When I first started going to Ocotillo Eyecare it was great! I liked the doctors and the folks out front were amazing. This last time I saw a new doctor. She told me that I had severely dry eyes and I'd have to come back after not wearing glasses and using drops for a week. She also said I have glaucoma and got me a referral for a consult. THEN she said that if I get floaters I need to call 911 immediately and when I asked why she said it's because my retina detached. She also said I have high cholesterol (from my eyes???). All of this was said with drama and also rudeness. For the record, I am 41. Anyway, went back a week later (wore my contacts all week (no I didn't listen) and she said my eyes look MUCH better (uh ok) and she released my new contact prescription from being held hostage. That day I had to wait over an hour for her to see me. Yesterday, I went to the glaucoma consult. The PA was laughing when she got the image results because apparently they get this doctor's wacky consults all the time. My eyes are fine. There is no glaucoma (like at all...not even borderline). There is no reason to be worried about my retina detaching. Anyway, I am a very good judge of character and thought this doc was wrong from the get-go (although, I will admit I just found out my cholesterol is in fact borderline high), so I didn't freak out about any of this. I can only imagine she's going to scare the crap out of someone though and cause anxiety and panic! I will be finding a new eye doc asap and if you're looking for a new doc, don't go here. read more

Unfortunately after 10+ years of going to Ocotillo Eye Care, I've had to move on to another provider. I've always paid a copay for a routine eye exam and the last two times I went, they charged me full price for the visit. Last year it was $97.69 and after contesting it with my insurance, they refunded me $77.07. This time it was $143.22 for a routine eye exam and they would not honor my insurances copay. They tried to get me to pay out of pocket at first in order to "save me money" rather than go through my insurance. After I tried calling back twice about my bill, they stated that after getting absorbed by My Eye Dr, they now bill as a facility vs as a Doctor, so it applies to my deductible vs them accepting my copay. This billing change was not disclosed in their welcome email regarding this ownership change, as I would not have booked the appointment if that was the case. The receptionist, billing department, and staff have always been amazing and were very nice during this process, plus Dr Horwitz is probably the best Optometrist I've ever seen, but this shady billing practice isn't worth continuing service here. After checking the BBB for My Eye Dr, this is a common practice where they don't bill your insurance properly or simply pressure you to pay full price. I would avoid conducting business here. read more

