I found myself coming here on the recommendation of my primary doctor who wanted me to get more than just a general eye exam from Lens Crafters. I wasn't sure what to expect here having seen their ads endlessly on tv and passing BDP buildings all over town, including up in Globe. Perhaps I expected them to be franchised and soulless, without any real people or knowledge beyond their slick marketing pieces. Sort of like politicians. It is occasionally nice to find that reality does not match your expectations, and BDP is one of those places. Everybody there was genuinely nice, and I had to do a lot of different tests with more than a few specialists. All of them took the time to explain what they were doing and the results. The docs assistants (who lets face it do most of the work, and are the unsung hero's) were all great as well and deserve a huge thumbs up as well. read more

Original Review 02/28/24: I am not a fan of Mc-businesses, and so it was with misgivings that I made an appointment for a full eye exam here. I only did so because it was the only nearby eye care on my health insurance plan. The first red flag was that the eye exam was $75 and did NOT include checking my prescription. That would have been an additional $45. I chose not to go with that, as my prescription was working just fine. About a month after my appointment, I got a notification that I had a bill waiting for me on their patient portal. They wanted me to pay an additional $130 for what was supposed to be covered by the $75! I have never in my life had to pay more than $85 for a complete eye exam, which INCLUDED checking my prescription. So instead of the "bargain" price I thought I had gotten by going here, they are now trying to extort additional money out of me. I have informed them that I am not going to pay any more money to them, but they are still sending me bills. I tried to look them up on the Better Business Bureau so I could make a complaint, but they are not listed with them. I guess I should have looked them up there before making an appointment. It certainly would have saved me a lot of grief. So be forewarned: you will pay more here than ANYWHERE else, and a "complete" eye exam is NOT complete... unless you want to pay even more. And if the company reads this review, I ask you again to write off what you think I owe you because I will not pay it, and I will never return to your business. EDIT 03/08/24: When I looked at my insurance website, I found that the grand total Barnet Dulaney Perkins charged for a simple complete eye exam was $470!! I have NEVER in my life paid more than $100 for a complete eye exam. This is flat-out highway robbery! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I certainly will from now on, whether it's on my insurance plan or not. Management private messaged me, wanting me to "call for assistance." I told them that I don't NEED assistance; I need the bill to be written off. They haven't written it off yet. I'll update now and then until the bill has been written off (if that day ever comes). EDIT 06/01/24: Just got yet another bill from them in the mail. Get a clue: I will NEVER pay you any more money. I own no real property, so suing me will not be profitable for you. Just let it go and write it off. In addition, on February 15, 2024, I received a notice from Medical Management Resource Group stating that an unauthorized party obtained personal information associated with patients of your practice, and therefore, someone may be committing identity theft and fraud in connection with MY information. I would think the LEAST you could do is write off whatever it is you think I owe you since, if my information has been stolen, YOU will owe ME FAR MORE in damages than the amount for which you continue to bill me. read more

I have been dealing with a diagnosis for over 10 years but did not need to take any action. My vision hasn't changed in about 5 years nor has my eye pressure. However, now I'm told I need surgery without any hard evidence requiring it. I believe Barnett Delany Perkins represents factory eyecare. I don't know if the doctors have sales goals in order to maintain status in the company, but it would not surprise me. I do know I was required to prepay my copay or my surgery appointment would be cancelled. I paid the copay within 4 hours but the next day I got an email demanding the copayment. And then when called with my appointment reminder I was told again that it had to be paid. I feel the practices of the billing department are questionable which has me reconsidering the practices of the doctors as well. read more

I have always been happy with this practice, the physicians and staff are typically exceptional. However today when I checked in they did not have my appointment. The woman who helped me was the same one who set up the appointment initially and because they couldn't find it, I am required to come back in almost a month for my appointment. I have the written appointment card in hand. Mistakes happen, but there was no apology, much less let's get you satisfied under the circumstances. What I experienced at this practice is called Unfair or Deceptive Business Practice. After clearly stating that my insurance does not cover diabetic eye exams AND prescription check exams on the same day, and that I would like to schedule those for different days, Doctor Brown still did both exams. I was not prepared to pay the $50 copay AND the $65 eye exam because I had told them that they needed to be different days (both in the initial phone call when making the appointment, as well as twice during the actual appointment). When I told the receptionist that I had requested those two things be on different days, she states "well, he provided the service. We can bill you for it". This is EXTREMELY unprofessional, and I will NOT be back - nor will I recommend them to ANYONE else; I will shout far and wide "DO NOT GO THERE!" read more

