There are moments when human beings believe they are on a quest for higher knowledge. And then there are moments when they are just heavy objects being pulled toward the earth by gravity, wanting nothing more than a chair, a cooked piece of dough, and a cold glass of beer to dull the edges of the evening. The remarkable thing is that the second quest often yields the greater joy. Five of us, all varying degrees of exhausted from a long day of sightseeing, stumbled into Odell Brewing's Sloan's Lake Brewhouse at the corner of 17th and Perry. We were not looking for a miracle. We were looking for a soft place to land. We ordered our dinner, then ventured up to the rooftop patio, which looks out over the lake. I'm told that when the entire surrounding landscape isn't engulfed in flames that you can clearly see the jagged spine of the Rocky Mountains from up there. It is a very fine place to sit while the planet rotates away from the sun. They have a second bar up there that is just as well stocked as the one on the main floor, and the space was filled with the pleasant, low-grade hum of people who were glad to be alive and not currently looking at a screen. The kitchen turns out scratch-made pizzas, so we ordered a Margherita and a Garden Harvest. You must understand something about the five of us: we come from Central and Northern New Jersey. In our part of the world, opinions about pizza are not casual preferences; they are inherited like family heirlooms or chronic joint pain. To say that a group of Jersey natives found these pizzas to be genuinely good is a small miracle of regional diplomacy. They weren't trying to imitate a New York slice. They were just honest, well-baked pies with fresh ingredients, which is an honorable thing for a pizza to be. Then there was the beer. According to their website, this location houses a 10-barrel pilot system where they brew experimental, small-batch R&D beers you can't get anywhere else. I believe them. The fruited sour we sampled was bright and lively, the sort of beer that makes you wonder why so many other breweries get the style completely wrong. The porter was equally memorable, rich, dark, and smooth, with deep roasted notes that made it far too easy to drink. It was a beautiful piece of liquid craftsmanship. The staff was fast and entirely devoid of the plastic, rehearsed cheer you so often find in corporate franchises. They brought things out before we had time to grow cranky, and they seemed genuinely glad we had wandered into their corner of Denver. We had expected a purely transactional exchange of money for calories before going to sleep. Instead, we got a rooftop at dusk, exceptional beer, and the sudden, sweet realization that the day had ended exactly as it should. People are strange, fragile creatures, but occasionally we stumble into the right table at the right time. read more

Such fun! We attended the Halloween event. We came with a group of folks and had a great evening. There was live music and everyone brought it with their costuming. I had the Mexican lager as my beverage of choice. Light and delicious. My husband ordered for us and got us each a salad. I had the Chicken Chopped salad and he had the Southwest. We shared the Bison Meatball Sub pizza. It had bison meatballs, green peppers, onion, provolone, mozzarella, topped with parmesan herb mix and a red sauce swirl on a red base. Delicious! Fun Oktoberfest! Had a wonderful first time here this past August for their Oktoberfest. They had two floors of festivities and several contests! First off, they had great cool mugs! Then, the German beers were flowing upstairs to n their beautiful patio overlooking the city. Staff was very nice! I loved the contests like stein holding and the costume contest. The space was massive with multiple floors for seating including balcony seating. This made it easy to get seated without a long wait. The food was delicious- we ordered wings, crispy brussel sprouts, truffle shuffle pizza and Parmesan fries. The beer selection was fantastic. Overall, I had a fantastic experience here. read more

