Off Color is our favorite Chicago brewery hands down- from some of their classic beers offered all the time to their constantly rotating collection of new and delicious things to try, we couldn't recommend Off Color enough. We love stopping by for a pint on their two outdoor patios, or inside when Chicago weather is not its best. We recently had a small party there and their staff was so accommodating and wonderful to us- it was such a fun way to share a favorite place of ours with family and friends. read more

Relaxed taproom next to Goose Island! This brewery is mouse themed. They have all kinds of artwork around here relating to rodents. I wonder what their grain looks like? Fortunately, their dog, Hops keeps things under control. He's such a good dog. One of his jobs is to bork at the mice. Their beers are fantastic. They have a lot of darker beers and some sours. However, when I went, I made the mistake of going for their most popular beers, when I should've been going for their rarer, more seasonal beers. After I went, I found Off Color Brewing's beers at the Whole Foods down the street, for a fraction of the cost of a pour at the taproom. If hitting this place up on a Goose Island-area beer crawl, check out the Whole Foods down the street as well. The taproom is long, and they have plenty of seating indoors and out. Their patio doesn't offer nearly enough shade, but it's nice. When I went, it was pretty laid back, there weren't many people there, and things were quiet and laid back. The beers are pretty expensive, but they're super high quality, served in the proper glassware, with clear explanations of what's goin on in the beer descriptions in the menu. One of the cool things that Off Color is doing is working with their own terrior, local yeast that they're developing as a strain. It makes it so you get a true taste of the city of Chicago. Off Color had EVERYTHING! Delicious options to drink for everyone and you can bring your own food as well. We brought a cake in and celebrated my partner's birthday while sipping on the best brews. There was a live DJ who joined in as we sang Happy Birthday and we were able to purchase bottles of our favorite pours right there too. Great for a group hang with long communal tables. read more

We've been in Chicago for 6 weeks and have been here 6 times, lol. We are from Oregon so have pretty high standards for brew scene. Love this chill tap house!! Beers are so good, lots of seating, easy parking, great staff, AND you can order delivery from Forastero - don't miss the fish tacos or the Korean BBQ tacos, plus they have VEGAN options for both. Literally the rudest people ever! Our two friends dropped us off and decided to scoot back. Have taken their personal scooters all over Chicago and have always been able to store by the table. The two guys in front wouldn't let them bring their scooters inside. So, let's just let them leave them outside downtown Chicago to get stolen. Riiighhhttt..... They said the brewery was too packed. Please see picture to demonstrate how "packed" the place was. It was literally the opposite of packed. Is off color brewing racist, sexist, or do they just hate the environment? Or all 3? Will NOT be back. They also said they treated us just like bicyclists? They said bikes aren't allowed either. Umm HELLO?!! Are you not a brewery? Is cycling and beer not a thing in Chicago? There should be a legit spot to keep bikes and scooters JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER BREWERY IN THE MIDWEST! Try not to suck so bad Off Color... but really just try. It's not that hard. Call me caught. They've mousetrapped me and I like it! I like a lot of things Off Color does, but I like it even better in their natural element. This taproom is great, and I like their eclectic selection of beers on tap and the fact that I can BYOFood. They even make it easier by offering an online ordering kiosk and a pizza phone (ring ring ring ring ring ring ring pizza phone!). While here, I got reacquainted with a familiar beer - Dino Smores. I also took my friend's suggestion and tried Fox in the Hole and Staveyard Framboise. Both were good, but I enjoyed Eille more. However, I found out Tummy Time was my favorite when I got to try someone else's and I wish I'd been drinking that the entire evening. Beer not your thing? How does it feel to be wrong? ... Actually, not a problem. They have cocktails, too! I somehow missed that on my visit, but it's come to me attention recently and now I can't wait to get back here and try those, too. read more

My wife and I were on a brewery tour earlier this week and wanted to check this one out. It is ranked one of the top places in Chicago so I was pretty excited. I don't doubt that they are delicious to a large majority of people, but I know that I'm a little picky and that's something I have to own. The beer I ordered was ok. However, I'm big into customer service which is where my ranking came from. It is a cool space and the individual at the front greeted us while multi-tasking and was very nice so I was feeling good. However, the bartender seemed to care less about being friendly or remotely welcoming. I'm sure this person is very polite, but in that moment, they did not seem to care about their poor attitude or being friendly. Rubbed me the wrong way but I'm glad we could try their beer. read more

