A local gem! Truly. This is a super chill, casual spot for Brazilian food where you can sit inside or outside as a small party or larger groups. The kitchen was open air and it felt so spacious inside. I appreciated that they had pictures of the dishes on their menus. We ordered at the counter and sat down at a table with a number. It was pretty busy with families inside for a Sunday, but the food came out pretty fast. I went with the Brazilian beef roast plate and it came with yucca, rice, a salad, and a bowl of beans on the side. It felt so healthy, fresh, and the flavors were delicious. I enjoyed the yucca a lot more than I thought I would. The entire plate just felt really balanced. I also tried my partner's picanha dish and the meat was cooked really well too. Panelas is tucked away in a residential neighborhood along with other stores. It's a little hard to find without directions, but it can be found. The restaurant itself is clean and pretty with ample seating. They have an open kitchen concept for the store. I ordered the Picanha plate and my mom ordered the chicken plate. Our orders came out in a timely manner. We also got the Pao de queijo as our appetizers. They were pretty good, big, cheesy, and chewy. The Picanha was smoky and beefy. My Picanha plate also came with a fried egg on top of it. The black beans on the side, the feijoada, was pretty toothsome. My mom said her chicken was juicy and hot. We got our orders with drinks of Guarana Antarctica, the quintessential national soda of Brazil. Overall, I had a pretty great time at this restaurant. The prices are a little steep (just a little), but you get what you pay for. And you get a welcoming and excellent plate full of delicious Brazilian food. read more

WOW! This was some of the best Brazilian I've had. I started with a pão de queijo which was some of the best I've had - fresh and hot and so delightfully tasty. The guava juice was perfect - not too sweet and a fresh guava taste. I had the Brazilian salad with pichana which was juicy and tender. First time trying Brazilian food and was recommended to get their Brazilian plate. We tried it with chicken, it also had an egg, fries, salad (the dressing was good) and rice with a cup of beans (advised to eat them together). I really enjoyed the rice and beans, the fries were just okay. Overall everything was good and not too heavy. The juices here are really good. We tried the guava and the acerola (a type of cherry). Both were sweet and I would definitely recommend-- my personal favorite was guava but passion fruit was also recommended to us. The coffee here was also nice. I am not a big coffee drinker but thought it had a pleasant aftertaste even without added creamer or sugar. Overall would come back and try their other dishes, the desserts looked really good! I've eaten at Panelas in their original Redondo Beach location several years ago, and it was very authentic and flavorful. I was delighted to see they opened in a beautiful location in Hermosa Beach on Pier Avenue. I first spoke to Alex, and she was very kind. I had a hankering for Coxinha, a favorite Brazilian street food, after seeing Caramelo on Netflix. Also we were celebrating a special occasion. We were warmly greeted by the hostess Nikki who introduced us to Marcia the owner who was very gracious, welcoming and appreciative. It was a beautiful setting with both indoor and outdoor seating. Perfect view for the early sunset. The Coxinha was splendid ~ a Brazilian chicken croquette delicate and very flavorful. We ordered the Family dinner which had steak picanha, chicken breast and sausages. Everything was perfectly grilled. It came with three side dishes of which we picked the fried plantains, grilled veggies and black beans ~ all delicious. Very reasonable in price. The whole experience was terrific. We can't wait to return for another scenic and tasty dinner. The good: I was eating next door but saw this place and was too tempted to try it. I got the bbq plate as well as the skewered beef kebab plate with rice and vegetables. I liked the fun bread crumbs on the side that mixed well with rice. The salsa added nice acidity. The menu had tons of options. The pastries looked fresh. The table water came in cute French glass bottles and came super cold. They had indoor and outdoor seating. The orange corn (?) cake was DELICIOUS! It was served warm as well. My husband is a super picky cake person but he immediately deemed it as super good. They had other corn cakes as well and fun desserts like passion fruit mousse. You order and pay at the counter and then get a number for your table. I liked how the server knew to give us extra plates and kids plastic utensils for my toddler. The food got brought out promptly. The bad: I was too full to eat my lime pie but it looks delicious and I will eat it at home soon. The interesting: The workers actually seemed Brazilian and spoke Portuguese. What a wonderful experience! Save money on airfare and come to Brazil for an hour! The feijoada was delicious, we also shared the barbecue platter and it was all so good. The pork in the feijoada was as tender as chicken and the sausage so flavorful!!! I want to come back and try all the sweets/baked goods as well. The pao de queijo is delicious and made to order so our order was nice and hot but it did take 30 minutes to bake. I had the barbecue plate which consisted of picanha, chicken thigh and sausage. The picanha and sausage were delicious but the chicken was bland. Garlic rice ,black beans and potato salad were on point. Hubby had the veggie plate and loved it. We visited the restaurant quite often when it was a tiny 2 table dinner just a couple of miles from our old residence. I can't believe how much it has grown and became a large restaurant with seating for 50+ people. After browsing through the new menu, we decided to try the following dishes: Croquette Basket: an assortment of fried crockets with cheese, chicken and beef fillings. The outer part was nicely fried, and the filings were well seasoned. I highly recommend eating them with a couple of drops of house chili sauce. It greatly enhances the flavor. Churrasquinho with Picanha: even though we requested picanha to be medium well, the meat was still very tender and soft. The grill veggies were not over burnt. The rice with crispy farofa was very nice. The black bean soup was not too salty and went well with the meal. Pastels: the wraps were crispy but not overly fried, and the filings were nicely seasoned. Again, try them with a couple drops of house chili sauce. Passion Fruit Mousse: it was smooth and not overly sweet. The hint of sourness of the passion fruit went well with the overall sweetness and taste of the mousse. Beijinho: the blend of condensed milk's sweetness with butter and shredded coconut was amazing. Nice texture and not overly sweet. I could eat a dozen of this bite size joy. It felt like a homecoming and made me realize how much I miss its food. For sure we will stop by more often. read more

