We first looked at a 2018 Civic on the Subaru lot, but my daughter wanted to look at other options (wasn't set on a Civic). The good thing about the Capitol setup, is they have Chevrolet and Toyota right there, so we were able to go look at quite a few other newer used car options. We drove a 2022 Kia Forte, as well as a 2018 Chevy Cruze LT RS, and liked both of them better than the Civic -- they both had a lot lower miles, and were quieter on the road. We never felt any pressure from either sales associate, and felt they were very helpful in finding us viable options. We took a break to go get some lunch while we did research on the vehicles, then came back to work out a deal for the Cruze with Cameron and company. All of the associates involved with the deal mentioned several extended warranty options, but given the fact that the car only had 31K miles, was regularly serviced next door at the Chevy dealer, and got good reliability ratings from several consumer agencies, we declined. The finance guy pressured a little harder, and was on the verge of being a jerk about it, but I stood my ground and left without any add-ons. I'm fine with that. The overall atmosphere inside the dealership is laidback, with an inviting waiting area stocked with snacks and water. As far as used car buying experiences go, I rate this one pretty highly. Capitol Subaru had my 2015 Outback for two weeks for CVT issues. In the end the best they could do…read morewas confirm there was a problem and that the FIRST STEP would be to replace the torque converter and oil at $3,310. Then, if that didn't fix the issue, they would replace the valve body at $2,500, and then, if that didn't fix the problem, they would replace the entire transmission to the tune of $11,000. Now, if they can't pinpoint the problem why would we pay over $16,000 to repair an 11-year-old car with 81,000 miles on it? Proper diagnostics are key, but they just wanted to throw parts at it. Oh, and BTW, Subaru of America wouldn't help because we were out of the extended warranty period by one year on a KNOWN CVT problem. Never again Subaru

I knowingly paid…read morea bit more than I might have in a private sale because the team seemed kind and the process was convenient. I also purchased the extended warranty and an additional aftermarket product for peace of mind. The car was described as having been "babied" by the previous owner and came with a 60-day dealer warranty, so I felt comfortable moving forward. About a month later, the check engine light came on. I wasn't overly concerned since the vehicle was under warranty. Unfortunately, I was then told the car needed new ignition coils, spark plugs, and a full carbon cleaning. Only the coils were covered. The rest were labeled "maintenance items" and not included under warranty. When I asked whether those maintenance issues could realistically have developed within five weeks of ownership, I was told no. While they discounted the repair to about $1,000, that's still an additional $1,000 expense less than 60 days after purchasing the vehicle. Given the circumstances, I had hoped they might make an exception to stand behind the car and retain a loyal customer. That did not happen. Additionally, with my previous vehicle (also purchased here and unfortunately totaled), I attempted multiple times to cancel the extended warranty. I was repeatedly redirected by phone. I eventually went in person, completed paperwork, and was told to email additional documents, which I did on 12/17. After hearing nothing for six weeks, I followed up and was told delays were normal. When I finally contacted Volkswagen directly, I learned the dealership had never submitted the cancellation paperwork. I am still waiting on a $2,000 refund. The initial sales experience both times was genuinely pleasant, which makes this even more disappointing. I knowingly paid more than I would have in a private sale because I valued convenience, professionalism, and peace of mind. Instead, I've spent countless hours following up on repairs, tracking down warranty information, going back and forth with staff, and ultimately having to contact Volkswagen directly to get basic paperwork processed. The extra money I paid for "convenience" has been more than offset by the time, stress, and frustration caused by poor follow-through. These folks are your best friends until the sale is made - after that everything changes. Between the unexpected repair costs just weeks into ownership and the failure to submit my warranty cancellation for months, I no longer feel confident in this dealership's commitment to standing behind what they sell. One star only because the purchasing experience itself was smooth. Trust is everything when buying a vehicle, and unfortunately mine was lost. I will be taking my business elsewhere, even if it means traveling farther, and I strongly encourage others to protect themselves with an independent pre-purchase inspection before buying a used car here.

I wish they were closer to Portland, however I am good with making once a year trip there, meet a friend in Salem, get all the oil changes, maintenance checks and recalls done in a day, much better than the wait times or dropping the car off for multiple days at the Portland dealer.

The emergency key was missing, the kind of detail that only matters when it matters. I brought it up, like an old lover who still believes a wrong turn should end with a nightcap and an apology. Instead, it turned from good cop to bad cop faster than a red carpet turns into a doormat. Then Murphy made a house call. The battery went low. She wouldn't let me in, like a partner who caught me gambling with the rent money. I used my one free call to get a locksmith to bail me out. Time and money burned on something promised on the first date. Next the check engine light blinked into life like it couldn't wait to hand me a bill and a lecture. Still loyal, I went back to them instead of the brand shop off the two one seven. One tip slipped across the bar after another.
