Well, where do I begin? The service streetlight provides is great!!! Got to hand their enthusiasm…read moreand care for their customers and the store itself, they have lots of good selections of records, games and movies. Although the layout is average for a store itself kinda cramped when walking through the store. Downtown Santa Cruz, definitely needs to keep this store around I know Santa Cruz wants to tear everything down and build apartments everywhere it seems. I always raid their movies section, because I still collect physical media and I'm NOT on board with streaming, I never leave streetlight empty handed. The best part? NONE OF THIS IS CRAZY EXPENSIVE! I left the store with four movies, I could've easily got more but I decided to get the HELL OUT OF THERE before my wallet took a huge dive. Props for staying in business and truthfully I would rather support places that have knowledge about what they're doing, rather than your typical generic-random-big chain store - thank you for the hospitality and I am satisfied with my purchases, please keep up the great work! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

Felt nostalgic coming back here. I always love coming here just to walk around and look through all…read morethe physical media (DVDs, CDs, vinyls, etc). I particularly like this record store more than Redwood because of the large variety of music genres. I saw how they had some of my dad's favorite bands like REM and carried older albums of my favorite artists. My boyfriend and I were able to score an old Lil Wayne album as well. Love the charm this place has and they are able to cater to everyone's kind of music. Still giving niche, but up to date as well!

As they name of this shop implies, this business offer a very nice array of Antiques and…read moreCollectables. They are located right in the heart of the Santa Cruz Shopping District on Pacific Avenue. So, they are easy to find. And, of course, there is tons of parking surrounding this area, so that should never be a problem. Once you walk into the store you will find tons and tons of all kinds of stuff. Items like their jewelry and small things like that are keep in glass cases, so they are easy to look at and study. And, of course, they will take them out for you if you want to analyze them closer. Plus, they have all kind of others things. A never-ending, always changing variety of all kinds of antique items. One of the fun things that I saw at this shop on my last visit was they had a great collection of Asia orientated magazines from the 1950s in excellent condition. You never known what you will find! The prices here are very reasonable. This is one of those shops that you can go into and buy that very unique gift or purchase that something that you never knew you needed.

Small and cute, looked like a good mix of new, to fairly recent, to antique, rather than purely…read moreantiques. Feel like there was a LOT of jewelry, a fair amount of paper related things- like song scores and old postcards, and then filled in with all the randomness you expect from an antique or thrift shop. Glad I got to pop in.

Just dropped off several large bags and boxes of items to donate (hello major spring cleaning!),…read moreand I have to give a shout out to Deshawn (I hope I spelled that right, initials on my donation receipt are DC). I've dropped off donations at this location countless times over the years, and this was the first time I had someone walk up to my car and offer to help me unload my donations and kindly point me to the correct bins for where to place things (electronics, household goods, clothes, bags, shoes, etc). He also asked if I wanted my bags back and if I needed a donation receipt. The last time I donated items here, there was a guy working who practically screamed at me "No hangers!" to which I responded, "Sorry, I didn't know." - I put the bag of hangers back in my car but he definitely didn't need to yell angrily. So this visit was 100 times better, thanks to Deshawn. Goodwill, I hope you acknowledge the great and kind employee he is! Friendly tip: I had fragile wine glasses, pint glasses, and ceramic mugs to donate and I wrapped each item in packaging paper and bubble wrap and placed them in an open box. I was told this was a great way to donate fragile items so they don't break. The back parking lot where the donation drop off is located can get tricky to drive in/out of if there are more than few cars back there. It's basically a small loop with about 6 spots in the center. And when people are walking back and forth from their cars and the donation bins and cars are trying to exit or pull in, it can get dicey so a little patience will help!

The young man working the donation area on the weekend angrily threw a box of items I donated to…read morethe ground. He opened another box of my items and pitched them through the air across the bins so everything went crashing and slamming into the bins beneath. This was due to my items not being sorted. I cleared out the home of a family member who had passed and explained this to him when I arrived and that I had several boxes of unsorted items. He also hurled insults at me about the items being dirty and nasty. Some of the boxes were dusty from storage but the items inside were predominantly new and still sealed. He took out his phone to film me when I responded to his angry accusations . I got into my car, said "Fuck you," and left.

You can spend the whole day looking around and exploring. It also has tons of fun stationary, or kitchen decor things, like the fun stuff for your home or office, not necessarily the stuff you need, but the stuff thats going to make you smile (so, the things you need). I also loved that there were two doors. I know that is silly, but I liked that you can park in the back, walk in, go shopping, then walk out the front and you're now in downtown. It is a bit overwhelming, but, super cute and I would recommend any age stopping by for something you'd like.

It has…read morea huuuge variety of books -- the usual suspects, but also some interesting subjects that are very à la Santa Cruz, like LGBTQ themes, and then there are the huge number of gift items as well as a UCSC section, which is always fun to look through. The staff is lukewarm-friendly, but overall I find them talking amongst each other behind the register like they're at a Sunday backyard BBQ, so if I have a question, I am disrupting their conversation. They'll help me out but they aren't too happy about it. That's how it feels anyway. I wish there was a self-price scanner and a way to find books more easily, so it takes out the need for customer service. All in all, the Santa Cruz Bookstore is a place you can easily spend an hour or longer to kill time or to meander after dinner. It's really fun, and is a perfect place for the loner types who don't like people talking to them... because usually staff won't approach you here on their own. (See? This can be a positive!)