Overall: A solid addition to Chicago's tap rooms, don't let Off Color pass you by just because of an odd location. The good: Lots of tasty and unique taps to choose from (and with cool names) in a large, open (yet humble) space. They have large, long tables for larger groups, and also outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and they played pretty good music for some weekday chillin'. BYOF. The not-so-good: A little expensive for the various sizes and brews that you can choose from. I love this place! I think it's because they don't make IPAs and traditional hop-heavy beers. Instead, all of their beers are complex and unique and delicious. We come every chance we can get and love trying our the new small barrel creations. They're laid back, the bartenders and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. No food, but they have a little station up in the front that you can order delivery from a number of places around the neighborhood and they'll happy let you have it delivered to eat there. Everyone orders from Pizzeria Bebu, which is delicious! I wish this place was a little closer to home because we would be here every night. We just had a dry bar with a beverage fridge built in our house because we couldn't fit any more Off Color bottles in our fridge! If that's not a testament to how good this beer is, I don't know what is! The only downside is that their small barrel beers are limited edition & if you want to drink an older bottle in the tap room, it will set you back $30+ for a 750ml bottle (about two 12-oz glasses). read more

I don't know much about the Chicago food/bar scene, besides the fact that I like their deep dish pizza. But if this joint is a good indication of what's going on in terms of brewing, I will gladly be back. I am not a huge beer person, but when in a brewery, I order beer. It was so good. Not much to say that, when it comes to sours, there's no better brewery in Chicago. Mousetrap is a super relaxed place to spend an afternoon, especially when the weather is nice and you can snag a table on the patio. Servers are friendly and the bring your own food policy is a godsend. read more

New to Chicago, and this taproom is near my place so I walked over to taste a few beers. If you like to get a bit outside of the IPA-heavy world of craft brewing, this place is definitely worth a look. Most of their beers on tap seem to be lighter, lots of fruit beers, sours, ales, etc. I usually drink IPAs but have to say that these beers were all excellent. My favorite would have to be the Eeek!, a collaboration between Off Color and Miller. They don't offer flights, but have 8oz pours of all their beers for about 5-7 dollars apiece. No food, but they offer the ability to call multiple restaurants from a kiosk in the taproom, which is then delivered to you. Also has a spacious patio out front for enjoying a beer in the sun. I would definitely recommend coming and trying a few of these excellent beers (start with Apex Predator because it's excellent, move from there). read more

My kind of brewery. BYOF with a cool, low-key space with fantastic beers. Most of their beers have a Belgian twist - lots of wheat beers, saisons, belgian ales. Such a nice change of pace from all the larger breweries that just throw more and more hops into their beers to burn your tastebuds. Perfect spot for an afternoon of drinking, can't wait to return! read more

Awesome local brewery with a great outdoor patio! I was happy knowing the Tooth& Claw is available because I have had it and know I like it. The bartender was very friendly and I tried a number of their "Beer for" lineup like Beer for Tacos it's a great concept. Overall I had a solid experience here and would come and hang for longer on the big patio. I believe you can bring food and it's literally next to the mega Whole Foods. read more

We came on a Saturday night around 10:30, and the place was packed! It's located super close to apartment so it was an easy walk, but there is a good amount of free street parking. I appreciated how the man who checked IDs wasn't in my face about IDs. I look young, and people usually shove their bodies in front of me asking for ID. I really felt like I was being invited in. They have a great selection of beers, with a pretty exhaustive list. They have them listed on the back wall, but you can also ask for a menu that has a very detailed description. The bartender also gave great recommendations and offered tastings. Lots of seating, but really loud. I found myself screaming to my group. Huge range of age groups, I felt like I was the youngest one. Definitely a place I'd like to come back to! read more

