Customer Service is also key to a business. I walked away with a foul taste in my mouth shopping here. I was tasked to get more Duck Tape for my part time job. I've always purchased this by ordering it online from Office Max and picking it up either at their Dillingham or Ala Moana Blvd locations. I was getting my haircut in the Kapiolani area and remembered to get Duck Tape but forgot my glasses in my car. I was still able to navigate on my mobile to order it online and went on their website and did a search "Duck Tape" as I usually do and saw a 6-pack for $40+ so I purchased 2 and paid via Apple Pay. I shortly received a text advising my items are ready for pick up. I drove directly to this Office Max after my appointment and was in shock when I saw they were rolls of clear Duck Tape. I walked to one of staff who responded curtly, "That's what you ordered." I was shocked of his tone and rudeness and chose not to stoop to his level. In turn, I commented the need to swap the clear rolls for silver rolls as they couldn't be used at my part time job. The same male employee advised me I had to stand in line for refunds. Lucky me, the same male staff was stationed at the Customer Service Counter. He refunded my purchase and gave me the refund receipt. To my surprise, the male staff informed me to head to isle 4 for the Duck Tape. I found the silver Duck Tape on the shelf and picked up the last 2 3-packs and headed to the check out line. Overall, i accomplished my assignment to get more Duck Tape but not happy on how the male staff spoke to me. I'm not sure if the staff had an off day or that's how he usually is. Supplies to the Max... I do like this Kaka'ako location as this quite large store has its own personal parking lot so you never have to search and can conveniently for whatever supplies you need. Nothing much has changed over the years that I've shopped here with lots of desks and office furniture to choose from along with laptops and various equipment to desktop items though on this visit I was looking for something very specific and was hoping that I'd find it here as it's an item that we can't seem to find it here on island...receipt spindle...you know the check stabber thing. I've pretty much checked everywhere are can't find it to only remember this store and thought I'd find it here and asked a staff to only find out that they don't carry that or anything like that unfortunately. Nevertheless I enjoyed browsing to see what other options that I may have and love how it's so nice and organized it all was as is good to know that the option to find item here is easy and convenient. Went in at 8pm one day (they close at 9pm) to send out a package via FedEx. I walked in and saw 5-6 employees just hanging out at the registers, not doing much of anything. One of them very unenthusiastically asked if i needed help and i informed them i just wanted to send a package thru FedEx. She told me the FedEx counter was at the other side of the store and that i had to check in. I walked over to the FedEx counter and checked in on theur touchscreen. Got a text saying it would be a 5-10 minute wait. I looked around and...yup...i was the only customer in the entire store. A man came out from the back, obviously bothered I had interrupted his nap time or whatever and rudely asked "What do you want?". I told him i was sending a packacge and he asked if i had the label ready or "if we would have to do that for you too?". I told him i had the QR code for the label, but he infomred me that he didnt have the scanner for it. And that if i needed any extra stickers (Fragile, hazard warning-batteries) that they didnt have those either. He told me to email the label to "the top email address" and shoved a piece of paper in my face. AS i attempted to download and email the label, he walked away. He emerged a minute later on the other side of the store without his uniform shirt on, said good bye to the other employees and left. I stood there dumbfounded. Really? I sent the email anyway and a minute later a lady begrudgingly walked over. She didnt say anything to me, just walked to the computer and printted out the label (which wasnt even a label...it wwas just printed on regular paper.) When i told her the printer cut off half the label, she sighed loudly and reprinted another. I took the label and decided to just go to a proper FedEx store in the morning since they couldn't send the package as i needed a Fragile sticker on it. As i left the employees called out to me and said they hadn't yet charged me. "For what", i asked? "$0.15 For the print and the reprint," was their reply. I told them they were out of their minds to try and charge me when they couldnt even ship out my package properly and that their customer service was beyond sub par. One of the ladies, (I'm assuming the manager) finally apologized for the previous employee walking out in the middle of our transaction and told me i was good to go. Never again. Its tuly a wonder how this place has survived with customer service like this. Truly one of the worst customer service experiences ever. read more

