We did a little bit of research on why this may have happened and found that it's either a low quality fish or wasn't cleaned properly. We also had the crispy rice and the rice felt very gluey. We sat inside at the sushi bar and it does have a bit of a stuffy hot feel when you walk in, but the door was left open so it felt a little bit better. With all of this, we decided to cut our losses and move on to somewhere else for dinner.

Out of the dishes I got -- hon maguro nigiri, ika with shiso nigiri, iwashi nigiri, nodoguro nigiri, zuke nigiri, himitsu roll, and himitsu sushi -- my favorite was surprisingly the ika with shiso nigiri. The ika was fresh and the shiso gave that sweet and delicate notes that did not disappoint. Although this was my favorite, all the other nigiris were also amazing as expected from a quality omakase place. Service was quick and friendly. Our server checked on us quite often. Chef mitsu also consistently made sure that we were enjoying the food and experience. The chef also gave his opinions on various fish and gave background to what fish he likes to select and suggest. Honestly, there was nothing better than hearing from a chef who loves his art and craft.

We had a bento box, Himitsu roll (which was fishy), the sushi lover set and the soft shell crab appetizer. The soft shell crab was the best thing there but I could not even finish half of my sushi due to how rubbery and inedible the rest of sushi was. The rice also fell apart immediately prior to picking it up with my chopsticks. I tried to just eat the sashimi without the rice to not waste food but we couldn't. The Bento box included salad that wasn't cleaned properly and included sausages and a very small amount of fish as the main course. There were also bones in a lot of the fish & eel nigiri (which I haven't experienced before) When asked how things tasted I mentioned that the sushi was rubbery and I couldn't finish the rest. She offered me to take it home which I politely declined. We were then charged a 20% service fee bundled in as a tip and this was not disclosed when we initially sat down. This was not only one of the most expensive lunches but my mom & I ended up getting sick later on that night and should have left halfway through the meal. Needless to say we will not be returning. We had hoped they would offer some sort of price break or an exchange for something else but it was such a horrible experience we just wanted to leave. Such a slimey way to do business and not disclosing a mandatory service fee.

The fish here is incredibly delicious, exceptionally and high quality, and treated like a work of art; it's so fresh that and extra sauces aren't even necessary. Although i do dabble in ponzu haha. To perfectly end the night, I always look forward to their ice cream topped with matcha. It is the ultimate finale. The service is unmatched. My partner and I have gotten to know the owner, who is kind and absolutely full of passion. That energy translates to the entire staff, the waiters are always professional and attentive, and the sushi chefs are truly top-of-the-line. The entire team works together to make magic happen. With its intimate, cozy layout and relaxed volume, it is the perfect spot for a date night. Because it's a boutique space, I would definitely recommend making a reservation. We absolutely love this place! Also perfect for takeout. Kinda obsessed.

I loved their cucumber salad and enjoyed the salmon oshi more than the pearl roll -- the flavors in the pearl roll just didn't pair as well for me personally. The 5-piece wagyu was just okay to me, although my friend really liked it. The uni was decent -- not amazing, but not bad either. Their matcha ice cream was tasty and a nice way to end the meal. Overall, it's a solid experience if you're looking for higher-end spot, but between the pricing, awkward parking, and lack of much of a view or ambiance, I don't find myself rushing back. Really want to give it a 3.5 but that's not an option !

As longtime fans of SoCal…read moresushi (we've spent years eating our way through the Normal Heights menu ), we don't say this lightly: this place hits. The fish is incredibly fresh, high quality, and thoughtfully prepared -- and Chef Goody's menu absolutely slaps. I'd love to give specific recommendations, but truly we've been blown away by everything on the menu. You can't go wrong. Definitely peep at their daily specials list, too. Service is fantastic and friendly. The chefs are happy to chat, and always make excellent recommendations if you're unsure what to order. It feels welcoming without losing that elevated, special-occasion energy. Perfect for a date night, but also surprisingly accommodating for kids, which makes it an easy go-to whether you're celebrating or just craving really good sushi. It's one of those spots you almost don't want to tell people about... but you also don't want anyone to miss out. If you want top-tier sushi in La Jolla, this is it.

When I pointed out the issue, the waitress did not acknowledge her mistake and she said that we are ordering additional beer and karake. I also ordered a nine pieces of sushi but she served nine pieces of sashimi. We were party of five and everyone ordered two or three dishes on the menu so we thought that someone else ordered the sashimi. Actually no one ordered the sashimi and she forgot to bring sushi that I ordered. There were no apologies for the horrible services rather blaming us. For the food, it was edible but the quality was not good. Salmon belly sushi was not from belly. It had no fats. Baja roll had way too much lemon so I couldn't taste salmon or tuna. Chicken katsu sauce was way too salty.
