There are two sections of the park, north and south. The south section bayside which I visited is on the promenade that runs along the Intracoastal. There is a paved walkway and the Aventura Community Green Garden. Residents of Aventura can lease a a 4 x 12 foot garden plot for $110 a year. The northern section of Founders Park is for Aventura residents only. There is a welcome center; a quarter-mile, four station exercise trail; ADA accessible playground; sun shelters; tennis courts, and a multipurpose athletic field for baseball, softball, football or soccer. The park is also the home of the Founders ParkSplashPad, a water play area inside the park. Admission is free for Aventura residents and non residents used to be able to pay to use this section of the park but this year they closed to anyone that does not have ID saying they live in Aventura. This is the first city park I have ever come across in Florida that is closed to non residents. This is probably a 5 star facility if you live here but if you are from outside of the city you are not getting in the north side of this fenced in park.

You still have to pay for parking. I recommend the parking lot next door. The Pirate Park Playground was built by Superior Playgrounds who was tasked with designing a one-of-a-kind pirate theme play space to spark creative play and provide a safe place for budding buccaneers to play. The playground is made of recycled material like milk jugs and was created to be corrosion resistant so that it would always look good in this salt water coastal ecosystem. Located only 100 feet from the beach, the playground is fenced in for safety. There is a large pirate ship for older children to climb on and slide down and a smaller area for younger privateers. The crows nest with rigging looked especially fun to climb. Other playground play structures include clownfish and blue tang fish spring riders, a custom octopus playhouse, and palm tree shade. There are four triangle sail shades and poured-in-place safety surfacing to protect little knees and bottoms. Bathrooms are nearby. During my visit the playground was filled with kids and their families enjoying the nautical theme. This unique play space fosters imagination and physical movement for the youngest North Beach residents and visitors.

I got a few cuts and scrapes in the mud, so maybe bring some hand sanitizer in your pocket. You get a medal at the end for completing it, and they have some food trucks to feast after the race. My one complain is that they charge you $20 to park at a public park that is free to park.

There is an Equestrian space here where you can rent horses to have small children ride. The Police Department also have their horses there and all of them are so beautiful! Gorgeous Royal Palms line the park in a most majestic way. The walking trails here are lovely as well, going from the canal to the wildlife. This scenic park is chock full of enjoyment for the entire family. I love this park!

This Saturday, I stopped by again since it was the kickoff point for the Miami Lakes Reindeer Run 5K. Humble Brag: while not placing, I completed it on an about a 9 minute mile. It's an improvement from when I started exercising. The park has a couple of picnic shelters, a basketball court as well as body weight strength training stations. The park bathroom building was also clean. Parking is available on both sides of the street adjacent the park. For today's event, there were a couple of vendor booths, including food vendors, a podiatrist and a different gym than the one I go to. The run was through a mapped out course along Commerce Way.

The park offers two shelters that I've seen cordial celebrations held. I've even seen exercise class take place in the shelters . The park has a walking trail, benches and exercise course along the walking trail, exercise basketball court. it has a covered play area with swings and slides. Some Saturday they host Like a farmers market. On 4th of July they host free event with music and have food trucks to purchase food and drinks. The fire work show was spectacular this year.

Pocket parks are generally less than a half acre in size and can have different amenities for the public. This type of mini park arose from a desire in communities to have places for kids to play instead of another building or wasted vacant land. Hawthorne Tot Lot is an example of a really well thought out and useful pocket park. While small in space, it is big on recreation. Hawthorne Tot Lot was first dedicated on June 29, 1991. After being renovated the park was rededicated in April of 2023. Park amenities include an outdoor fitness area, a sand pit, 2 play apparatuses, swings, picnic tables, and benches. The park was clean and colorful making it very inviting to children. I really like how it was also fenced for additional safety. The Hawthorne Tot Lot is also a Citi Bike kiosk station that promotes eco friendly transportation in the city. Citi Bike is a solar-powered bike sharing system at docking stations throughout the city. Bikes are available to use 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They can be paid for with a Bike Share Membership or an hour rental rate through an app.

The park was renovated at a cost of $4.36 million as part of the City Wide Parks Master Plan and it reopened on March 1, 2015. South City Beach Park has beach access, restrooms, outdoor showers, open air pavilion, two bocce courts, a fenced in playground, sand volleyball court, and a beachfront concession stand. If you chose to come here do not let your parking time run out! I have been here twice and they are very aggressive about writing tickets. Both times I saw multiple tickets written. Online it says the minimum parking ticket is $39. I even saw one car with the barnacle which covers the windshield and makes it impossible to see to drive the car until you pay the fine to unlock it. You can pay for parking on your phone by app. In addition to being quick to write a ticket, another thing I didn't care for is they change the parking price whenever they want. If you come early or late you can get a discounted price of $2 and hour which is half off the normal $4 an hour rate but another time I came on the Sunday after Fourth of July and a holiday rate of $10 was in effect. If you are going to stay all day it is fine but at least for me it discourages dropping in for an hour or two. Make sure you keep an eye on the time so you can have your best beach day here.
