The process is very straightforward and if you're new to it just remember they cannot rush a process that quite literally involves extracting something from a human body. You know how sometimes you walk into an office or store and there are very clearly employees looking unengaged and not into their job? I don't see that here. They always look like they're busy and it's probably because they are. Now the environment... It's the only reason I don't give this place a full 5 stars. While I understand it's meant to be a clean sterile environment I think the repetition of the same music and lack of atmosphere make it a very dreary place to visit. I don't expect rainbows and butterflies just some variety in the music and ambience sometimes to deter you from feeling like you're just being harvested.

However, they wanted me to wait and talk to a Manger to see if they took a picture. If another center could upload it. As I sat and waited with no one in line, 1 lady was walking around and the one waiting on me and asked me to wait, helped the other person. When I got up to leave after 10 minutes of nothing, the lady not doing anything asks if I am leaving. Then the other one who was originally helping me says she was going to help me when she was done. Needless to say, I can not donate because my picture needs to be uploaded but the day shift can only do that and I work 2 full times jobs and was trying to squeeze in a donation. I think a phone call would have been nice but apparently that is NOT what they do. No contact number on the website or App.

My visit took longer than expected though. I have good veins and drink plenty of water so I rarely have any issues. Maybe the nurse was new I'm not sure. Just know she kept having to adjust the needle. My donation from start to finish took almost 3 hours. Not fun. I liked that they have squeeze balls readily available, well it's more like a styrofoam roll but works the same. Also liked that they call you by name when they are ready for you. Other centers that I've gone to don't do this. Only wish that they'd speak louder or come out to the waiting area when they call your name. Overall, solid first impression, would come here again if in the area.

Now I'm lost, and I'm late for the Towson appointment, they won't change it. I reschedule again for the place in Baltimore who NOW can see me earlier ‍ Now the Baltimore place has 1 person on the counter and a line of about 20 people. How was this better than seeing me earlier?! By the time I'm finally reach the counter (1 hour and 15 minutes later!) I'm mad. Guess what happens when you're mad? Your heart rate goes up! Now they won't see me because my heart rate is higher than my normal rate. I left without donating. How is this better than DoorDashing?! I think they make you miss donations so you won't get the new donor bonus (you have to make 8 donations in 30 days).

I got there when the doors opened at 9am. I had to do my questionnaire on the kiosk. After that I waited in line. There was a good amount of people there to donate but I knew the line would shorten quickly because they had 3 employees screening. As I got up to about being the 5th person out to be screened they had to stop and Curtis explained why and he apologized to us all why they had to stop screening briefly. All beds were full, they had 2 new donors waiting for there physicals and there were no chairs in the waiting area for us to sit in. They were under staffed. From the time I walked through the doors at 9am til I sat on a donors bed the time was 11am. I don't understand why they took the chairs out. The wait was terrible that day. I've noticed that a couple times I've gone to donate that the long waits are happening more often. Only to find after I'd been sitting there 15 minutes already that the blood procurement team was delayed AT LEAST 30 minutes. I found this particularly frustrating as I had left work to donate, but I stuck it out since I was already there. Luckily when I was called back, the Red Cross person helping me fill out online forms was nice and processed me through quickly. She also set me up comfortably to have my blood withdrawn. She was able to find my vein and poke me with little pain nor fanfare. This whole process took maybe 20-30 minutes and wasn't bad - I just surfed on my phone. So overall, all the Red Cross folk I interacted with were great, but the time management was lacking. I will, of course, continue to give blood, however, next time I schedule an appointment, it will be first thing in the morning, not at 1:45pm on a workday.
