Of all the restaurants and boutique stores in Leavenworth, there are three that, if I miss any of them, the whole trip is basically a total waste: The Gingerbread Factory, The Cheesemonger's Shop, and the Oil and Vinegar Cellar. Our pantry at home is practically bursting with various bottles of oils, balsamics and flavored salts, all of them busted out on the regular. We barely make it through the year without running out of something, and find ourselves forced to order online, or wait patiently until our next visit to this wonderful city. Armed with a toothpick and a paper cup of bread crumbs, you are left to sample the various flavors of the oils and vinegars throughout the room, but do so with this warning: you will *not* leave this cellar without your purse or wallet feeling significantly lighter than when you entered, not because they are expensive, but because you *will* find one, two or a dozen flavors or seasonings that you simply cannot live without. And then you're hooked, and you'll be drawn back to this cozy dungeon of deliciousness annually, like an orbiting satellite, unable to escape its gravitational pull. Consider yourself (and your bank account) warned!

Located in a cellar (as the name suggests) are lovely metal dispensers of gourmet oils and vinegars assorted throughout the space. All of the vinegars, oils, and salts are available for tastings and the counter persons is super knowledgeable about flavor notes, pairings, and suggestions. I tried a sweetened pecan praline balsamic vinegar on a tooth pick that blew my mind. In addition to some of these funky flavors were some classic olive oils and vinegars that I'm sure would heighten any salad or taste great with bread. If you are a fan of cold pressed, skillfully refined oils and vinegars, I highly recommend you take a walk down into the cellar!

    In the tasting room!

Great oils, vinegars and balsamic in this cute little basement tasting room off the mail Leavenworth street. They let us taste on weekdays only due to COVID. If you only want to taste maybe call ahead! Super fun!

In addition to running the best Italian restaurant in the county, they also operate Fire and Ice (a pizza & charcuterie gastropub, and an ice cream & gelato parlor, respectively) at the Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee, they also have set up shop with a delicatessen in the ground level of their flagship restaurant in Leavenworth, near the western end of Front Street, where they carve and sling some of the most delectable meats, cheeses, and things in jars that you can find anywhere in Leavenworth! Having dined at Fire a few nights previous, my wife and I fell in love with the Hungarian sausage served there, and knew that we had to stop in and purchasing some, before embarking on our long drive home. Between that, some jerky for the kids, pepperoni sticks of various temperaments, mustards, pickled goods and the like, we spent a pretty penny making sure that our Christmas charcuterie board(s), when paired with cheeses previously purchased from the Cheesemonger's Shop just down the street, would be legendary. And they were! Few people, in the history of mankind, have enjoyed such a fabulous feast of cheese and crackers...and meat and pickled things, of course! No matter if you're suffering from the Christmas blues, seasonal depression due to our saturated and sunless winter weather, or just a plain ol' empty stomach seeking carnivorous and/or curdled culinary comfort, Visconti's has the "Cured" for what ails you. There are few maladies or conditions that can't be solved by a shaving of meat, a wedge of cheese, a dab of mustard, and a slice of preserved, pickled perfection. Prove me wrong!

We had stopped by the Leavenworth Sausage Garden for lunch, enjoyed their sausages there for lunch, and decided to stop by their retail store before heading back. It's small, with a deli counter and a refrigerated case containing some of the sausages, coming in packs of 4. We picked up a pack of the polish kielbasa, and bacon bratwurst. They have an award winning beef stick (landjaeger) that we wanted to try, and need to be gotten directly from the deli counter. All of it was decent, higher prices because of its location, with simple service. It wasn't too busy, with service being efficient: they want you in and out.
