This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. My family and I have been coming here for close to thirteen years now, and it's become our go-to spot for weeknight get-togethers, special occasions and romantic date nights. While I grew up just minutes from the restaurant, I live almost 40 minutes away from it now and still make it a point to come here once a week. That's how good it is! The quality of the food served at Oishi is unparalleled in our area, and everything is always fresh and bursting with flavor. The raw salmon is hands down the best I've ever had, as it has such an amazing, buttery mouth feel and flavor. Don't leave without trying the spicy crunchy salmon cucumber handroll, as its one of my all-time favorites. The spicy sauce at Oishi is hand-made, and is so delicious you'll want to put it on everything. They don't mince the fish in the spicy sauce either, and thank goodness because a lot of places do and it's not great. Instead, Oishi does a rough chop of the fish and adds huge chunks of tempura flakes as well, making it a full, textured bite. The Oishi Mayo, both sweet and spicy, are also phenomenal, and should be liberally applied to everything because you won't taste anything like it anywhere else! Management is phenomenal as its a family-owned-and-operated restaurant, and you can tell they take their work very seriously. They are extremely accommodating to food allergies, as I have both a sesame seed allergy, and a peanut allergy, and I've never once had an issue there. The food is and always has been outstanding at Oishi. However, their service has devolved over the years as they can't seem to be able to keep up with their success. The wait is long to eat in, but the wait for takeout has been absurdly long. Last week we ordered takeout and unsurprisingly had to wait 1.5 hours for our order. After arriving at the promised time, we had to wait additional 30 minutes for our food. The hostess was pretty snarky and unapologetic as other patrons patiently asked for an update on their takeout orders. When we finally received our order, we unpacked it at home (our mistake for not checked at the restaurant) only to notice that our appetizer was missing. After calling the restaurant and promised a refund, no refund ever came. That same snarky hostess promised a refund for the $15 appetizer, but it never came. Also, I never received a follow up call from anyone about my unsatisfactory experience. It's unfortunate that such a good restaurant can't maintain quality service, so expect bad service to enjoy such good food. read more

I came here with my girlfriend and a close friend of ours. Upon walking in we were welcomed and taken right to our table without any wait. The first thing I noticed when we sat down was how quiet the restaurant was. We were hungry and started off with the chicken delight roll, chicken tempura, steamed pork dumplings, rock shrimp, and chicken yakitori. Every single one of these items were delicious. My girlfriend had the teriyaki chicken while my friend and I had the crispy chicken. I thought this was just average, but it was in no way bad. The service was also very attentive and quick to tend to any of our needs. The downfall here is I think it's just way overpriced for what you're getting. Came here on Valentine's Day and I really enjoyed my meal!! The sushi was very fresh and slightly expensive compared to other sushi places close by, but it's byob so that makes up for it. I eat here about once a month and usually very happy with food and service. Tonight, I came with my husband and my daughter for a nice little dinner. Our waitress's name was Suwanne. She was a little irritated from the very beginning but it was not a big deal. We brought a bottle of Processo with us and I asked her if it would be possible to open it. She looked at me in a very strange way and told me: "You do not know how to open it yourself?" I was not even sure what to say after that. She could have said it differently if she could not open it or something. The food was great as usual and I understand that the prices went up but service seriously needs improvement. We came to this restaurant during a weekday lunch and the service was really bad. The tall Asian waitress definitely had attitude. I came in with my 3 years old and my husband. She served 2 glasses of water, like my kid didn't even exist. Oh, and 2 plates, 2 forks, 2 everything. My husband had an important phone call he had to pick up. She came over (after 5 minutes of us sitting down) to ask if we were ready to order. Didn't she see someone was on the phone? Couldn't she wait? I bet some people's parents forgot to teach them the manner. The menu is also huge. How could we have enough time to decide? When I told her to give us a minute, she stared and me with attitude and asked "you need more time?" Uh, yeah? Listen lady, you are not the President of the United States. You don't have anywhere better to go, so what is the issue here? Also, when I went to the restroom and walked by her, I overheard her raising voice with the host who was in charge of seating people, that how it wasn't fair to give her bad tables bla bla bla. May be if she has better manner, people would like her more and give her better things? I don't know. It is absolutely unprofessional. The other shorter Asian waitress was very nice. She came over and checked on the table and gave my kid the drink and silverware. If not for that nice lady, I would have left 2 cents on the table. I had been to Oishi before for lunch but the last Friday of 2017 was my first dinner experience. Although the food was good, I was pretty disappointed with the service. Oishi is BYO so my fairly large group walked in with a couple different bottles of wine. Our waitress was prompt in providing us with glasses and opening the bottles (no corking fee). After looking over the menu, my sister and I decided to get a few different sushi rolls and share between the two of us. We chose the screaming spicy II, rainbow roll, and shrimp tempura supreme. The last of the three was definitely my favorite. The tempura shrimp was crispy and the rolls were topped with plenty of their signature sauce. The other two rolls were a bit of a letdown. The screaming spicy II was alright, but the rainbow roll was very plain. All I tasted was the fish and white rice, much different than the menu suggests. Presentation was fine. A few members of the group had the Oishi Godpol which looked great. I had some serious food envy after seeing it! Perhaps I should have gotten that instead of sushi! As for dessert, I ordered the mango mochi and really loved it. This was definitely the highlight of my meal. As stated above, the service is primarily what made me knock a few stars off. Our food took quite a long time to be served. The restaurant was packed, so I understand that may have been part of the reason for the slow service, but this seemed a bit too long. After our food was finally served, we were also never checked back in on. A couple members of our group wanted to ask for extra dipping sauce, water, etc., but our waitress never came back around. Completely empty water glasses should have been a clear indication for a refill. I will probably give Oishi another try in hopes that this "meh" experience was just a result of a very busy night, but for now, three stars from me. read more

