We've been really eager to try new sushi spots lately around the neighborhood, so we were excited to see sushi on the menu at this Chinese restaurant. The fish looked fresh, which gave me hope. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. The maki rolls appeared to be more of a "chopped fish surprise," leaving me to wonder if we were getting prime cuts or the mysterious ends that didn't make the cut elsewhere. Flavor-wise, the fish tasted... seasoned by time. Subtle, but unmistakable. The wasabi was a visual experience all on its own--impressively sculpted, though its resemblance to alien poop made it difficult to approach with confidence. Most memorable, however, was the full-day stomach ache that followed. I appreciate commitment to an immersive dining experience, but this wasn't quite what I had in mind. If you're looking for a late night snack, opt for the Chinese food menu, skip the sushi and don't depend on it being your full meal. Lesson learned. read more

You would think Shumai Wok is actually a dine in restaurant from its name. But it is actually a takeout and delivery restaurant. With that being said, don't expect off-the-chart service and food lol. Everything is pretty fast-paced in here. Don't worry about parking, since SW sits in a little center. I've only gotten sushi from Shumai Wok, so far so good. My favorite is the Philly Roll. It has the smoked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado(I have ask to sub the cucumbers with avocado). Boston Roll and Crispy Kani Roll is also very tasty. Will update once I try other rolls in the future. P.S. Shumai Wok accept credit cards. If your purchase is under $10, they will add a surcharge of $0.50, I guess for fees. read more

Steady and simple take out only Asian fusion from here. They have a big menu of Thai, Japanese/Sushi with their main bread and butter being Chinese. The staff has always been friendly. I haven't been a big fan of their rice or their Chinese dishes, but they are decent (I typically go with General Tso's) and well priced. I dig their Sushi and Miso Soup though. My wife and son usually order typical Chinese dishes of chicken and veggies with Wonton soup and have never complained. The Sushi set up is simple because they are a take out place, but the menu has many options. I usually go with their special rolls (over 20 options) on their menu. I've tried several different special rolls and have never been disappointed. Last visit I had the American Dream Roll - Rock shrimp tempura inside, topped with crab stick, shrimp in sweet mayo sauce. The roll was well put together and did not fall apart. I watched the guy pack it and he used proper technique. The presentation is nice for take out. The roll itself was solid and tasty with good balance, fresh shrimp on top and delicious crispy shrimp tempura inside. The crab sticks were a nice touch and there was just enough sweet mayo sauce. Overall I think Shumai Wok has a friendly staff, good pricing and above average food. I'm giving it four stars based on the fact that they provide quick, solid take out sushi for a good price. Although in my opinion their Chinese dishes are more three star. Let's meet in the middle and say three and a half. read more

Ordered once through GrubHub for pick up and the foods were ready by the time we got there. Extremely fast service and pipping hot foods. Quality of the foods for the price is not quite there. Since it's our first time, we got a bunch of stuff to try to make sure there is something good for everyone, but everything lacked flavors. 1 Shanghai eggroll, 1shrimp eggroll, 1 Large Boneless spare ribs, and 1 Phad Met Muang. Everything tasted like a very highly Americanized Chinese joint. Everything is sweeter, greasier. The egg rolls are not worth $1.60/each, especially the Shanghai eggroll since it has only cabbage in it (it reminds me of the roll that Chinese restaurants usually give out for free as part of a combo meal to draw people in). Shrimp eggroll was a delicious in contrast. Boneless spare ribs tasted deep fried and drizzled with bbq sauce, and not the normal marinated char siu seasoning and grilled. The Phad met muang came out hot and at least had chillie flakes that made it spicy, which added some element to the dish. Overall a 2 star for quick service and pipping hot freshly prepared foods, but we won't be back. read more

