I have recently become a certified Red Cross volunteer as Disaster Action Team in Central Florida…read more When one thinks about the Red Cross, usually mass disasters, such as hurricanes or earthquakes come to mind; however the Red Cross does FAR more than that for the community. The Red Cross responds to local disasters on a daily basis, such as house fires, which occur many times a day in Greater Central Florida. Teams respond with compassion, care, and assistance for those impacted by a disaster. Working with multiple agencies, the Red Cross makes sure that victims of disaster are set up with immediate care for temporary housing, food, counseling and so much more. This local chapter in Orlando has an amazing team in place, balancing logistics, client care, volunteers and also offers a plethora of courses to the community in a variety of fields, such as certification for CPR/First Aid and more. The road to becoming a certified volunteer is rigorous and there are many courses to complete, but so very worth the time invested. This local chapter is so well managed and truly worthy of a 5 star rating. If you find yourself in need of assistance, please reach out to the Red Cross. If you are looking for a great place to volunteer, the Red Cross will help you find a good 'fit' for what you are looking to do. Hands on disaster response was my choice, but there are a great many areas that are needed to support the operation in administration areas, hospitality areas and more. Please contact the Red Cross now if you wish to become a volunteer and you will be trained and ready when the need arises for activation of volunteers.

TL;DR - If you've donated blood in the last 8 weeks, don't bother going…read more I'm going to give them two stars for now, but I may raise it based on future visits. I would do one star, but everyone working there was very nice. I did everything I was supposed to. Made an appointment, had my paperwork straight, etc. I got there and signed in. I told them I'd just finished dinner, as recommended, and was still handed a big bag of Goldfish crackers and a bottle of water to eat while I sat in the waiting room. So I had to put that on top of a full stomach. Long story short, I went through an hour of jumping through hoops only to be turned away because I had donated blood less than 8 weeks ago. Really? If they had asked that at the beginning, I could have avoided wasting my time and space in my poor stomach.

When I came in I was told kids are not allowed. The guy at the desk was trying to explain to me why. When his co worker Janessa came up behind him and gave me an earful and a horrible attitude and then recommended that I leave my child in the car in the parking lot while I donate. It was my first time here and first time ever donating. I looked over the entire website and It didn't say don't bring children (one of the girls told me the other centers have a small area for kids-just not this one). I am a nurse and have patients bring their children to the hospital with them for routine tests and visits often. I understand that it's for his safety, and why after the office manager explained it to me. However, Janessa didn't have to be so incredibly nasty with me. And because of that, I will not be back and I'll not recommend this place to anyone else. The recommending me to leave my kid in the car in the parking lot was an exceptionally extra hateful touch. I cannot imagine this woman will not have complaints similar to mine going forward. I asked the manager to look at the camera and replay the interaction. She gave me "corporates" number, and it was just the 888-472-0099 card services number. She did give me an email of a manager, which I'll post attached to the review.

Not a big deal but when I tried to speak with the tech she immodestly started yelling that " I DID YOU A FAVOR BY BRINGING YO IN. I COULD HAVE LEFT YOUR ASS STANDING." I got up and walked out without saying a word to her. Then she continued "BYE!.... BYE! Now I am 100% Latino but I look white. I wonder if this was her motivation to belittle me in front of the other guests. This was definitely the vibe I got from her What a shame. Working remotely I now have an assignment in the Orlando area which facilitates reassuming my donations here locally. My initial interaction with a help desk gentleman at 609 N Powers dr. Was nothing short of unprofessional, unwelcoming and borderline hostile. I was told that my address verification letter which had a USPS date stamp for the previous week was unacceptable and I was additionally insulted and asked who was the letter sent by . Even if the letter was sent from Santa Claus, that was in no way reflective of company policy, donor eligibility requirements, or my personal privacy. This staff is grossly unprofessional, displays aggressive patterns, of behavior and treat potential donors as an inconvenience . As a verified donor I merely required a change of venue, not a hostile interrogation from an inarticulate staff member.
