We have gotten carry out a few times from here and have been pretty pleased. We still miss a great hibachi place in Ashburn, VA (no one will ever compare!) ... but since moving to Winchester, this place will be our new hibachi place of choice. One of the biggest disappointments I've ever experienced. Brought my family here expecting to have a great time. We ordered our drinks after waiting by the hibachi for over 45 minutes. When the drinks came they were all wrong. We ordered sushi; after 10 minutes of trying to get the waitress to understand what we wanted. The cool came out and started the meal; he was very dry and somewhat morose. We were quickly given our bill after he left the grill; leaving my wife and I feeling somewhat frustrated at the brash way of treatment. We finally paid our bill of $148 and asked the waitress where exactly our sushi was. Now mind you, this was after about an hour and a half. She replied with disgust; as though our $42 of sushi was an inconvenience. She left the table and came back with our sushi in a box to go. I will never go back. Ever. Went for my Wife's Birthday. Great Service, never had to ask fro a refill. Very friendly staff that worked well with my 11 year, 8 year and 18 month old sons. Unlike other places in town, they offer noodles at the Teppanyaki Bar, which were a hit with the boys. Quality of the Sushi was the best in Winchester, style and presentation of the Birthday Dessert and the Sushi Plates were exceptional. Okinawa will be a regular place for us. read more

Let me start off by saying this is the best asian resturant in town.However it does have its flaws, hence why I gave it only 3 star. The food is amazing. I dont eat meat so the sweet potato roll is just amazing. The deco is beautiful, special touches on every inch. But as I said, the flaws : WORST service. WORST. Not saying every server there is bad, one in particular. The front desk/bartendar couldnt be more friendly. The sushi "cooks" are very smiley and nice, everyone in the hibachi side seems to be entertained. Last night, on new years eve, there were several different people from the kitchen it seemed coming around to deliver food and take plates, all very friendly. A very nice younger girl sat us, but to my disappointment she didnt serve us. Have been here many times and every time I seem to get stuck with her. She NEVER smiles, never greets us, doesnt even actually answer any questions just says "no". As I server I know how easy it is to just smile. which would go a long way here. And as a customer I know how far a simple smile from this particular server. but again, as I have said, food is still amazing, and I continue to come back. Another word is that the bartendar seems to be super overworked, I also bartend and I really wanted to jump behind there and help. Also the bar is beautifully stocked! read more

For quality, freshness, taste, and overall presentation, you'd be hard pressed to find a better sushi place than this. From the modern decor to the comfortable seating, and overall warm and engaging personality of their staff, Okinawa has become the go-to spot for all things sushi. Though I don't typically do hibachi, the few times I did with friends, it turned out their hibachi chef is hilarious, entertaining, and the consummate showman. I have tried every sushi joint in the area, as well as from New York to California, to Bratislava (noooot great) and this place is hands down the best of the lot. Foodies can be observed taking photos of these amazingly crafted rolls being cranked out by the professional sushi chefs, who clearly take a lot of pride in their work. Best advice, skip the crowds on Thursday (sushi is half price, but the wait can be long), and come in when they've got more time to devote to your ultimate culinary satisfaction. read more

NYC transplant to the winchester area so my opinion is heavily skewed. I think this is the best of my options in this area. The chefs and waitstaff are all chinese but I do not hold that against them. There are plenty of Chinese run Japanese restaurants in nyc. The sushi is good. The food is fine. I came in to order take out with my boyfriend for my birthday and the people there were extremely rude for no reason. Upon asking for a take out menu, the one woman at the front handed me a menu and immediately asked if I was ready to order. "Uh no we like to read over the menu to decide first..." she then stared at us until we decided what to order. (Caterpillar, spider, rainbow rolls are what we got). They were just okay, nothing great or special about them. I could tell they were made quickly. Didn't taste very fresh. It was more expensive than I had thought and when our order was ready, she just handed it to us. Not a smile, not a thank you, come again. My wife and I have eaten lunch there twice and it was good, however, we went for dinner on Saturday night, 1 Oct, and it was terrible. When we arrived the guy acting as host yells across the restaurant "How many", keep in mind that there were three tables occupied out of maybe 20 so it was hardly busy. From this point on it feels like we're uninvited guests at someones house. Waitress was rude, disinterested. The bartender was very nice but that's about it, the service overall was horrible. The food was ok, sushi was good. The food was over priced a bit but not over the top. However, as I write this, my wife just came out and told me she feels nauseous, connected to the restaurant, don't know but we're not going back. read more

We got turned onto this place from friends and at first only tried the Hibachi meals for special occasions. When they started their Thursday sushi special I knew we could afford to indulge the family more often. We get a child's hibachi meal for our littlest one who doesn't like sushi yet and yummy sushi goodness for the rest of us. We tend to place a large order so it does take a while for it to arrive but we are very happy with the food. I'm not a terribly adventurous eater but even I have been trying new rolls with each visit. Our current favorites: Okinawa roll, Gina roll topped with yellowfin, and Hidden Dragon roll. read more

