Handled an oil change and new filter and Mario was very kind,knowledgeable and helpful with the maintenance and service!

I've come here a couple of times to have my Ford F-150 truck repaired, once for brakes and once for a bad ignition coil. Both times, Mac suggested other maintenance repairs that I "should" get done - but I love that there was never any pressure to do them. It was completely up to me and I didn't feel bad for not choosing to do the other procedures. Both times I felt I was given an honest quote and never felt misled in any way. My car needed a power brake booster replaced on my CRV. I had gone to a few different places some were over the top expensive or they weren't able to get the part for 7 - 10 days. I'm a single parent and have two jobs, there's no way I can be that long without my car. Bruce was able to get the part in two days and once it arrived they went straight to work. If zero stars was possible I'd give zero. Do not waste your time or money. Had recently taken my suv in, and have been going to them for years. This time I experience a problem. Had my transmission shift cable replaced, that's not the issue. The issue was the master technician who was the one who "fixed" the car issue, didn't do it correctly. Upon leaving the shop, shifting into gears was rough, and then once I arrived to where I park, I put my car in reverse. Reverse didn't work , so I turned around and went to the shop. Along the way back my car wouldn't get up to speed. By up to speed I mean the speed limit, it was sluggish. Arrived at the shop, master tech was surprised to see me and upon explaining my issue he passed me off to someone else because he didn't have time to fix his mistake. He himself told me , he didn't test the the part to make sure it worked. His tech tried to sell me a transmission flush and say that'll fix the problem. All they had to do was adjusting, it has adjusting clips. On top of that when I first came in to pick the car up the master tech had a cocky snarky attitude. I am using my wife's Yelp account because I don't get online to rate businesses very often at all, but after reading the 10 reviews that Oceanside Automotive (OA) received, I had to write my own. 2-Stars from Sunny S. because you called around and other shops had other advice to try and lure you over to them, c'mon. 3-Stars from Cheeky R. for having to return because of minor mistakes, understandable. 1-Star from Toni-B because you walked into a busy auto shop and expected to be served right there and then...you should remove your review. Any reliable and trustworthy shop is usually always busy and MOST people know before bringing their car in they should call first. 1-Star from Jamie M...your story is very hard to believe. I have been taking my two Civics here for about three years now and Mac (owner) has done nothing but great quality work to both my cars. I have had brake jobs, A/C fixes, basic issues like my alarm and automatic windows, routine maintenance including oil changes and transmission/coolant flushes, and most recently an expensive transmission/clutch and radiator job. Both cars are driving perfectly as of now and it should definitely be expected. OA is not the cheapest place to get your car fixed, but Mac has been in the business for 35 years and is a very trustworthy business owner who's first priority is to serve his customers, not make a profit. I personally trust his judgment and if you are looking for an auto repair shop you can trust to fix your car the right way instead of quoting you the cheapest estimate around, OA is the place. Well my experience has been great Ron has taken care of me several times I've had tires done oil changes brake work all kinds of things on several vehicles BMWs Hummer's Chevy trucks Alero you name it we've had stuff done and they have been upfront with us and what needed to be done now or what could wait if you're on a budget and you just can't afford to do everything at one time don't hesitate to talk to them and let them know That you need to break up things that you might have to have done on your vehicle and they will tell you what is the most important they have never put us in jeopardy and They have always been upfront I highly recommend them thank you ...Misty G read more

Had an emergency with our car at about 4 pm on a Saturday. They could have easily told us they would get to it on Monday but they took the time and got us back on the road quickly. Unfortunately, Mac is gone, and so is the trust I had in the business. My husband and I have done all of our car maintenance here -- with Mac --for about four years (since we moved to Oside). Recently I went in for a routine oil change - they called be back to upsell and when I didn't bite, I got attitude. They wanted $200 for a service that wasn't even in my car's maintenance schedule; and many voices online say that particular service on my particular car is a scam. Makes sense. Won't be going back here again. My husband and I just compared the cost of oil changes before and after Mac... turns out they now charge an EXTRA $50+ fee with an oil change -- for stuff that used to be FREE in the Mac days. I'm running, not walking, away from this place. No longer reputable. read more

We moved to San Diego this fall from Boston and so far I have used these guys for both mine and my husband's vehicles for oil changes, smogging, 90 K service (my car), 150K service transmission flush (my husband's truck) and more. I REALLY appreciate how they take the time to explain everything to me and work to resolve any issues that come up. Recently, I was worried about my tire pressure indicator not working correctly so I stopped by and they fixed it immediately and told me what had likely happened was that I was putting far too much air in the tires than I was supposed to because I was going off the recommendation for those tires independent of the effect that my specific vehicle had on that standard recommendation) I feel good knowing there are people so close to where we live that I trust for vehicle issues. Went in and left all in 2 minutes!!! It was 345 and needed a smog test... Came in and the guy said O we are busy fixing a car that has been long over due so we cant do any other services right now. My spouse recently just went for a routine check up sometime in the afternoon. When she arrived she was immediately "cat-called" by three employees including the manager/lead of that particular shift. They proceeded to refer to my spouse as "baby girl" and "sweet heart" numerous times after being politely asked to stop. They proceeded to make my spouse uncomfortable by talking about his/her body. These unwanted advancements by the employees forced my spouse to leave the shop while they were maintaining our car. They proceeded to try and talk my spouse into staying and not leaving the shop after all three employees were caught staring and clearly talking/laughing while pointing towards my spouse. Once the car was ready, we had received the call for pick up where the employee took the opportunity to use the call and continued to make unwanted advancements saying that they will take the time to either visit our personal home to work on the car at no extra charge or to just simply "visit and hang out". We will obviously never come back however the sole reason why i am writing this review is to be courteous for future individuals to be weary about the employees as well as the management. Do not let your spouse go alone. read more

