    West Coast Sound
    Steve A.

Got some beers from this popular brewery. Hop Butcher For The World has become one of the hipster hangouts in North Center. It has an ever increasing amount on tap. Also plenty to go in cans to have for later. There's more places getting it so it must be highly regarded. Chill location in kind of a hipster area. It's not quite as bad as some of the places around it can get. This is more of a place for analyzing and sipping. A lot of interesting choices for names. It's about $7 a pint. Actually not bad for craft beers. The best we had of these was The West Coast Sound. It's a West Coast Pilsner. There's peachy notes that are sweet. Bad thing is there's no food. They let you make orders like pizza. Has a lot of variety so you have to keep coming to try everything they got. It's closed Mondays. There's no food but they let you bring in stuff.

Place is Super cute! The old aged wood, store & the staff is super chill and helpful. The beer selection is our cup of tea! Major Kudos to the brewer of these IPAS because they are amazing! Super delicious. We tried 9 different beers and all were great. All the 10.5% beers do not taste like 10.5abv so that was another huge plus! If you love Hazy's like we do, this will be your jam! The hazys were spectacular! We love beers and brewery's are our thing so, this was our favorite beer stop on this trip! The girl at the merch area with glasses was not so friendly but idk maybe she's just having a bad day. Still though, be nice homegirl! If we ever come back to Chicago, we will come by! :)

If you're in any way a hop head, get over here. These guys know what's happening. Smaller taproom with long tables and benches. It was quiet when I went in but this would be a great space to meet new people, I suspect.

I first heard about Hop Butcher For The World when they released an honorary brew for famed meteorologist Tom Skilling - that was a darn good beer! My lovely wife and I finally stopped into Hop Butcher on a weeknight for a drink before attending a show in the area. Our server was kind to us even though we were one and done, and even served us a full pitcher of water. I enjoyed my tangy Cherry Cyclone milkshake IPA, while my love enjoyed her IPA pour. We'd love to come back here with friends.

I happened to be in the area, so I was happy to check out the tap room. If you love ipas, then hop butcher is definitely worth your visit. On the day of my visit, they didn't have many other options. My husband ended up trying a milkshake ipa that he actually liked. What is super awesome is that they offer multiple sizes of their pours. Inside is a little cramped, but service is friendly.

Great Beers & Outstanding staff! Hop Butcher makes incredible beers. They have a deep IPA line up with westys and neipas. Single to Triple. A few lighter pilsners and lagers. Plus a dark stout or two. I tried about 12 4oz pours and everything was premium. The last one was a triple IPA and probably my favorite. Sylvia was my beertender and was SUPERB. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Nick the manager was a hoot! A happier man you will not find. Enthusiasm & Joy overflowing. Tap room is cool. Cement bar, wood tables and benches. Two different areas plus a take out room. Many many cans to go + merch.

This place has been a great addition to the neighborhood ever since they moved in. The beer is great and they've accumulated a huge selection of strong, happy beers. There's even a few light beers available, if that's your thing. No food, but there is a merch store attached with a lot of good options. Parking is usually easy around the corner on the side streets.

There is no doubt that Hop Butcher is one of, if not the most exciting craft beer joint in Chicago. Their selection is ever changing and never boring. They know what they're doing and they do it better than everybody. Their marketing deserves recognition but unlike quite a few other trendy craft beer makers, it is what's inside the can that makes the product so special. Much love for Hop Butcher and all that they do to bring good beer into our pint glasses.

Wow! What a selection!...and beers bursting with scrupulously combined hops! This place has a steady flow of patrons and the sit down table service for beer ordering was a new twist for us! Keep it up Hop Butcher For The World! Loved the wood plank walls!

An awesome brewery putting out some top notch beers that I started to experience a few years ago. Great that they now have a location and any beer enthusiast or connoisseur needs to have this on their places to stop. Great staff as well and a nice kick back spot right there off the main street area. Highly recommend, and decent locations around if you need to get food as well.

