We went for our anniversary this weekend and had a wonderful time! They even helped us celebrate a bit extra with some champagne which was really nice of them. The service was awesome, the food was delicious, and the ambience was romantic out on the indoor-outdoor area. Our waiter was super careful and respectful of my dislike of cilantro (yay). My only complaint was it was quite cold in that area (I had selected to sit indoors hoping to avoid unpredictable temperatures but oh well). Here's what we ordered: - Apple cheddar salad (wow the vinaigrette soaked apples were to die for) - Broccoli quesadilla (great overall flavor with a hint of added spice... cloves? ... and a zesty dipping sauce) - Chorizo stuffed quail (small portion, but nice flavor with a subtly sweet crust and complementary acidic vegetable pairings) - Grilled pork belly (nice smoky grilled exterior with deliciously sweet and sour vegetable mix) Cocktails: - tea totaler (smooth and great) - draft Paloma (truly a salty foam and nice citrusy drink) Can't wait to go back and try their menu in a different season! Everything from the food to the service and decor was great! Each dish was a unique and creative combination of flavors that pair surprisingly well together, making for a really interesting dining experience. For starters, the cornbread was fantastic. The chile and leek butter added an incredible amount of flavor to a delicious loaf of cornbread that was the perfect consistency. The fried quail was also incredibly tasty, with the gamey flavors being supported by a diverse assortment of flavors from the peppers, basil, and peaches. The red snapper ceviche was extremely fragrant, and the grilled olives added an umami flavor to the fish. For dessert, the panna cotta was a refreshing end to a great meal. The lime acidity was perfect and not overpowering, and the cream was a light consistency that balanced well. The specialty drinks were also great, and we loved the beet soda. read more

Paloma (2/5) [$6] Tequila Grapefruit that didn't quite hit the mark for me. At least it was cheap. Frozen Watermelon Swirl (4/5) [$13] Strong drink so you get your money's worth. Also refreshing on a hot summer's day. Fairly good. Spicy Melon Salad (4.5/5) [$5] Creative fruit salad that mixes sweet and savory. I liked the creativity and the flavor. Very refreshing in Texas summer. Redfish Ceviche (4.5/5) [$14] Creative spin on a ceviche by adding potato chips to it. The redfish by itself lacked the flavors I want, but by crushing the chips and eating it together, I got a variety of texture and the flavor from the chips complemented the fish very well. I wish the fish tasted great by itself, but not upset at all at the combination flavor. TX Wagyu Burger (2/5) [$18] Yelp's 2* rating is stated as "Meh I've had better" which is what this burger was. The burger was cooked medium rare, and it came out tender and juicy, however, there was a lack of salt for me to bring out the beef flavor. As for the other components, the jam was good and the crispy onions were a good addition, but the cheese and the aioli flavors were nonexistant side for me. For $18 and the hype, the burger heavily underperformed. Grilled lamb Kefta (4/5) [$25] This dish came with one kebab of lamb kefta with some sweet hummus, homemade flatbread, yogurt sauce, and a small salad. The hummus was a bit overly sweet, and the meat was overly salted but in combination with the other ingredients, the flavors balanced out. tl;dr The rating falls just shy of 3.5 for the Odd Duck for me (weighting the entrees more than the drinks and apps). The burger seemed to hit the spot with a lot of people but it was a 'no' from me that night, as the flavors just didn't come through. The ceviche and melon salad were fun and creative appetizers that worked so definitely get those! Prices were a bit on the high end for the food we got, even with the happy hour price on the spicy melon salad and the paloma. read more