I had an appointment in Sept, 2024 to determine if I needed eye surgery. After the consultation, it was determined I was not eligible. Fast forward one year later, I received a bill for cancelation fee 1st occurrence. I called to dispute the fee, because at the 2024 visit, they indicated they could not help me. Why would I make an appointment one year later? I called the billing department to dispute, they admitted to me that they automatically schedule an appointment one year later. I never received any email or text to confirm an appointment. The billing department said they would forward to the office manager to review the dispute of the cancellation. I just received another bill for the cancellation fee. I called billing again and was told the manager reviewed the dispute and are upholding the charge. I asked if there is a way to talk to the manager, or a way to ask for proof of appointment and confirmation that I was going to be there. It took a bit of begging to get a phone number to ask about why I am being charged for an appointment that I never made. I was passed around and still did not have the opportunity to ask them to provide proof that I confirmed any appointment. I will NEVER go to this office for any procedure. Was sent here by my eye doctor because of eye sensitivity to light and glare a year after my cataract/lens replacement surgery (somewhere else). I saw a doctor who was very nice, explained what was going on and set me up for a laser procedure to remove some scar tissue that had formed on the new lens. We did my right eye first as it was the one really giving me troubles. Had the laser on Tuesday, on that Friday my eyes were VERY sensitive to light. I had to go to a lab appt and could barely get home safely. I used my drops that I've had, BDP didn't give me any after care drops to use. This didn't help and by late in the afternoon Friday I had to shut all blinds, turn off all lights and sit in the dark at home. I called BDP and their after hours person helped me. He made me an appt the next day to see a Dr Anderson at BDP on 22 St. In the morning, Saturday, I still couldn't stand the light so I wore my sleep mask as my husband drove me. I was called back and the assistant put numbing drops (both eyes) and dilating drops into my right eye, checked my pressure and left. Then Dr Anderson came in. He was very rude and condescending to me. Told me to get very dark, polarized sunglasses. Then I am on my way home and my husband, who was in the waiting room, said that Dr Anderson came out to the waiting room and was talking to another BDP employee about me. He said "If it's her right eye why does she have both eyes covered?" I don't know if there were other patients and drivers in the waiting room because I was wearing my sleep mask. I think this is very unprofessional behavior for a doctor of any kind. I was wearing my sleep mask because the light hurt my eyes! Hurt both eyes!!!! They kind of work together that way. They billed my eye doctor who billed me and I paid her. Then I get a text today asking me to pay the same exact amount to BDP. Make me wonder how many elderly patients end up paying BDP TWICE for their services because of this odd billing practice. Not me. I will NOT be returning to BDP for my left eye laser procedure. I had to sign a form that says I would return to BDP for all follow ups and anything to do with what they did to me. SUE ME, BDP! I will never trust my eyes to you again. You can think Dr. Anderson and his rude attitude to a person who was scared (my mom had macular degeneration) and in pain. I did like my BDP doctor Coulson. This was my first visit. On the negative side, I'm not a fan of electronic check-in, although the directions were easy to follow and the process was seamless. A little personal service goes a long way, in my opinion. Then, my wait was 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. This is unacceptable. However, once I wax called back, the tests were done quickly. Paula was friendly but efficient. The other woman who performed a test was abrupt and didn't bother to introduce herself. The wait to see Dr. Hutchings was just a few minutes. She explained the issue in easy to understand language, encouraged questions and then told me about the process for surgery. read more

