The stylish Japanese coffee chain makes its first jaunt in to greater Boston at a little nook off Milk St. Coffee, milk - cute. Iced variety blends beans of Ethiopian and Japanese origins for a bold, in-your-face taste that shook this mild-tannin cold brew drinker to the core. Had to pass in favor of a sweet and light banana smoothie ($6) that consisted of fruit, milk, maybe some simple syrup and... not much else. The toss-back snack hit the 3pm spot! Ogawa is truly an all-time favorite and will always hold a special place in my heart. I've come here on weekends to journal, on breaks during a busy work day, and it's been a place where I'd go before a job interview to hype myself up. Definitely one of my top three places in Boston to get coffee. I've never been disappointed in a drink, although it could get quite pricey (for example, they charge $1 to sub almond milk). This is the only place I will ever buy an $8 matcha latte LOL. Their baked good section is also not big, but they serve regular Japanese-style meals there as well. Staff are great! It's in Downtown Boston right by a lot of the tourist spots, so this place is definitely a must-go if you're visiting from out of town! read more

I first saw a photo of Ogawa Coffee's latte art on Instagram a couple months before visiting Boston and instantly knew I had to visit this coffee shop. The detail and level of their latte art is incredible and definitely worth a visit for. I came on a Monday afternoon and was surprised by how busy it was! Every table was occupied except for one part of the bar seating and the stadium bench seating against the wall. I was welcomed by a friendly employee who took my matcha latte order. I wasn't sure if they did latte art on all their lattes so I made sure to ask for it~ We came around Halloween so it ended up being Halloween themed, with a ghost on mine and a pumpkin on my friend's pumpkin spiced latte. The matcha latte was delicious! The matcha flavor was distinct and the drink wasn't too sweet. I usually visit coffee shops to study or do some work but would probably not choose to do that here. It's a little too packed and noisy for my liking but I would definitely come here to hang out and grab a coffee date. read more

This little coffee shop inspired by Kyoto is such a neat find. The inside is very homey and casual. There's tables and a high top bar area but the coolest part is the wall seating against the side wall. Its as if you're sitting on the steps of someone's house. Very unique setup. The inside could be a bit noisy with chatter and the high ceilings echo a bit but its a nice place to catch up with a friend. The menu here is the standard coffee items (latte, cappuccino, espresso, etc.). The prices are a bit on the high end but for what I tasted, it was worth it. I opted in for a matcha latte as Kyoto is known for the matcha. It was delicious! Definitely didn't disappoint. It wasn't overbearingly sweet like the ones Starbucks makes. The frothy top and the creamy bottom was a perfect blend. You can really taste the green matcha flavor but the hint of sweet milk is very well mixed into the drink. Stopped in for a quick coffee and bagel. Bagels were fresh and nicely toasted. The espresso was well done. The stadium seating is a bit weird but, give the small footprint, I'll give them points for creativity. I must admit I kept waiting for the hot dog vendor to come around. read more

Listen carefully, Yelpers- Are you a fan of freshly brewed coffee? Do you enjoy oddly shaped seating arrangements? Do you prefer your lattes served with seasonally appropriate artwork? (See photo) If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then Ogawa Coffee is the place for you. Breakfast: Excellent egg sandwiches come with perfectly runny eggs. Amazing coffee, of course! I got my sister the most amazing little gift box for a special birthday AND, while waiting in line, I made new friends with a mom and daughter who were in town for the Boston Marathon. The Mom, who was older than me (but looked half my age) was running! Now I have a very big incentive for a very big birthday that is coming up next year! But what was truly spectacular was the staff. I have a bad day and didn't get back until a few minutes after closing to pick up the gift box. But they had set it aside for me on what was probably the busiest day of the year for them. Nice spot in the area for coffee! The baked goods in the front case looked pretty run-of-the-mill for a coffee place, but their menu seemed pretty reasonable. The coffee menu has a good variety, and you can choose how your cup is made which makes it feel custom. I got an espresso shot, which was definitely a double, but unlike most double shots I've had that are watery, this was really full and flavorful. They didn't serve it with sparkling water, but enjoyed sitting here for a bit while doing work and having some caffeine. read more

