Haven't been back in many years (again). Went to takeout the popular honey garlic chicken. It was really sweet and had no garlic flavor. If you like sweet style, then you'll like it but if you're expecting more garlicky style then look elsewhere. The prices were reasonable and portion size was huge- good enough for 2 meals. Older gentleman on counter had thick accent but understandable. He gave me a small container of Mac salad separately. Great because it doesn't get all warm from the hot rice and chicken. Mac salad was decent tasting. Not sure if they have jello anymore that they used to give out because when asked him about any desserts he said "no" but I don't know if there was a language barrier or misunderstanding. It pains me to leave such a low rating on a small establishment like this, but when you have so much competition in the area, you should at least try to stand out. What annoys me about places like this is when they are so dead and seem to need business, yet they don't see it as important to ANSWER THE PHONE! We called multiple times on different occasions and never ONCE got thru. When I went in to order, I asked the lady working if they changed their number. She said the phone number hasn't changed and insisted that she "always" answers the phone, yet when I walked in, she was sitting in the dining room rolling gaugee. After mentioning that I just called and didn't get thru, she then tells me, "oh ya, I heard it ringing in the back." --- uhh. Okay?.. So, to me, that means you don't always pick up the phone. She didn't seem pleased with my inquiry. No, "thank you" or anything after I paid and even after I grabbed my food that was ready. No eye contact. Nada. Allllllrighty then!... lol Onto the food... With zero bias after receiving that interaction, I can honestly say that I didn't miss out on anything all those other times they didn't answer their phone. The food was waaaaay too sweet for my liking, and umm.. the beef stew? It was made with sliced beef type of cut, rather than chunks. Quite odd, but all-in-all, the "beef stew" is a hard PASS for me. Aside from the different cut of beef, my plate tasted like there was a full tbsp or 2 of sugar in it. Very bizarre if what you're hoping to taste is a traditional, or even, local style BEEF STEW. The honey garlic chicken was tasteless beyond the oily sugar coating. Portion and price for the mix plate was great, but damn... everything else fell short and 90% of it was trashed. Went to try Ohana Drive Inn (in Ewa Beach by Makule Rd) for the first time today Sunday (day before Presidents' Day). Handwritten notice on front door says they will be closed on Presidents' Day and the following day too. I have passed this place many a times when I worked but always went back to my Honolulu area favorites. I even checked out Yelp for their reviews the night prior to read what was good to order at Ohana Drive Inn. I ordered 2 regular plates for several meals: the Furikake Mahi (grilled per the cashier when I asked how it was prepared) @ $13.25 and their version of Honey Garlic Chicken @$11.75. Bought their version of garlic chicken to compare to (the no longer in business) Waiakamilo Drive In (which was my reference for Garlic Chicken local style with the strong garlic smell and taste). Unfortunately, they closed about September last year as I had heard their lease rent had tripled (they were located just next door to the Original Pancake House in the Waiakamilo Shopping Plaza). I did find a very good replacement for the garlic chicken with Loco Moco Drive Inn (Waipio location) as years ago but not now (10+), they used to be related with Waiakamilo Drive Inn but have pretty much kept more than the basic recipe intact! Mahi: the thinnest four (4) fish slices I have seen wherever I have ordered a fish dish at other places. All were perhaps overcooked on its edges by a minute+ too long resulting in slightly crispier edges than one would want. Strange, but the flavor did not come through (perhaps no seasoning added separately or in the light batter). The furikake which was quite abundant on the exterior did not help with the taste either. It came with their tartar sauce in small sauce container. If I were to rate this dish separately, I would give this a 2 star rating-no higher. Garlic chicken - if looks could kill, this looked to be a killer --- but not! The local style taste with its prominent garlic smell and flavor was NOT there... it is so weak in flavor. Also why were some of the pieces sticking together? Hmmm. Once bitten into some of the pieces, I know why... 'I' get the hunch these are leftover pieces of cooked chicken from Saturday. This is the Chinese version of Honey Garlic chicken that I have tasted at Chinese restaurants on Oahu --- I don't like it. It is no match against Loco Moco Drive Inn's (Waipio) if you are hunkering for local style honey garlic chicken like Waiakamilo's, Sugoi's, Mitsu-Kens. If I were to rate this dish separately, I would give THIS dish a lowly 1.75 stars out of 5 stars - yes, it needs to be rescued! Both plates come with rice too sticky/wet (best let the rice dry out about 15+ minutes before eating but still sticky). Note : I came around 10:45 am today so either they put too much water into the rice cooker OR gave me rice that was not yet fully cooked. Mac salad comes separate in small sauce container (like what other places give for katsu sauce, etc) so it truly is less than mac salad when put next to scoops of rice like other establishments... I know the thought process that it serves two purposes: not get the mac salad warm and cuts food costs. It has good flavor with its onions and grated carrots! Only the mac salad shone through where the other items collapsed and ridiculed the reputation and honor of this establishment. Friendly front and back staff that chit chatted with me and come to find out the establishment first opened there in 2000. Several owners for the past two (2) decades. The Chinese man (who I believe to be the owner) came out from the kitchen (with another male cook) with the strong accent (if you pay attention and look at him directly, you will understand what he is saying) thanked us for coming to their place. Initially, he was talking and I wasn't listening as I thought he was talking to the other staff member but really was talking and looking straight at me. Since not much info on the Yelp page for this place, it does take cash and debit/credit cards. This establishment needs a makeover in cooking techniques to add flavor and sparkle to their foods ... sure, others who are long time customers may bash me for this lowly review, but I am being honest and it's my review! If Chef Ramsey ever came to fix a local plate lunch place, this would be way up there for consideration. I really liked them a lot for the customer friendliness when chatting, however I most likely won't come here again --- unless I hear of a drastic improvement in their foods tasting better. read more

