I usually order tonkotsu and am hesitant to try others since the broth makes all the difference but I ordered the shoyu ramen this time and it was delicious! Lighter than tonkotsu broth but still super flavorful. And the noodles had that good chew/mouth feel which makes all the difference. I also ordered the house black tea with boba and cheese foam which was also oishii! I appreciated that they had brewed tea options since often find milk tea to be too much with food. Sometimes places that do both boba and food nail one, but not the other but this place was great on both fronts! Service was quick and friendly as well. read more

This is a really cozy spot! My husband and I shared the tempura shrimp appetizer -- it was well-fried with great sauces. He got the Khao Soi ramen, which was very good and a fun twist on a classic Thai dish. I ordered the shrimp tempura ramen; the flavor was subtle and nice, but you definitely have to eat the fried shrimp quickly. It inevitably gets soggy, so while it's a creative idea, I think cooked shrimp works better in a soup. All in all, I'd still definitely go back. Delicious Ramen but they treat us so poorly although we're repeat customers. Yesterday was my last straw. We planned to eat and leave in under 30 minutes and we did but they weee grabbing food off the table as we were eating. Repeating we needed to leave as we were grabbing a bite. Added a forcible 20 percent tip because they knew their attitudes sucked and despite pointing and confirming our order we got the wrong meal at the end and nothing was offered just telling us to leave again. This place is a hidden gem in Bethesda! The ramen itself was fantastic, but the star of the show is 100% the chashu hands down the best I've had in the entire DMV. Perfectly tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork with just the right amount of char and flavor that takes the whole bowl to another level. The broth was rich and balanced, noodles cooked just right, and the service was friendly and quick. It's rare I leave a ramen spot already planning my next visit, but this one is officially on my regular rotation. While I could tell the bamboo shoots came from a can due to their smell, the ramen (especially the broth) was incredibly satisfying on a cold day. I'll definitely be coming back! I had no idea how amazing soup could be. Oishii ramen is my go to for comfort, especially when I've had a bad day, feel under the weather...or pretty much anything else. The pork broth is standout, but I absolutely dream about the spider ramen. Named for the fried softshell on the top (which you can ask to swap for more shrimp), has a tom yum-like flavor. Creamy, spicy and slightly acidic, the broth could be poured on cardboard and I would eat it. Noodles are always perfect and the seafood is present, but not a huge portion - so you can focus on the broth. My only complaint? The lobster broth in the spider ramen dish is not listed as an option for the "make your own" bowl...which would allow me to perfectly customize it. I will regularly order the spider bowl in the meantime with no softshell, extra shrimp, and if I'm feeling down additional noodles and broth (allowing me to indulge for multiple meals) . Bubble tea is tasty - especially the rose milk tea. This place has a counter with a handful of seats and two tables for 4-6. After waiting for a table, we decided to mostly do takeout. We can order online. Would be great if they had a spot out front for takeout pickup as parking around the restaurant can be hard at times. read more

If you've read some of my reviews, then you know I LOVE ramen...I'm obsessed! My hubby, brother and I had plans on 3/17/2024 (Sunday) and when my brother suggested we start by having lunch at Oishii Ramen our plans were immediately more exciting to me. We arrived pretty much at their opening time, sat down and our waitress brought over water immediately. This is a very small spot, so I gather the goal of this restaurant is for you to eat and go similar to a lot of ramen spots in Japan. Please note, this is just what I am guessing due to the size, we were never rushed or felt unwelcome. I got the regular tonkotsu (with added egg that I split with my husband) and both my hubby and brother got the spicy tonkotsu. My husband added mushroom to his order, he thought it would be kirage, but it was like a regular sliced white mushroom. The ramen was excellent, a flavorful, buttery broth, the char siu was equally flavorful and tender. I ordered the Vegetable Ramen for pickup and was underwhelmed by this meal. I wonder if it would have been a better experience dining in. The order was ready within 10 minutes of placing it. Service was speedy and great. The ramen was packaged well with all the toppings in a separate container on top of the broth. Nothing was soggy, and the broth was plenty warm when I was ready to eat it. The vegetable ramen comes with vegan noodles which were not great. I tried letting the noodles sit in the broth for a while and the noodles would not pick up any of the broth. Every bite of noodle just tasted like a plain noodle which was disappointing. I wonder if the nonvegan noodles do a better job integrating with the broth. The carrots in my ramen were literally small carrot sticks. They were not cooked at all. They were hard and definitely the worst part of this meal. The tofu was also a low point as it looked like it was just fresh out of a tofu package. It wasn't baked or handled in any special way. It was just plain tofu. At $16 for the ramen bowl I think the toppings could use some improvement. My favorite part of the ramen was the broth. It was very flavorful. I appreciate that 2 types of vegetarian ramen (Veggie and Mushroom) was offered and glad I got the Veggie Ramen. While it was appetizing and just as pictured, the broth was a bit bland with soggy veggie noodles and a heap of veggies - tofu, corn, carrots, scallions, green cabbage, kikurage wood-ear mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. It felt like there was something missing. There was no kick. I slurped down the broth and devoured the veggies and left behind a heap of noodles. The bowls are quite wide with a small base, making it easy to spill. My hubby sadly spilled his ramen and the service was great and quickly made him another ramen. There is street parking or a garage near by. The interior is cute and fun. One bathroom to the whole place. Limited seating with seats by the window and counter or some high tops. I ordered the Tarantula (fried soft shell crab & seafood in a lobster broth) and the House Milk Tea with 70%. This broth was so deep in flavor. It was reminiscent of a Laksa - creamy, spicy, full of lemongrass tones. The Milk Tea was decent, complimented the ramen, but I'll try another drink next time. The crab was fried well, and the shrimp and squid was not overcooked. Noodles were just the right chewy texture but there was quite an abundance of it in my bowl (yes, I will complain that there were too many noodles in my ramen). My friend ordered the Oishii and enjoyed it thoroughly. His bowl had a lot of meat and toppings. He just came back from Tokyo and commented that the broth is pretty good but of course not as good as the one in Japan (*insert eye roll here*). This was a great tucked away, hidden Ramen spot. The prices are right and the broth was delicious. They offer a Ramen bar so if you're eating solo, it's easy to sit by the window. The service was extremely fast and checked frequently to make sure I was OK, the ramen was absolutely delicious and very hearty if you have their signature bowl. 4 stars for the Shoyu ramen. Shoyu is usually my go to ramen but the one at Oishii was extremely sweet. It tasted like they added a few tablespoons of sugar to the broth, it was tough to eat so I mostly ate the noodles, which were good. The space is small and feels cozy, but I do wish there was better air flow/ventilation as it felt stuffy in there at times especially with hot soup. I would probably give it one more chance, maybe as takeout. read more

