Bar hopping night!! Odin blew my expectations right out of the park. First glance I thought it would be your average bar with a slight food menu. Not at all. We ordered the espresso Negroni and the best margarita in the world (spicy). The Negroni was probably my favorite, and I'm not a fan. Usually my hubby orders one whenever available and I can't say I would try. However, the espresso Negroni was so, tasty. I watch our bar tender make it and I knew the pour was not average I had to try it. ‍ worth every drop! My drink was great, but the Negroni was just so good. The place smell heavenly, reminds me of my hometown. The food; we had the fundido and guacamole, both just really, really good. Fresh ingredients in the guacamole and topping was salsa seca, a less oily version of salsa macha. The salsa has peanuts so, be aware when you order. Our bar tender took our request and allergy serious please be aware they use certain ingredients that may cause allergies . Our fundido was also very good, mushrooms, potatoes and spices with home made tortillas. If you want a variety of mezcal and great recommendations head to Odin. Our mezcal experience was amazing and highly recommend this place. Try 5 sentidos shot you won't regret the tamarind after taste. Nice restaurant with great service and good food. I liked the mocktail tequila sunrise ($8) and 2 carne asada tacos ($19). The hibiscus syrup was the right balance of sweet and mild flavors, which I appreciate since I find mocktails at other places to be overly sweet... maybe to make up for the lack of alcohol? This place struck a good balance with their mocktail. Anyways, the beef in the tacos was tender and the tortillas were soft and hand made. Appetizers were shared but portions are on the smaller side so if you're sharing, you'll get a taste but not a true portion. Overall, I liked the food but if I want tacos for a better price, I'd honestly opt for tacos at a local Oakland taco truck... but this is a nice spot to hit up with friends to catch up. Came here for Cinco De Mayo and it was nice. The food was really good! The queso fundido was really yummy. I loved all the chunks of mushrooms. I loved that it was a nice non pork chorizo. I loved the tacos with ahi tuna on top. Really delicious and flavorful. Shrimp tacos are yummy! I absolutely loved the welcome drink when we first sat at the bar. I wasn't a huge fan of the service. Our food came out a bit slow and I thought it was maybe because of the cinco de mayo crowd. Fair enough. Pipicha ponzu fish ceviche potato tacos - 9/10 fried crispy potato tacos and halibut ceviche. I do give the edge to the tuna ceviche and the black bean tacos though! Those are 10/10. Sweet corn esquites with seared scallops - 8/10. Smaller plate. Comes with three scallops and three chips. Esquites were spot on, chips were fresh made and super crispy. Scallops were cooked well, solid sear but a bit of room for improvement. Pork chilorio quesadilla - 7/10. Generous portion of meat which was well cooked and tender. This was too salty though. Had a layer of cheese which had nice crispy edge but was very salty combined with the salted seasoned meat. It needed a bit more acid (only one lime wedge for the whole quesadilla) and wish it had spicy salsa to cut through the heaviness. See my note below. Ayer hoy y manana - nice herbal note from the fernet. Well balanced. Flavors are very good and authentic! EXCEPT it lacks spicy. Like every dish I've had this time and past times. But after a few minutes it seemed as if she had forgotten and my taco was getting cold so I finished it and maybe 10 minutes later she came. My friend and I were overdue for a hangout session, and Odin was the perfect middle ground. Walking in, I was immediately captivated by the decor. It's giving sultry and sophisticated vibes. The decorations were thoughtfully displayed and I couldn't believe the hand chair. Service was a bit iffy. Although our server attempted to be attentive, he didn't seem very helpful, and it felt rushed. Nevertheless, the food and drinks were quite satisfying. Beautiful restaurant with a bar full of tequila bottles! Service was great! We were check on a lot. Everything on the menu sounded amazing! From the cocktails to the appetizers to the entrees and desserts. To drink I had the Abajo Uno, Arriba Dos - fruity and refreshing. My second drink was Esa Sensación de las 2:30. Looked strong but it was a little too sweet. For appetizers, we ordered: Guacamole - Smooth and creamy, got a kick! Mushroom Chorizo Queso Fundido - Delicious!!! The homemade corn tortillas complement this cheese dip so well! Chicken Wings - Tasty, spicy, and sooo good! For our entrees, my hubby and I shared: Fish Ceviche tacos - Wow! This was incredible. My friend and I really like mezcal and we came here to become more educated about it. On one of my last visits, I'd purchased a book that they sell that includes the mezcal's they've available to try. I used this to do some studying prior to our visit. On this visit, I decided to focus on mezcal's from Oaxaca. We picked San Bartolo Mezcal Espadin and Dixeene Espadin. Both were excellent! The San Bartolo stood out for its smoothness. Though the Dixeene was not as smooth, it stood out for its very bright flavors. As we were there during happy hour, we also had their margarita type cocktail, La Maxima, which had both tequila and mezcal. I really enjoyed this! For food we did the both the shrimp and the beef tacos. Super tasty and very filling. I especially liked the cut up, tender pieces of pablano! The service was excellent and very helpful. Maybe we came on a bad day, but we thought the food was just okay. I do think we got unlucky because there was a big group the night we came, and it felt like the kitchen couldn't keep up with the orders. We waited at least 40 minutes for the first dish, then each subsequent dish also had a significant wait. Took a while to get our drinks even, to start, after ordering. The mezcal taster shot they give you at the beginning was nice though. We then asked our server for recommendations. Drinks were ok, a bit watery. Ambiance is really dim (see photos), so it's a bit hard to see. Regardless, I thought the food was a tad bland. The mushroom queso fundido didn't have much flavor honestly. Cheesy, but somehow still bland. $15 Shrimp Alambre Tacos: not quite what I expected - the sauce was quite sweet and sour reminiscent. The corn tortilla tasted fresh and good, but just overall wasn't mind-blowing. $18 Trout Empanada: I was excited for this because it's quite unique, but I just didn't like it all that much. It was very fried, not much flavor that stood out. $24 Overall, okay food... but has a bigger variety of tequila and mezcal than average. read more