My wife and i ordered around $500 dollars worth of food for a party. I was there when my wife said, "Do you guys deliver?" She said yes, free. Where and what time? Wife gave her the location and said 1pm. The lady said ok. So she repeated the order and the time and location of the delivery. Everything was good or so we thought. The day of the delivery....12:45pm comes and no food. My wife calls Ohana and they said he is loading up the van right now to make the delivery. Wife says ok. So we wait. 1:05pm arrives no food. Wife calls Ohana and shes furious cause our guests are ready to eat. The lady gives the cell# of the guy whos is delivering the food (which i may add is the boss) of course he didnt answer. 1:35pm arrives hes downstairs. My wife is grumbling to him that hes late. Hes giving us some lame excuses. Here is a couple excuses he gave us, 1 he had a delivery right before ours. Thats not our fault but his. Leave earlier. 2 He tells my wife if you wanted it delivered at 1pm. Tell the lady, delivery at 12:30pm. That is the most lame excuse i ever heard!!! He was dead serious too. My wife told him, people are waiting to eat. But he didnt listen and kept making excuses. Whatever! I grab the cart with food and start heading to the elevator. We get on the floor and he sees our guests staring at us. Then say, oh they waiting!! Duh!! What a idiot!! My wife told you that!! Then he proceeded to grab the cart from me with food i was pushing. I guess to make him look good? Who knows!! I was told from a family member that Ohana caters good food and has great service. Sorry, we had a really bad experience with this establishment and will never cater or eat here again. If you want to take a chance with Ohana. Its a free country. But you were warned. That being said or reason being is that I was gonna spend about $400.00 plus make another order in food for my daughters graduation party. They said if you spend more than $300.00 they will deliver the food at your residence. Good to go I said to myself because we are gonna be busy that day with setting up doing other preparations for the Graduation Party. One less task to worry about. I went to Ohana Drive Inn the next day to pay for the food and when I went there the Filipino lady told me that they cannot deliver to my address at Ewa Beach. She mentioned that it was what her Boss/Owner said. I was then told that they had other deliveries that afternoon to go out to town area or outside Ewa Beach in which my time was just about the same. I then told the lady that I live about 10- 15 minutes away. Why they cannot drop off the food on the way out going to town??? Like WTF??? Now I need to arrange to pick up the food. I don't really leave bad reviews often, but I stopped and tried the "beef stew" with fried rice. They need to clean their wok. Straight up. My fried rice had old black grease bits in it. The beef stew wasn't even close to beef stew. Looked and tasted like they just took the beef and broccoli cuts and threw them in a pot with tomato soup. We love their food since we had some catering from them back in 2013 . Their Teri beef is ono and a lot of our guests gave compliment . Now that I had a birthday party for my daughter and spend about $400 for 2 different bentos- spam bento and hotdog bento . Everything are all good and no issues on food tasting . We got our condiments and forks and knife. Everything are all packed in a box. They also assist us to put in a car and I guess that's the owner who apologized about not able to deliver the food . The only thing is they said they will deliver our food to our party but when my husband called they told us they can't deliver to the designated address in Aiea because they have no driver. I catered large pans of fried noodles, shrimp broccoli, rice, meat jun, bbq chicken and medium pans of beef curry and Chinese chicken salad. I was hoping for the large pan to be much bigger or at least packed with a little bit of a mountain. The best seller for the day was the beef curry. Everyone loved it! The meat jun had a crunch to it. It wasn't the normal egg wash jun. It was like dipped in flower and fried. I actually love the taste with its texture. It was different, but loved it. Bbq chicken was good, the noodles very good. Was actually disappointed at the shrimp broccoli. It had thrice more broccoli than shrimp. It was good though. Growing up in Ewa Beach, Ohana is in an area that has gone through so many changes. It hasn't always been a fixture in Ewa Beach... But as long as it has been there, I've grown fond of Ohana's. The restaurant is very similar to a loco moco or l&l. For those nights you just don't feel like cooking, or for family gatherings to cater, or just for an after school snack, Ohana's is perfect for all of the above. They are quick, convenient, quality and good value for $$. My faves have got to be the chicken katsu, and ox tail soup. Not the best I've EVER had, but in Ewa Beach, they measure up. This place is so good for young ins that you see signs on the walls stating they will not serve kids during school hours. I assume with out an adult escort. There is a lot of choices here. They got your standard L&L-type plate lunches as well as a couple of house specials. Been here about 3 times within the last year. Each time I tried a chicken dish. First I tried was the mochiko chicken which I enjoyed. The sauce they included complimented it well. I upgraded to fried rice which was $1. Before I received my meal, the server was apologetic for putting in white rice instead and said that the cook is preparing the fried rice. That is GREAT customer service since checking orders before handing them off is a lost art nowadays. They put the fried rice in their mini plate container, so I scored even more! With each regular plate, you get egg drop soup. It was alright, but really added to the value of the meal. With each plate you have a choice of jello or mac salad. I opted for the mac salad. It was light and I didn't feel that guilty about eating it compared to other plate lunch places. One thing I really liked is that the mac salad comes in a separate container and doesn't warm up and mix with your food. Second time I went I tried the honey garlic chicken ( IIRC, been a while). I didn't know what to expect. It was more on the sweet side and garlic taste was light. My wife and I decided to be spontaneous and try a new restaurant in Ewa Beach. We were planning to check it out for catering prices, and ended up treating ourselves to a pleasant surprise. She ordered the terriyaki meatballs, and I had furikake mahimahi. It came with egg drop soup because we ordered the plates lunches.
