Micha is the owner operator of this small local joint. She is the friendliest person you could ever hope to meet. She goes out of her way to do anything that the customer wants so personalizing a meal is not going to be problem here. We often order the State Street wrap and the Wakeup wrap. Both are delicious. Everything is cooked perfectly but not overdone. The wraps aren't buttery or greasy. The flavor is intense and the wrap is pressed which makes it incredibly tight and easy to eat. There isn't much to critique at the State Street Kitchen other than maybe some of the dishes could be priced a bit sharper. I would probably give it a 4.6 if permitted, but this rating easily rounds up to five stars. Well done Micha. read more

Amazing thanksgiving wrap! Served Panini style with roasted white Turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Service was fast and the place was packed for lunch. The chicken vegetable soup was very tasty. There are only 10 two person tables so there will be some wait at busy times. read more

Nice find in Newtown. Had the kimchi chicken cheesesteak. First time I've ever had one like that. The kimchi mixed with the cheese and gave it a delicious tangy flavor. Definitely gonna get this the next time I'm in the area or I might have to try making it at home. Also had the fries which were good. Crispy on the outside, tender in the inside. Awesome! Owner/Person working there was so cordial. I came in a half hour before closing and she told me not to worry and that not only could they accommodate me for breakfast, but that I didn't have to rush since the other workers would be eating too before they closed up. I ordered 2 eggs with potatoes/hash bacon and a scrapple. Loved my meal! Also loved the quaint interior as well as the other offerings they had including these delicious homemade cookies partially coated in chocolate. It's amazing what a difference the staff/host/owners demeanor can make on your impression of an establishment. This is a special place that will have me coming back. Jess and I really enjoyed our first visit here. First impressions were not exactly what we had in mind but it turned out to be better than expected. It is a cozy little restaurant with a few tables in the front window, a soda fountain, hot java and assorted single beverages in a fridge to the right. Those were all self serve Micha explained who is the owner all the way to the bus boy. She does it all and is very friendly and informative. I opted for three eggs, potatoes and turkey bacon while Jess got the oatmeal with fruit. Micha explained we could create any combo we would like. The food was right off the grill with my meal being delivered in a thick paper plate which I enjoyed and Jess' coming in a plastic bowl. We enjoyed the contrast. The lady who works here, I think she is the owner, is very friendly. The flavor of the food is very good, but the portions are on the smaller side for me. The prices are also a little high considering the portions, BUT, the food is very good. I rarely give legit 4 star ratings, but if it wasn't for the difference in portions in relation to the price, it would be 5 stars. Very good food, and service. Parking is a little tough being Newtown, but once you find it, make sure you stop by this place. read more

My fiancé and I went here for a lunch recently and it was probably one of the best lunch experiences we've had in a long time. I really loved everything about this establishment including the very nice staff, the cute and cozy setup and, of course, the food. We arrived at about 2:30pm on a weekday and the place was almost completely full. Yes, the restaurant is quite small in size, but I was still surprised with the amount of people that were there for lunch at such an offbeat time of day. We were lucky enough to grab a seat right by the window which gave me a good view of the entire place. It is very casual and comfortable. If I was in Newtown more often, I'm sure I would be stopping in here regularly to grab breakfast or lunch. I ordered my lunch off of the vegetarian menu - a sandwich with portobello mushrooms, eggplant, roast veggies, mozzarella, basil pesto and balsamic vinaigrette. My fiancé was so excited to see that they have a thanksgiving wrap on the menu and was quickly sold on getting that. The woman that took our order was so friendly and sweet! When I asked her for an adjustment to my sandwich (I wanted it on whole wheat bread), she was more than happy to convey that to the chef. Just a few minutes after ordering, our sandwiches were ready for us to dive in. Both of them were absolutely delicious! My sandwich was piled high with eggplant and I loved the combination of the pesto and vinaigrette. They didn't go too heavy on the sauces which I appreciate - the bread was perfectly toasted and not drenching it with sauce prevented it from getting soggy. My sandwich was so filling that I was content after eating about half of it and took the rest home with me. This made for a great lunch the next day! My fiancé thoroughlg enjoyed the thanksgiving wrap and made it clear that he would be happy to get it again. I have absolutely no complaints about State Street Kitchen and will definitely go here again next time I'm in Newtown! read more