The food, oh my Lanta. The food.. Incredible! Here is what we ordered: - Creamy sweet corn Esquite 11/10 seriously! - Mushroom Chorizo Queso Fundido 10/10 - Chicken Wings 7/10 my boyfriend really enjoyed them tho, to each their own. - Mole Coloradito Chicken Quesadilla 8/10 - Sautéed Shrimp Alambre Tacos 9/10 I devoured these. Our server started us off with the flight, 3 different mezcal's (with our favorite being Tuku Savi, which had notes of the clay pot it was made it) My huarachito was so unique! I'm personally someone that doesn't like to try veggie versions of foods because I can be easily disappointed, but the "mushroom al pastor" on the hurachito was so good! I didn't even miss the meat. My gf had the quesadilla with mole which she liked. Smokey, earthy flavors of the mole tied the plate very well. You know the sexy older brother of the neighbor who liked you when you were a kid? Well, this is that. Nidos' sexy older brother and a neighborhood gem like no other. The ambiance sets the vibe, the drinks compliment it, and the food.... my goodness. It's the reason I keep coming back. Now, I've been coming here for a while, so I've tried a little bit of everything but my favorite is the Beef Asada tacos. The tortilla, the fried cheese, the salsa and guac mix.... *chefs kiss.* My second favorite thing to order is the Mushroom Chorizo Queso. This is literally the best Queso I've ever had and this is California, we eat A LOT of Mexican food. My favorite dessert here is the Mexican Chocolate Pot de creme. I just love it. The texture is so smooth and creamy and just delicious. Once of my favoritest (i made that up) things about this restaurant is the customer service. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. I've never waited more than two minutes to order, literally... even when it is packed. Full disclosure, this place can be a bit pricey, but for the quality (vibe, food, service)...... Wow this was an amazing experience! Chef Ramos really knows what he's doing in the kitchen. We ordered: 1. Guacamole; this was not your usual guacamole and it was an interesting twist giving off lots of different flavor profiles in every bite. The potato tacos were a good addition too. However, the chips that came with the guacamole were a little too hard for my liking and I would've preferred a slightly more chunky guacamole (just to get more of the avocado flavor). Rating: 8/10 2. Chicken wings; the perfect CRUNCHY wings with a kick of spice. The sauces paired extremely well with the chicken and gave a cooling effect on the pallet from the spice. I do wish the chip toppings were a little crunchier. Rating: 8.5/10 3. For the entrees, we got the chicken Mole quesadilla and the smoked trout empanadas - I'll be dreaming about these ... that's how good it was. Each dish took you on a journey of different flavor profiles, while still maintaining the perfect balance. I'll definitely be coming back for these two. Rating: 11/10. 4. Most unprofessional service and insulting This was one of the worst service experiences I've had in Oakland. The waiter poured me a shot and left the bottle on our table -- with maybe half a shot left in it. Like any normal person, I assumed that was either part of the pour or something I could finish and be charged for if needed. The moment I poured the small amount that was left, the waiter came back and loudly accused me of "stealing" in front of everyone. Completely unprofessional and honestly embarrassing. Then it gets worse -- I was charged for 4 shots over what was realistically less than a full shot. That doesn't feel like standard practice, it feels like being taken advantage of. If you're going to treat customers like that, at least be clear upfront. Don't leave a nearly empty bottle on the table and then publicly accuse someone when they reasonably assume it's part of their order. Between the false accusation and the excessive charge, this felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a trap. I won't be coming back, and I'd strongly caution others about how they handle billing and customer interactions here. read more