043 / 100 - 2018 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. If you know me at all, you'll know that I don't really drink coffee (let alone caffeine). I don't know what it is, but I just can't get used to the taste of coffee. Never liked it, even as a standalone flavor for ice cream or something. I actively avoid foods that have a lot of coffee flavor in it. I drink tea occasionally, but even that is rare. Same with soda. So once I discovered matcha lattes, which is pretty much the only caffeinated thing I can enjoy and drink, I became obsessed. I've found great places in California that serve matcha lattes (if you're ever in Orange County, you HAVE to try In-sīt Coffee), so when I decided to visit my sister in Boston, I knew I had to try ALL the places that served them. Ogawa Coffee (which has two locations: one in Boston, the other in Kyoto!) was one of the top places I wanted to try as it looked to be authentic. Finding Ogawa Coffee was pretty easy. The shop is definitely on the smaller side, but the big windows keep it very well lit. Loved all of the natural lighting as this gave me the perfect opportunity for photos. The store's decor is pretty modern, with a lot of places to park your butt and enjoy yourself. I do want to note that because it is small, the space is very tight and you'll inevitably have to share a table with someone. I arrived right after lunch and even though there were only 3-4 other people in front of me, the line stretched to the door. The wait in line was a little slow, but not a huge deal as I was busy looking around the store. Once I got to the register, I ordered the following: - Matcha latte with soy milk (I didn't see almond milk on the menu) - Matcha cake roll The employees were all incredibly friendly, polite, and more than happy to answer any questions that I had. Perfect customer service imo! Once I ordered, my drink came out pretty quickly. I want to note that they do latte art, but you gotta ask the barista to do something different if you want something cute - like a cat or whatever. I wish I had done that, it would've been perfect. The drink itself was good. I personally don't like soy milk all that much, so I think that affected the taste of the latte. It felt a little flat and not creamy enough. If you're going to get a matcha latte, either go with regular dairy or almond milk. Next time I'll have to get it with almond milk, if they have it. It took a good 10min or so before my matcha cake roll appeared, but I didn't mind as I had made a friend at the table I was at and we were busy chatting our heads off. The cake roll arrived at the table and I was pretty stoked! I actually thought I was only going to get the cake roll, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and some jelly. Nice! The ice cream was delicious. So, so good. The jelly turned out to be coffee flavored (lol), so after a bite or two, I stopped eating that real quick. I think someone who likes the taste of coffee would have enjoyed that a lot more. The matcha cake roll looked fantastic. The cake itself is pretty spongy and moist, not dry at all. The matcha filling was also good, but I think my biggest gripe about it was that it was just... all matcha. Nothing else. I love matcha to death, but the cake roll was definitely missing something. I think if there was a cream inside the middle (even something like whipped cream) to break up the flavor, that would help A LOT. Not bad, but decent overall. I was pleased with what I ordered nonetheless. Aside from that, a great coffee spot that I definitely recommend - a must try if you're in the area. If you don't want to really drink or eat anything, even just sitting here to enjoy the ambiance is worth it. read more

Cappuccino - Fragrant and rich earthy taste of espresso and right amount of steamy foam. What I liked is the foam retaining the frothiness on top even after continual sips. Ambiance - Half the enjoyment of a good cappuccino also comes from the environment you're enjoying it in. Ogawa's modern flip to a theatre style seating does create give the place a unique tone. It wasn't as busy when I went at 3 on a Saturday so I got to sit right up at the counter. I got to watch her in action as she weaved her art. It was somewhat mesmerizing as she skillfully plucked and swirled the millky foam into recognizable images. Great way to enjoy a good cappuccino. read more

At the first day I were in Boston for my business trip, I would love to give 5 stars to a barista who worked on Friday afternoon. His latte arts was amazing - with detailed tasting notes. I am a coffee addict and would say he could be a top barista!!! But the rest of my trips (Sat - Mon) another baristas made coffee/tea NOT a lot of flavor, kind of watery, and generally just flat tasting. Sadly, that causing me afraid to come back again :( Appreciated if you could make a taste stability. read more

It's the best coffee/Matcha latte place in town. I am a huge coffee fan and tried various (big and small) specialty coffee places in Boston and this, by far, is the best. Like other yelpers mentioned, they are known for their matcha latte and the place is a bit small for big group, but I appreciated their attentive and how they wipe down every hard surface every time someone left since COVID-19 hit the town. Ogawa Coffee was one of the chained specialty coffee shops from Japan, needless to say they have strict quality control and wabisabi plating. I cannot wait to visit them again next time I am in town. read more

I had the most delicious tomato egg and avocado bagel here. Everything was so finely chopped and fresh and came together so well with the chilly mayo. I found the drinks to be pricey. This bagel was definitely worth it at a little over five dollars and it was enough for my lunch. The workers here are also so friendly and genuine. Will come again! read more