Been a longtime fan of the brewery since moving to Chicago and learning about them in 2017. A team of really good people, along with an expert artist, working together to put out arguably the best hazies in the midwest. I'll start with the beer. If you're a hazy IPA fan, you've hit the jackpot - tons of great offerings. Missed the Thursday can drop? No problem, their latest releases are usually available on draft for at least a week. An assortment of size options at a better-than-the-competition price point. They've also begun really trying to dial in their non-hazy offerings, some solid pilsners and west coast styles, as well as a burgeoning barrel-aged program which, in its infancy, is producing some very good stuff. Their taproom was a longtime coming, finally opening at the end of 2022. There are a few touches of Dan Grzeca's art on the walls, otherwise, if you squint, you might think you're still at the old Half Acre taproom, which occupied this space for the better part of a decade. And, despite the friendly, knowledgable, and fast service, that is one of my biggest issues with the space. There simply isn't any atmosphere, nothing to really make you feel like you're in a special place, or Hop Butcher's home. I appreciate the nod of respect to Half Acre, but this feels more like a pop up in their home, rather than its own thing. Lower the lighting, perhaps, a few more flourishes. It can get very loud with only a handful of people in there, and lately it has rarely been packed, which I can only imagine speaks to the lack of an overall experience. They've recently taken a step in the right direction by opening up "The Oasis," essentially the garage in between the bottle shop and the taproom. They did a nice job with this, and is the kind of unique feel you want when you visit a place as acclaimed as they are for their beer. I feel like with a more exciting space and experience, I would be here all the time. As it is, the beer is too good and it is in such a convenient location that I still find myself here once or twice a month.

Finally a HB tap room for enjoying some of their offerings. It was crazy busy but staff were friendly to squeeze us in and they came back to check on us and deliver us more beer. They offer 5 oz, 10 oz and 12/16 oz of most beers on draft. The shop next store to the tap room sells shirts and cans and growlers and they close earlier than the tap room. They currently only offer glass growlers (not crowlers yet). I was sad they only sell full 4 packs so no mix and match or single cans sales. However there is a Bottles and Cans liquor store up the street that carries some Hop Butcher and other craft beers you can buy by the can. Note this tao room is about 6 miles from downtown but you can take ride share or the brown line to Montrose and a safe walk to the location.

They played good music and wasn't too loud. You could easily carry on a conversation or , like me, continue listening to a podcast. By the time I finished, the place was completely full and a bit noisy, but not bad. I started out with a 10oz Birds of Prey Pilsner. It was very nice. Light and crisp and very easy to drink. I followed that up with Melodious Maibock and ordered the CBG burger with fries. I didn't have lunch so I dove right in and forgot to snap a photo. It was a very good smash burger. It was cooked well and I really liked the combination of pickled onion and caramelized onion. I didn't see it until later but you can add bacon. As much as I loved this burger, bacon would totally take it up a notch! I started chatting with the bartender about their different beers and decided to have the Super Melodious Jalapeño Maibock with the burger. It's soooo different, but in a good way. It paired so well with the burger. You get green bell pepper on the nose and a hint of it on the palate. When you swallow you get a little heat at the back of the throat. It was so good! Great bar. Great food. Great beer. Go check them out!

Bar service can get a little backed up depending on how crowded the place is...one time I was there, the bar was so crowded that I couldn't flag down a server long enough to place a food order so, before I left, I placed my food order to go using the mobile route. Whatever, I didn't care. I'm pretty chill. Anyway, burger was still good when I walked it back to my hotel. When the place isn't slammed, service is like night and day and the place is a bit more quiet. Pop on in if you want to try some good beer, a tasty burger or other pub fare.

Pretty great for craft beers compared to lots of places it seems. Best one we got was the Bucket Hat. This is a Belgian style witbier. Has notes of bubble gum, coriander, and orange. The food isn't an afterthought so get some of that. It's about $18 for a burger. Vegans have options. Certainly one of these is the Veggie Burger. This is an amazing thing with a spinach patty topped with chipotle tomato marmalade, cremini mushrooms, mixed greens, pickled red onions, and sweet potatoes. All on a fluffy ciabatta bun.
