I think Pizzeria Leopold is my new favorite pizza place in the Denver area. And I'm looking forward to when I get to try more of their menu. Recently, my wife and I shared the following: - PWA Pizza - Italian Hero on Focaccia - Almond Cannoli I would gladly order all of them again. I think I liked the PWA Pizza more because I enjoy pizza more than a sandwich but the Italian Hero on Focaccia was one of the best Italian sandwiches I've ever had and it's because their Focaccia bread is incredibly good. I placed a to go order scheduled for pick up at a certain time. I waited at the restaurant an extra 20 to 30 minutes before I was able to get my order. Come to find out, they had accidentally burnt the pizza and had to remake it. And to make up for that, they asked if I wanted something and I opted to get the Almond Cannoli. I wish they had communicated that to me proactively instead of me having to ask what was going on but I really appreciated that they compensated me for my time. Much respect. read more

My husband and I stopped into Pizzeria Leopold for lunch on a weekday. Overall, the experience was okay. There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the service--it was fine, and we had no complaints there. We ordered the Marky-Marg pizza, and the pizza itself was really good. The toppings, sauce, and flavor were all enjoyable. Unfortunately, the crust was extremely burnt around the edges. It was so overcooked that neither of us could eat it, which was disappointing since a good crust is part of what makes a great pizza. The pizza had a lot of potential, and if the crust hadn't been so burnt, it would have been a much better experience. My experience at Pizzeria Leopold was a tale of two stories: great food and disappointing operations. Let's start with the food because that's what will likely bring me back. I ordered the Sausage Ricky pizza and the Turkey Pesto sandwich with the focaccia bread upgrade. The focaccia was absolutely the right call. The sandwich was well balanced with quality ingredients, and the bread was easily the star of the meal. The Sausage Ricky was also better than expected. Between the slightly sweet sauce, purple onions, sausage, and ricotta, every ingredient had a purpose and the combination worked really well. At $24 for the pizza and $10 for the sandwich before the bread upgrade, I felt like the quality matched the price. Where things fell short was the pickup experience. I placed my order online at 3:26 PM with an estimated pickup time of 4:45 PM. A turnaround time of over an hour for a pizza and sandwich felt longer than expected. When I arrived around 4:50 PM, another customer was already waiting to pick up his order. He ended up waiting several minutes while staff tried to locate it. Despite several employees working behind the counter and the restaurant being only about half full, neither of us were acknowledged when we walked in. The lack of greeting or communication made the pickup process feel disorganized from the start. Eventually, the employee managing the register helped us, and to his credit, he was friendly and clearly doing his best to juggle multiple responsibilities. There was some confusion with my order at first, and I was initially presented with someone else's order and asked for payment until I showed my confirmation email. A bit much....I have been coming to this location for over 30 years and although the new owners have made some nice changes to the location, they have gotten a little greedy in their pricing structure. Sorry but 17 bucks for a half sub and soda is a bit much. Furthermore, I wanted a Dragon Sub like I always got here , not a Focacia sandwich with dragon dressing. What a great spot! The place was banging out pizzas and there were tons of customers doing pick up orders. We grabbed a table and sat in the dining area. You don't have an assigned server but there are tons of staff roaming around making sure everyone has what they need. We got the focaccia and meat balls along with the wings as an appetizer. The bread was great and the red sauce and meatballs were delicious. I'd get that again for sure. The wings were huge! I liked the hot honey but what they called "buffalo" sauce wasn't for me. Nothing like any buffalo sauce I've ever had before, but they said it's new so I'm sure they're experimenting. We also got the sausage ricotta pizza and the sauce and topping were great. Absolutely incredible! Pizzeria Leopold did NOT disappoint! I had the turkey pesto, my husband had the 10" La Meat and the Italian Hero sandwich on focaccia, and of course we had to finish with a pistachio cannoli. We also shared the bread with oil and balsamic, and everything was SO good. The atmosphere was just as incredible as the food. You can tell everything is made fresh, essentially right in front of you, but the wait was still very reasonable. I also loved seeing the owner's family there, it really gave the restaurant such a warm, family-friendly feel. We came without the kiddos this time, but we'll absolutely be bringing them next time! So bummed. This used to be my favorite pizza spot, and I would go out of my way to get it. Now, it's inconsistent at best, sometimes has a weird taste like cleaning supplies, and takes forever. I've been wanting to try this place for some time. It has many positive reviews. Well this review will be positive but not 5 stars. The restaurant itself is not big and has under 10 tables for patrons. It is what it claims to be a pizzeria! By and large you are looking at either a pizza or a sandwich though they do have appetizers. I must admit the pizzas are quite good. I had a pepperoni and mushroom pizza and it was full of flavor so kudos for that. Another ar our table had a fungi pizza and it also was quite tasty. This pizzeria joint is pretty good! You can get wings so that's also a plus. However we did get a sandwich with focaccia bread but the bread slices were large and drowned out the meat. My spouse had the dip sandwich and from what I could see the food between the slices was sparse. She left hungry and a bit overwhelmed by the focaccia bread slices. Seating was eclectic and we sat on metal chairs that my older body did not care for. Overall I do love the pizza but not sure about the rest. It is worth trying if you are in the area especially if you like pizza. And in the future I might try another sandwich just to see if a different sandwich might be great! read more

I'm not an expert on many things in life, but an Italian sandwich is my last meal. This one is a strong contender for one of the best on this side of town. A message to management. Your bakery seems perfectly fine. I ordered a sandwich because I was pleasantly surprised with the bread that came with the meatballs. If your baguettes are old/stale just say so. I couldn't eat the bread. You guys obviously know bread. Why offer something you know is bad. Once I got to eat the food in my car, it was delicious. But the customer service defensiveness about abysmal communications was appalling. I drove in from Erie on my friend's lunch break. It was his birthday, and that's where he wanted to go. He ordered a chicken Parmesan sandwich. I ordered the 14" inch fungi bunch. His sandwich came out. The waiter then said, "your pizza is in the oven." So my friend ate his sandwich increasingly slowly, thinking my food would be out in any minute. After almost 10 minutes, I asked a woman if the pizza was coming out and she said yes, but admittedly without checking with anyone. I waited yet longer. I finally went over to the pizza oven and asked them to cancel it. I was told and could see it had just come out. I considered it a 15 minute gap they considered it a 10 minute gap. Regardless, the professional thing would have been to manage our expectations at the time of the order. Such logical options would have been: 1) "Your pizza will take much longer than the sandwich. Would you like us to bring them out at the same time or as they are ready?" (given that serving people conspicuously dining together at approximately the same time is standard, this would have seemed very obvious.) 2) "Do you have at least 45 minutes since we pride ourselves in making our pizzas to order, and it will take about 30 minutes?" 3) When my friend was served his sandwich saying, "Your pizza is in the oven, but it will be about another 10 minutes or so. Thanks for your patience." Instead, our waiter and a staff member double down on it being 10 minutes vs. it taking 15 minutes to cook from the time the sandwich was served, as if I was supposed to know that through some past time dining there, first-hand pizza making experience, or mind reading, none of which I have. Did they apologize or just get defensive, as if serving me unexpectedly 10 minutes later than my friend versus 15 was the issue? The latter. Did they offer to get me something else or take anything off the bill? Neither. Did they say "oh it's your friend's birthday, please come back another time, and we'll make it right?" No. So my advice would be to ask clarifying questions about being served at the time to ensure you can actually enjoy your time eating together -- and not in the car. read more