I've been to Oishi a handful of times over the years. Everyone seems to rave about it. I really want to love it (hence why I keep coming back) but truthfully speaking, I just don't get all the hype. My most recent experience here was good but overall unforgettable and ordinary. I came with a rather large group on a Friday night. Thankfully, we had made a reservation in advance. Word to the wise: make a reservation ahead of time if you will be coming on a weekend. This place gets absolutely swamped and chances are there will be a wait on a Friday/Saturday night. The waiting area is tiny and gets crowded so do yourself a favor and just call ahead. We were seated immediately. Service started off strong but unfortunately kept getting worse as the night went on. Our server seemed inattentive; there were periods when she didn't check up on us at all and other times when she only checked up on one end of the table and not the other. There were a couple times when we needed to get our server's attention but just weren't able to. The food was good but nothing to write home about. I ordered three rolls of sushi - screaming spicy II, shrimp tempura supreme, and rainbow roll. Out of the three, I'd say the shrimp tempura supreme was my favorite (crunchy tempura + spicy mayo = heaven). The other two rolls were alright, but nothing I would choose to order again. I heard mixed reviews from everyone else at the table. A few people ordered the Oishi Gopdol. While I heard it was good, it seemed the portion size was rather small. My boyfriend and friend (who also had a soup in addition to the Gopdol) both left the restaurant hungry and ended up eating again once we got home. Another individual ordered the Korean Bulgoki which, according to her, was pretty bland. When it came time for dessert, I asked our server for a dessert menu. Instead, she listed out a bunch of options. It was hard to remember everything so I must say, having a dessert menu really would have come in handy. I ended up ordering the mango mochi (comes with two pieces) which was really good. You can never go wrong with mochi! I would definitely recommend it. All in all, I'd say my experience here was just average. Maybe I just came at a busy time or I didn't order the "right" things, so I suppose I would give Oishi another shot but it won't be at the top of my list. PRO TIP: Oishi is BYOB so don't forget to grab some wine before coming! read more