There are several great mysteries of our time. What happened to all the boats and planes in the Bermuda Triangle? Did D. B. Cooper survive the plane jump and make off with all that money? How is Office Depot/Office Max still in business? I went to my local Office Max just outside of downtown looking for some Avery labels. The website had them quite overpriced but in stock, I was on a short time frame, and no one else has them physically in town. So I was stuck, except when I got there, the 300 pack (way more than I needed) was not on the shelves and all that was out on the floor was the 750, 1,000, or 2,000 packs, all vastly more than I need or wanted. So giving the store the benefit of the doubt, I went looking thinking, maybe they're somewhere else in the store. 10 minutes later of fruitless searching, I gave up and asked some seemingly bored staff and then was promptly told that's online only and they can't sell that to me in person. Despite being in their store and then admitting they have them in stock. This is Corporate America Late Stage Capitalism kids and it's awful. Why would I order online from them, paying 40% more than I should, when I could just order off some other company for way less money and get it delivered around the same time? It's like they're trying to lose business on purpose. Sigh. Off to Amazon it is. You lost a sale there and I was willing to pay your uncompetitive price. I will say that their store has great parking, a good location and polite staff, but whatever empty suit decided this idiotic policy really should be fired. I get that they are trying to push me to buy the larger amount and pay more money, but I ain't doing that. If your website states it's in stock, it should be on the shelves. read more

It's that time of the year again! Can you guess it? Summer break means preparing for the start of next school year. My daughter and I decided to get her school supplies at OfficeMax. I like shopping here better than Fisher Hawai'i because it's cleaner, a little less chaos and definitely much more organized! Today, we were greeted by Marvin, the Sales Manager, and the directed us to our first stop, the stamp area. :) Did you know they can make your very own stamp? Yup, they can personalize the stamp for you from your name, occupation title, address and much more. We checked in first. So far so good. The Sales Manager also had a pleasant smile. We were assisted about 5 minutes later. I was asking Tasha about the ink color and the font. Those were only 2 questions I was able to ask and not get an answer. She didn't seem to know her work area that she directed me to place my order online. Yup, I drove to the store to be told to shop online. SMH. I walked away feeling disappointed but our main reason was to buy school supplies so I walked away from her area. Not happy here...either she's had a long day or just really didn't know her work area. Which is an opportunity for learning. At least, I'd say so specially if she plans to work in that specific work area/section. As we looked around for other supplies we needed we bumped into Ron, who pointed where the calculators could be found. He had a nice, friendly smile. :) We continue to walk around the aisle and we bumped into V, short for Valerie. This time we needed the combination lock. She was great. She walked us to the aisle. :) We are now finally ready to pay and our cashier was Divina. We love Divina! :) She was super sweet, friendly and love the way she communicated with us. It was short but she definitely had us laughing and smiling. SHE IS A KEEPER!!! The overall experience of shopping at OfficeMax was great from Marvin to Ron to Valerie to Divina! This is all because they have staffs that were happy to assist! I hope their manager includes this on their performance review. :) They earned it! They deserve it!!! As for Tasha, definitely consider this as a learning opportunity. read more

I like this OfficeMax. I was greeted as soon as I walked into the store. Another associate asked if I needed any help as I was perusing the store. They sell whatever supplies you need for the office. I saw computers, printers, chairs, pens, planners and even board games. They have the Barbie Monopoly. I so wanted to buy it. I almost did except no one wanted to play with me and you can't play Monopoly by yourself. Oh well! It really was very cute though. When you're at the check out it's candy galore. They have rows upon rows of candy. If you're addicted to candy don't look, haha. read more

