Great beers, lovely setting, nice view of the Chicago skyline. What more could you ask for? I was here on a lovely late summer Saturday and the patio was perfect. I appreciate the self-service aspect and do not miss having a server here. Oh yeah, the beers... it should be evident from the name that most of these beers aren't for everyone. They lean toward funky and creative, so come with an open mind. If you're only into Bud Light, you may want to look elsewhere. But they are well executed and delicious. read more

I spent a good chunk of the evening at Goose Island Brewhouse and was recommended to also go check out Off Color Mousetrap just a few blocks away. We walked to Off Color from Goose Island which is about a five block or so walk. Off Color was very busy when we got there, but we were able to snag some bar seats. The inside is very industrial with exposed brick was gave it a cool vibe. They have quite the assortment of beverages including cocktails which is a nice touch for the non-beer drinkers that get dragged to breweries because everyone else enjoys a good beer. Anyways, I tried the Reine Des Renards. The description for it fascinated me and it was very delicious and not your ordinary stout or IPA style beer, so that was nice. My significant other had a cocktail, but I do not remember which one she had. She definitely raved about it the entire time we were there. Overall, I will definitely be checking this place out in the future. I wish I divided my time up better between Goose Island and here, but I have never been Goose before. I guess that's my fault! Off color has a great atmosphere and beer selection. They are one of my favorite Chicagoland breweries because their artwork has the same level of detail as the beer! The taproom is BYOF (Bring your own food) with options to have delivery there. Parking is very easy and the staff is very helpful in helping you decide your next beer. Maybe the first brewery where I like almost every beer made and on draft. I lean towards lighter Belgians and Saison beers. Apex Predator has been one of my favs, so it was delightful to be able to try all the hybrids and sister beers in one setting. You can also purchase a fair amount of the stuff on draft in a 4pack bottle to take home. They don't have their own kitchen, but you can order food from Taco Joint via a touchscreen and it will be delivered to your table for free. You can also just BYOF (bring your own food). My only qualm is that they do not have flights, so you have to commit to a larger pour for each thing you want. There is a patio. Been twice in two weeks, and I will return for a third time !!! Ace location and space as well as cool, friendly staff. Off Color's focus is mainly on farmhouse ales and fruitier beers almost to the sour side of the spectrum so if you like that, you'll love their selection. Im ok w this style just don't love it, so take that into consideration w my 3-star rating. Visiting Chicago from Philadelphia, Off Color was high on our list of things to do after falling in love with Dino S'mores. We couldn't have had a better time daydrinking on vacation while at the Mousetrap one Friday afternoon. The bartenders were spectacular. We tried an early release for free, and were given generous pours as we worked our way through wild ale after wild ale and adored all of it. Not sure when I'll be back to Chicago, but Off Color is absolutely on the list for a return visit. Looking forward to seeing more of their brews distributed east. This place has interesting stuff and the staff seems passionate about the brews/happy to answer questions. They do have a kiosk to order food inside but I couldn't find stuff otherwise about them serving food. Nice indoor seating as well as outdoor seating (dog friendly, of course). My friend's have been raving about Off Color for ages. But I'd never had any of the beer. So when we were in the area and had time to kill, I was like "Sure, let's check them out." I wasn't in love with this place. I've been to a lot of breweries over the past few summers so I know what I like and I know what I don't. And it's not that I hated any of the beer - it's just I'd had better. Their stout was too heavy, their gose wasn't sour enough, and their farmhouse ale was just ... uninteresting. I also didn't love the space. Really industrial vibe with exposed beams and steel everywhere. Which I hate for breweries because when it's crowded, you aren't going to be able to hear the person next to you. I loved the light fixtures though. Never thought I'd write a review commenting on the light fixtures but those were great. Whoever made that decision has excellent taste. read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while, and I want to say it was amazing. Unfortunately it was not 5 star worthy as I had hoped. The beers were okay. not knock-my-socks-off impressive. I HAD to try the Dino S'mores and YES- by far my favorite. I then tried the barrel aged Dino smores, which was good, but not as good as the original one. Wife tried a few others and ended up deciding on Growl- only because the other beers she tried were just okay. It did grow on her though. While there aren't flights (bummer), the bartender let us try a number of them. We'll be back when Scurry makes a return for sure. That's really why we went, but realized it's seasonal. There is just something off with Off Color Brewing. It is probably the many lost non-IPA beer recipes they are creating while the rest of the craft beer industry is still making IPA's including cloudy New England style IPA's. Lead by John Laffler and Dave Bleitne both creating some amazing beers before Reinheitsgebot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot) with a beer background that you would want your brewmaster to have. The attention to detail of the tap room is amazing. With some subtle hidden ques including a hidden grain mouse in the ceiling to some detailed tile art. Far from a hipster bar and more like a cool place to hang with friends. There are no kitchen but you can bring your own food (BYOF), UberEATS, DoorDash, or GrubHub a meal. There is no judgement here. Everything Off Color available is here including merch. You can also bring some Off Color beers home already pre-chilled for your pleasure. There are guest taps that will be rotating. Passion House Coffee is also served for the non-adventurous day drinker or your DD. There are also cocktails for your non-beer drinkers too. Look for Off Color Sake coming soon... Random stop in to check out their Pumpkin beer (SO GOOD). Staff is awesome... extremely nice and helpful. Tap room has plenty of choices on tap and to go along with a few other brewers available. Great patio area and large seating area inside. Definitely will come back! read more

Great brewery with some awesome sours! Highly recommend Spots for a tart sour or Yuzu Fierce for a more farmhouse/saison sour. They have a kiosk you can order amazing shawarma and hummus that is delivered directly to your table while your drinking. read more

