Didn't get a chance to sit and sip my coffee, as I was told I was not allowed to use my iPad there. A stupid policy; I won't go back.

+1 star because the staff is so nice, but that's pretty much the only good thing I have to say. They have a 45 minute "screen policy" which was originally explained to me as a "wifi" policy. It essentially means you can't be at a table for more than 45 mins- seems short but understandable given the size. The problem is, for the roughly 1 hour I was there, after having spent about $10 on coffee & pastries, the owner and her friends took up half the seating loudly discussing what was wrong with the cafe! After continuously peaking at my laptop between her disruptive conversations, she finally informed me it was a 45 min "screen time" policy not "wifi" policy, so I should probably get a move on. No worries! I'll move right along, and tell everyone I know to go to 60 Beans! If this place is still open in 2 years I will be very surprised. read more

Update: What's the difference between 2015 and 2016 for this cafe? Well, obviously, paid advertisement and more middle-aged customers. _________________________________________________________________________ The next thing they are going to ask you at this place is to just leave the money, don't even take the coffee, so that "they can grow". I believe that asking me to leave because "a family of 4 just walked out", while their own employee was cheerfully digging through his phone occupying a table must be the lowest point of professionalism they reached ever since they opened. If you want to prove the opposite, then you should visit! From their overpriced mediocre drinks to the attitude of the owners, I'm sure an opportunity will arise for them to insult you, bully you, all the good things you expect when visiting a cafe. I challenge them to put the famous little sign one notices after taking one's wallet out, that is when it is too embarrassing to cancel your order, on their front door. Let's see how many people will walk in then. And how much they will grow. Simply obnoxious. read more

Extremely bad customer service. I came in here with 3 friends. We ordered two drinks and a cookie and because not everyone ordered something we could not sit and enjoy our purchases there. It was 7pm on a Saturday and we were the only ones in the whole place with other tables open. The woman should have used her judgement before enforcing such a ridiculous rule, which was not posted by the way. Instead we left with a very bad taste in our mouths and mediocre overpriced teas. We went out of our way to go there because they had vegan options for me and it ruined our evening. Please choose one of the copious other options in the Astoria area. read more

What a sweet little gem! Delicious chai lattes and other fun teas have all have been top-notch. The staff is friendly and attentive, and everything seems really well thought-out and authentic. Prices are a little high, especially for a specialty milk like almond, but I appreciate the imagination and sincerity of this place, so I try to go every time I visit my sister in Astoria. read more

This place deserves success. The staff and the owners work very hard, and they care about their public. Come here for good, strong coffee (Counter Culture Coffee). There is a fine assortment of teas and excellent Mexican Hot Chocolate. The decor is fantastic, and inviting. I could see myself relaxing here all day, but i've got to get out and walk my dogs. And there are fantastic pastries to enjoy at OK Cafe, made by local artisan bakers. My mother in law is celiac, and she has several tasty gluten free options. You think you're going to find that stuff at an awful corporate coffee chain from Seattle or Korea? Pffffffft. Come here. Support the locals who care about your neighborhood. read more

Finally, great THIRD WAVE coffee in Ditmars! The cortadods are incredible. The prices are just right. The space is cozy and the owners are hospitable. I come by with my son and wife all the time. Another great thing is, the owners have no problem with customers lingering. In fact, they even welcomed me to sit as long as I'd like to get my work done (!). Lastly, if you are looking for Starbucks this isn't the place. This is about local, ethically sourced coffee prepared with excellence. If you do not care about those things, there is a Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks around the corner. So don't fault a business for having integrity and charging a 30 cents more. I went in there early this morning, ordered a cappuccino, wanting to try a new place. The gentleman who was there seemed to know what I wanted but the young lady behind the counter there then inexplicably jumped in to give me a lesson on the difference between a latte and a cappuccino and that what I was really ordering was a latte. When the gentleman handed me the cup, it sure looked like a cappuccino. When I suggested to the young lady that there was no confusion about my order, she kept rolling her eyes and quipped "take your change you're holding up the line." What??? If you want good coffee and don't mind a nasty attitude, this place seemed good enough. But if you also like being treated nicely while giving your money to an establishment, try the cafe at 24th avenue and 28th Street (mighty oak roasters - my go to place) for the best cappuccino and friendly atmosphere. read more

For starters, my latte was overpriced and watery and my cookie was stale. I have had better for less money in this area. Beyond that, I was appalled with how rude and unwelcoming the staff was. Also, the other reviews here are correct-if you are here with a group and not every single person orders something, you will indeed be accosted and swiftly told to leave. Considering how competitive the cafe scene is here, you'd think they would treat their customers with some degree of respect. I recommend patronizing another small business that treats its customers well, or better yet go to Starbucks where you can buy a coffee without getting harassed to leave. Chip is also next door, which has far better and fresher baked goods for a more fair price. read more