Bought a printer online and requested curbside pick up. Arrived at store, associate brought the package right out, but then left my car door open and said "I can't close the door for you" then left!! So I had to get out of my car, walk around to the passenger side and close the door myself. What's up with that?? Curbside pick is supposed to be for convenience - that was NOT convenient! I needed a place to print out small signs, bigger signs and a custom stamp for my wedding. They were super helpful and the process was quick & easy. Shout out to Julia who helped me both times! They did a test print for my stamps, which was super helpful and was ready in 10 minutes. And the signs I emailed them my canva prints and they went straight to work. I ordered a printing work online; it was supposed to be curbside. The printing work wasn't ready at all and got no message from them and when calling , they picked up nd hung up the phone multiple times. Escalated the issue to costumer service since it was an online order ; they checked it and saw that the order was still not ready. This is highly unprofessional and shameful!!! Still, my "go to" office supply house in the city because of their proximity to my office, their supply, their service and the list goes on. Today, I update my review with a couple changes that have occurred at and with the Office Depot/Office Max organization in Hawaii. I'm going back to the year 1918 when Honolulu Paper Company was formed in then Territory Hawaii. In 1965, Honolulu Paper Company (6 years after Hawaii's Statehood) became HOPACO, an entity formed and owned by Boise Cascade Paper from the Pacific Northwest. Tick Tock!!! Along comes 2003 when Mogul Paper Company Boise Cascade purchases the Office Max Chain; now known as Hopaco/Office Max. Okay, there in a nutshell is the history and the changes that came with this are: 1) your online order is fulfilled by the Hopaco warehouse (this means if you want to return; you need to make sure they can pick it up or you will have to take it to the store yourself 2) your reward points are under the Office Depot umbrella 3) they have Customer Service assistance on the floors from the moment you walk into the store. 4) they now sell "household" goods; paper towel, cleaners, etc. This location on Ala Moana Blvd has tons of parking. Easy access in or out if you are driving there. As my "go to" place, I will say they have almost anything you need including paper towel, hand sanitizers, storage boxes and possibly anything you can think of including consumable products like imported Asian snacks, coffees, teas = Sheesh! Went to Office Max because my wife wanted a new chair. She looked and sat on a number of chairs. She found one that she liked. The service was excellent. As soon as we walked in we were asked if we needed help. While she was looking and trying. I walk around the store and at least three employees ask if I needed assistance. I always come here to use the printer, and it's a quick and easy process where you simply email your documents to officedepot@printme.com and a code will be emailed to you, so when you go into the store you input the code and are able to print your documents for 17 cents per page for black and white. I was charged $28.49 in the store, for an ink cartridge that is listed at $12.99 on their web site. My wife called to complain about this discrepancy, and was told that it is because I did not request a "price match" (whatever that is!). From the moment I entered to the time I left-everybody was friendly and most of all helpful. There were so many kind and helpful people-I wasn't able to get all their names but I wish I did. Excellent Customer Service!!! We were greeted immediately after walking through the door, and asked if I needed help finding anything. Since I was there to fax a document and print out business cards, I asked where I could find that department; the guy was nice enough to show me where to sign in. The wait was really short, and I was helped within a minute or so. When I got to the register the service advisor (Anthony) asked me if I needed help designing my business card or if I had one already made up; I told him that I had the template in my email. After sending my business card information to the email provided, he asked me how much cards I wanted to order; I told him I'd take whatever I could to have it printed today. Anthony told me that it takes 24hrs to print the business cards; I was a little discouraged because I needed a couple for a short notice inspection tomorrow morning. As I was waiting for my fax delivery report, Anthony asked what time tomorrow I'd need the cards for; I told him I have an inspection at 9am so I needed it before then. Anthony worked hard editing my template and was able to print everything within minutes!! I can't even explain how grateful I was- it was a weight lifted over my shoulders. I highly recommend Office Depot for all your printing, faxing and office supply needs.. I will definitely come back when I need more business cards; definitely before I run out. read more