The food is amazing here -- specifically the sushi rolls are outstanding and so unique (spicy crunchy rolls can't be found anywhere else!) I've been here two times, and the interior is very cute and modern, yet artsy. I've stuck to the sushi, bento box (which was delicious, but not that filling), and udon. All very good, but sushi is the one that stands out. I will venture back to try their other Asian fusion foods, like the Korean or Thai dishes! I absolutely love oishi and it's sister restaurant KO. I have ordered from or visited them over 50 times since 2020. I'm not writing this review to deter anyone from going. I'm writing this in hopes that the owners or management will Make improvements. I understand staffing shortages and losing employees which is why I was continue to visit. However, I have been given the wrong food at least 7 times now. I'm talking getting chicken instead of tofu and steak instead of salmon, etc. not small things. i stopped calling about it because nothing Was ever done. The quality has gone down and things haven't been tasting the same lately. The food seems rushed to get out. My fiance and I ordered food from them tonight, a good amount too (set sushi with brown rice, one order of miso soup, a teryaki meat dish with rice, avocado and dressing, and two orders of seaweed salad). When we picked it up and got home, they forgot the brown rice, gave me sashimi instead of sushi, two orders of miso soup, and the rest was what we ordered. My fiance liked his food, but said it wasn't worth what we paid for and compared it to mall Chinese food. I unfortunately did not like any dish except the avocado and dressing. The soups tasted like vegetable oil, the seaweed salads were too slimy and had no flavor, and the sashimi was flavorless and I couldn't take a bite without spitting it out. I feel terrible, because this place was really good when I went many years back, I guess they changed management because this was not worth $80 for what we got. read more

Little disappointed from our last visit. Usually Oishi is go place for our family and we quite often going there. We went there on Wednesday and we're not happy with the food at all. We ordered sushi, sashimi and also gubdoll. The size of sushi and sushimi have been cut to 2 times smaller than normal serving sizes. The prices have been increased but sizes got very small. We understand the inflation is terrible, They could increase the price but cutting double smaller sizing is ridiculous. In addition the taste and freshness also were not as great as before. We had a group of 4 eat here recently. overall good. The edamame appetizer was very good. The brown rice and salad was tasty. My entree was the teriyaki red snapper. It was overcooked because it was cut very ,very thin. I wouldn't order it again since there was no texture. Could not tell the difference whether it was talapia, flounder or trout. If you want people to enjoy the red snapper serve a bigger portion. I would be open to trying a different entree next time. Best of luck. read more

Recently moved to the area and we were so excited to find Oishi (a BYOB)During our visit this week we were shocked to discover a $4 surcharge if you bought one bottle of wine $7 if you bought more than one. I've never heard of a BYOB charging you to bring your own. Our server seemed at a loss to explain the change. Not a good idea. We will think twice before returning. Regarding the food sashimi was great..bulgogi was not good.. sushi was just ok (we just got regular sushi not the specialty rolls) and did not really enjoy the dumplings, so food rating 50%. I have frequented Oishi at least 1-2 times a month since my family moved to PA 14 years ago. We LOVE this place. The owners are the kindest people, and they take note of their regular customers. We always get treated so well and the service is fantastic. The atmosphere is really unique - they moved locations in the recent years for more space, which they definitely needed. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I've had their noodle dishes, rice bowls, tempura, sushi and teriyaki. They've got some really unique specialty rolls, and their sushi is always super fresh. They also have a lengthy list of kitchen and sushi bar appetizers. I have never had a bad meal here. Our family chose Oishi to celebrate my late father's first birthday without him. It's been a tough year as he passed from COVID, but we were able to honor my dad who loved taking his family out for meals, often Japanese, with an amazing meal from our favorite local Japanese restaurant, Oishi. Everything we ordered- cucumber tuna and salmon hand rolls, sushi and sashimi deluxe, specialty rolls, shrimp tempura udon, chicken pad Thai- was delicious, fresh, and lovingly prepared. It was comfort food to us in the truest sense. And we ate so well we thought we had satisfied our sushi craving for the rest of this year, but we are already craving some more of Oishi sushi and rolls and planning our next order for our New Year's celebration. Don't hesitate to order take out from here. Some restaurant orders just do not taste as good eaten at home as takeout or delivery, but this is not one of them. Our massive meal was all ordered online without a hitch or a glitch.