We just ate here tonight for the first time. I haven't eaten at a Japanese steakhouse in a few years because I have had too many not so pleasant experiences in the past. I have this one a try and I love it! It is new, clean, modern atmosphere! The employees are all very friendly. We sat at the hibachi and it was very entertaining. Our chef was talented and friendly. Great with our kids. They were efficient. The filet and shrimp was perfectly cooked. The rice was on point. The yum yum sauce was delicious. I even appreciated how he changed utensils from the ones he was flipping around when he began to cook with them. We will be back and be bringing friends next time!! read more

All of their dishes are made with fresh ingredients and the owners Anna & David are very friendly & welcoming! Okinawa had an nice, modern atmosphere with quick, polite service. On Thursday nights they offer 50% off select sushi rolls; although not all their sushi is included in the 50% off, they offer a large enough selection. In my experience the sushi was not amazing, it tasted good and was filling so it served its purpose, but I have certainly had better. Other members of my party ordered off the hibachi menu which came out much better. In all, I would go back to Okinawa but I would order from the hibachi menu instead of the sushi menu. read more

The sushi is very good. The pricing is great on Wednesday and Thursdays when it is half off, otherwise it's a little pricey. But most importantly the service, it is HORRIBLE. The first few times the service wasn't bad, but then after they acted like my table didn't exist. They rushed me by staring me down (and this is ordering about 7 sushi rolls, not like it was one and they were not busy at the time). They also brought my table our drinks, order our food, brought the food, and then did nothing the rest of the time. NEVER refilled our drinks after bringing them to us, NEVER asked how the food was or if we were doing okay, etc. Disappointing. read more

It was brought from the kitchen and was not as good as the rice from the grill. At no point was I offered a discount or a courtesy apology. Don't get take out on Thursdays if you want sushi. It is 1/2 price sushi day. I got 4 rolls and they made me buy 2 soft drinks and then I asked for a small yum yum sauce and charged me for it. They said they don't make it there so they have to charge for it. That is crazy. Also the girl that checked me out was extremely rude! My family and I wanted to go to a Japanese steakhouse to celebrate my son's birthday. Unfortunately we had a horrible experience at Okinawa and ended up walking out an hour later without being fed our meal. We were seated almost immediately as the place was almost empty (except for one large party in a side room). About 20 minutes later a wait person took our order...about 5 minutes later we received our drinks...about 10 min later our broth....about 10 min later our small salad (and I had to ask for a drink refill)... I asked our server how much longer before the chef would be starting the grill for our table. She assured me only 5 more minutes. Well, we waited another 10 min and still no chef in sight! I asked again how much longer and was told only a "few more minutes!!" I finally left with my family due to the restaurant's extremely poor customer service. I was just so frustrated. The manager did apologize and she did not charge us for our drinks, soup or salad, but beware anyone who goes there. The wait will be long will be long and the customer service poor. read more

I really liked this place up until the last time I ordered from here. Their online menu is not accurate for prices or meal descriptions. They will not give you the included soup and salad for hibachi or kitchen entrees for to-go "due to packaging" (no price difference either. It's still the same price without the soup and salad).... but if you want the soup and salad you can pay extra for it. That makes a lot if sense..... They also no longer give you noodles with the hibachi entrees and have cut the portions in half. (For the now $22 steak and scallop they fit everything into one small to go container and we had to look hard for the 3 tiny scallops.) They pulled the typical chinese place nonsense where the prices and portions and quality are great for the first 6-9 months to get customers used to going there, then they changed everything, jacked up the prices for no reason and cheapened the portions and quality if the food. I don't think after this I will be going back here. It actually made me really mad. read more

Okinawa provides authentic dishes at good prices, either at the sushi bar, in the hibachi grill area or at the separate table sitting area. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious. Had a very bad experience with server and manager. Was there to celebrate a birthday and was all but ruined due to very rude server lady and manager didn't give a damn. Never offered to make it right. I've never been treated worse at a restaurant that you pay $25 plus per plate . Ridiculous! Will spend our money elsewhere any day. Sushi was forgot about, drinks unattended. Did a birthday thing for table next to us but nothing for the birthday person in our party. Just plain out nasty people. The restaurant seemed pleasant. The hostess was average and our cook was ok on the grill but he struggled with being funny and engaging during the cooking of our meal. There are several Japanese Restaurants in the Winchester area and they all have the same theme. The fried rice was ok but not great. It is funny but the light colored sauce at all the restaurants seem to be similar but the darker sauce is different between them. I ordered the chicken and steak plus he threw in some shrimp from my tablemates. The shrimp was very hard and sort of cruncy (if that is possible). The chicken and the steak were pretty tasteless. ..hence the sauce I'm guessing. The vegetable's were heavy on the onions and not cooked all the way. I enjoyed myself and the food really wasn't bad just different from some of the others in the area. My personal opinion was they were trying too hard to be like the others. Now I also must say my wife and the couple we were with ordered sushi and they all said it was very good. They actually enjoyed the sushi more than the cooked meal at our table. We would go back but maybe this time try a regular prepared meal from the kitchen. read more