If you want excellent Brazilian food, this is the place. It's the best Brazilian food I've had outside of, well, Brazil. I can't believe I've lived walking distance from this place for years and didn't even know it was there. That's how tucked away it is... on a little side street, nestled behind a park, in Redondo Beach. I've been there several times now and it's consistently amazing. The staff is super friendly, the dining room is clean, and there's something on the menu for everyone. The feijoada is my favorite, probably because I find it's hard to get really good feijoada elsewhere, but everything we've tried, including the banana cake dessert, was great. Stopped in on a Saturday night to see a friend play. Had a wonderful time! Staff was very friendly. The steak was honestly one of the best I've had which is saying a lot for a place that isn't a steak house. It was juicy and flavorful. The roasted veggies are hard to make exciting but they were garlicky and delish . Atmosphere was really fun. The drinks were just ok. This is the best kept secret in Redondo Beach. It's tucked away on the edge of a residential neighborhood but worth seeking out. The food is always fresh and consistent in quality. I love the flavors and textures of the plaintains and the rice and beans and the fluffy little breads. When I was eating meat the steaks are something I still dream about. A lovely little cafe in a strip mall in a place you'd never expect to find a strip mall. I don't know much about Brazillian food but I'm glad I got to learn about it here. The only thing I do know if I love that Pao de Queijo, the impossibly addictive, chewy cheese bread. These are on the bigger side, but the texture is great. Feijoada is a bucket list dish for me, and this one is my first. A heart stew of black beans, so savory and salty, full of chunks of beef, bone-in ribs, chunks of pork, and slices of sausage. It's a dense dish, and even a few bites can be filling. The Brazilian Plate has picanha or a protein of your choice, and it's a pretty good cut of meat. A bit of chewing required but a nice mix with a little fat. Break the egg yolk across the top and eat with all the sides. Nice neighborhood, really nice experience for a casual lunch if you can afford the food coma that is sure to come. read more

Panelas is a really unique, quant little mom-and-pop owned restaurant, in the middle of residential North Redondo Beach. You can really tell they care about making a good meal and having it be authentic Brazilian. I think what's fantastic about them is their customer service. Side note, we came here for dinner and brought my nephew who's barely 2 years old. And we sat outside and naturally, he made a huge mess eating the rice and basically half his meal ended up on the ground. The waitstaff didn't make a big deal of it and cleaned it up after we left and we felt so bad. But they were super nice about it and we appreciate it a lot and will be supporting them going forward. Onto reviewing the food -- ironically, the appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. The Cheese Bread (Pão de Queijo) is incredibly chewy and perfectly dense to feel like it hit the spot. And best of all, the Fried Yucca feels like a better version of the French fry -- perfectly crisp with a fluffy inside. We also had their Steak Brazilian Plate, the Stroganoff, and the Feijoada.