We went here while visiting Austin for a few days after seeing it on many food blogs! And let me tell you, you will not be disappointed!! This was our favorite restaurant we tried! Ambiance/service: the service was amazing and attentive. We had cozy bar seats. And the bartender was knowledgeable and passionate about all things food and wine. Ask for recs from the menus, trust me they know what they're doing. The food and drinks were consistently good from the starters to the dessert! Don't forget the corn bread (best I've ever had). This dinner was one to remember! My party and I shared all of the dishes pictured. We found ourselves giggling at how amazing each dish tasted! Very very friendly staff!! That's definitely what stood out most to me - the bartender, Dan, made sure I was taken care of and the servers were fantastic and friendly as well. I came for dinner one night during my conference stay so I was at the bar by myself - they made me feel so welcomed and chatted with me and made sure everything was perfect! I don't normally like the smokiness of the mezcal but the bartender made me the Sayonara Scotty and told me he'd make me another if I didn't like it - and this drink wasn't overpowering with mezcal at all. The strawberry, thyme and lemon really cut the smokiness of the tequila! It was different but I liked it. The draft Paloma was also really good! Food wise, I had the redfish ceviche! Yum!! I think this was my favorite of the night. The fish, the beets, the curry and the tiger's milk - the combination of the sweet potato curry flavor with the tart/sweetness of the beets mixed very well together with the chips. Freshness and color and everything in between. Who would've thought the flavor combination would go so well together! The beets almost tasted like strawberries and rhubarb combination with the curry mixed in! The sunny duck egg with the pig face, braised greens and cornbread was also good. I loved the pig face, so soft and flavorful! The addition of the duck egg and corn bread was fantastic! Not usually a fan of the braised greens so wasn't a fan here either. Cast iron paella with the BBQ octopus, pork belly, sofrito, and aioli was also good. I liked the softness and the flavor of the pork belly and the octopus, however the aioli made the dish a little too rich. I think a few less dollops of aioli or none at all would've made the dish perfect. I also thought there was way more meat than rice ratio but maybe cause the aioli made it too much and I wanted more rice to cut the taste. Overall, I loved the open kitchen/open concept bar feel. The ambiance made it nice and homey and so did the friendly staff and amazing combination of foods. Though it wasn't the best food I've ever had, nor the best ceviche or paella, I liked that the dishes were different, had different flavor profiles that what I've seen and were creative in a delightful way. read more

The parking lot is tight and small, no point in waiting in the lot for a spot so if you're good with Valet, DO IT. You can do street parking if you don't mind for a walk. I do valet or street parking depending on the occasion, weather, or how I'm feeling. Odd Duck is more of a shareable type of meal. Great place to come and chat it up while enjoying food with one another. I wouldn't come here to get full. More of a place to snack here and there. Their old fashion is yummies. read more

