Sometimes they don't have any patties left which is frustrating but the food is always bussing! Been going here since 2020 with my ex.

Solid...this is your local neighborhood spot that deserves your support...I had the Curry Goat (the benchmark for all Caribbean spots)...I really enjoyed my dish...the plantains we're dry...I prefer mine softer & sweeter...the Rice & Peas were on point as well as the cabbage...I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town.

We were in the mood for some Jamaican food and ended up at Island Reggae Kitchen. The interior is quite small with only a handful of seats for dine-in. There was single employee so service was a bit slow, but we ordered two lunches. I will echo other reviews that it did appear that some meals are pre-assembled and then just microwaved to heat, but that said, the food was very tasty. I am always a fan of oxtail, and the flavors here were very rich. I was a bit disappointed in the drinks though, they tasted very artificial. Prices were fair.

this is the Large Jerk Chicken Meal

the food mainly the chicken was extra rubbery like they've been cooking it for weeks letting it sit on low in a pot also the prices are ridiculous it says the price is 18$ for a large meal so i ordered two and it came 60 dollars now granted i ate the rice and the greens thats because i got finessed every was suppose to be 36 somthing take my advice never ever in life go here im extremely disappointed and pissed

This area is not familiar to us at all, and we don't normally eat (for us) exotic cuisine. But, we were in the mood to try something new, so we stopped here. It's a colorful, cheerful little place. I think there are only like 4 tables. Apparently, it is mostly takeout. This became evident when our food was "served". We ordered a large two-meat plate and two large fried chicken plates. The two meats were "brown stew chicken" and curry goat. The meat is served in thick savory gravy/sauce. The "plates" are served with rice and fried plantains. The brown stew chicken was good. The curry goat was really good. Here's where the experience really veered sharply from our normal dining experience. The "plates" were served in takeout fold-over boxes with plastic forks. The meat itself was pretty much all adhered to bones. It was tender and delicious, but eating with our hands doesn't come naturally. So, I asked for a knife, and the sweet woman who takes the orders looked at me and said they don't have knives, and that we "just have to dig down into it". Indeed. She did give me a second plastic fork though, which I used. Nice workers. Authentic food. Huge portions. New experience which we all enjoyed.

After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.

I love rice and peas. The cabbage was a lil different than what I'm familiar with, however, it did not disappoint. The bread tastes like a fried donut. I liked it. And the jerk chicken was delicious and flavorful. It was tender. Everything was properly cooked. And everything was hot. No cold items. The sauce wasn't too spicy either. Upon entering, the staff greeted me warmly and made me feel right at home. I was asked if I wanted to take my food to go or eat in, and I chose to eat inside, although most customers seem to order takeout. This restaurant is a labor of love; you can tell they pour their heart and soul into the dishes. I asked about popular items and was told both the chicken and ox tail were well-loved, with a personal preference for the chicken. I decided to try the ox tail, as it's not something I usually order. The Ox Tail Plate ($26) features five tender pieces of oxtail, served with rice and beans, potato salad, and plantains. The small side of potato salad was even better than I expected; it has a sweet flavor with bell peppers for a nice crunch, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The plantains were also nicely moist. Overall, it was a very satisfying lunch. I would definitely order the oxtail again, but I'm also curious to try the chicken plate next time. This is one of those places that if you know, you know. The owner mentioned they've been around since 1983 and don't advertise or use social media. It's all word-of-mouth, and you can tell they don't need it because business is thriving. I initially anticipated paying between $20-$23, so I was surprised to see the final price was $28. While it's on the pricier side, the cost includes tax, and there's no expectation of tipping, as there's no option on the payment tablet. It's still a bit expensive, but I understand labor costs are likely factored in. I truly believe you get what you pay for, and sometimes paying a bit more means better quality. This isn't an everyday splurge, but it's absolutely worth it as a treat! You absolutely have to try this place! You won't be disappointed. We're lucky to live in a city with such great options, but where else can you get authentic, home-cooked Belizean comfort food? Come here for the taste of Belize!