Remember back in the day when these office/computer stores were constantly offering weekly FREE items, after rebate (of course) items? There was Office Depot, CompUSA, and Office Max. I always looked through the ads in the Sunday paper, marked down what I wanted, and made my parents drive me there. Of course they wanted some things too. My job was to fill out all the paperwork, make all the copies, and prepare everything to mail out. That was pretty time consuming, and used a lot of paper, stamps, and printer ink. Now all that stands is Office Max in the area of the constantly developing Kaka'ako along Ala Moana Blvd. It sits between the Volvo and MINI dealership, and the parking entrance is on Koula St. The lot isn't big, but Office Max doesn't get busy. Oddly enough, my printer ink ran dry right when I finished doing my family's taxes! Thank goodness for the three month extension! Currently, Office Max offers curb side pick up for online orders during these social distancing times. A good thing about purchasing ink cartridges here is the Rewards program where you can earn $2 reward per cartridge you recycle (10 max per month and need to make a $10 qualifying purchase). Instead of throwing them away, you just bring them here and collect your rewards! The store was close to empty when I arrived. Still well staffed, who were all friendly and helpful. Everything was bright and clean and spacious. I easily found what I needed, did a quick check for any disinfectant wipes (no dice), and checked out. Floors are marked to ensure social distancing, and all the staff wore masks and gloves. Overall, I don't visit Office Max often since many of my office supplies last pretty long, but definitely a nice store to visit and buy what you need. Their print/copy center has the worst serivce ever. Had events close by and had to use them twice in a month to print and copy some document. Rude and lazy staff. Great customer service!! We were looking for a desk right when the second lockdown was announced. We live in Kapolei and they were all out. We decided to make the trip to town as soon as they opened! Ron greeted us as we made our way towards the desks. He immediately told us which desks they had in stock. He even checked the other stores inventory for us. The one desk that fit our needs was a bit out of our price range, so Ron put it on hold for us while we went to look at other stores. When we returned around noon, the store was crowded and all desks in stock were sold out, except the desk Ron held for us. Ron even price matched the online price for us, saving $40! We paid and told them we will pick the desk up the next day. We arrived the next day to pick up the desk. This day, Marco was helping us. While he was getting the desk off the shelf, we noticed the desk we purchased just went on sale! We told Marco and he told us we can get the sale price. DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING THAT ISN'T ALREADY IN STOCK I haven't written on Yelp in years but I do feel the need to talk about how horrible this Location is and inconsiderate behaviors that they bestow. I don't like to give negative reviews here on yelp but I feel as though their actions warrant it. I ordered a book shelf with them on February 2nd paid in full with a desk I picked up the same day. The bookshelf was not in stock at this location but they insured me that they could have it moved from another store within 3-5 days. So I waited to receive my call... I called on the 5th day to see what the status was on my order. They said I didn't need to worry and that they would call me back as soon as it's gets in. I wait and wait till February 12 February 12 I call to double check on the status of my bookshelf. They attempt to look for the shelf and still not there. It turns out that when I ordered the shelf on the 2nd that they didn't even put in the request to get the shelf moved at all. They say they're sorry that they forgot to request and ask if I still want it that they could get it in ANOTHER 3-5 DAYS LATER. I talked to the manager who apologizes and offers to go pick it up so that'll be there on Monday... (2 days later) When I go to pick up my shelf, the manager loads my car and says nothing... NO FORMAL APOLOGY AT ALL. They simply are the worst. You would think that companies would care about their customers but apparently not so and judging by other reviews this is probably just a place you wanna avoid if you are able to. I've notified the dept and they had no clue why that was happening and assured me the manager will be calling. Nope. Don't buy from this store. Bad customer service including manager. I ordered online a chair to be assembled. I had a text saying it was ready. Manager called me before I received the text and said that they will let me know once it's ready for pick up. So I got the text after the call. But that don't matter coz I went in Ala Moana store anyway to see how the chair looks like. So I decided to change to a more expensive and better chair instead. The staff and the manager told me that I will not be refunded for the assembly charge anymore. WTF???? The chair was not assembled and they just put it in the back to be assembled and I'm pretty sure it's still in the box coz the manager saying will take at least 48 hours for assembly. LOL Then the chair I want to upgrade they don't have in stock. So I left very unsatisfied and they refunded me my order but did not get the credit for assembly. I will never go back to this ala moana store anymore. Bad attitudes for the staff and the manager itself! read more
