    Oka Special Sashimi.
    Stan P.

The best artistic presentation of sushi as well as being the best sushi I've had. A one man operation in a 12 seat sushi bar (10 seats at the bar, 1 2 top table). Oka-San will take special orders but the best option is the 24 and 48 piece sashimi is the best bet for tasty sushi in a lovely but simplistic presentation. The mini and full Oka Special roll is the perfect combination of umami, spicy and mouth fullness. Bonus number one is if Oka-San has in the albacore toro, get a piece or two, it is melt in your mouth goodness. Bonus number two is if you know you are going to be staying at the Fairmont Jasper, make a reservation for one of the nights of your stay.

Absolutely outstanding. By far the best sushi that I have had in Canada. Oka is an artist. We eat here every time we are in Jasper. The prices are very fair for the high calibre of food and perfect presentation. I highly recommend this restaurant. There are only 11 or 12 seats though, so you will want to make a reservation in advance.

The chef is very meticulous and attentive to details, he makes sure your sushi is well done and nicely decorated. This place had some of the best sushi I've ever eaten. Strongly recommended, but you should reserve prior to coming because it can get packed fairly quickly.

We split a bunch of appetizers. My favourites were the tacos and the salad. Always get their salads! The baked brie wasn't that warm when it came out and they replaced it right away. The ambiance was nicer than expected given the name, it was comfortable and modern but lacked any charm. The drinks were a highlight, we all enjoyed our cocktails and mocktails. The server was also very attentive and communicative. The only item we really enjoyed was the goat cheese poutine. That was delicious. The entrees were boring. Two of my party got the blackened salmon special with rice, vegetables and curry aioli. They expected a flavorful experience but got white rice, steamed vegetables and barely seasoned salmon with a small side of flavored mayo. It was cooked well but just not very tasty. I got one of the staff favorites, the bison meatloaf, which was also pretty bland. The meals were served like a convention center banquet meal instead of saucy, flavorful and fun.

I have to admit I may of groaned a bit climbing the flight of stairs up to the restaurant after a verticle climb up a mountain earlier, however the trek up was worth it. We were seated right away, and greated by Maddy soon after although wern't ready to place our drink orders quite yet. After a bit we had moved onto the menu choices where Maddy hadnt come back and was having a casual chat for a while with the bar tender so I walked over and asked to place our drink orders. Since they wern't busy and we were thirsty we were both a tad annoyed as we felt a little forgotten. I ordered the Cabernet and my guy the Rhino Hazy IPA draft. My wine was delishious although pricey for an 8oz glass. We both agreed the IPA was a bit heavy on the citrus notes so my guy opted for the The Apex Predator Ale on the next round which was much better. The food came out quickly where I had the Truffle Tortellini with cajun shrimp with Maddy's suggestion and it was SO good! My guy had the Alfredo with chicken which to both of us was a bit bland. After a while of the food being dropped off Maddy came around where we asked for some salt and pepper and parmesan which did help the alfredo dish. I ordered a second glass of 5oz wine, less than the already costly 8oz pour but our server brought the 8oz pour. She apologized when I told her was pretty sure I ordered the 5oz but told her I would just keep it. This place has good food, a nice kind of trendy atmosphere which is updated and stylish, with a good menu. Our service wasn't top notch but have had way worse and we thought Maddy was nice at least. The food and drinks are pricey but would definitely return.

What I didn't like about the breakfast experience is the cup size for coffee! I think the cups are small compared to the similar businesses. For dinner they have a better menu and the food is pretty good! I have tried their special a couple of times and I enjoyed some of their dishes and appetizers! I didn't enjoy their cocktails since they seemed to be a bit homemade quality, and maybe overpriced? My good example is their old fashion which was the smallest I've even seen! The interior design and the atmosphere is great and a great place for date nights! The staff was always nice, friendly and helpful and I liked the customer service! Overall the quality of the food is good and I know I'll definitely go back there!

