against the fence. A huge family with 8 tents came in and camped right in front of us and though they were respectful when I asked them to turn it down, they wanted to play music and have a nice party. It was way more people than most rv parks allow. Grounds are not mowed. People park in the street so it is very hard to drive through the campground with your trailer. The camp host is supposed to be there to answer questions and greet people, but they were never there and the park was un-manned. I never saw them other than them coming and going when they went inside their trailer and kept a rope on the stairs so no one could approach. Many people tried to go to the camp host trailer with no luck. We were very unhappy and felt very unsafe. read more

Keep your eye on your Kids with all the homeless and drunks Would not recommend this campground. The restrooms are used by the areas homeless population on a daily basis. Plus the showers are pay showers so people that are camping in the sand dunes on the beach come in to use the showers all day long. High amount of foot traffic in and around the entire campground. Never felt comfortable. My kids were bullied by older kids when they tried to play on the playground. There is a bridge next to the campground that had it's daily bridge residents talking to themselves. Police activity is constant in and around the campground. Would never return to this area again. Very disappointed. We camped here in a Travel Trailer. The old lady Host is not very nice , and lets her dumb dog run about the park, no Leash . read more

I was initially headed to Monterey, but was too tired to drive up north for another 3-ish hours and decided to make a stop at a campground near Pismo Beach. I just pulled up into an empty space like it was my own spot, woke up the next morning, paid for it at the Coastal Dunes RV Park office and left. No reservations needed. Shower is available for just quarters. Clean toilets, too. The only gripe is that the campground is too close to a main road and the bridge makes a horrible clunking noise whenever cars (especially F350s towing dirtbikes or loud dune buggies) drive on it. read more

Woke up to blaring music at 7:45 am. Rowdy crowd, rude neighbors, creepy folks I would say. Also - I should mention there is a bridge located at the entrance of the campsite that is incredibly loud if your nearby the front of the park. Now, I know picking this camp site was picking one "within the means of civilization" but hearing the bridge all throughout the night was sort of horrible. Granted - we were in a tent. This campground made me kind of feel like I put a tent in the middle of a parking lot or on the side of the road next to transients. AKA: Like I was borderline homeless. I suppose my boyfriend and I are bit more prima-donna than we both had expected. OR we were comparing Oceano to our stay at Morro Bay State Park which needless to say, is like comparing Fresh Sushi to Long John Silvers. read more

While looking for a new place to camp with my family I found this place online. Tried finding reviews for it and they seemed descent. BUT, this campsite was not. My husband and I never felt safe to leave even dish soap outside over night or when we left. We always packed up everything. We had a reservation for 4 nights and 5 days. By the end of the second day we wanted to move on out of there. We were woken up at 3 in the morning by a blaring train! Starting at 6:30 am there will be huge tractors coming by the middle of the campground, they don't stop or slow down and it's a constant thing. The bathrooms were never cleaned and often ran out of toiled paper. The showers were moldy and dirty, I felt dirtier being inside them. And to top it off you need to pay with tokens for a shower. 50 cents buys you 1 token for 3 minutes. Except the machine kept eating up our tokens! Although there are quiet hours posted, nobody implements them so you have loud people at all hours. I would not recommend this place and if I ever find myself in Pismo again, I will look elsewhere to stay. read more

My husband and I have camped here in our travel trailer many, many times. We stay here 2-3 times a year. The campground is very small, which is one of the reasons we like it. There are full hookups: electric, water and septic. A small playground is at the center of the campground. You will not be crowded in most of the spaces here, unlike the private parks in the area, but you will not have the amenities here either. The bathrooms are typical public park issue and you will need quarters for the showers. That said, we stay in a self contained trailer and never use the campground bathrooms or showers. There is no pool, wifi or cable hookups. There are hosts here, but in all the years we have stayed here we have never seen them. A pretty good gig if you can get it I guess. The small airpark is just behind the campground and the weekends there are many small airplanes taking off and landing. A community park is across the street and there are homeless people who spend their days there but we have never had an issue. Nothing has ever been stolen from our site and we leave our stove, chairs and portable firepit out overnight. As far as noise, this campground has never been any louder than any other campground I have stayed in. Most of the time it is very quiet. Only 2 "units" are allowed to park in any one site, 1 trailer with 1 tow vehicle, 1 motorhome with 1 dinghy, or 2 cars. You get the idea. If you stay here with realistic expectations, I think you'll enjoy it as we do. read more
