So yes-read the reviews and the FAQ on the website before visiting. I LOVE a piano bar! It's definitely not fancy, but the talent and entertainment are fantastic. It's not for the faint of heart or easily offended. All drinks are ordered from the bar and there's a $2 charge on each tab for credit card fees. What a fun thing to do during your night out. The drinks were cheap and the vibes were great. There was a cover charge of $10 each, but they give the option to pay cash or card which is great if you want to save your cash to tip the pianists. The piano players play songs in order of highest tips first, and then work their way down from there, with a $20 minimum to get pulled on stage and have a song sang to you or a friend for celebrations. The Music is played through speakers outside as well as inside so be aware they do not say "curse words" from songs. There was only a few songs they announced they didn't know, but they were very interactive on the ones they did. This place is huge with community tables all over. There is not room for dancing, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. There is no food served here so keep that in mind, I likely would have given full stars if they had served anything like bar peanuts or beer pretzels at the least. read more

This place was so much fun! The location is downtown and is walkable from many places. There are many places to park within walking distance. They do not serve food, but there are many places to eat close by. We paid a $10 cover, but it was worth it. There are tables all over, sort of like communal seating. Plenty of room for large parties or couples. The guys that were playing pianos and singing had SO much talent!! They can sing and play any song you request! Later in the night a man joined them to play drums, which was great. Be sure to bring cash and tip!! You can fill out a card to request a song, embarrass a friend and get them up on the big seat on stage, put a shout out on the board, get your football team up on the board, and more. Fun evening! The piano players were talented and funny. Our waitress was very attentive and checked on us frequently throughout the night. They make it easy for you by letting you buying "wagon buck" vouchers to use when tipping the players when requesting songs. The singer made a very uncomfortable atmosphere by calling up a guy who, in his own words, was "some loser from high school" and asking for him to be whipped with a belt on stage, in addition to making him strip down and dance nearly naked. Fun little spot for date night and drinks. The performer (wish I remembered his name!!) was amazing! He made the night so much fun, and is truly a talented pianist and singer. You're given a notepad that allows you to request a few different things from the entertainer, including musical selections. Most patrons requested country songs but the pianist himself reminded us all that he "does more than country" and even surprised us with a bad-ass Dr.Dre/Eminem rendition. I gave him an option in my request and he knocked out a PRINCE song out of the ball park-- SO GOOD! The bartender was sweet and friendly and recommended a great local beer. Drink prices were decent and the vibes overall- immaculate! We were there on a Monday which I imagine to be one of the slowest nights of the week- looking forward to going back on a weekend for the full dueling piano experience! read more

5 people from our group felt this place is homophobic. Among other things, they refused to play born this way by Lady Gaga. We felt a disgusted by this establishment. Update: in response to their response. Yes, they offered to sing other lady Gaga songs, which are not about gay pride. No one from our group of 5 human beings heard anyone offer to give our money back. We all felt disgusted and decided to leave. That's 5 people. Even the when they said they won't do the song, we heard homophobic comments in the audience. Why not do that song? Announcing you don't know it but knowing every other obscure song is a full on cop out. And their response to my review clearly showcases the sentiment in which we experienced when we were there. Rude, non compassionate, and non inclusive. Even if they avoid the song bc of their homophobic leaning target audience, do better. It's 2022. Be the change. It's Asheville. Finished up a wedding on a Sunday and we were looking to go out with maybe 12 of us from the wedding that evening. A lot of stuff in Asheville was closed so we were happy to find Off the Wagon. When we arrived, it was pretty dead. That was fine because we brought our own group and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. One of the guys immediately started playing and as it got busier, they livened things up more with the back and forth of two piano players. So much fun!! There was a $1 membership fee per group when you first walk in because they don't serve any food. I went on a Wednesday night around 8pm and was charged $5 cover per person. The idea of this bar is so unique-- I've never been anywhere similar before and I had a blast. Make sure to tip the pianist when you request a song! They're hilarious and crazy talented. I went to Asheville for my bachelorette trip and before even going, I knew I wanted to pay a trip to Off the Wagon. I'm so happy we did because we had a great time. The $10 cover charge was a bummer but those piano players and the staff deserve it for what they deal with, so I didn't mind paying for it. The show starts early with one piano player on Saturday then another one joins later on. They play every request within reason and as an Elton John fan, I was thriving. It was so great singing along, being loud, and no one caring. Also, my friends paid to have me roasted so that was a nice surprise. Don't waste your money. The bartenders prey on the tourists and take advantage of the loud atmosphere to pretend they don't hear you. They assume you are drunk and won't pay attention to the itemized bill. I was charged $53 for two drinks which is absolutely absurd. Two tiny drinks in a plastic cup. The first time I was asked if I wanted a double and I said yes. The second drink I was asked again if I wanted a double and said "no, a single is just fine." Whenever I went to close my tab I was charged for two doubles, as well as a $2 management fee and a $2 drink fee on top of the cost of the drinks. $53 for two tiny drinks in a plastic cup is greedy and a joke. They also include a 20% gratuity. Whenever I questioned the bartender who gave me my tab, his response was, "I didn't make it so I don't know." Really torn on writing this review. Had a great time here tonight with a group of 6 and our waiter (Matt) was super nice. My incredible disappointment came as we left. We attempted to help a woman who was extremely intoxicated after leaving this place. She had no phone, no ID and couldn't tell me where she was staying. We asked the bouncer to call someone to help her and he refused. He said he wouldn't call "unless it was serious". This woman could not walk or talk ... that is serious. She fell down multiple times. Be better. You are a bar that serves no food. It is absolutely your responsibility to make sure people are safe. Here's the thing... you are local to Asheville. This woman was completely unsafe being left alone. It's sad that your team doesn't show some empathy. We were from out of town and had no resources available to us to help her. Edit. We stayed with the woman until her friends found her so she made it home safely. Your bouncer told us that we could call her an Uber, something I would have absolutely done had she been able to tell me where she was staying. I would have absolutely called the police to make sure she was safe. Not sure how this business counts customers but there were well over the number the owner lists present that night. Bartender was rude from the jump. Prices are unacceptable for any city. Especially considering they charge a cover and "merchant processing fee" on a week night. I visited Asheville for my birthday this weekend and stumbled upon this bar because of the live music being played on the loud speakers outside. Let me just say I was pleasantly surprised. I have never been to a bar like this before and it was very enjoyable and lively experience. The cover fee of 10$ wasn't too expensive in my opinion and they immediately hand you a pen and a song request/embarrass your friend on stage form to fill out. Depending on how much you tip is when your song gets played. There is also two mirrors that the piano players write messages on that come from "bidders" in the crowd. It was hilarious! I loved that this bar was very interactive with their customers. Also note that we sat at a high top and it is bar service only, but if you want service you can sit at the larger tables closer to the stage. The servers seemed cool from what I saw. The only complaint I had was that if you got a fish bowl you HAD to share it was someone and my friend couldn't get another drink until we finished it, but i'm sure there is some story or two behind why this rule is in place. The drinks were weak. There was no garnishes for the drinks. My designated driver was charged for tap water. The pianists will publicly shame you if they feel you didn't give them enough money to play a song. (Like literally call you out by name over the microphone and say that if you don't throw more money down, they won't play your song.) The poor bachelorette ended the night in tears. Don't go here if you're under the age of 30. It has it's crowd and niche - and that's drunken 50 year olds. It's pretty trashy and full of bachelorette parties. They charge a cover and it's packed.
