Oyako Donburi
Kevin W.

Mamaya Kapolei located along Farrington Hwy in the Kapolei Shopping Center next to Safeway. Nice selection of "Bentos ", Donburi's, Salads, and Sushi. My personal favorite is their Oyaku Donburi. Tender chunks of chicken, cooked with Mushrooms, Bamboo Shoots, Onions, and Eggs cooked in a sweet and savory sauce over white or multi grain rice. Very reasonably priced and you get a bottle of water for each Bento purchased. Servers are very quick and efficient. Take out or delivery only. Definitely recommended for those Bentos and Donburi's.

I love this grab-n-go bento place in Kapolei. Everything is pre-made so you can browse everything they have out and pick something up really quickly. I think you could technically order something off of their menu to be prepared, but I always find something that's already out. From sushi handrolls and inari bombs to chicken katsu curry and bentos with fried chicken, fish, teriyaki meat and spam. Also, every bento comes with a free bottle of water! Perfect for a quick lunch or a stop before going to the beach.

Chicken Katsu Curry. Lunch and talk story with Sister.

"Anything with Lucy is a one night stand, numb nuts." - 50 First Dates Mamaya Kapolei is part of a local chain that I didn't know about, or maybe I did?, but yes the small chain of eateries is called Mamaya. Mamaya specializes in Japanese bentos, bites, and comfort foods that obaa-chan cooked. I really liked the choices at Mamaya Kapolei. I dropped by after a morning of appointments in the area. I picked up the Miso Butterfish Mixed Bento, Chicken Katsu Curry, and Musubi Mini Pack to go and share with my sister. All were delicious, but I particularly loved the Katsu Curry and price was just north of $10. The Salmon Bento and Loco Moco might be yummy next! In the end, I highly recommend Mamaya Kapolei, for take-out bentos and Japanese comfort foods. I would guess the location in Aiea and in downtown Honolulu would offer similar?! There's also a stamp card they offer for a free bento after so many purchases. Nice bang for your buck! Pls follow my IG travels: @eric_travel_guru

Sesame eggplant with miso butterfish bento.

I just finished eating a bento that my sister brought over for me, and it was delicious. I had never heard of Mamaya, since they're located in Kapolei, and I'm in Kailua, but my sister was going to come over from the Ewa side and offered to bring lunch. I chose the miso butterfish bento, and was surprised that it also included some oden (stewed vegetables), sekihan (red bean rice), pickled ginger, fried chicken, and tamago (egg). The taste really reminded me of my mom's cooking. I was also surprised that it came with (or my sister added) a serving of sesame fried eggplant. Everything went well together, and the preparation was perfect. It's definitely a go-to spot for Japanese food on the west side.

Mochiko chicken bento with multi-grain rice

Mamaya Kapolei is my favorite place to get bentos. They are a takeout-only establishment located in the Kapolei Shopping Center and there is ample parking in the lot. It's very easy to grab & go if you are in a hurry during lunch hour. Their lunch offerings are wide. They have a lot of bentos but they also have musubi, sushi, donburi & katsu curry bowls available. In terms of bentos though, I recommend the butterfish or the mochiko chicken. Both are delicious with the multi-grain rice. There is something for everyone! They do a stamp card. For every 10 stamps you get one item free on your next visit. Bentos are between $7-15 depending on the size. Another thing I love about Mamaya is that when you buy a bento, it comes with a bottle of water :)

Order was received but never made for pick up. Cashiers were unhelpful on Sunday, 3/22/26 @ 2pm.

DO NOT ORDER LARGE ORDERS FROM THIS LOCATION. We ordered 25 musubi bentos on Friday, 3/20 to be picked up on Sunday, 3/22. We received confirmation that it was received and guess what... we went in on Sunday and NOTHING. The register person was unhelpful. They didn't say sorry or anything. They didn't even care or were willing to help. This was for my son's birthday party and now we don't have food. Steer away from here if you want RELIABLE service, or even a "sorry" for their horrible service.

We always see but never go because it never drew us in so we decided to take a look. What a pleasant surprise. This was all bentos and some musubi and poke salads. Prices were pretty decent and portion sizes were just right. Order a salmon dynamite and a okinawan shoyu pork bowl.

My order - egg ok, piece hot dog - ok, half potato croquet ok - chicken ok, rice - plain and a bit dry - no taste eventhough only nori and furikaki - no luncheon meat or soy sauce only individual grains. Not that impressed. Friendly staff. Tables a bit dirty and empty soda cans. Lots of take out. Went after lunch crowd so many things sold out. Maybe better selection earlier. Lumpia made to order.