The food is good... However, we were denied service due to one night delivery, they didn't get a tip.. My daughter ordered from them and I did not want her to pay the tip.. I was short on money anyway.. That doesn't mean a restaurant should deny anyone service just because of not giving a tip one time. We have given them tips in the past. Cheap and fast sushi. Rolls are generously packed and rice is cooked nicely. Although the Alaska roll actually has smoked salmon instead of raw salmon - which is okay I guess, just not exactly what I wanted/what it's supposed to be - and should be indicated on the menu unless it was a mistake. The Shumai were fried instead of steamed, which is unusual but they were good. I wish the dumpling sauce didn't have so much garlic. I got a random craving for sushi tonight and Shumai Wok came through. The sushi and dumplings were both very tasty. The spicy tuna rolls especially were particularly good - I've been getting spicy tuna rolls from a variety of places lately and and they've been coming up short on one way or another. These were perfectly delicious and appropriately spicy. The only complaint I have is that a lot of the rolls fell apart pretty easily when picked up with chopsticks. Shumai Wok is a new entry to the "Asian Fusion" takeout wars in Penndel, Pa. It is one of those places that really only does "to go" food, although there is a solitary table sitting there for those like me who want to eat before returning to the office. It is also one of those pseudo-fusion joints that offers Chinese, Japanese, and Thai dishes on their menu, but are really just a low budget Chinese house that makes cheap inauthentic versions of Japanese and Thai food, and does a sushi business in an attempt to be all things to all people. While I cannot speak to the sushi, I did recently have a dish of Pad Thai with Chicken, which as a lunch special came with a choice of Soup and Rice. As Thai soups were not offered, I accepted Wonton and Pork Fried Rice as the complements to the meal. Strange combo. Of course, although I was eating there, everything came to the table in take out containers. Okay. I can deal with that. The Wonton Soup was overly salty (MSG?), and the wontons themselves, thick and without much filling. The Fried Rice was dyed yellow from the chicken broth it was cook in that morning, was al dente and not worth the calories. Finally, the Pad Thai used the wrong thin noodles, and a sauce that tasted like the topping for General Tso's Chicken, not the traditional gravy that a Thai kitchen would produce. The weird orange color gave it away. This was a one time only visit. Although the people who work there (owners) are friendly and the prices are low, the food was a major downer, and it seems impossible for it to get to neutral ground where it would be tolerable. read more

Hats off to Shumai Wok. We really like their food. My husband always get the same thing, but I like the large variety they offer. Tonight, I ordered Shrimp & Scallops in Spicy Garlic Sauce. Was so sad to dig in and find no shrimp and only 3 scallops. BUT, I called and within 15 minutes a new entree with an abundance of shrimp and scallops showed up at our door. And it was delicious! This is our go-to for take out, because my mom doesn't do sushi....they have an awesome selection of Japanese, Chinese, and Thai. The two and three roll maki special is an amazing deal. Their spicy crunchy tuna is delish, and their spicy shrimp is also great (it's whole shrimp with spicy sauce on top of the roll rather than minced shrimp). They have a nice selection of speciality rolls in the $13-$16 range, and plenty of simpler rolls that are very affordable and fresh, despite the delivery time (usually about 45 min - 1 hour). The age tofu is out of this world; I order this fried tofu app everywhere that sells it, and this is by far the most flavorful. Their moo shoo is also great, although the 'pancakes' that come with it are really just warmed tortillas. They do the job well, though. Their Thai soups are also great; spicy with a good amount of substance (shrimp, veggies, etc.) Their general Tsao's chicken which is my mom's go to is excellent and is still yummy reheated! In general, we really enjoy this place and have never had a bad meal. read more

Terrible! I tried this place for the 4.8 stars from 400+ reviews on DD & 4K+ reviews on Grubhub...something's fishy because everything was bad! I ordered 6 different things so I had variety. The sweet and sour chicken, overcooked & tasteless. The dumplings & wonton soup, very thick and chewy. The pork & shrimp egg rolls, the noodle was so thick and undercooked, gooey and mostly cabbage. Fried rice? More like yellow rice with nothing in it. The sushi was the best thing in the order but that's not saying much, the rolls were so tiny! Thankfully DD refunded me. :( There must be some serious inconsistency in the kitchen based on this & other reviews suggesting the same. I wish I had a positive experience but my first experience was enough to not make me try again. We certainly aren't lacking for similar restaurants in the area so no problem. read more