Came here for dinner, sat at the bar and ordered 3 dishes. The food was pretty good but the portions were teeny tiny! We got the ceviche, the paella and the wagyu steak. The ceviche was kind of different. The beet sauce was a bit thick so the texture of the dish was unlike anything I've had before. The paella was good but the flavors did not really taste like seafood or paella it just tasted like rice with pork belly and octopus. The wagyu was ok, a little too cooked for my liking actually. Great place with some unique food combinations. I went for Sunday brunch with my GF. We had coffees with us, but they wouldn't let us bring them in so we threw them out. We sat outside in an enclosed and heated patio. Service was very friendly and fast, but they didn't bring the plates all out together (which was a little annoying). My GF is vegetarian and the waiter crossed out all items that she couldn't eat on her menu. He was confident that they could make almost any dish without its meat components. The brunch was small plates style. We each ordered one dish for ourselves and split the French Toast. The French Toast was AMAZING!!! Probably the best I have ever had. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it was good, but had a lot of odd flavors to it (to be expected I guess). It was also mostly sausage, which I was not expecting (I was expecting egg). **I would have given 5 stars based on food only** Visited Odd Duck on a quick trip to Austin. Our reservation was at 8:30PM and we were seated immediately in a nice spot in a covered outside area. We ordered drinks quickly but it took a while to get them. It also took a while for the waiter to take our order. I don't think they were understaffed or slacking, I just think they want you to enjoy your time there without being rushed BUT we flew in that evening from EST and it was already 9:30 for us on a weekday. Also, the restaurant closes at 10:00 so it did not leaving us much time for a leisurely dinner. We ordered about 6 items, all of which were amazing. The pretzel bread and the chicken fried fish head were the standout items. All were fantastic though. Each of the 6 items came out individually which took even more time and we probably waited 30 minutes between our second to last item and last item. We did not even want it at that point but ended up eating it anyway. It was fantastic. Also, I only had one drink, a dirty martini. I would have had at least one more if I was given the opportunity. It's been 3 years since I've been here. Fridays there is no happy hour. Service was great. Cocktail drinks start at $13 and are tasty. We ordered the beet salad with corn nuts as topping. We also ordered the peach salad with pork rinds and chevre. That was very flavorful and delicious with different flavor combos like peach with pork rind. The entrée was stuffed quail. It was vey delicious and nicely presented. The wagyu burger was perfect and buttery. Good use of pork belly. I wish I had room for dessert. Great service and food came out quickly. We sat at the bar and came on a Friday right around 5PM so we didn't have to wait as walk ins. I think it's free valet, wish I remembered that but there was street parking on the side road until 7PM. I wanted to try their special, which is a whole fish head, deep fried. I had high hopes for this place. Wife made reservations and we made plans for our kid so we could have a peaceful night out. Parking was easy - just do the complimentary valet. Service: We ordered right away as we did have some time commitments. At time of ordering we did tell our waitress that we needed to leave by x time. All seemed good. First item came out relatively quick, but the next 2 times took some time but eventually showed up. It was the wait for the last course that really took time, almost to the point of cancelling and just leaving. It was at least 30min of waiting. We didn't say anything about it but did rush eating and asked for the check when it showed up. The staff did recognize this and gave us some cards for future visits. They told us the team mixed something up and the timing got off. I can't believe its been 4 years since my last visit and Odd Duck hasn't missed a beat since then. They're still slinging creative and very tasty dishes and keeping that cool vibe. This visit was not different than last, that is there's always a wait, generally 30-40 mins, which in my world I never will wait that long. This time they did a good job of bridging that gap by getting drink orders to us turned around quickly and had ample area to lounge around and wait. Oh, and the wait was only 20 mins but seemed much faster. The food or dishes are more of a tapas (smaller plates) style so variety is the spice of life. I like eating this way because it allows you to sample everything rather betting on black and hoping your dice turn up with double sixes. On this visit dishes I can highly recommend is the Pretzel, chorizo spiced mushroom, masa mustard for $8, Oven roasted sweet potatoes, whipped cajeta, pecan pork fat crumble for $9, Wagyu short rib pasta, cabbage, turnip, mushroom, meyer lemon for $21, which I thought were all super yummy and great value. There are several other creative dishes on the menu I wanted to get, since I know my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I have to say, I'm typical pretty skeptical about modern American type of restaurants that tries to charge more for tapa sized mediocre food, but I am thoroughly impressed by Odd Duck! Not only if all of their ingredients locally sourced, but we had some of the most creative dishes and fantastic flavors from Odd Duck. Their cornbread was fantastic, their tortilla was also really interesting. Their wagyu burger is the star of the meal, such a interesting combo of chips, cheese, and collard greens in a fantastically juicy burger, this was probably my favorite burger of all time, I would come back just to eat this again. The ambience is also on point, I would recommend bar seating for front rows seats to the kitchen, just make sure you reserve several weeks to a month ahead! read more

The food here was amazing, only topped by the service. Even the Valet guys were super sweet and when I told one gentleman I didn't have a reservation, he ran inside and asked the hostess if she could fit me in. I was seated at the bar and while I can't remember his name, my server/bartender was so kind and welcoming. I've had several experiences in Austin at fine dining restaurants lately where my servers made it seem like a chore to be there and acted as if they were just ready for us to leave. That was not the case here at Odd Duck. Everyone was extremely hospitable and fun to chat with. I will be back soon for the fried fish head and highly recommend the agua Fresca cocktail. read more

Odd Duck is our stomping ground and watering hole. Missy is our fav server who is always willing to make our day, she does everything with a smile and makes you feel so SEEN at the end of a grueling work day. Willem (sorry if I'm spelling wrong!!) is an excellent bartender who always makes the perfect Nice Bryce. I'm a pescatarian and my partner eats everything, and we both adore this place and feel we can both eat and be merry. The setting is perfect for friends, alone time at the bar, a date, or a business dinner. I try and spend every special occasion of ours here. I bought all of the almanacs and am forever an Odd Duck. Food was amazing; service was subpar. They do have a gluten free menu, which was accommodating. Our server made a tasteless joke when my friend asked HOW the quail was, basically insinuating she didn't know WHAT quail was. He told another one of my friends to calm down when she asked how sweet the espresso martini was. After 20% gratuity was added to the bill, he commented there was an option to add more. Absolutely not... you mocked us as guests who were celebrating a bride to be, from out of town. Half of the guests have worked in service industry too, so he really ruined that extra tip he basically asked for. Oh and how could I forget? He suggested 10-12 items for 6 people to share. We ended up with 8 items which was more than enough. When my friend and I decided to split the $30 (plus) burger and the eggplant appetizer, he said we needed to move our seats in order to share.