After reading Whitney M. and Christine M. review my jaw dropped to the floor. Our whole family has seen Dr Powell since I can remember. Yesterday my daughter saw the woman doctor and was told the same thing. High cholesterol and her retina's were detaching and to call 911 if she started seeing flashing lights. My daughter, who is 31 very fit and eats healthy, called me in tears. Scared to death that she was going to lose her eyesight. What is going on in that office? Almost same experience as Whitney H. Read her review. She said the same thing to me. Here is my review: Longest ever customer of Dr. Powell's. Love the office and my entire family has gone there. Not anymore. I saw Dr. Fajardo and I took too long (90 days) to let them know which contacts I want and now they are holding my prescription hostage. I paid for my exam and my prescription is good for an entire year, but they won't give it to me. They are claiming because I didn't come back for a fitting check that they won't let me order. The contacts are the same brand I had last year. As a customer of 20+ years, I have never had a problem like this. Dr. Fajardo sure isn't Dr. Powell. They say I have to pay for another exam fee + contact fee. Might as well do that somewhere else. I don't think Dr Powell or Bronaugh would be too happy to hear how Dr Fajardo is treating people, but when I suggested it might be time for me to leave the practice, the front office said "piece out". I've been a client for over 20 years. I realize things have to change and staffing will change but I expect EVERYONE to make an effort to be professional. I frequently will give a pass to Doctors offices that are overwhelmed with sick patients, but this is not the case for Optometry. I don't like the new checkout system nor the hard upsell. they billed my insurance wrong. Had to call me back 2 months later to Tell me to give them more money. When we're supposed to order the contacts, they were the wrong contacts so technically I didn't even get a correct fitting, had to call him two weeks later because they didn't order the trial contacts. When trial contacts came in, they were the wrong prescription. So after I called them multiple times and sent text messages. I never got a response and finally had to go in order the same contact subscription I had before I even started the whole process. I do not recommend this to anybody. Great first experience as a walk in with my son to look at frame options for sports. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful to look at their selection of frames. Lynn Gannon was so kind and eager to assist us, sharing her own experiences with her kids that were in sports and wearing glasses vs contacts. She was quick to get trial contacts lined up and schedule us for contact training and a trial period of contacts. The Very Best! I have been attending Dr. Powell at Ocotillo Eyecare for over 11 years, having moved here from Europe. I am so glad I found this location. Dr Powell is an exceptional Eye Doctor. He initially detected that I have a serious eye condition and referred me to specialist ophthalmologists for ongoing treatment. Dr Powell is very knowledgeable, experienced and down to earth. He takes time with the patient and explains everything in an understandable and clear and concise manner. I also have to compliment the front desk - Bronagh and Tyra are always so helpful and considerate and will fit me in to see a doctor, sometimes at very short notice, if I have anything I am concerned about. Finally, I have to give a shout out to Yahida, who always picks out the most stunning frames to suit me and can adjust them in just one go, so that they fit so comfortably (no easy task in my case). Ocotillo Eyecare, specifically Dr. Timothy C. Powell, has taken care of my annual vision exams for the last few years. I appreciate the care, professionalism, services and honesty that they provide. Dr. Powell is down-to-earth, easy to talk with, and stays current with the latest trends in Optometry. I highly recommend this practice and Dr. Powell! Now, on another note, the eyeglass business is run separately from the practice, from what I understand. You can get a better price on frames via Costco or the internet, but I will say that the service technicians in-house are pleasant and can order a wide variety of frames. Yes, there is a mark-up, but with regard to Oakley frames and lenses, they are expensive no matter where you buy them. I recommend this practice and Dr. Powell to family and friends all the time. I've being going to Ocotillo Eye care for 25 years. Today I went in for my annual eye check up in Oder to get my scrip filled. they asked me about insurance when I checked in and I gave it to the front desk lady and I knew my insurance did not cover it. When it was time to pay I was asked to sit with the lady who job it is to sell me glasses or contacts. that was a first in 25 years, she started asking me about insurance again and asked if I needed to place an order? I said no I use Costco, she stated putting info in the computer and wanted to sell me on the in house price, I said No and left. So of course I leave without getting the scrip. I called back and asked them to email me my scrip and the lady who answered the phone said she would need to call me back. three hours later she called back and started trying to sell me the in house product. again I said I'm happy with a Costco, she wanted to know how much I paid for them? She starts selling me on the programs they have and at that point I said just email me my Scrip. Whats with the hard sell good lord It brought back memories of buying a used car. read more

We were greeted immediately at check in, the office was clean and well kept, the medical equipment was current and the exam rooms were large and roomy. We saw Dr. Lisa Ho. She was so friendly, very thorough in her exam and she educated me on the importance of caring for my eyesight having hypertension and prediabetes. I recently got a reminder from Ocotillo Eye Care telling me it's time to get my eyes examined. It made me sad. This is one of the few things I really hate about relocating - having to leave a good provider. And Ocotillo Eye Care is an excellent provider, both in ophthalmology services and eye wear. Dr. Powell is great. I always felt my eyes were well cared for. But even better was his wife Brinna (I hope I spelled that right). Any woman will agree that, regardless of what the optometrist says, how the glasses look on your face is the most important reason to pick an eye care place. Brinna has the magic touch. She will spend whatever time is necessary finding the perfect specs. And she only orders one of everything so that you don't walk into others wearing your glasses all over town. (Take that, Lenscrafters mass-market approach) Further, when I've had trouble, even months later, I've gone in and had the problem immediately resolved.
