This place is near where I work. I'd heard that there are a number of good Jamaican places near work. I felt like jerk chicken and tried it here. The place is small. It's in a strip mall. But there is ample parking. Inside it's organized simply. But it's clean and there are no issues. There are Jamaican photos and images all over the place, which is cool. I ordered the jerk chicken lunch meal with plantains, rice and "salad". The salad was cooked cabbage. The rice was the traditional rice with beans, sometimes called moros. I got the sauce on the chicken because i like spicy jerk chicken. the chicken didn't seem to be grilled. But it was moist, flavorful, and tasted good. the rice/beans combo was good. The plantains were nice. The "salad" lacked flavor, and there were no seasonings or sauces at the table to make it better. A pleasant young woman took my order and brought it to my table. I tipped her the bill, as would be my custom. the service was fine. i wish i would have had more sauce and seasoning options. But there were not. The jerk chicken is good here. i'd come here again.

When I walked in I was greeted with a warm smile that only a mother and grandmother can give. The owner is so friendly and kind. The restaurant is very clean and cool. I asked if the brown stew chicken was spicy because although my mouth loves spice my stomach does not. She assured me that it was not so that's what I got. Needless to say I was not disappointed with anything on my plate. The chicken and cabbage were tender, rice soft and fluffy, we started talking about the availability of Jamaican food in CT and told her I cook my own oxtails. Of course she said hers were better and brought me some out to sample. That was really kind of her and they were delicious and tender. There was so much food on my plate I didn't think I could eat it all but I cleaned the plate. I told her that I would back at least two more times before the end of my trip.

They say, "You are what you eat"... does that mean I'm a jerk or a chicken? Put those words together and you got a delicious Jamaican dish. I used to come here 7 years ago and they had the best jerk chicken. Sad to say, but I think the recipe changed from back then. It was good but not great. The dish that did get better was the oxtail. The meat was Fall off the bone and it had a delicious flavor. The ladies that work here were real nice and sweet. I will have to come back to try their other dishes.

Yum!!!!! My grandson and I weee looking for a place to have lunch. He had a taste for Caribbean food. I wanted to try something new and found Ocho Rios. The woman behind the counter was extremely patient with us as we figured out what we wanted. I was also placing an additional order to take away to my daughter. My teenager grandson was in search of oxtails. They only served it from their dinner menu which supplied different sides. He had macaroni and cheese, yams, and rice and peas. I had brown stew, chicken with plantain and order of cabbage. My daughter's order was jerk chicken with cabbage, plantain, rice, and peas. My grandson described his food as fire. My daughter said it was the best jerk chicken she's had. I concur, my food was amazing. In fact, it was so good I forgot to take a picture. Lol. Happy my grandson did. I will definitely be going back. No

Oxtail plate: bones had too much fat on them so it's not a good buy. Seasoned great but not enough meat.

Average Jamaican food. Prices are slightly higher but everything was just okay. There's no calling in your order, the phone has a busy tone. Cabbage was nice and buttery but everything was just okay. The oxtails didn't have a lot of flavor and the jerk chicken was spicy and dry. The lady was nice, there was a man in there watching a movie who was completely unhelpful. I wouldn't come back here.

Came here for dinner this week, on our way to see Rosalía at the Inglewood Forum. Found it on Yelp…read more(thanks Yelp!). This area is not familiar to us at all, and we don't normally eat (for us) exotic cuisine. But, we were in the mood to try something new, so we stopped here. It's a colorful, cheerful little place. I think there are only like 4 tables. Apparently, it is mostly takeout. This became evident when our food was "served". We ordered a large two-meat plate and two large fried chicken plates. The two meats were "brown stew chicken" and curry goat. The meat is served in thick savory gravy/sauce. The "plates" are served with rice and fried plantains. The brown stew chicken was good. The curry goat was really good. Here's where the experience really veered sharply from our normal dining experience. The "plates" were served in takeout fold-over boxes with plastic forks. The meat itself was pretty much all adhered to bones. It was tender and delicious, but eating with our hands doesn't come naturally. So, I asked for a knife, and the sweet woman who takes the orders looked at me and said they don't have knives, and that we "just have to dig down into it". Indeed. She did give me a second plastic fork though, which I used. Nice workers. Authentic food. Huge portions. New experience which we all enjoyed.

After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.

We didn't know what to expect as it was our first time trying Jamaican food. But boy let me tell you- we were blown away! We ordered 4 entrees to share- Jerk chicken, oxtails, Brown stew and the fried chicken. The portions for Large size were indeed large and all came with rice and beans cooked together, and a fresh medley of sautéed vegetables. My first bite was the rice and I was already in love- so flavorful that I could've just eaten that alone and been happy. All of the dishes were packed with flavor, and the oxtail was melting off the bone tender and oh so yummy! I think this was my top favorite, but the Brown Stew chicken was also super tender and delicious. The Jerk chicken had a nice smoky flavor, and a tingle of heat on the tongue- reminiscent of a smoky bbq chicken but with more depth of layers. The fried chicken was also flavorful with its red spices and lightly coated exterior. It was not oily at all and reminded me almost of a crispy baked chicken. I almost forgot- we also tried the Cow foot soup at the end- it was rich from the collagen of the foot, like from pig's trotters, and packed with potatoes, carrots and a deeper orange veg- perhaps a squash of some kind? All of our dishes were spot-on delectable and we will definitely make the trek from OC to visit again. Fresh juices were also refreshing: watermelon, soursop, pineapple ginger (whooo with a real ginger kick to it!) The owners are from Panama and Jamaica and are super sweet, attentive and humble as well. When asked if they wanted to expand, the owner stated they wanted to keep it small and by word of mouth only. But with the home cooking quality and authenticity served up here I'm not sure how long this place can be kept on the DL! Sssshhhh!!! (Sorry some pics are missing as we were too hungry and forgot to take a pic of our brown stew, soup and chicken curry patty!!)