One thing I must say is their staff even to the delivery driver are very courteous and respectful. Now to the food, I waited almost 1.5 hours to receive food that was cold and did not taste fresh. I don't mind that the food or delivery took that long but when the food arrived it was absolutely horrible. The meat tasted as it had been cooked earlier and then refried for my order. It was so hard I couldn't even use a fork to grab the meat before the pressure of my hand trying to get the meat made me push everything off my plate as the meat flew off the plate . When I first ordered at this place it was pretty decent, now when I order the same food it just taste like any corner Chinese spot in Philly. They do have other food (obviously) and an impressive /extensive menu. So I would tell someone to try something else and see if they like it first . I just won't be ordering anything else because if they saw the order was over cooked and still sent me bad food after waiting 1.5 hours then no thanks! Having recently moved to the Langhorne area from NJ, for the past year, my family and I have been searching for an Asian/take-out restaurant that compared to the quality, quantity, and taste of our usual spot in Jersey that we've been going to since the 90s! Out of all the places we've tried in the area (Langhorne/ New Town/ Yardley) this is the best by far. The prices are right, along with the quantity of food you get. If there was a way to give this restaurant zero stars I would. First I ordered online and order pineapple chicken habbachi fried rice. The description was sliced grilled chicken satueed with carrots pineapples and water chestnuts with pineapple sauce. I receive burnt fried Chicken basically chicken fingers with some pineapple slices and rice. The habbachi fried rice was just white rice with peas in it. Not fried at all. When I called and asked questions the worker's response was that the online menu wasn't there menu so it doesn't matter what it said. I nicely said that I would bring the food back if I got a refund and she said no. So I hung up and tried to eat the food that I just paid money for. It was disgusting. The chicken was cold and hard and the rice was very gooey I thre everything out! please don't waste your money at this place. read more

I will start with the positive first. They are fast and reliable, with regards to the later not only are they reliable as far as speed they are also reliably awful. You may ask yourself, why does he keep ordering? The reason is twofold. First I am hungry and there are very few choices for delivery in the area. Second the food is usually bad but still edible. Not "greasy but still tasty" bad, more like "is this food even fresh(?)" bad. As someone who probably eats out 5+ times a week and is a highly experienced Sushi eater I would totally accept regular no frills "Sushi mill" Sushi. Though this is not even that good, not even close. I must admit I have to partially blame myself for breaking the golden rule -NEVER ORDER SUSHI FROM A CHINESE RESTAURANT-, even a Chinese person will tell you their standards for cleanliness and disdain for wasting even the bottom of cardboard box does not lend it self to serving raw fish. You just know they are going to push the "freshness needle" into the red zone. The food,as always (both Chinese and Japanese menus) was just on the edge of freshness with as little flavour as scientifically possible. I don't know how they do it, surely it must be fresh at some point, why not just serve it then? When I eat their food (this is probably the fifth time) I always find myself asking myself as I'm eating "is this fresh?" and finally I realized that NO IT'S NOT FRESH (in my opinion) there is no middle ground with Sushi especially, it either is fresh or it isn't; as in Yin or Yang, this was "Yin Sushi"...the dark side. The only reason I'm probably not sick (although I may be after I write this, for real,as I did just eat it) is because my parents let me play in the sand box and I was not chased with purell though I'm sure this this is only because I'm 38 and we didn't have it. So I guess my immune system is good enough to order occasionally, but a restaurant in the "first world" needs higher standards (Duh). Now onto the Chinese food, I once ordered fried chicken wings, which should be a safe bet, and they literally tasted rancid. There is no spice I know of that tastes like that. A bit of common sense ,which I apparently lack by ordering from there, would tell you it probably is RANCID. Rancid by the way is great for punk/rock music as in the legendary NYC band, but it is very bad for food. (Disclaimer: I have no proof of this but in my/my fiancé's opinion it was real funky shit). The dumplings (fried for safety) same thing "is this fresh?". By the way i'm feeling like crap (ate like 45 Min.ago andI'm going to say "NO... it is not fresh". In summation obviously try to put a bit of levity into my review but in all honesty I wholeheartedly mean every word I said, they have some nerve serving this crap. I realize they are trying to run a business and I can empathize, but this is completely unacceptable at best and dangerous at worst. I highly recommend you do not eat here as this is not based on an isolated incident. It is really a shame for the people who work there but this restaurant can not/should not be long for this world. However long they will be around serving this garbage; the truth is always eternal so accordingly I write this review. read more

Never again. We have ordered from here a few times now and the last two experiences with delivery have been HORRENDOUS. Two orders ago, we waited 2 hours for cold food to arrive. This order we waited 2 hours - again - after receiving a phone call from the delivery man telling us that he could not find our home which is on a major road. My husband spent several minutes on the phone with the driver trying to explain where we are located, but that did not help the matter.