I've been meaning to check out Odin for a while, and I'm so glad I finally did. Walking in , the place was warm and welcoming and had some awesome art on the walls. We were greeted and sat pretty quickly after arriving and were treated to a guava and mezcal taster alongside our appetizer. We also ordered some margaritas which were great. The staff were all super friendly and had great timing. Nothing felt rushed as we took our time to order and eat. My favorite thing we tried was the chicken quesadilla. I was surprised by how substantial it was because it didn't look like a huge amount of food, but they packed it full. We tried both of the desserts because we couldn't decide and while the flan was really good, the pot de creme stole the show. It was such a a perfect combo of silky chocolate, tart fruit, and not-too-sweet cream--I'd come back just for that. read more

A hidden gem! Right across from Shell, it's easy to spot Odin. The ambiance is cozy and relaxing when you walk in. The food though is the real reason I'm writing a review.. and we did not have a bad dish while here. We got the Queso Fundido, Huarachito, Quesadilla and Pot de Creme while here. First time here. Has a nice mellow dim vibe. Food is ok. Not really a big fan of Mescal. The chips and salsa are ok, but I'm not a fan of the thicker tooth cracking hard tortilla chips. For the main dish, I had the empanada. Not bad but not memorable. The vibe is nice and the service is good but the food didn't seem that great given the prices. Been here a couple of times and while there are some bites that I've enjoyed more than others, I can't ever say that I've had a bite that I did not like. Also the bites have always had something new and depth to them that I appreciate. I typically make my way to Odin for special meals (i.e. restaurant week, guest mazcaleros etc.) so maybe that is why I usually find that I've spent more than I anticipated going in but also it could be because their drinks are just that good and you can't just stop at one because you want to try another and then another and so on. It is also neat that they're focus is mezcal which I don't thing is typical of the area. Staff is friendly. Decor and ambiance is artsy, I've always found parking around the corner. In my experience, it's usually on the darker side and while it's not necessarily a romantic vibe, I think it could be a really dope spot for a first date. read more

Met with a friend afterwork for drinks and it was such a cute spot, very intimate setting so I would go there for a date next time and not with my girlies because you can hear peoples conversations since the seating is a bit close. Ambiance is dimly, candlelit, earthy Mexican decor all throughout the joint; one can sense the commitment to Mexican culture throughout the entire restaurant, in the server-ware, pillows, art and even details in the bathroom. The bar menu is extensive and will keep us coming back, because there is so much to try. Some of our favorite mezcal crafters are on the menu such as 5 Sentidos, Bozal and La Luna. The Odin house tequila, sotol, and mezcals are flavorful, easy on the palette and an excellent introduction to Mexican influenced craft cocktails. My honey and I love everything about Odin, because mezcal is our absolute favorite and we often get drinks at craft cocktail spots while dining elsewhere. 4 stars because the food is good but not wow-worthy. The menu consists of items that are great to help soak up the booze, however largely consists of glorified tacos, while they are an excellent compliment for the drinks they are not anything to write home about. With that being said, the Quesito Fundido is worth trying and the guac is nice (though I'd absolutely expect more for the price). Anyway, the bar and the kitchen are separate-symbiotic establishments, so I'd give 5 stars to the former and 4 to the latter. Either way, I'm a regular now :) read more

My partner and I have been wanting to come since we saw Odín open and finally made it in for Restaurant Week! We got lucky and for a Friday night we where able to be seated quickly. The owner was the host and very friendly and even enjoyed a laugh or two as we waited which you don't get to experience offer. After being seated we where offered a welcome drink which I don't remember the name but it had a good kick. I saw the reviews where everyone said the drink menu was large. But if you look closely it's not just a drink menu it gives you a look at the owners family with personal picture and the different agave they use. Also the ingredients in your drink and even the glass it will come in. Paloma 4.5/5 and a little spicy kick that hits the back of your throat after that 3rd sip Margarita 5/5 Food- was good have no complaints the queso was give very cheesy you get 4 tortillas to pair with but we also asked for chips Relleno tacos 5/5 bomb from looks to flavors all pair well Ceviche Taco 5/5 the potato taco warm and yummy but then they add the ceviche with the cold balance and just right amount of lime and spicy. But wait they add avocado that you can see and taste. Service- for a Friday night was busy busy so I understand but our waiter had a lot going. He was very friendly. Terrible service. Would not recommend at all. I would say avoid at all costs. The server left a bottle of Mezcal at our table, it had less than half a shot in there. We thought that he had left it there because there was so little left in there that it was just like a gesture as great service for us to finish the bottle. We poured it, again i will emphasize there was half a shot left and the guy started screaming at us that we were trying to steal and then he charged us for 4 shots and continued saying we tried to steal. We were so mad that we paid and left but THEY DEFINITELY STOLE FROM US. I am in disbelief at the experience we had. I have never in my life been this shocked and could have ever imagined that this could even be possible in the service industry.
