I came in wanting to try the stew fish but since that wasn't available I went to another favorite. When I opened my container I thought that it wasn't a lot of food but by time I finished it was more than enough. When I tell you that salt fish and Ackee was bursting with flavor, literally it goes right in 'the best I've ever had' category.' Same for the Callaloo. Buddy and I came here on our trip to SoFi stadium. We both enjoyed it so much we made it a two day lunch spot. Even with an event going on at SoFi we had issue issues with parking or wait time. There was a couple folks inside or taking orders to go but never felt crammed. My only issue inside would be that it felt too warm for me personally. The first day we just got the meat pies. One of each and both loved them. I personally enjoyed the little spice of the beef one more than the more curry kind of flavor from the chicken. But I ordered both on day two so both are def good! I also ordered some plantains and festival. I've had festival once in Jamaica and loved it, the places I've been to sense then have not been the same. Lees was hands down the closest. I'd order all of this again if I make my way back to them/SoFi stadium. The price was four meat pies, plantains,festival and two waters and a little tip was under $30 which felt like a solid amount of food for the price. I'm so happy there is another family operated restaurant that has survived COVID. I went to Lee's after visiting another local establishment, after craving Caribbean food for weeks. This restaurant didn't cut it for me. I appreciate them serving lunch until 4pm, I was able to get a small oxtail plate and it was a generous amount of food. That's 1 star. I didn't have to wait long at all for my food, maybe 5 minutes that's 1 star. The oxtails were the most TENDER oxtails I've ever had at a restaurant ever 1 star. Now...There just wasn't enough seasoning for me...no salt in anything, no taste of browning or herbs, the meat, the rice, the cabbage....and the curry chicken pattie....just bland. First of all, everyone has an attitude when you walk in. This is normally something that ticks me off but when dealing with Jamaican cuisine, that is the ultimate sign of scrumptious food. 3 Signs you're about to be blown away when you go to a restaurant: 1. If the Seats look like an absolute war zone. 2. If the Hostess/Host has an attitude like they are mad you even walked in. 3. If there's a lot of old people in the restaurant, the food is consistently bussing because older folks don't really like change so they tend to stick to a certain place once they find out the food is good. They are doing some remodeling right now so the layout isn't too much to ride home about but it never has been a showstopper of a building. Very dark colors, there's like a haunted gum ball machine in the corner, old paint on the windows is chipping away, and the fridge desperately needs an upgrade because it's for sure older than me & I'm 21. Let's talk about that plate though. I'm an oxtail fanatic so of course I ordered the large. It comes with festival bread, cabbage, rice and peas, plantains, and the star of the show, Oxtails. I'd like to take a minute and point out how good the festival bread is because I had it at a place called Cecilia's Carribean Cuisine one time and I was genuinely concerned as to why they were allowed to serve such an atrocity. THIS is how festival is done. Crunchy and deep fried on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, sweet but not too much sugar. The cabbage was not over cooked and had a very fresh texture but a 'braised over night' taste with this umami flavor to it. Rice & Peas were the perfect bed to accompany the oxtails and that pool of gravy spooned over the rice will have your eyes rolling back. No exaggeration, that beef was serious business. I hear the wagyu and filet mignon talks but I've had them both and honestly, I feel like the price of the meat plays too much of a factor in the preparation. It seems like whenever a cut is more expensive, the chef gives less effort to detail. I've had filets burned, wagyu with no salt, tough sirloins, etc. - At this point, give me a braised oxtail over all that fancy shit any day. I would have given 5 stars but they forgot my plantains. I placed a pick up order for this location. I showed up a bit early and even though the sign on the door said open the door was locked with a metal gate. There were people loitering around the sidewalk in front and the car I parked next to was dealing cannabis out of the trunk! I tried calling after I left and someone answered. I heard noises like a kitchen in the background like it was busy but was difficult for me to reconcile the sound of an active restaurant to what I saw - an empty restaurant with chairs stacked on tables.