I don't use Yelp for detailed beer reviews, so I'm not getting in to a blow-by-blow account of each beer I had, but it is not hard to see the care and concern that goes in to brewing. A wonderful pilsner, a fantastic farmhouse, and a table beer (!!). All well-above par. The staff we interacted with were attentive, friendly, funny, and seemed to really be having a great time working there. As a bonus: you can bring your own food or, as we did, order in! Pizza delivered to the bar while I drink great beer? Heck, yes! If you're a beer nerd in Chicago this is a must-visit. She Said: We made the two-mile walk from our hotel to Off Color, and we are so happy we did. We had plans to go back out for their Halloween party, but after a too-late night the evening before the holiday, followed by an afternoon of brewery-hopping in the snow, we weren't up to making our way back out. This place does not want to operate and does not want your business... rode bikes on self made Sunday eve brewery tour and arrived in the evening when it was open for nearly another hour and there were at least 10 open tables. Nope - "we're all booked for tonight folks" (moose out front should've told ya). WTF?! Told them we are just stopping for one drink, and the retort was you need to use the online reservation system - even when no one is here??? All time favorite brewery in Chicago. Large inside and a pretty great outside patio area as well. Amazing selection of beers on draft, everything is delicious. Only downfall is that the inside smelled like tires, but luckily the patio was nice and open the day I went. Will definitely be coming back here! read more

My husband and I love trying new breweries and we were disappointed with this one. The in- and exterior is really cute. Seems like a pretty new establishment. The beer was tasty and I liked the "Shorty & A Shot" options. I would recommend they add some games for additional entertainment but otherwise I definitely suggest going there. read more

Attended a special event that Off Color presented in conjunction with Allagash Brewing (ME). Terrific variety including guest beers from local brewers. Off Color specializes in saison/sours but has the chops to brew top notch stouts and other esoteric and innovative styles across the whole spectrum of beer geekdom. a group of us came into this bar about five minutes before last call and ordered a large order of beers. we were enjoying our beers when the bartender started screaming at the top of her lungs for everyone to get out of the bar 10-15 minutes before official closing at midnight. I understand last calls. I understand giving people a heads up that the bar is closing in 15. But being abrasively, aggressively yelling at your patrons for ten minutes straight and physically forcing them of the bar 5 minutes before closing (and being told that "that's how bar works" when our group included a bartender* and a brewery owner), was incredibly bad business. People who were working did not seem in the right mind to actually have customers and they will lose more business despite their decent beers. People don't deserve to be treated that way, especially when PATRONIZING an establishment. *said bartender works at a craft beer shop in LA that also closes at midnight on weekends. Never in five years working there has he seen this kind of behavior. read more

Stopped into Mousetrap after catching an improve show at iO Chicago Theatre and was really glad I did! Tried several of the beers of which I loved ALL of them. My favorite was The One Percent, so delicious. They don't have a lot of hoppy forward beers, which is def ok with me! The flavors on the ones that I tried were on point! This was my first time at Off Color's tap room and it was great! The outdoor patio in the front and back were covered and lovely.

Came after work on a Friday, nice venue, it was easy to find parking. There's outside patio seating. They don't serve food, but there is a scroll menu that will deliver thru grub hub or one of those food delivery services. Prices are reasonable an 8oz pour is like $4 and 13oz is $6. Since the beers I had were potent, I stuck with the 8oz and was very satisfied. Unlike most breweries, they will make mixed drinks for non-beer drinkers. My absolute fav is the Apex Predator and after visiting here my second love is the Growl 8 oz for $7. I'll be back, didn't get my passport stamped, lol. read more

Very cool to see another craft brewery open a taproom in Chicago, I've seen their bottles all over, but this just opened in November. They have most the beers I've seen them bottle, plus some new ones and some guest taps, plus a few domestic bottles. Lotta space, and convenient location not far from North/Clyborn red line and New City complex and on the same street as the Whole Foods in Lincoln Park. It was pretty packed when I went, but granted it was the first week it opened. Personally, the only downside is no IPAs/pale ales, but oh well, I'm always able to still find something to drink. Will def recommend to other craft beer enthusiasts in the city. read more

An interesting place with interesting beers... we were lured in by the big mouse on the wall. By some grace of god, I found a parking spot right in front on a Saturday so it only seemed appropriate to check out the selection! The menu was intricate... each beer had a long description which made narrowing down your selection a lengthy process (sometimes a girl just wants to be able to scan and pick her favorite beer style in a matter of seconds!). Overall, the beer was interesting and good but a bit pricey. I don't mind paying a premium for good beer but this place might have taken it a bit too far/trendy for the premium. read more

"Do simple better" - Joe Maddon This place needs to take the manager's words to heart. There was a wide variety of brews on tap, but most were takeoffs on Belgian styles brewed with various tropical fruits. They were executed reasonably well, but the lack of old standbys brewed to perfection makes this place a 3 on quality. Ambiance - not the greatest. The space in the taproom is quite large and underutilized. There needs to be more seating and a beer hall atmosphere in a space of the size. Also, the music was absolutely blaring. read more

We gave this place two chances and were disappointed both times. The first time we walked up in the Fall and asked to be seated and they had most of the tables open and said we needed a reservation and sent us away...which was off color to me. This second time we tried to reserve a table but the website was confusing and we accidentally reserved two tables instead of one which was $55. There was no one there today as its supposed to snow but they did offer to hold us to only one table...which was good. We decided to have draft beers there which were $18 for a caraffe each. We then decided to take the rest to go. The server tried to explain that the same product was a different price if you drank it there on the patio or took it out...which absolutely made no sense. The menus had the wrong prices or were the wrong menus because we walked out paying over $125 for 3x 4-pks and 1x 20oz beer. Needless to say we felt taken advantage of and mousetrapped. They need to streamline their process like some of the other breweries we frequent in the area. read more
