I really like this Thinking Cup on Newbury St. It's got that cozy, quaint feeling. The coffee is always good and the baked goods are great. They have one of the best almond croissants anywhere. To the review bashing this place for a ban mi sandwich try going to a Vietnamese place. Who gets a Vietnamese sandowdy at a Cafe???? To the other reviewer complaining about Wi-Fi, seriously? You give a place 1 star for that? Ignore the bad reviews please. This place is a gem. Staff is alwyas friendly. It does get very busy so plan accordingly. I'm "Thinking" this place used a K-cup twice to brew our coffee. Watered down. It's hard to imagine coffee being literally flavorless - but they somehow managed to accomplish this. As a bonus, I had the (mis)fortune of trying one of the hot chocolates we ordered for the kids - and their review "dad, this kind of taste like foam without sugar" was spot on. You can literally see three other coffee shops from the front door of this place - choose one of them. Now, all of that being said, they have somehow managed to generate a loyal following. I went in around 1PM and the place was literally PACKED! Not sure what the 100+ people there were having - but they were camped out, laptops in hand, having extended social hours with cups in front of them. Came here years old and came back to try again and still had not disappoint. This is definitely my go to spot for breakfast! Such cozy vibes and very inviting. They make their coffee and matcha just right, their breakfast selection is amazing starting from pastries to even their steel cut oatmeal. The staff members here are nice and friendly. All very accommodating which is very appreciative! Every time I come here is already busy and crowded but the line moves fast. When you enter the Thinking Cup, you'll see a big menu on the left wall and a long showcase of goodies on the right wall leading to the register. They sell quite a variety of coffee drinks - drip coffee, café au lait, espresso, macchiato, latte, cappuccino, mocha, Americano, French hot chocolate, chais, and plenty of teas. Thinking Cup's website has quite a statement about the coffee they sell! Ever hear of Portland Oregon's Stumptown Coffee. I wasn't familiar with the name at all, but apparently it was named "Best Coffee in the World" by NPR, The New York Times, Food & Wine Magazine, and USA Today. It lived up to the hype and was very good. I should have ordered a second cup for the walk back to the hotel. Food is very well represented as well with breakfast bagels, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, smoked salmon, and deli sandwiches. Of course they have plenty of baked goods -scones, croissants, muffins, cookies, Biscottis, focaccia, rice crispy treats, macaroons, tortes, Madeleines, and tiramisu. Oatmeal and chia seed pudding were also available. My wife and I grabbed a bacon scone ($3.25), Madeleine, and an almond croissant ($3.50) from the showcase and sat in the back dining room. Those of our group that ordered egg sandwiches or egg plates had their orders brought over to our table pretty soon. My scone was wonderful, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside with delicious bacon sprinkles cooked within. The Madeline was great too - a sweet little sponge cake pastry. Service was great, we had a group of at least 20 and they handled our food and drinks flawlessly. PRO TIPS They're open every night until 7 or 9:00, so you can grab dinner or a late-night snack. The staff are friendly and efficient. This time, however, my grilled cheese fell a little short of perfection; the cheese wasn't fully melted. While that was a bit disappointing, it was still delicious.The nutty taste of Aged Manchego cheese is the backbone of this sandwich in my opinion. The ambiance reminds me of my college days, it's lovely but not too loud, has an ample amount of seating, different coffee options, tea, juices, and bottled drinks. Thinking Cup is a well oiled machine, they were cranking at 1 pm on a Thursday. Outdoor seating on their patio and just when you think the shop ends low and behold there is an entire side room filled with tables and chairs, ample seating for sure. People were doing work, reading, hanging with friends, great spot for all of those things. When I walked in and saw they used Stumptown beans I knew it was going to be a good cup of coffee, and it was. I posted up at a table for a little while, did some people watching then made moves. Once inside, this cafe is a narrow but long hallway, that near the end, it turns away into a larger space. Based on that, there are plenty of tables and chairs to sit inside. While waiting in line, there are food display cases, and the chia seed caught my eye, so we included that while ordering a breakfast sandwich and an iced coffee. The mood was a cafe setting, so most of the guests were up to 2 people and claimed majority of the seats, and appeared to start having long conversations. Luckily, a table closest to the pickup station was empty, so we sat down as we waited for our orders. While the chia seed was given to us immediately after purchase, the breakfast sandwich and the iced coffee. Really enjoyed the food here. The breakfast