I was recently in Chicago for a work conference. Only had enough time to hit two breweries during down time and I am so happy I picked this spot as one of the two. It was by far the best I hit. First, if your staying downtown it is only two stops away on the red line train (plus a short walk). Next, the beer is legit. I tried a few and they were all good. I live IPAs, but I also loved the fact they did not have one on the menu. It's refreshing to see a place making the beers they want to make and not just what everyone else makes. They also have a small to go fridge where they have bottle offerings. They don't serve food but they have an iPad you can order food for delivery from or you can use the red phone for a direct line to an amazing pizza place 2 blocks away and go pick it up and bring it back. That's what I did and the pizza was incredible (see my review of Bebu). Go enjoy this spot. After I tried a second brewery that couldn't hold a candle to this place (see my review of Haymarket) I wish I would have just come back here a second time. read more

Amazing beers, perfect taproom vibes. We sat outside in the front but there's also a patio close to the river in the back (sounds more scenic than it is but still great!). The Taproom is also spacious and a good vibe. Definitely get an Apex Predator on tap, but you also have to try some of their more adventurous exclusives! My favorite was Gator Time - a saison aged with cherries. So tasty! The bartender claimed their Beer for Baseball rivaled a Spotted Cow but I disagree on that one - still tasty though! read more

My favorite brewery opened a taproom! How exciting is that?? I came on a Saturday night and it was so busy but we managed to snag a couple seats at the bar after waiting for some people to leave. The decor is dark and cozy with random but good 90s-2000s hip hop and R&B (or it was the night I went) playing in the background. I ordered the "I'm Sorry" beer and my sister had a cocktail whose name I forget but it was like a spiced wine. We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and I highly recommend both! I can't wait to come back and try more of their beers or even some of their cocktails! I'm delighted that this tap room is BYOF, is close to my house but still has ample parking if I feel like driving. Additionally, it's pretty rad that their menu has beer, wine and cocktails because there's always someone who says that beer isn't really their thing or maybe I have a hankering for something other than beer. I like their barrel aged beer. When they're out of their barrel aged beer then I switch to their cocktails. There is table service (sometimes) and the servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Once one of the servers was part mouse and kept coming back to my table to eat my Thai food (I eventually caved and gave the poor thing the rest). [Full disclosure: I did offer and she did accept food every time she came by.] Additional amenities include windows to the brewery (and tours) and a store counter that sells tote bags, beanies, water bottles and bottled beers. I bought the barrel aged beer and I think it was $17. Speaking of prices, I think that the tap room is in-line with a bar (not a dive bar) and not a brewery. The décor is cool, industrial and quirky. Their distinctive artwork and witty lines are sprinkled about. I especially like the bird footprints on the bar. read more

Off Color Brewing's taproom is finally open and I love it! At the family and friends event, they had about six beers available and three cocktails. Our server, Tara, was awesome. She would jokingly call me out on how slow I was sipping on my cocktail, and was so fun to chat with. Yuzu Fierce: You may have tried this already. Yuzu and calamansi flavors are added to Off Color's Berliner Weisse. I love the tart citrus flavor! Sure, You Can Have An IPA: This was my favorite cocktail. It tasted slightly like an IPA, but better than an IPA, since it has gin in it. PK Likes Pink Drinks: This cocktail is bitter. And pink. If you don't like bitter drinks, this might not be for you. The first sip was not my favorite taste, but the following sips got better and better. They also have a great merch selection, with everything from clothes to mugs! If you go, don't forget to take a six-pack home. You'll be craving their beer after a chill night here. Note: There is no kitchen here. According to one of the managers, there is a possibility they may try to work out something with eateries nearby. :) read more

Great place to have a unique craft brew. The staff is engaging and just as unique as the crafts they serve. The Mousetrap is a really cool space with a chill vibe. I drive from Michigan just to check them out and was not disappointed. I highly recommend them to my friends. Loved the "Fox in the Snow"! I had been waiting for this place to open for some time now and it's finally here. Great vibe inside, great music playing and great service. If you like Off Color's beer offererings they are here and then some. Special options pop up regularly and they also feature a few brews from other locals breweries. Hungry? They have a fucking PIZZA PHONE that connects you directly with Pizzeria Bebu around the corner. Not into that? You can also get something delivered from your place of choice. I personally love this place and feel it's a great option in a neighborhood that's evolving. It's a great taproom for after work with plenty of seating communal and non.
