Called to get information about a service that I will have done on our Prius. I called and got a AI type auto response message and was told that there was no one available to take my call. But, someone would call me back. Didn't happen. And this is nothing new for Capitol Toyota. They are batting 1000 when it come to treating their customers like they don't matter. Not to fear. There is always the chat feature. That feature is just as dismal as the call in experience I had. There was absolutely NO response from the chat either. Just a suggestion. If the Chat feature is unavailable......TELL people that its NOT available. This lack of customer service now, is the same as it's been for years. Hire people that care. Drove my grandmother 4 hours up here to look at a 2017 Mercedes. Car was in worse condition than expected and even had been in an accident and poorly repaired. This would have been nice to know before the long drive. After checking the vehicle out for myself I found an uninstalled nut on the upper control arm mount bolt, even though the vehicle had "$3,600" worth of inspections and servicing by their "technicians". Couldn't even test drive it very unsafe. Glad I was there with my grandmother before she drove and bought that death trap. Would not recommend buying a used car here and definitely wouldn't recommend getting work done to your current vehicle here. They said they did everything they could to get rid of the smell, but they did not. I spoke to someone saying there was one last thing they can do but it is pricey to do and would need approval, which they now won't do. Unfortunately, we have been shafted by the customer satisfaction department. Picture this... We purchased a GOLD CERTIFIED 4Runner 8 months ago. 17k miles on it. We were upsold due to "upgrades" that were included with one of the used vehicles. We stretched our budget and spent 51k total. Then... A/C fails 8 months after purchase in the dead of summer. Another Toyota dealership's service department informed us that the aftermarket front winch had rubbed against the A/C line, causing a leak. We approved those repairs at a total cost of $1,200. Why am I leaving a one-star review??? Well, we received no previous disclosure that the winch was aftermarket and a possible liability. We purchased a "GOLD CERTIFIED" vehicle with 17k miles on it, obviously not expecting to have a $1,000 repair bill 8 months after purchase! Toyota's corporate offices provided an indication and some reassurance that Capitol Toyota would make this situation good. Remember... "gold... certified" used vehicle. Unfortunately, Kyle Read has communicated to us that Capitol Toyota would rather keep their fists clenched on that $1,000 pocket change than foster customer loyalty. Pretty silly! read more

When I got a text saying my car was due, and that I could respond by calling or texting, I tried the text. No response. So I tried calling but was routed to a message box where I left a message. The call-back came while I was driving so we agreed I'd call back when I could view my calendar to schedule an appointment. I called back and the system routed me to music for 10 minutes. Tried calling again, still no live person, then I found that I could schedule on line. That's what I did, so it solved the problem of making an appointment, but the poor communications from the service center is not a good thing. read more

In early May I started looking for a red 2025 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I live in Bend, but there were none available here. I located one at Capitol Toyota in Salem, it was available and was going to be delivered to the dealership between May 5 and 16, so I put a $1000 deposit on it. On May 15 I checked on it, I had made arrangements to go to Salem on the 16th to pick it up. The salesperson said it would be in on the 16th but I replied I would not go over until she saw it at the dealership. On the 16th ... nothing. I was out of town the next week but on Wednesday the 21st wanted to ensure that my 4Runner had arrived as I was getting ready to go over to pick it up. I got back "Every 4Runner has been delayed for 30 days according to our system". Whaatttt? This after being told the prior week that it was about to be delivered. I told the saleperson that I would go somewhere else and to refund my deposit. She replied that "There are no SR5 4Runners available anywhere". I told her that I will drop Toyota and buy something else. After that ... silence. A few days later, on Friday the 23rd, I asked whether my deposit refund had been processed (it didn't show on my credit card statement). And I got back ... silence. There are 2 primary issues here. One is the dealership representing that they had a SR5 available with a delivery date by May 16. Let's say that was an honest mistake (which I have trouble believing it was). But once they could not deliver, the next issue is not promptly refunding my deposit. Auto dealers ... same old practices. You would think that one of these days they would improve. Now, a week and a half after I was supposed to pick up the 4Runner, I have to hassle with these people to get my deposit back. What a pain. read more