sandwich was soft and warm, and had good texture overall. The egg inside was nice and fluffed up like a one inch cushion. The salt content was even throughout each filling. The chia seed dessert was a perfect snack to have in the mildly warmer days in Boston. I think it had coconut milk mixed in with the chia seed, and that was refreshing. What a cute place and deceivingly big inside. FYI - it's not very stroller friendly cuz of some stairs, but we made it work. Once we were inside, we realized this little place had a lot of space to it. We didn't feel cramped with the stroller at all. This place had amazing drinks and food. The prices were pretty average for "coffeehouse" ... but the menu was much more expansive than I was expecting. They have both breakfast and lunch foods available ... as well as yummy sweets. The lattes are made with care and have simple designs on top, which so appreciate. The service was good. Maybe not overly friendly ... but ok. I love this place! One of my favorites that I have been to in Boston thus far. They house-make their syrups and sauces, and have a delightful vanilla ginger and hazelnut. As a girly who is particular about her coffee, I like a smaller espresso to milk ratio. At this shop, for the iced drinks (and I assume the hot), there are two shots of espresso in every size, meaning we have a better control and more accessible options to get our personal perfect ratios between espresso and milk. The first time we went here, my husband got the cold brew, which is in the top 5 of cold brews we have tried! I got a 12 oz half-sweet hazelnut latte with whole milk, and it is my favorite drink! They also have a nice Ethiopian pour over. Not my favorite, but a nice dark, full flavor. In terms of food and snacks, this place has a lot of options! Their breakfast sandwich is delicious as well- fluffy egg, and good english muffin! Each of the three locations has a slightly different vibe, but all of them are nice enough! The north end on is the most quiet, whereas the times I've been to the one by the Boston Commons and Back Bay areas they have been much busier. Service is great, especially drink service. My drinks have usually come out within a minute of my order (minus the pour over, but those are meant to take more time!). read more

Their quiche is my favorite I've tried in Boston so far, and their Lox bagel is also delicious. The drinks are so flavorful and taste so fresh, and I especially love their honey cinnamon latte. The prices are very affordable and are incredible considering the massive portions that are served. In Boston, on Newbury Street, there is a coffee shop with an outdoor seating area with umbrellas. It looked very busy both outside and especially inside. The Thinking Cup seems to be a very popular spot for coffee. There is no service outside. I had to go inside, wait in the very long line, get my coffee and bring it outside. I got three coffees. They also sell macaroons, pastries and sandwiches. The iced coffee was perfect, it was just what we needed after a lot of walking. It was rich, flavorful and cold. Whoever owns this place needs to replace the entire staff that worked the afternoon shift on 8/11. Do yourself the service as a business owner or you will lose all your customers despite the great vibe and delicious desserts. Visited this location for a post lunch dessert and matcha latte. Asked the sales person behind the register what their best dessert was. Her answer? Croissants . She didn't seem to know much about the case full of cakes and actual desserts that was right next to the register. The rest of the staff behind the counter were on their phones and gabbing away with each other. We ended up getting the raspberry cheesecake which was very good and a hot matcha latte. The staff did not bother to call my name when the drink was ready. When I asked for a to go container the gentleman behind the counter offered me a giant box for a tiny piece of cake. When I asked if there was anything smaller he said no. Unfortunately for him, a coworker who just clocked in, contradicted this and got me a smaller box. He obviously couldn't be bothered... The containers at the self service counter (honey, simple sugar, etc) were unlabeled and the spout poured out a ton of liquid. If you weren't careful, you definitely would over sweeten your drink (which I did). This place could be really amazing but the staff needs to be retrained (or just have better hiring standards). Any coffee lovers should try the Thinking Cup. Their coffee is brewed to perfection. The espresso drinks are excellent, well crafted and flavourful! The cafe is cozy and inviting but almost always busy. If you're coming on a weekend, you may struggle to find indoor seating. Especially when the weather is cold and wet. I probably should have listened to the servers suggestion, but coffee barbecue sauce threw me through a loop. So I tried the other chicken sandwich. Mistake. I don't know how a sandwich with so many ingredients can taste like water - but here we are. Bland oblivion. Kinda bizarre that a sandwich made on the spot could be completely soggy too - but again, it is what it is. But for nearly 15 dollars after tip is crazy work.