For breakfast we ordered the alpine start (yogurt with homemade musli, brioche with jam) and the waffle plate. We enjoyed both of them; there were a good starting for our morning (breakfast opens at 7:30am). For dinner we tried the chicken, the meatloaf and the ribs. Everything was very good. I can't complain about the taste of the food. My only "complain" is about the small portion of every dish and how slow was the service during the dinner. The first time we ate here we waited almost 1 hour for our meal (I know there was a big group and other tables, but the service was very slow). Overall the restaurant and the place are amazing because of the view of Athabaskan river and the mountains around and they have s'more pit and other event almost every night.

He finished it, so I can only surmise it was good. Cheesecake with berries..........................................??? This is not on the online menu so I can't really say exactly what it was. It was normal cheesecake that was flamed on top. It was definitely the most memorable dish. Unfortunately, it was the worst dish of our trip. All I can say is, it reminded me too much of my own baking (which I normally burn), except that it takes much more talent to burn the top than the bottom. My husband tried to eat the black char and I told him if he did, then he would need to schedule himself for a colonoscopy, because he'll be walking away with colon cancer if he ate it. First, more positives: I like the vibe of the bistro - there was a bar at the front and someone was just hanging out on their laptop. It wasn't too busy or crowded. I liked that they had some goods to browse through while waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. The bathroom was also very clean. I liked the overall aesthetic - modern cabin chic. The menu has the name of the chef. So I was kind of hoping for an experience similar to one I had in Colorado at a small sushi restaurant where there is no menu, and the chef creates an experience for you, and you treasure every single bite. I didn't quite get that here unfortunately. And I was on a diet (still am) and with people who don't prefer certain foods, so maybe there would be other things that I would try. If I lived in the area, I'd definitely come back and try out other things. So that's why my rating is a 4/5 and the end of most of my review. If you want to hear me complain, continue reading. Else, thanks for reading this far! So again, I'm going on my soap box: This was the second restaurant that told us that the meals were great for sharing and they recommend it, you know, family style? Yeah, no. While some of the dishes were EASIER to share than at the Juniper, they were not great for sharing. In my last review, I had thought maybe it's because there are more Asian tourists who like to family-style every meal. Or maybe this is the new trendy thing. Maybe it's a Canadian thing. Here's a new hypothesis: maybe so many of these dishes are so overpriced and everyone wants to try a little bit of everything, so they don't have to feel shame when they start sharing these small plates with each other, the servers give them "permission" to family style. The idea of tapas is great - but these are fancy dishes that don't have much substance to them and it's really hard to split some things 6 ways. At least there were serving ware this time. Finally, this is a special tid-bit to whoever reads this long review: Avoid sitting near the hanging exit sign if you are more than 6 feet tall. My brother-in-law sat under the sign and when he stood up, he knocked his head very strongly against the sign. Not good for safety. Functionality over aesthetics is what I prefer. Plus, who wants to sit UNDER something that has the potential to fall anyway? That never happens you say? Yeah, it happened to my mom. Different day, different story.

We saw the ratings for Tokyo Sushi and decided to give it a try. Went into restaurant and notice many tables are empty. There are still two large parties eating sushi though, so I was optimistic. I signal a table for four to the lady at the back. Almost immediately she gives me a weird look and uses aggressive hand gestures to shoo me away. She tells us they are closed. A little aggravated by my hunger and her poor manners, I ask the lady if they are doing take-out still. I inform her politely of how hungry we were and how much we would appreciate it if we could just get some fast take-out, as we see other families are still finishing their meals. She doesn't even acknowledge me! In fact, she is angry at this point that I haven't left. Her gestures becoming even more aggressive as she quickly shoos me away from the restaurant. I was really looking forward to this place and trying some top quality sushi. Instead, I was greeted with rudeness and an empty stomach. Went back to the hotel and ate instant oatmeal. It was a sad day for my inner foodie.