I decided to buy local instead of saving a little bit and going to Gladstone Toyota. The extra year of free service makes deal pretty close. If you are going to "trade in" your car, I recommend visiting CarMax first. They bought my car for thousands more than what Gladstone or Salem Toyota offered me. I've owned over 20 Toyota/Lexus and this dealer purchase was by far the most easy and honest experience with our sales person: Billy H. Due to chip shortage low inventory, many dealers are marking up the price but Capitol is honoring the MSRP on most vehicles. We put down a $500 non-refundable deposit on a 2021 RAV4 Prime it took about a month to arrive from Japan. I spent 4 hours here arguing and showing examples of how my trade in was worth twice what they were offering me. I hate the way they act so slimy about going into another room to "see what they can do", like what happened to honest negotiations and fair prices. They tried to get me at 8.9% with my 731 credit score and the second I argued it, they magically changed it to 6.34%. It's like they just create these lies and propaganda and instead of being honest you have to take out a magnifying glass and play lawyer just to not get scammed. After about 7 "this is the best we can do" 's, we agreed on a number for my trade in. I made it very clear and they all knew I owed 5400 on my truck still. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART I signed all my papers and got the Tacoma I wanted at $339 a month; got the keys drove it home and enjoyed the rest of my night. The next day I came in to get the alignment on my new truck looked at. They said the ACCOUNTANT MESSED UP AND FORGOT TO ADD PAYING OFF MY OLD TRUCK INTO THE NUMBERS AND THAT I OWED THEM $5400 AND THE DEAL MUST BE REFINANCED TO ADD THIS ADDITIONAL MONEY INTO THE FINANCING. How is that my problem, the deal is done and they need to make up the difference. When you make mistakes in business you eat the cost. Thats how it works. I screamed and negotiated them down to saying I only owed them an additional 500 from what we ALREADY AGREED ON AND I SIGNED YESTERDAY! In my opinion I think this was a tactic OR an issue they didn't wanna be held accountable for. Either way they still ate 90% of it and I got my truck but I think this was illegal. They said if I just left and didn't pay it they would just send me a bill for the whole 5400 which also seems illegal but I'm no lawyer. What a disgusting place. It feels evil. If you make a mistake why am I paying for it? Rather hurt the pockets of a middle class mid twenties married couple than take a small hit to your profits. Change those things today my oil was sludgy , the air filter had a bunch of leaves . Don't live by trees and peach seeds in the air intake. So let the Yelp community figure this one out, I certainly do not understand it. But from what do understand a classic bait and switch is going on here. 1) Asked daughter to inquire about a standard transmission flush. 2) Daughter receives quote from dealership (Item A) 3) We converse, she tells me that the quote is for $190. 4) We go to drop off the car at Capitol Toyota Salem. 5) Service tech pulls up quote, then as we hand over keys, tells me that the service will cost $351 - this was a VERBAL. (hmmm) 6) So we leave, on way home I asked my daughter about the quote she received and then shows me the quote, it says $190 7) Go to pick the car up and inquire about the original quote. 8) The service tech indicates that the quote does not include parts. 9) What parts? The actual transmission oil. (lets refresh - see Item A) 10) It clearly indicates - "JB7WS - World Standard Fluid Exchange INCLUDES up to 10 quarts of toyota world standard auto trans fluid. 11) I point this out to the service tech and ask for a manager. 12) The actual invoice includes line 10 above and then another line item including the the transmission fluid for $159.90 13) I then talk to the manager and ask him to review item A, he does and agrees that it clearly says transmission fluid is included in the in the quote. Then I show him item B and he had to really think about this, completely taken back and off guard. 14) He then asked if service tech quoted me item B price when we dropped it off and I said YES, but as I went home I reviewed the original quote and did not understand why the original quote is $190 and includes the transmission fluid. Even item B INCLUDES the transmission fluid. 15) After going back and with manager, he stated that "I was splitting hairs" What the heck?? - Splitting hairs?? After going back in forth, I was in shock and ultimately left with a 10% off, but a very uneasy feeling of being taken for a CLASSIC BAIT AND SWITCH. When we realized this last minute trip was going to take place, my husband suggested I find a dealer to look at the vehicle before we attempted to drive it almost 3,000 miles. I searched and found several Toyota dealers. I chose capital out of Salem Oregon because we would be able to hop on the I-5N. We had an appointment for 11:30. We arrived an hour plus after with the car on a tow truck. We were very grateful to be seen. Once the car was processed in their system, a text message was sent which indicated each step in the process. You could see updates, recommendations, findings. My husband was briefed on the situation. We were told the mechanics stop working at 4, so they were limited on the amount of work they could do. The oil was changed, a realignment was done, and an inspection completed. The bad news was no AC and no way to fix it unless we stay an extra day (still no guarantee because one never know what they will find when they start opening up other things). The lobby was very nice with many seating areas. There's areas to charge your phones and other devices. Refrigerators with 8 ounces water bottles. Keurig coffee machine with tea and coffee options. Fresh fruits (apples, bananas, and oranges). A tray with small packages of snacks. Water bowl for the doggies. Vending machine too. There's a little cafe nearby (same complex). There's a McDonald's nearby. This was a very nice service center. read more