Finally stopped in after walking by so many times and I am happy to say it did not disappoint! I walk around Sloan Lake weekly and always walk past Odell. This past weekend I finally decided to come inside. It is massive! They have plenty of seating on the first floor and also on the rooftop deck which overlooks the lake. Plenty of TV's all around so you can watch the game. They do have an elevator up to the top floor. ADA Accessible! You order at the counter, and they will find you. The atmosphere inside is so relaxed, we felt comfortable coming in wearing our workout clothing. Seems like more of a casual clothing type of place. Now the food was the real deal. We got a salad and a pizza which was perfect for two very hungry people. It truly hit the spot! I highly recommend and I cannot wait to come back. This is a great hidden gem around sloan lake. I was in town with some girlfriends and happened to be across the street at the park when we decided it was time to make a pitstop. Low and behold Odell Brewing was right in front of us and we noticed they had a rooftop patio. We were sold. When we first walked in, the place downstairs was completely empty. No surprise given how beautiful it was outside. Didn't even get a welcome from the staff. After figuring out how to get upstairs we headed to the bar to grab drinks. They have an indoor section and then a large outside area. It had shade which was lovely, and misters too. The view overlooked the park which was a great backdrop. I got their house made seltzer, which in my opinion tasted just like a beer. I get that they're a brewery but the sign said seltzer. I just didn't know what I was getting and I wasn't a fan. The food on the other hand was outstanding. I got a caesar salad and shared some appetizers with my friends. My salad was absolutely delicious. I wasn't expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised. I cleaned my plate. I snacked on some fries too and they were a good as well. Overall, they've got something great going on. While I'm not a beer drinker, I'd come back for the food and rooftop. Yum! Pizza galore here for a very hungry group of 6. We started off with some great appetizers. The smoked trout dip was my absolute favorite. I had high expectations for it after reading some of the reviews and it exceeded it! I couldn't stop eating it and would gladly eat a giant tub of it (with chips of course). The pretzel was quite tasty as well and not overly salty like some other pretzels and the texture was very fresh. The cheese sauce that came with it was very light and meshed perfectly with the fluffy pretzel. The wedges were good but not as memorable as the other appetizers. Now I will talk about each pizza we got. You've been warned- my fiancé tried a bite of this and for a guy who has a crazy high tolerance for spicy stuff, even he was struggling a bit with how spicy it is! I didn't dare try it but sounds like you get your money's worth if you want your taste buds to burn off. Wild West: possibly my favorite one!! It may seem simple but the combination of all the ingredients was super tasty I ate it so quick. Praying that no one ate that last slice that's sitting in the fridge right now. Sky pilot: this one was fun. I've never had lamb sausage before and lamb is one of my favorite meat. This was a fun one. The cure: the prosciutto was crisp! Odells... great beer for 30+ years! I had always visited the brewery in Fort Collins and was yet to visit the brewhouses in Denver. Went to the Sloan's Lake brewhouse with a group of friends on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We enjoyed the rooftop bar that had a partial view of Sloan's Lake. The entire facility was very nice with two floors of indoor seating and the rooftop bar/garden. The rooftop has adequate seating for the large demand the place draws, and a wonderful touch was the water misters hung above the tables to cool down the area which added greatly to the enjoyment of the space. Onto the beer..."fantastic" as always! This location has a few unique beers of its own and to our parties' joyful surprise... beer slushies! Which were a great treat on a warm day. And for the non-alcoholic beer fans three different choices with a blonde ale loved by the NA folks in our party. Peach Stand Rambler was a fun summertime drink. 90 Schilling is a classic, best Amber ale imho! Only disappointment was the lack of EZ Street Wheat. As for the food it was simply awesome, far exceeding expectations for a brewery. We had various pizzas, wings, and salads - yes well-made salads. Again, food was fantastic. We spent an entire afternoon enjoying the frosty beverages, delicious food, and comfy/serene location. The taproom servers were mostly spectacular with exception of one gal that was a bit unfriendly but that was a small blip in an overall wonderful experience. Cool, clean, modern hangout spot in Sloan's Lake that's broken down into two buildings. Small parking lot and residential street parking can be limited at peak times, make sure to check the signage. The front building is more of a restaurant with TV's for sporting events and the back building is more of a tap house, though I think you can order food at both. I played Volo cornhole here during the cold months, even though space to play is kinda cramped. Make sure to check if they have a discount or special because the staff may not automatically dish it out. Otherwise prices are pretty standard. I pretty much only drink sour beers these days, and it's great that they always have a handful of choices on tap at all times. I like the classic Sippin' Pretty, which is a açai, guava, and elderberry sour with some pink sea salt for color. It's tart but rather balanced. Always found the staff to be cool and helpful, like when I can't decide on a beer, or when I forget my wallet on the bar top and they get it back to me - whoops! read more

Just got into town and decided to stop in for lunch! We enjoyed "the classic". The Classic is a traditional pepperoni pizza. Not just regular pepperoni either, cupped pepperoni! I loved that touch! The pizza crust both perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. The crust had a good flavor, the cheese was fresh and natural tasting. The cupped pepperoni was a little greasy but good. I sampled 5 beers from the fantastic bartender: sippin pretty(good taste), peach stand rambler(yum), funky vanilla selter (yuck), all pride (sour end), cosmic train sour (yuck). I enjoyed the peach rambler best and had 2! My husband stuck with the Perry St. Pilsner. The service was awesome. Experimental brewery that just brews trendy but not really good beer. They were actually really good when they first opened but the food went downhill and they basically have 14 hazy ipas on tap. Shame on you, Doug. My last ever time there the fire alarm went off while I was trying to soothe a tired infant. We were just feet from the alarm and I swear to God it ruined my hearing. We walked away from the food and beer, and in the chaos of a crying baby and a 103 degree F parking lot, decided to go home. I called the bar and the manager said we needed to close out our tab and pay for the food and drink we didn't get to finish. Shame. Shame. Shame. Odell Brewing was always one of my favorite breweries during my time living in Denver. They still do not distribute anywhere near my home in Ohio. When visiting Colorado now, one of the first things I typically do is find an Odell beer on draft somewhere. On our latest trip to Denver, we decided to check out their Sloan's Lake Brewhouse. This is a very casual spot with a great location with views of Sloan's Lake. Orders are placed at the bar. There is a great variety of beers including beers that are made in-house on their 10-barrel pilot brewhouse. I always start with their flagship IPA and go from there. My family and I split some food, starting with the chicken chopped salad. This featured Altius Farm's greens, oven-roasted chicken, bacon, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, and asiago cheese topped with honey mustard vinaigrette ($11). This was a pretty big salad, easily enough to share with a pizza. The dressing was really excellent! We also had the Margherita pizza ($16) and a kids cheese pizza ($8). The crust was pretty thin, but still managed to be chewy with a light char to it. The toppings were fresh and overall we enjoyed the pizza. Odell has awesome beer and the food at their Sloan's Lake Brewhouse was pretty solid. Easily worth a visit and I will return on a future trip to Denver. read more

Came for dinner with a few friends the other night. I had the hazy ipa which was decent. And we had a margarita pizza & the Diavola. Both were good and we ended up having leftovers. The diavola is pretty spicy which is expected based off the description but just in case any one is wondering. Service was pretty quick. We sat inside but there is a nice upstairs patio as well. You can't take dogs inside so you access the patio via the stairs on the northwest side of the building. The patio has a ton of seating and a great view of the lake. We were a little unsure of how the service on the patio works, so we ordered up at the bar. The staff was really nice and brought fresh water and a treat for my dog. We ordered 2 beers (peach stand rambler), a cheese pizza for the kids and my friend and I shared a pizza (sausage and olive) and the chicken chopped salad. The pizza is really tasty and the kids pizza was just as good as ours. The pizza is also a really good size for the price. The salad was good, but I thought a little small for $14.