I had a 720 appointment. At 10 to eight for the third time I went up and they were calling the 8 appointments. They said well I had a different doctor and that is why. She also said the appointments take about 2 hours. But even with it taking two hours which mine never have , it was still almost 45 minutes late. the person behind the counter was not rude but didn't seem to care. This place is awful. The scheduling people are terrible and incompetent. They take forever to verify insurance and then get everything messed up. When you meet with them ( Bria Blackmon) they give you their phone number and email address. Then they never answer your calls or get back to you on your voicemails or emails. The doctors are great, the business is not. Barnett did my Lasik in 2001 with Perkins assisting. Perkins did my cataract surgery in 2020, now I need a follow-up. The business is an optimized to save the doctor's time, at the cost of the customer's time. Hurry-up and wait. The office always has kept me waiting 20+ minutes after the appointment should start, today 40+. All the while, the front-office staff is chatting away with each other-- nobody is facilitating or expediting. In today's visit (when I finally got in and done) I was told to wait to schedule surgury, but then I was told they'd call me to schedule. When they did call and schedule, they tell me I need to come in for an appointement just to sign the consent form. Why did they not do this when I was in the office, or on the day of surgery. They get a huge markup on to get upgraded cataract replacement lenses, and they also give no discount for senior, veteran, or repeat customer. I have a tight schedule with people depending on me. I need to be able to depend on my service providers. They save money by having a loyal customer-- if they would just treat them right. read more

I had an appointment in early July, but it was cancelled in late June by Barnet Dulaney Perkins. I was not pleased to learn that the next available date was not until Aug 14. On Aug 13, Barnet Dulaney Perkins called again and cancelled my appointment for Aug 14 (the next day). They had failed to obtain an authorization from my insurance provider, and thought that they may have problems getting paid for my visit. Because I needed new glasses, I requested that Barnet Dulaney Perkins send a copy of my existing prescription. I was told that if I wanted it, I would have to pay $52.00. Had to have Cataract Surgery and my Dr. scratched my cornea on both of my eyes. Both separate surgeries 2 weeks apart. I would just like to warn everyone that the main goal of this facility is to get as many people through as possible. When you come, there is literally a sign that says to expect to be here 2-3 hours. You'll only see the doctor for like 5 min. It's ridiculous how little they care for their patients, no consideration for our time constraints at all. We are just dollar signs. Avoid this "meat market" eye surgery clinic at all costs! I have never experienced worse doctors, anesthesiologists, and/or the process of being a patient in my 69 years of life. It truly felt like I was meat on a conveyor belt ready to be processed. I never saw the same doctor twice. The clinic is also a "training platform" for students wanting to be Optometrists or Ophthalmologists. The patient is the experiment, the guinea pig. During the surgery in a gymnasium type of setting, there were dozens of other patients there, also experiencing the same surgery during the same day and time. These clinics should be reviewed by the AMA! Dr. Dulaney's team ruined my eye to the point where I can barely now see after a routine cataract surgery. After the surgery, my eye ball was like red gelatin and drooping out of my eye socket like a huge red rubber like teardrop. I couldn't shut my eye! They didn't care. There was no response from my calls after surgery that same day. They didn't care! I should have noticed when they made me sign about three disclaimers stating that I could not sue them after surgery. Obviously, there are more wounded patients than just me. There office, Surgical and Front office staff made me feel like I I was on an assembly line and have no compassion or even care about the patient. The 2 - 3 hour wait time is terrible. went to this location to have a basic annual eye exam. I was was absolutely shocked when I walked in!! I The waiting room was SO overcrowded with senior citizens, it had to be a fire code violation! The waiting room was filthy, old, and clearly this corporation had no interest in their patients' comfort! I realize it was a hot day but the AC was not working. I felt so sorry for all the seniors waiting! The first thing I thought of when seeing this was a human rights violation!!!!!!! We got a referral from our PC due to my husband having diabetes the insurance covered the exam First , very hard to get thru to talk to too get thru . .they keep hanging up. , Or Putting me on hold . Day of our appt arrives , don't be fooled by the address, Nobody knew what the others were doing , up front. There is a saying , stupid us as stupid does , you can't fix stupid the doctor really scared my husband by saying there was a problem with his kidneys and his doctor needed to see him right away . I am not very tech savvy and had a hard time registering on the tablet. Went up a few times to ask for help and the receptionist was rude and hesitant to help. Needed a translator and there was no one able to assist me. But a couple next to me was offered a translator when registering. Overall most staff I dealt with on my appointment were rude and not helpful. Haven't experienced such bad customer service in a while. read more