So every time we walked by this place just off Ditmars my boyfriend would comment "that place looks like it'd have good coffee." It got to be a running joke until we finally checked it out, and it did! Obviously he was quite gleeful. But the people here were super nice, also they have almond milk!!! First of all, my girlfriend and I have been coming here for a while now-- we love the coffee and the atmosphere-- until today. My girlfriend has some food allergies so we brought in our (small) breakfast from outside, and wanted to sit in OK with our favorite coffee for a few. Stopped in here for an afternoon coffee and was very impressed! I am a somewhat difficult customer for coffee shops since I abstain from both caffeine and dairy. Sure enough this place did not have decaf coffee, but they did have decaf espresso so I got a decaf latte made with almond milk (I know, I know I make fun of myself for that order too) but it was delicious!! Best latte I have ever had. I probably won't go here too often because I do prefer regular coffee to espresso and it was a bit pricey to get all the time, but definitely a great splurge. No vegan pastries when I was there (disappointing) but there were some gluten-free ones. Also the staff was very polite and it was cute inside. read more

More than "ok", the Ok Cafe transported this weary commuter from her Astoria shuffle, and may be more aptly named "A-okay Cafe". One sip of the Lavender London Fog tea latte conjured visions of romantic encounters below Big Ben and misty promenades across the Bridge. Perhaps too small to entice the local jazz ensembles, I would still come back in the evening to sample their respectable beer selection and enjoy another Proustian escape with one of the coconut macaroons. read more

We love the OK café! It one of my favorite intimate spots to have a coffee with my husband. They have seating for about 10-12 people and it's very cozy. They have yummy treats that are gluten-free, and they do fun things like the "eight ball challenge". The ladies that work there are really kind and generous and very knowledgeable about coffee. Their coffee is organic and they've got this 12-hour drip high octane chicory-infused cold brew that my husband says is amazing (and keeps his pupils dilated for a long time!) This is a very unique offering and if you like strong coffee, consider stopping by. We bought the beans and ground them there to bring it home, and I'm loving it. They also support other local businesses by showing products from their stores like The Little Soap Shop http://www.thelittlesoapshop.net/. I just love this café! Ditmars Blvd didn't have a descent high quality coffee shop (excluding DD and Starbucks) the first three years I lived here. Then a few popped up recently around the same time. Ok Café is definitely my favorite. It's a really cute café with great energy and a friendly atmosphere. The staff is positive and welcoming...something you don't always get in tough NYC! I 100% appreciate it! The coffee and lattes are....amazing. You can taste the organic goodness in every sip. I'm not sure if it's the coffee beans or the impressive assortment of milks they have for you to choose for your drink. Probably both. My favorite drink is the Matcha Latte. It is absolutely wonderful. It's the best Matcha I've had anywhere! I'm also happy to add that they have a great selection of sweeteners for their drinks. No pink, blue or yellow packets here! They also have a punch card for frequent customers. Mine is almost full! I'm very happy to have such a great coffee shop in the neighborhood. I hope they succeed. OK Cafe opened up at the same a couple other places did and I feel like people knowing they opened got a little lost in the mix of that. For example, whenever I talk about here, someone usually thinks I'm talking about 60 beans. I think it's just timing and them being on the street a little off Ditmars. I try to tell fellow astorians about here whenever I can though bc I really enjoy it here. It is so cozy and quaint. I love it. It's a little small but that's part of the appeal (to me at least). I haven't been in here a ton (I brew my own coffee so I only go to cafes for specialty drinks). But when I have been in here the service is great and the drinks are divine. Should definitely be on any coffee lovers list to check out : ) read more

The best things in life are unexpected. Such was my discovery of this fine little Queens cafe. It was lunchtime on a very springlike April Monday, and I needed some exceptional coffee to go with the exceptional meal I'd packed -- and lo and behold, that's just what I found at the OK. Attracted to its sun-struck benches, I went inside and ordered some of their cold-brew, and found it to be the best I've ever tasted. It wasn't especially cheap (though only par for NYC coffee), but it was wholly worth it, especially as I sat and ate and drank and read on a long, leisurely lunch hour on the sunny bench -- perfect! What's more, the folks there were warm and friendly (and there was even a bathroom!). I had zero problems with this coffee shop, and if I'm ever back in Queens, they'll see me there once more. Cute laid back vibe at this little coffee shop off a corner of Heavy restaurant ditmars blvd. They have many boutique tea choices (ie lavender) and offer French press for you coffee connoisseurs. Their house roast has a deep and nutty sweet taste and since I'm very much a light roast person I wasn't crazy about it but I would go back for tea and to hangout there. read more

You can sit down for a maximum of 45 minutes. They have a little card indicating as much on each table. Cute. It took a few minutes to fully assess how unpleasant drinking my coffee under these conditions would be given that I've never experienced this in any coffee shop or café anywhere in North​ America or Europe​. The whole psychology of the café going experience changes under these conditions: are they watching me to be certain I haven't exceeded my 45-minute​ allotment​!?!? Weekends are "no screen" days so no wifi -- which is laudable​. But plastic stirring straws!? Who hasn't converted to more eco-friendly wooden coffee stirrers -- we know that these plastic straws and stirrers kill fish, etc., etc.-- and equally and more conspicuously eco-friendly means of disposing of them, namely, a recycling bin? These broader environmental issues aside, I don't know how this place really feeds into the surrounding urban ecology. I mean you can't really spend any time there (upwards of 45minutes​s) and get work done or meet people, and you know talk, etc. I suppose the increasingly gentrified locals pat​ themselves on the back for throwing money at this local business before darting off to work or retreating to the seclusion of their homes. If you want coffee to go this place might work out for you. If, however, you're looking for a place to read or meet with a friend or loved one or connect with the community at some deeper level go elsewhere. read more