My husband and I needed a quick bite to eat and these bentos are life savers! We got chicken katsu don and chicken oyako bowl. Each bowl costs $9.99 and it comes with a bottled water too. Great price for a good bento! Portion was adequate and staff were friendly and helpful.

Mochiko chicken bento, butterfish bento, teriyaki chicken bento & vegetarian bowl

For our Thanksgiving luncheon this year, we wanted to find bento boxes that could accommodate everyone's needs--no seafood options, vegetarian choices, and something generally customizable. We also needed it to be affordable, with prices ranging from $10-$15 depending on how much food you wanted. These bentos ended up being the perfect fit. Ordering online was incredibly easy and straightforward, which made coordinating for a large group hassle-free. When we arrived for pickup, everything was neatly packaged and organized, making distribution quick and smooth. Most importantly, everyone genuinely enjoyed their bentos. The flavors were great, the portions were generous, and there was something for every dietary preference which was so important. Overall, this business made our staff luncheon a success, and we will definitely be using them again in the future.

Nori butterfish bento and miso butterfish bento

Went to the one in Pearl city before but were pleasantly surprised to discover there is one in Kapolei which was much closer to where we were staying! These bentos were perfect to pick up for a beach day, pool day or even on the way to the airport. The quality is so good and great value! I would be happy if I got this exact bento at a sit down restaurant. They kindly give you a bottle of water with each bento purchase making it a one stop shop for a complete meal! The nori butterfish bento with multigrain rice was by far our favorite. Went here three times in our one week stay so that should say something!

Spam Musubi & Snack Pack

I wish I discovered this place sooner. A cute little shop with a variety of ready to-go bentos, musubis, onigiri, etc. Everything honestly looked so good, I wish I could have tried it all. The portions are perfect, you can find items for a lite snack, but also find items for a complete meal. Everything I tried was so yummy. My favorite was the pork hash and fried chicken. I definitely will be back and want to try some of the bigger plate lunches.

Variety of bentos and pre-made food

Great spot for a quick snack or meal! Has a variety of pre-made bentos, onigiri, rolls, and you can order dishes too. Reasonably priced, quick service, and you can dine in or take out

Wait time wasn't long at all, and there are plenty of tables inside, making it great for groups. My go to is always the spicy miso broth. Super tasty with great flavor and the perfect level of spice without being overwhelming. The meats are high quality and come in good portions, which makes the experience even better. The buffet bar is the same setup as the first location, with a wide variety of noodles, vegetables, additional meats and seafood, plus tons of sauces to customize your meal. So many options to choose from. I really enjoy their fish ball and raw eggs that I can cook with the ramen! I wouldn't skip the original fried chicken. It's so good we had to order more than five bowls of them! Crispy, flavorful sauce, and totally addictive. Service was fast and the servers were very attentive throughout our meal. Overall, an excellent experience and I'm so glad we now have a Shabuya closer to home. Highly recommend!

Finally decided to try Shibuya after driving past it for over two months. Unfortunately, it was a…read morebit disappointing. The first thing we noticed was how loud it was. It made it hard to hear the server's instructions or even ask for things. Our waiter also kept forgetting items we requested. We ordered drinks, and even though the restaurant wasn't busy, it still took about 10 minutes to get them. The meat was okay, but it was sliced incredibly thin--so thin you could practically see through it. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't anything special. The biggest issue, though, was how they charged for kids. My daughter is 10 years old. After we had already finished eating, they asked her to stand next to a height marker to determine whether she qualified for the kids' price. Because she's tall for her age, they charged her the full adult price. That just doesn't make sense to me. If your policy is based on age, say 10 and under or 12 and under, that's fair. But using height? Some kids are naturally tall, and others are short. My daughter is only about 80 pounds--she's still very much a kid. Charging a child an adult price because of their height feels like a cheap way to squeeze out a few extra dollars. I don't blame the staff. I blame the management and the owners. If you don't empower your employees to make good decisions and set clear standards, the customer experience is never going to rise above mediocre. As someone who's worked in the food industry and has been a manager, I know it starts at the top and trickles down. Overall, the food was decent, but nothing memorable. Between the loud atmosphere, inconsistent service, and the way they handled the kids' pricing, I don't see myself coming back. I'm not sure if this is a locally owned business or a large corporation, but either way, it just didn't have that aloha spirit that makes you want to return. There are plenty of other places with the same concept that offer better service, better presentation, and a better overall experience. We won't be coming back, and we won't be recommending it to anyone.