was just 20 minutes a little too early for waxing appointment around the corner (at European Waxing Center), and accidentally came across Oishii Ramen Cafe while using my iPhone Apple Maps.app My intention was to only order the purple tarp milk tea w/ boba but when I saw the menu on the screen, I was very surprise that my favorite Thai Street food Soup (Khoa Soi chx noodles) was in the menu and decided to add it into the order! They close for an hour between 3:30 and open back at 4:30 P.M. bud my appointment next door was at 3:45; so coincidentally, I ordered my to go order around 3:25 right before they stopped serving and taking in other orders/guests. The ramen restaurant is fairly small, but have counter seating for about 6 customers, and five to six customer bar tables. I am definitely coming back here to try the other ramen, and milk tea boba drinks in the menu! The soup was $18, and milk tea (w/ add ons) were around $8... $28 plus sales tax! The ramen was so soothing and comforting...and they pack so many noodles in the bowl. I was starving going into the meal and still left with some to take home! The karaage was a little too oily and dry for me, but they it does have a satisfying crunch to it. There is minimal seating, but the majority of customers coming in were delivery orders. You dont come here to chill - you pop in, cop a squat, eat and bounce which is exactly what we did. This small spot is brightly decorated and they serve up a Mean bowl of Ramen. I got the brown sugar bubble milk with a cheese cap - so YUMMY But I wish I ordered it with less ice. My wife got the black milk yea with bubble and a cheese cap - I think she was in heaven. The chashu buns were just ok. I've had betters Jinya so nothing to write home about. We finally settled on our ramen orders: one Oishii and one spicy Tonkatsu. The Oushii really good. I mean BACON IN RAMEN? Who knew that would be a hit. I liked crumbling the bacon into the ramen as it picked up the flavor but did get soggy- perfection. But... that Spicy Tonkatsu?!?? Dont play wit it! I mean it was delicious. Silky, spicy with robust flavors. I mean just WOW. The menu is just right for a restaurant this size. It's a small place with limited seating. But the food and service are great. Our appetizers were delicious and the portions just right. We could have made a meal out of eating only the selection of appetizers. Ramen and the rice bowls were just as good and plentiful. Barely able to finish after the appetizers. Get the bao buns, gyoza and the shumai. Parking can be iffy but plenty of parking structures a short walk away. The boyfriend and I both love ramen spots and he had this one bookmarked, but after going we both wished he had added a note on why he originally bookmarked it, because, alas, neither one of us were impressed with the ramen. I appreciated the ingredients of my veggie bowl - the egg I added had good flavor and a bit of sweetness and I liked the flavor of bamboo shoots. Somehow though the bowl as a whole was a bit lacking. Maybe it needed some spice? I found the broth pretty oily but not tasty enough to finish. So 3.7 stars for the food. Service was fast and friendly. We went here for my husband's birthday, and it was delicious! Not only was the owner a master at how to wrangle children, which full disclosure, we needed that a little bit, but the food was exceptional! We spent a year in Japan, so I would say we have a pretty good idea of what good ramen is, and Oishii did not disappoint! I'll speak specifically to my ramen choice, which had a tom yum base; it was nice and spicy with crab and some other seafood included. So essentially not traditional ramen, yet innovative and delicious! I also had a boba thai tea that was delicious, and we shared some karaage, which in Japanese means fried chicken, and it was salted to perfection! I can't say enough about the owner, or the manager, I think he said his sister owned it, because every person that walked in felt welcomed and that they belong there and that is a great skill to master in food service. The restaurant itself was probably able to seat no more than 20 to 25 people, but it didn't feel small or claustrophobic in any way. Also bonus, in the bathroom, they had a baby changing table, which everyone should have in 2024, but they don't. Overall awesome night, and we will be back! read more

If you have never had ramen, Oishii is where you should start and if you have had ramen go here and this will definitely be one of your top ramen spots. Its a very small restaurant but their dishes and drinks have big flavor. They have two big tables that fit about 6 people each. For my drink I got the Rose Milk Tea under their Classic Tea Series! It was so refreshing, it literally made me feel happy and relaxed. It was so satisfying. It was sweet but just right. When I left I forgot to bring my drink with me so I came back and of course they already threw it away. I had to buy another one it was so good. Even their water container was cute and unique. I also ordered the Shrimp Shumai (dumplings) which were perfect. They are very light with the perfect flavor. Their Tarantula Ramen was amazing. The perfect amount of spice and over all flavor. If you like seafood this is the choice for you! They have about 13 Ramen options so they have something for everyone. I will be back to explore more on their menu! They serve the usual set of ramen that you can expect from a reasonably upscale US ramen spot including a variety of different broths and noodles as well as some interesting sides.