I hate looking for a new mechanic, as I moved I had to. Bang on the owner was very informative and helpful. Service was efficient and they did more than they had to. Owner matched a competitors coupon for service. Staff was very attentive and made me feel like I hit the jackpot finding them. Sending recomendations out to all my neighbors. Being a chick, most places try to "invent" services that need to be done. Especially as I drive a '95 pathfinder. They checked all and reported everything was excellent. read more

I came here after finding this place on Yelp and reading the reviews. I am very satisfied with the quality of service and treatment I received. Mac treated me like a person, not a customer. We chit chatted for a bit while one of his technicians worked on my car. I didn't feel taken advantage of nor did I feel he was trying to upsale me on any other services. I came in with a simple wear and tear issue, but they came back with a bloated estimate of services. I tried to get them to do only the absolute necessary work. They made the extra service sound so dire, I went along with it. After researching by calling a few dealer's service centers, both dealers said I could live without the expensive service that was suggested. Your better off shopping around. We recently relocated to Oceanside and needed smog tests for our 2 vehicles. Mac was extremely friendly, and the service was fast and affordable. I have yet to return for any other services but will give them a try. Can't believe toni b. here gave this shop 1 star without actually having a service provided, which unfairly drags down their rating (Yelp should filter out this review). I respect them for being honest and giving priority to the customers that had already dropped off their cars for service...I wouldn't want them delaying my repairs for an extra day just to do a smog test for someone arriving at 4pm without an appointment. read more

My AC went out in my car about 6-8 months ago, and I delayed getting it fixed because I was worried about the astronomical costs I was sure I would acquire to fix it. I finally caved in one day and decided to get an estimate at Oceanside Automotive since they are so close to my home. From the moment I walked in I felt like I was being treated like family, not only with fairness but with respect as well. Their customer service is outstanding! I instantly felt comfortable and I knew they would not rip me off, like I have been SO many other times at different auto shops. Within a few hours they fixed my AC as well as a headlight issue I was having, all for a very fair price. First off, Mac and his crew are awesome people. Second, they do amazing work. Third, they do quality work for a fair price. With those things out of the way I should say that Mac is extremely knowledgeable about cars, trucks and anything else he repairs. I have had all my vehicles work on at his shop, from brakes, smog, ignition work and he has nailed the problem the first time, every time. His pricing estimates are usually in point, unless he finds another issue but he calls you and makes you aware of said issue before just charging you. I would be very cautious about coming here again for any kind of work. I took my car in for an oil change and AC recharge, and they found several other problems and told me I would need a new radiator, and also that they would have to drop my engine. The entire quote for everything was about $2400. I told them I just wanted the original AC servicing ($120) and oil change ($80). Afterwards, my AC still didn't work, so I took it to the dealer to be safe, and my quote there was $1900 for all work (including new tires and another AC servicing) , and they also discovered that my problem was actually just a hose, not the entire radiator, and they did not have to drop the engine for any of the other repairs, either. And when the dealer fixed it, the AC actually worked. Oceanside Automotive seemed pretty sleazy overall, and I will definitely never go back to them. Took all my vehicles here for over 10 years. Was alway treated with respect and had perfect service at a fair price SINCE MAC HAS LEFT they act like it is a problem to talk to me and all three times I brought my vehicles in they called to tell me their estimate was incorrect and had to charge me more. Example I get my brakes done and tell them my rotors need to be replace. They say okay and give me a quote. Then they call back and say they need $400 plus labor to replace the rotor brakes. I told them I asked for that in the quote. They said they only estimated for the brakes not rotors. Same with an oil change I requested they flush and use an additive. They call back and say it will be extra. I've always paid the same and the price hasn't changed but they charged me $40 more. They also broke my hood latch that was obviously their fault and didn't say anything. In 10 years my estimated cost was always spot on. When I voiced my concern and that I maybe looking for a new mechanic the guy at the counter told me "bob" owns all the auto shops and tire stores in Oceanside and Vista so the service and prices will be the same. He then went on a 15 minute rant on how Mac was horrible and not a good mechanic. Seriously? I will never go back. read more

The new management have absolutely no clue what they are doing and over charge for everything.