Shifty service department. 1. Scheduled routine service. Arrived. Presented with estimate of $770. No breakdown of what that entailed. Seemed very high. Called a bunch of other dealers and received prices in the $200s. Later found out the estimate presented was not just the service recommended in the Toyota manual. The dealer took it upon themselves to add things that aren't in Toyota's service recommendation. Turns out I was supposed to have been given options of which service I wanted - Toyota basic vs with dealer "enhancements". I wasn't. 2. Dropped car off. Nothing was said about new fees with payment. Picked car up. Hit with a new dealer-imposed 3% fee for using a credit card. Had I been told of this fee when I dropped off my car, I would've returned to pick it up with an old-timey check. 3. Trying to get management to return my phone calls was about as easy as pulling a third molar while on a boat heading down the Amazon. read more

Do NOT purchase through ANY auto finance department. Always get pre approved before walking onto the car lot. We were new to leasing and got screwed because we were told one thing when we signed the first lease agreement and then told completely different 2 years later. As a result we were not able to purchase for the payment amount we were led to believe, which forced us into another lease if we wanted to keep the vehicle. The second lease was a higher payment of course. We don't know if they tried any other finance options other than Wells Fargo, which is probably one of the most corrupt banks in the US. read more

Here's the key saga: The key broke for our Toyota so we needed a new one. It was a fob key combo. I called to get a quote and they told me the key itself would be $299.00 and cutting and programming went up to $200.00 . Well that's crazy, so I found the key on Amazon for about $40.00 got it cut at a locksmith for $25.00 and took it to Capitol Toyota to get it programmed. I talked to multiple people ahead of time, all of who said to bring the key in and it could get programmed. After spending about 30 minutes, they asked me where I got it from, I said online, and they said that they couldn't program it. BUT, they still charged me $75 "for their time" even though I talked to them ahead of time and they said they could program a key not purchased through them. Whatever, I took the key to Ace Hardware where they were able to program it for $125.00. No super special key, no absurde pricing. Easy peasy. It works like a charm, unlocks the car and starts the engine. So I got another one from ACE hardware as a backup. Buying the key, cutting it and programming it, all for a total of $175.00. I got TWO keys from ACE hardware for less than one of Toyota's. Turns out, there were too many keys programmed to the car and Ace of all places figured it out and wiped out the old keys from a previous owner. You'd think a DEALERSHIP (where I purchased the car) could have figured that out when they couldn't successfully get it to work. read more

I had the worst experience today at toyota capitol After being a loyal customer for so many years I brought my car today for maintenance and to check noises that my car was making I dropped it off in the morning and when I picked it up there was a crack in the windshield I told them right away and Devon who was assisting me said he needs to talk to someone else who is in a meeting to figure it out and said he call me later. I went home then I received a call later and he was saying he talked to Ken who said there must have been a rock chip and with hot air and cold water it cracked and I should call my insurance. I asked to talk to Ken, Devon said Ken would need to see the crack to figure it out more So I drove back again to talk to Ken Ken looked at the vehicle and said there must have been a rock chip and it cracked with hot air and cold water.. I said they didn't ask me for a car wash today.. and I came and the windshield was intact it's now broken and it's Toyota's responsibility Ken kept arguing with me I asked to talk to his manager and he said he's in a meeting so I waited Then Ken came back and told me they will only pay 100$ deductible and I should talk to my insurance and the manager is busy I said I need to talk to the manager.. so I waited a few minutes later manager Dan came and looked at the car and said same thing that it's not their fault, it had rock chips and it cracked with hot air and cold water and was blaming me and was interrupting me, he was rude and dismissive I told him I came with an intact windshield and this happened on their property and should be filed through their insurance and he said just because Toyota has money doesn't mean they have to pay I asked for his last name and a card and at first he was rude and would not give me his last name and walked away until I persisted Then he said he'll bring me an old car with his name. He was telling me I'm a rude customer and it's my fault the windshield is cracked. Thanks Dan and Toyota this was the worst experience ever. Worst customer care. read more

They offered my $3,900. When I challenged that amount, they offered $7,200. My credit score is great. They offered me 8.99 apr. I challenged that and it went down to 6.04. I was told to just buy the car and refinance it next month for a lower rate. I told them that mccord toyota had the same car for $2000 less. They offered to match it. This might sound nice and accommodating, but it felt gross. I was left at a table to wait for mystery negotiations and a manager to come in. One sales person was switched out for another. Nothing felt good about this experience. I was treated like an idiot and this place was ready to rip me off. This isn't a good business. read more