Simple cooking with fresh ingredients, small-town feel. Took us too long, but glad we found this little cozy spot in Newtown. Grab a seat, drape your coat, go up to place your order and make your hot beverage. They bring your order to the table. Go up pay and say good-day. Easy and good. I had the Micha's Breakfast Wrap (Roasted red peppers, provolone cheese and spinach on a whole wheat wrap, which was excellent. My wife had an egg sandwich with roasted peppers and provolone. Was in and around Newtown and desided to find somewhere for breakfast, so off Yelp reviews desided to give state Street Kitchen a try. Good coffee, good wraps, nice people that work hear. But the place is small. So when u come in might have to wait around for a seat. Depending on how busy it is. The menu is so so could have more breakfast options. It's definitely not your typical Diner menu. Many ppl are your everyday folks. They all know one another. Parking was someone crazy. Trying to find a spot. The lady that owns this restaurant is the coolest. I came here once and basically asked her what I should get and she recommended a bibimbap for breakfast! Ever since then that's all I get from here and quite frankly that's all I need to know. I call ahead and place my order and it's ready for me to chow down before I take a seat. She knows I've got to run and basically has me pay first so I don't have to wait and pay after. Every time I'm here I see familiar happy faces who just hang out and chill. All the regulars are on a first name basis. It's like a real life "Cheers" sitcom in here. If I owned a restaurant, I'd want to people to call out my name as they walk in and give me a hug. If I got a hug at my workplace, I'd probably be a lot less grumpy. Anyway she definitely takes the time to know her customers and tries her best to make them happy. I kinda want to try other things on the menu but this bibimbap is sooo tasty and healthy, I won't be able to try anything else. Even so I'm sure that whatever you get here will be made with the highest form of TLC. Or you can just do what I did and just ask Misha what you should get. read more

OMG, I love the lady who works here! She is one of the nicest, friendliest person I've ever met; the hospitality was great and you can definitely see the owner wants you to be happy! If you read all the other reviews, it seems everyone agrees that she plays a significant role in why this place has such high ratings! This is a small store in Newtown on what looks like a shopping street. Came here to eat lunch with some friends after a stroll at Tyler State Park since it caught our eye with the good reviews. The store reminds you of a NYC Bodega; rather small and cozy. Luckily we came on a quiet day and there weren't that many people. There is street parking (free all Sunday) and a public lot in the back (3hr or free on Sun) per the lady. Menu is full of breakfast items, as well as additional items you would find at a small diner. There is a handful of Korean food, including bibimbap and homemade kimchee (which by the way, you can order by the lb). I had the Misha's omelette, which was ok (you can add meat to this). But to be honest, the dish that was amazing was the Buckwheat Noodle Korean dish; it was delicious, and I was so disappointed that I didn't get this dish; the portion was large too! The bibimbap was also good!! Would definitely come here again if I get a chance too! Rating: 9/10 Pros: Hospitality, solid food with decent prices! I have been stopping by this great neighborhood grill/deli/hidden Korean food location in Newtown for the last several weeks 2-3 times per week. I tend to work out at CrossFit Newtown in the mornings and like to eat some good protein after a hard workout. One of the coaches recommended this place for breakfast wraps. What can I say, sometimes simple done well is way better than complicated done half way. Misha (the owner), and her staff, make amazing breakfast wraps. The one I always get is called the Carrie wrap (after the coach who pointed several of us to this place) it consists of eggs, turkey bacon, cheese, avocado. Whats great about this wrap is the proportions of the ingredients are just perfect, at times I ask to have sriracha or gochujang (Korean pepper sauce) on it for a little extra kick. What makes me love the place is the attention to detail. Normally a place like this will make a wrap and the tortilla is still raw. I always have to ask to either grill or press the wrap itself. Here they just know its better to press the wrap. Misha also offers various Korean dishes (she is Korean herself) and today I got a mid size can of her homemade kimchi. Lets me tell you its great!! You can ask for it on anything they serve, like the wrap, cheese-steaks, etc. I am looking forward to working through the menu, especially the Korean dishes, once I get a little more used to the Carrie wrap...so good! My husband and I come here 1-2 times a week consistently. Misha is a hometown celebrity, who knows all the locals names and greets people with a smiling face everyday. I came alone on a rainy Saturday afternoon and was seated in the corner of an empty part of the restaurant where I was completely ignored even after flagging down servers. I was considering walking out but I was starving. 15 minutes later I got an order of the pasta with crab. While I waited I was served marinated raw carrot ribbons and fresh bread and that was absolutely delicious. It didn't take long for the pasta to come and that was also very good although it would've been nice if the crab was somewhat chunked and not all shredded.. I'm glad the trip was not a complete waste however the service was horrible and for that reason alone I will not return.

Finally a bus boy came up and said you can sit anywhere you want. (Then why have a portable sign facing the door that says "Please wait to be seated"? We walked into the tavern past several occupied tables and by the bar which had many patrons. We waited 15 minutes for someone to come to the table which was in plain sight of the bar and bartender. Nobody came over at all. So, we left.

I had their udon noodle soup with vegetable and shrimp tempura (veggies were a broccoli floret, slices of onion, sweet potato, and kombucha). This was very good: the soup broth was mild and flavorful with a nice amount of baby bok choi, green onion, and tempura batter strips. The tempura itself was excellent: light friable batter, not oily or greasy. My wife had a chirashi salad which she said was very good, fresh and tasty fish. The decor is soothing and clean; service was friendly and attentive. Gochisousama deshita!
