The times I've donated they've appeared to be understaffed, so everything takes a little longer. The first time you donate it will take about 3 hours because you'll need to complete a medical history form and a physical exam. After that, donations usually take around 90 minutes to 2 hours... This depends on how fast your blood flows, how busy they are, and I would also say, the experience level of the Phlebotomist. The first time I donated, the needle came loose and started bleeding all over the chair. It wasn't painful, just embarrassing. They had to continue the process on my other arm, which I wasn't too thrilled about. I can't remember what exactly went wrong. The second time, I think I had a rookie. She wasn't able to find my vein and had to reinsert the needle several times. That started to get painful and it left a sizable bruise. There was a point during the donation process where she took out the manual to the plasmapheresis machine and started reading it in front of me, which didn't give me much confidence. I contemplated not going back. The third time went smoothly, no issues, it was good. Despite all of this, I still think the place has potential. You can make some decent money and they have coupons almost every month. I think these issues will get resolved with more hires and the longer they're open.

BioLife did, NOT the state of Nebraska. Tattoos now have to be a certain distance from the veins. Really? So now I'm going somewhere else which is a pain, but I signed up to do this and im not stopping because BioLife decided tattooed people aren't quality donors. Lousy move guys

I used to donate back when I was getting my bachelors degree, it was at a CSL Plasma center, of a different location than Omaha. These guys were much more thorough as far as check ups and making sure your plasma is up to their standards. However, I cannot speak for the CSL plasma center in Omaha, as I've never been there. Octo explained the process very well and what to expect very thoroughly. It actually has made the process more enjoyable, even though they poke you twice every time you're there. I typically go around 3pm on the days I do go, no complaints of the employees or the customers. UPDATE: Been going a year off and on, has been a overall great experience, highly recommend. See updated photo. UPDATE: They have quit giving out saline during donations. This in particular is a big deal for me, I don't NEED it necessarily but it definitely helps the whole process. They always offer snacks, and often have some type of drawing or contest going on for the location. I wish I remember her name, but one of the staff -- I believe Shelley? Has been my favorite member there. I feel the least amount of pain with her, she is very good at her job! I have not been to other American Red Cross locations, but I do recommend this one as it is always a quick, painless, and very friendly experience!

These Techs /Nurses are terrific! It's a place where you feel welcomed and cared about. Clean , friendly. Relaxing. They know what they are doing.! This was my first visit to the Nebraska Community Blood Bank donation center. I had donated to them…read moreonce before at a mobile blood drive. I have been impressed with the efficiency and care of the service and the selection of drinks and snacks available. I don't want to sound petty about a different blood bank that literally offered day-old bagels. I mean...it's not like I go there specifically to get a snack but it's important. I just gave my blood, it's not easy. There are other reasons that I have now switched to Nebraska Community Blood Bank (mainly that Red Cross seemed like they were always trying to hard-sell me on doing Double Reds). So far so good.

Easy money if you keep yourself healthy. Keep an eye on the tubing, though. They were really busy when I was there last week, and the was a kink in my tube. I told the phlebotomist and she fixed it before anything bad could happen (like pressure building up and blowing the bowl, making me defer for a month because I couldn't get my blood back. This happened about two years ago).But overall, the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable.

Looks like they are short staffed and the few staff they have are working at a snail's pace and take no regard in the fact that there are so many people waiting to get stuck.

But, you can't control other people playing the victim in every scenario. Anyways, they have great deals such as for your first month getting $100/donation. P.S. any needles that could potentially be non-sterile such as one on a needle gun, they don't allow a donation for 6 months due to the potential contraction of hepatitis. If you truly cared about helping people more than the money you'd understand that.

I will say a few things im not happy about is the new payout they decided to just up & change all of a sudden for those who are on the tetanus program. I have literally missed out on my 2nd donation (not by choice), 3 weeks in a row, and with the new pay out im only getting 1/4 of what i was getting for my 2 donations. Its really kind of screwed me, as i spend money getting rides to & from to donate every week, and some. The other thing that im not happy about is how they started using scissors when you finish donating instead of the devices they used previously to seal off the blood in the tube being disconnected! I watched poor staff have blood spilled on them several times because of this, and to me i think its a huge hazard to the employees working not to mention patients coming in to donate. I really wanted to share this review because i have been donating for over 20years, and some of these changes are just not right with me. I will however give kuddos to the staff, they are hard working & always friendly to me in all of the years i have been coming to donate. They all deserve pay raises, and hope that the corporate office takes what im saying seriously, because it would be sad to lose good staff & donors as myself that have been continuously coming to donate and making you money!