Best latte I've had, the milk didn't go flat or weird textured after 20 mins like all other lattes. so meticulously made with love. I really enjoyed this new joint and am happy they're here. not a cheap cup of joe that's for sure, a latte is $4.50. but it's worth it. Not something you might get everyday, but once in a while its a nice treat. the stairs area where ppl can sit and chat//have coffee is just weird, but in a good way. like good funny unique Japanese weird. loved it. read more

I came here with a friend for breakfast and matcha lattes. We were super excited because we both love matcha lattes! I ordered mine hot and hers was iced. Both were very good (and I appreciated the nice latte art in mine too). For breakfast, I ordered the steel-cut oats and my friend ordered avocado toast. The steel-cut oats come with a selection of toppings, so I ordered granola, cranberries, and maple syrup. This cafe is in a convenient location near government center, but I don't know that I would have come across it unless I knew to look for it. read more

Coffee snob here, but Ogawa met all expectations. No indoor/outdoor seating due to Covid. Friendly barista. I ordered a cappuccino and a coffee-flavored macaroon. Both were incredible and well made. Every half sandwich was individually wrapped and clearly labeled, with salads and sides neatly organized, making it easy for a large group to grab lunch without the usual catering chaos. The choices were wide and varied. We took our lunches upstairs to a rooftop seating area overlooking the Seaport, which made for a pretty great setting on a beautiful afternoon. I chose the Gobbler, and it lived up to the hype I've since read in other reviews. At first glance it sounds like a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, but it's much more than that. The turkey was fresh and flavorful, and it was complemented by stuffing, cranberry sauce, spinach, pepper jack cheese, and just enough chipotle mayo to add an unexpected kick, without overwhelming everything else. It's one of those combinations that sounds busy on paper but comes together remarkably well. I spoke with several others over lunch, and they were equally impressed with their choices. That's always a good sign when you're feeding a crowd. It's one thing to make a great sandwich to order; it's another to deliver dozens of them catered while maintaining that level of quality. Since this was catered, I can't really comment on the restaurant itself. The service on the catering side, however, was evident in how thoughtfully everything was prepared and packaged, and the rooftop setting where we enjoyed lunch certainly didn't hurt. Needless to say, this won't be my last Sam LaGrassa's sandwich. I fully intend to visit the restaurant one of these days, and in the meantime I'll spend some time trying to recreate that Gobbler at home (maybe with sliced roasted chicken, but also with turkey when I have it). I ordered the Iced Matcha Latte here, and wow -- this is honestly the best matcha I've had in all of Boston! It tasted really authentic, with a nice crispness and just the right balance of sweetness and earthiness. If you're someone who loves matcha or has a craving for it, I definitely recommend checking this place out. The vibe of the cafe was cozy, but I did notice that the tables were a bit messy at times, with some plates left behind by other customers. So, they could definitely improve a bit on the cleanliness and tidiness during busy hours. The prices are a little on the higher side compared to some other spots, but honestly, the quality of the matcha makes it totally worth it. Fancy lattes and high priced coffee and an inviting atmosphere. Very when I visited and almost all the seating was taken up. The employee who took my order was very friendly and helped me decide what to get. Ended up getting a Matcha latte and they drew an elephant in mine and a giraffe in my friend's. SUPER cool! The level of detail in a cup of coffee was incredible. I usually go to Panera to study and relax, but I will be coming here more often as long as I can find a place to sit. Came here with my 4yo around 11am on a Saturday. It was a bit crowded but we found a little table for us. First thing I tried was their matcha latte. It was really smooth and tasty. A must try! I initially needed a croissant sandwich but they ran out already! So I picked for the shrimp and avocado tarine. It was great but when I ordered their sticky bun I didn't need it warmed and they did it anyways and it was somewhat burnt. Thus did not actually loved it. I recently visited Ogawa Coffee and tried their Matcha Rose Latte and Vanilla Latte. Though the latte was priced around $7, the taste and quality made it worth every penny. The coffee tasted absolutely amazing, and the latte art was a delightful bonus. It's worth noting that they stop serving coffee in cups 30 minutes prior to closing. So if you visit 30 mins before closing, you will get a reusable cup but it does not take away from the experience. read more

my problem with this establishment is that i think the japanese owners are actually racist towards minorities. in job interviews, the CEO mentioned he only wants to hire non asians even though everytime i come here, there are more white workers than both black and asians and its called OGAWA COFFEE (notice its japanese) the coffee itself is shit for the price you pay. honestly the only good thing about ogawa coffee is location. read more

Just ordered a $4 12 ounce iced coffee which is basically drip coffee over ice and it tastes like burnt cardboard. It sucks when you avoid Starbucks coffee only to find the alternative worse. Nice people and cool place but please don't over roast your beans. This tastes awful. read more
